Aizawa sat in the observation room while reviewing the footage from today's entrance exams. The exam was a 10-minute simulation of urban combat where the students faced off against large robots that acted as villains. Aizawa was spending his time reviewing the students who passed the test based on the physical test. They still have to go over the written tests and you need both to enter the hero course, but it's good to review the top students. Aizawa is making notes on where each student stands. It was an effective way to create this semester's training curriculum.
Toshinori Yagi, also known as All Might, entered the room. Normally this man would be towering over everyone with his huge build but now he's depowered in a weak, almost skeletal-like appearance. He approached Aizawa and looked up at the large screen, displaying clips of a boy with an explosive Quirk.
"Still reviewing the footage, Aizawa-san?" Toshiniro asked. "We already determined the scores for the physical test."
"I'm currently reviewing the performance of the passing students because I want to see the areas where they need to improve. As teachers, we need to know the limits of our students and see what we could do to push past them to produce better results," Aizawa.
"I see, I suppose it helps you to have a better understanding of your students."
"Right," Aizawa said. "You should probably do the same since you're going to be the one handling the Hero courses."
"Of course," Toshiniro said as he scratched the back of his head. He looked up to see the participants on display. Multiple windows show different students utilizing their Quirks to either defeat the robots, save others or scout the area. "What do you think about this year's round of candidates?"
"They're a promising bunch but it's obvious that they still need a proper education and training before they could do any pro-hero work," Aizawa said. One window caught Toshinori's attention, it's of Decade fighting against Magia. He wielded his sword to fight against the Magia.
"Hm, is that archive footage of a pro-hero at work?"Toshiniro said as he pointed to the window with Decade's footage. Aizawa looked up and widened his eyes.
"That's live footage from one of the battle centers!" Aizawa proclaimed. "How did they get past U.A.'s security?!"
"You mean this is happening on campus?!" Toshiniro shouted. "I'll go deal with it."
Before Toshiniro could transform, Aizawa stood up and stopped him.
"No, you're All Might. You're better off using your strength for more public appearances. I'll contact Present Mic and investigate what's going on. Let us deal with this behind-the-scenes incident," Aizwa said.
Toshiniro nodded and said, "I'll stay here and monitor the situation. I'll also inform Principal Nezu of the situation."
Aizawa acknowledged Toshiniro with a nod before setting out.
Decade jumped into cover as the Magia opened fire on him. He used the body of one of these large robots as cover.
"I could use a gun to fight back," Decade muttered.
Suddenly the blade of the sword retracted and the booklet bent to form the shape of a gun. He was beginning to realize that Decade's power is thought-based to an extent. So if he needed a gun or sword, he could summon one in his hand. This also extends to summoning his cards. Decade glanced to his left to see another large robot to use as cover. He dashed to the next cover, firing back and taking out two Magias. Once he took cover, the Scouting Panda Sold aimed fired at Decade's position. The blast blew up his cover. As he got up, the Neohi Magia attacked him by him. He wielded a bladed tentacle in each hand.
The Kamen Rider evaded his attack before shooting three times. The Neohi Magia shouted as he unleashed all of his tentacles to attack Decade. He tried to shoot the tentacles but they were all coming towards him from different directions. The tentacles slashed through Decade's armor, leaving sparks in the places they strike.
The Neohi Magia retracted his tentacles to allow Onycho Magia to sweep down. He used both his legs to kick down Decade and push him into the ground before flying off the Kamen Rider. Despite being enhanced to fight, Decade isn't just skilled enough to hold against the multiple Magia variants along with their foot soldiers. Decade began to recall what the Kasshine told him earlier about the nature of his powers.
"If the power of other heroes is dormant in me, then I could use them right?" Decade thought.
A card materialized in his hand, he quickly looked at it and it was a different Kamen Rider. One is called Kamen Rider Gaim. The portrait of the Kamen Rider shows that he was a samurai-themed hero. He donned a blue helmet with a crescent-shaped ornament on his forehead. His visor was a half-circle and somewhat looked like an orange.
"Let's see what you're about," Decade said as he inserted the card into his belt and pushed the buckle.
[Kamen Ride: Gaim]
A zipper appears above Decade and unzips itself.
[Orange Arms!]
A metallic orange flew out of the zipper and slammed into Decade. His armor now transformed into a blue undersuit with golden trimmings around the wrists and knees. He also wore golden knee pads and armor for the lower legs. Gaim's helmet materialized over Decade's head.
