I was just barely awake, but in the back of my mind, I registered a heavy weight. It was foreign and intruding on the dream I was having of spending the night hanging out with Edward.
It was natural and a bit flirty. Exactly how I wished things would go with him, if I ever grew a pair and knocked on his door.
He was sweet, caring, and great with kids. Not to mention the muscles from years of cracking a whip. A whip that frankly intimidated me.
"Hrrmnm," rumbled low in my ear and my eyes popped open.
I looked to my right, shocked to see it was Edward's arm I'd felt and his voice that grumbled close to my ear.
It seemed that whatever woke me up must have also gotten his attention.
"Shit, my phone," Edward muttered, folding his legs from where they'd been resting on the coffee table.
I sat up, allowing Edward to lean forward and snatch up the phone.
"Hello?"
I heard a cheer on the other side of the phone, but couldn't make out the words.
"Merry Christmas, Edie. How's England?"
More chattering sounded, and Edward looked at me apologetically. He whispered with his hand over the phone, "I'm going to head back to my place to clean up. What time do you want me to come back for dinner?"
"It'll be ready around 3 o'clock, but you can come back anytime after noon."
He leaned in and kissed my cheek. "See you in a few hours."
I watched as Edward turned his attention back to his phone, walked down the hallway and out my front door.
