Chapter Twelve:
Poison Pacific
Danny gulped as he looked at the entrance to the Fuschia City Gym. He had heard how tough Koga was. Now it was time to face him. He and Pikachu entered.
"Yo! Champ in making!" the bouncer greeted him. "Fuschia City's gym is riddled with invisible walls. Koga might appear close, but he's blocked off! You have to find gaps in the walls to reach him!"
So Danny moved forward and noticed the view in front of Koga, standing in the center of the room, looked a little glassy. Sure enough, it was a nearly-invisible glass wall. So he walked alongside the wall to look for gaps to pass through. Along the way, he battled a couple of juggler trainers specializing in psychic Pokémon.
"It might just be me," Danny said to himself as his Charizard was battling a Drowzee, "but I thought this was a Poison gym, and that the Psychic gym was in Saffron City…"
Among finally getting to the center, Koga cackled. "Fwahahaha!" he laughed. "A mere child like you dares to challenge me? Very well, I shall show you true terror as a ninja master! You shall feel the despair of poison and sleep techniques!" He grabbed a Pokéball from his belt and tossed it. "Go, Venonat!" he commanded, and a Venonat emerged.
"A bug, huh?" Danny asked. He then tossed one of his Pokéballs with a "Go, Pidgot!" sending his Pidgeot out to battle the Venonat.
Knowing the advantages of different types, Danny was able to have his Pidgeot and Alakazam defeat Koga's three Venonats a powerful Venomoth.
"Yes!" Danny said, pulling a victory fist pump.
"Humph!" Koga said. "You have proven your worth! Here, take the Soul Badge!" He handed the pink heart-shaped badge to Danny and continued, "Now that you have the Soul Badge, the defense of your Pokémon increases! It also lets you use Surf outside of battle, which I assume you got at the Safari Zone already. Ah, take this, too!" He handed Danny a Technical Machine labeled "06" and explained, "TM06 contains 'Toxic!' It it a secret technique over four hundred years old!"
As Danny left the gym, the bouncer told him, "It's amazing how ninja can terrify, even now!"

Danny and Pikachu decided to hit the Safari Zone again, where they were able to try out riding on Blastoise, and they managed to catch a Kangaskhan and a Marowak!
After that, they decided to go to the coastline from Fuschia City to catch some rays. They saw a little beach shack and decided to go in after a while. A surfer dude with his own Pikachu noticed something about Danny's Pikachu and exclaimed, "Whoa! It looks like your Pikachu knows how to surf! So, I'm not alone…" He nodded at his Pikachu, who nodded back.
"Pikaa…" the dude's Pikachu said.
"Great!" he told Danny and his Pikachu. "You earned the right to surf with the dude! Give it a go?"
Danny's Pikachu was nodding happily. "Piiii-kaaaa!" he cried out.
"Sure," Danny said, smiling, yet somewhat surprised by this feat.

Danny was impressed as his Pikachu was able to surf pretty well, even doing some cool flips, and only wiping out a few times. "Pika-pika-chuuu!" the Pikachu said, very impressed.
"Your Pikachu is so rad," the Surfer Dude said, very impressed. "Now how about some burgers and dogs on me?"
"Sure thing," Danny said, and he and the Dude had a barbecue with hot dogs, burgers and other tasty things. Their Pokémon also enjoyed some food as well. Later, Danny and his Pokémon needed to get ready to leave the area soon.
"OK," the Dude said, "stop back anytime if you and your Pikachu feel like surfing!"

After another run in the Safari Zone, where Danny caught a Tangela, he and Pikachu hopped on a bus to Saffron City. After healing up his friends at the Pokémon Center, he went back over to the Silph Company, the largest skyscraper in the region. But among arriving there, he also came across his brother again…
"Billy?" Danny asked, surprised. "Are you also here because of Team Rocket?"
"You bet," Billy said. "And now that you're here too, we can try to stop them together!"
Two other boys close to Danny and Billy's age, Jonathan and Stefan, both of whom were childhood friends of the brothers, joined them. "I told you we'd find them here," Stefan told Jonathan.
"It looks like we're going to try and take down Team Rocket together," Jonathan said.
"Hey look, it's Jonathan and Stefan!" Danny said to bill. "This is great, We can all team up to stop Team Rocket from taking over Saffron City!"
The four of them entered the skyscraper with their Pokémon…