[Hanamichi on stage!]
The metallic orange that rested on Decade's shoulder transformed into a chest plate and shoulderpads. A short sword with an orange slice-shaped blade materialized in his right hand. A second sword appeared holstered on his left side. It had a longer blade but with a pistol-shaped handle and a lever to pull on the back. Decade, now Kamen Rider Gaim, inspected the Daidamaru, the sword with the orange-shaped blade.
"This feels… different," Gaim noted in his thoughts.
The sound of the Magia rushing caught Gaim's attention. He looked up to see three Trilobite Magia's charging at him. The fruit samurai charged at the Magia slicing through them as he passed them. The Neohi Magia sent out its tentacles to attack Gaim. As Gaim, he was quicker to swing his sword which allowed him to keep up with the attacks from multiple directions.
Gaim sliced continued to slice through the onslaught of incoming tentacles. He waited for a moment to attack however he didn't account for the other two Magia, However, the Scouting Panda Sold used his rocket to propel himself into the air. He used his position to fire a rocket at Gaim from above. The Neohi Magia retracted his tentacles to avoid a friendly fire incident. Gaim looked up before diving out of the way of the attack.
The Onycho Magia dove in to attack but Gaim was quick enough to turn toward the Magia and swung his sword at him, cutting across his chest. The Magia crashed through a store window. Gaim felt the handle of the Musuo Saber, the Rider's secondary weapon. He quickly switched the Daidamaru to his left hand to unsheath the Musuo Saber.
The last four Trilobite Magia attacked Gaim. Two of them charged at him with knives and both of them were easily cut down. The last two opened fire at Gaim, who easily deflected their shots. He noticed the slider on the back of the handle. He pulled on it and the sound of a gun being reloaded came from the sword. A part of the blade glowed a bright orange.
After deflecting a few bullets, Gaim fired back by pulling the trigger of the Musou Saber. The Onycho Magia finally recovered after crashing into the store. He joined back in the fight by tackling Gaim and flying away. As he dived to take down Gaim once more, Gaim got up and got into a stance. Once the Onycho MAgia got close, he swung both the Daidamaru and Musou Saber from two directions and bisected the Magia.
As Gaim turned to the Neohi Magia, the Scouting Panda Sold took this opportunity to attack Gaim without him noticing once again. The Sold was perched up on a rooftop and chuckled as he aimed the rocket at Gaim. He began firing down at Gaim, one of the rockets managed to explode near the Rider and knocked him down.
Toshiniro watched the fight as it was going with a phone next to his ear. He gasped as Decade transformed Decade transform into Gaim and continued his fight against the Magia. Finally, Principal Nezu picked up.
"What a pleasant surprise, All Might! I hope today's class exceeded your expectations!" the principal said in a friendly tone, unaware of the incident in his school.
"Sir! This is an emergency! A fight broke out in the city battle center! It appears a masked assailant is fighting against androids of unknown origin! Aizawa and Present Mic are going to the scene to investigate!" Toshiniro exclaimed. There was a few seconds of silence as the principal processed his words.
"Understood. I'll gather any available teachers on campus and remain on standby."
"Thank you, sir! I'll stay here and monitor the situation!"
"Keep me updated."
Toshiniro hung up before looking back at the monitor. A part of Toshiniro wondered what's the story behind Decade. He can tell what he witnessed wasn't the work of any Quirk. Transformations Quirks aren't anything new but the pro-hero has been on the scene for decades. He knew what a Transformation Quirk looked like and it wasn't what Gaim/Decade had. Toshiniro guessed that Gaim was fat and least human if his opponent were non-organic. He wondered if he could be reasoned with.
Gaim was currently under fire from the Scouting Panda Sold. The rocket-wielding Sold used his rocket to propel himself across the buildings to fire from multiple vantage points. One lucky rocket blew up a car next to Gaim and launched him into the body of a destroyed robot.
"Does this guy even run out of ammo?" Gaim questioned as got up. The Scouting Panda Sold took the opportunity to fire a rocket at Gaim.
A scream from down the street was heard. The person shouted, "YYEEEEAAAHHH!"
A visible soundwave destroyed the rocket in the air. However, the deafening sound of it broke the glass around them. Gaim covered his ears as he dropped the two swords and looked up to see the soundwave. He followed the direction of the sound and saw a man dressed in black and sporting sunglasses. He had blonde hair spiked up with a sound device around his neck. It was Present Mic, the teacher who came with Aizawa to investigate this situation. Of course, Decade didn't know who he was but was glad that there was someone who would help out.
