Chapter 14
The sound of stone hitting metal echoes threw the halls of the dungeon . Jak was plying with her broken hair clip , Kael was watching Marcus, Fila was siting on the ground and wild Marcus was boxing withe the heavy door trying to brute-force it open.
Marcus stooped and punch it one lest time "is not working at all other ideas?"
"I could make a replica of the key from ice with magic but I do not have a good schematic" respond Fila."Jak can you pick lock it again?"
Jak examined her broken hair clip „The last time i open that door we got a meeting to the guard and more our equipment confiscated. The only one that have something close to a functional weapon here is Kael"
"Can we be quiet about that?" Says Kael. "Plus that dagger to big to get into the door lock"
Marcus put himself down supporting himself by the cold wall of the cell. "So what now?"
Out of nowhere a voice echoed from the dungeon corridor, greeted by heavy footsteps and the sound of armor. "We have a proposal" Yelled the dwarf guard. "If you where telling the true then prov it by eliminating the hazards in the old mine."
"What is the cache" Asked Fila.
"No one turned back the same from there." Respond the Guard.
"So a suicide mission?" reply Marcus trying to be more intimidating."What is the other choice?"
"Death by hunger" Reply the guard.
"So is not even a choice in the mater" Intervene Kael, "At least we get our equipment back?"
"No you do not, all you will get is a low quality sword, axe, and a bow with 5 arrows."
Jak let out a frustrated sigh. "Wonderful. So we're supposed to clear an entire mine of whatever is lurking in there with scraps?"
The dwarf shrugged. "If you're as skilled as you claim, you'll manage."
Kael stepped forward, gripping the bars. "What exactly is in that mine? Goblins? Bandits? Some ancient beast you forgot to mention?"
The guard hesitated for a moment before answering. "We're not sure. Miners started disappearing. Those who came back spoke of shadows moving in the dark, of whispers that drive men mad. We sent soldiers, but they never returned. An old adventurer was the only one that come back with something to be considerate information and is not pretty."
Marcus intervene "What exactly?"
The solder peak up a peace of glass from his pocket and put it on the ground, form it a live like illustration started to appear."This …" respond the guard terrified of what remain of a creature, a dog like being with his head smashed to peaces of the color red and black.
Kael change a look to the rest of the group. "demonic beasts, how many?"
'We don't know." Respond the guard.
"If you're throwing us against demons, we'll need real weapons" intervene Marcus. " at least 25 arrows and decent quality gear."
Fila shivered. "and a staff, I cant use combat spells with out one."
Jak exchanged glances with the others. They had faced worse, but without proper gear, this mission was nothing short of a death sentence.
Still, they had no choice.
"Fine," Jak finally said. "We'll do it if we get what we asked, with out it you will still have that problem and we will die anyway"
The dwarf grinned. "I see what I can do about that but don't have to much hopes on it. You leave at dawn. Pray that you live long enough to see the sun again."