"What a relief," Gaim commented. The Scouting Panda Sold aimed his rocket at Present Mic but was suddenly wrapped up in a cloth-like material. He tried to break free but Aizawa jumped off the building to use his weight to pull the Magia off the roof. The blonde man smirked once he saw the Scouting Panda Sold out in the open and unleashed his ear-deafening attack once more. Aizawa quickly threw his scarf at a railing of another building to pull himself away.
"YYEEEEAAAHHH!" the man shouted once more, launching the Scouting Panda Sold into a building, which then crumbled due to the power of the destructive soundwave. Gaim and Aizwa winced at the loud sound but they weren't as hurt by it when compared to the Scouting Panda Sold, who flew right into a building that then crumbled.
The Neohi Magia tried to attack Gaim but he reacted fast enough to block the tentacles. Aizawa stood and watched from the top of a building. He was interested to see where this was going. Gaim noticed that the bottom of the Musou Saber had a slot to insert something and he then glanced at the Daidamaru, which looked like it would fit in. He combined the two weapons into a double-bladed weapon. The Neohi tried to attack again by sending out its bladed tentacles but Gaim managed to block the attacks, even cutting off the tip of two tentacles.
A card materialized in his hand. It was labeled as a Final AttackRide Card for Gaim. The portrait was Gaim's symbol, which was an orange with his helmet ornament. He inserts the card into the belt as he taps his shoulder with his sword.
[Final AttackRide: G-G-G-Gaim!]
The Musuo Saber began to glow and Gaim threw two blade-shaped projectiles at the Neohi Magia, trapping them inside an orange-shaped projection. He then flipped the double-bladed sword to hold Daidamaru upwards. The blade of the orange-shaped sword glowed as Gaim charged.
[Orange Charge!]
Gaim sliced through the Neohi Magia, blowing it up into smithereens. The mechanical parts of the Neohi Magia landed around the street. Gaim's body blurred, transforming him back into Decade. Gaim's card was ejected out of the belt and a blue flame burned off the portrait of Gaim.
"Did the power disappear?" Decade asked.
Aizawa safely landed near Decade as Present Mic approached them. The former's phone went off and he checked to see who it was. It was from Toshiniro. Decade glanced at Aizawa, taking a step back. He was unsure what these people could do to him.
"Aizwa, try to be... approachable to the stranger. I think he could be reasoned or talked down to coming in peacefully," Toshiniro said.
"Are you sure about that?" Aizawa asked.
"He isn't attacking you, is he?"
"Point taken, but if he tries anything I won't hesitate to take him down," Aizawa said.
"Great, take him to the conference room. I'm Nezu would like to hear his story."
Aizawa sighed as he hung up the call. He turned to the other teacher and said, "We're taking him to the conference room for questioning."
"At least they seem somewhat reasonable if they aren't going to take me down immediately," Decade thought.
"Here's what's going to happen: you're going to tell me who you are and why you're in UA," Aizawa said bluntly.
"UA?" Decade questioned.
"Playing dumb isn't the smartest move. You're already in a lot of trouble for breaking in," Present Mic said.
"I don't know what UA is," Decade said. "I don't know if I'm even in my own… world."
"Did this guy hit himself in the head?" Present Mic asked.
"I can't tell if he's genuinely lost or not. Best take him to Nezu. If he tries anything, I can use my Quirk to prevent him from doing anything," Aizawa thought. He asked Decade, "Are you willing to cooperate?"
"Of course," Decade said.
"Good enough, I suppose," Aizawa said. "Here's what's going to happen. You're going to come with us and explain yourself to Principal Nezu why you trespassed onto school property and why you were fighting robots."
"Wait, hold it, this place is a school?" Decade asked as he looked around.
"He's really good at playing the idiot," Present Mic said.
"Just come with us," Aizawa said.
Principal Nezu gathered Ectoplasm, Power Loader, and Midnight to the conference room. Toshiniro arrived once he heard that the situation had been dealt with. He bulked up and transformed into his hero persona, All Might. Since Decade was being dragged here, he has to keep his condition a secret. All Might present the teachers with what they know so far. That Decade suddenly appeared and fought against robotic soldiers.
"I believe that Decade isn't a Quirk user," All Might said.
"What makes you say that?" Nezu asked.
All Might nodded. He said, "The method of his transformation requires the use of that belt and the insertion of a card. The process of even transforming doesn't look anything like a Quirk, it's like he's... summoning armor out of thin air."
"I mean, the way you described makes it sound like something from an obscure sci-fi movie," Power Loader commented.
"A giant orange. It sounds so unreal," Midnight added.
"You mentioned that the ones attacking him were robots? Could we somehow access their memories or something along the likes?" Ectoplasm said.
"As long as their "brains" aren't too damaged, we can potentially have access to whatever data they have. It can help us gather information on where they come from," Power Loader said, ever the tech-savvy one.
"If that's the case, I want you to see what you can bring up," Principal Nezu said.
The doors to the conference room opened as Present Mic walked in with Decade behind him. Aizawa stood behind him to prevent him from using a Quirk. However, he doesn't know that what he has isn't a Quirk.
"Telling by the looks of them, they look like superheroes. Are they supposed to be the teachers around here?" Decade thought.
"So, you're the one who caused a ruckus in one of our battle centers," Principal Nezu said. Decade was too stunned to speak when he saw the talking mouse for a principal. Nezu realized this and laughed. "I know my appearance can shock people for those who don't know me, but please try to act courteously."
"Right, my apologies," Decade said.
"First things, first. Do you mind explaining to me who you are?"
"My name is Kazuhiro Kimura. A first-year high schooler at Ishinimori High."
"Ishinimori? I never heard about it."
"It's a high school in Futo."
"Futo? That's the city's former name before some scandal forced a name change," Midnight said.
"Hey, you can drop the act now kid," Present Mic said.
"It's not an act," Decade said. "Look, I don't know what's happening but I'll tell you what happened to me. What I saw with my own two eyes. I don't know if my story is even believable but it's all I can give you."
"Should we even entertain him by listening?" Ectoplasm asked.
"We might as well since he's here. Whether or not his story is believable, we should at least hear him out."
"Some group called Hundred launched a massive attack on my hometown, Futo. I somehow obtained this power to transform into a hero called Kamen Rider Decade, which they want to use for their destructive purposes. The last thing I remembered before arriving at your… school, was a portal appearing. I walked through and I just popped up here."
"There are no records of such an attack going on in Musutafa from such a group," Ectoplasm said.
"I know it's hard to believe. I don't blame you if you don't."
"I do," All Might said.
"Huh? You think his far-fetched story is real?" Present Mic asked.
"Youg man, do you know what a Quirk is?" All Might asked.
"If his story is true, then Quirks probably aren't a thing from where he's from," Power Loader commented.
"Are they some kind of... drug or something?" Decade asked.
Midnight couldn't help but snicker. It was adorable to her that he was clueless or pretending to be clueless.
"No, they're what you would call superpowers," All Might explained.
"Superpowers, huh? I think I'm starting to get it. You guys are superheroes and teachers, which means this school is some kind of training facility for future superheroes. That town I was in was a replica to simulate what it's like to be in the field."
"Tell me, your powers aren't based on your biology, correct?"
"I guess you can say that. I don't know when I obtained these powers but apparently, they were passed down to me some time ago. I can transform into Kamen Rider Decade and another hero called Kamen Rider Gaim,"
"Is he referring to the form where that you described as a samurai wielding an orange slice?" Midnight asked. Decade nodded.
Decade nodded, "The people at Hundred said that other heroes called Kamen Riders have their power laid dormant inside me."
"Hold it, you said that your world doesn't have any superheroes but yet you're able to transform into them?" Aizawa asked.
"Your guess is as good as mine," Decade said. "I never even heard of a Kamen Rider five hours ago."
"And yet you transform into them?"
"Again, they were passed down to me. Whether or not they existed in my world in secret is up in the air. Still, all that matters to them is that I'm able to transform into them and fight against Hundred despite not having proper training."
"You're telling despite having no experience, you defeated those robots with ease?" Present Mic.
"It felt there was some guiding force influencing me when I was fighting against the Magia, those robots that attacked me."
More questions begin to form in the teachers' heads than answers being said. Midnight sighed and turned to Nezu.
"Principal Nezu, should we turn him over to the police and let them sort it out?" Midnight asked.
"No, the only way we can ensure that that his story is true is if we scavenge those robots and see what's in their databases. We'll hold him here for now, if that's okay with you."
"If Futo doesn't exist, then I don't have a home. So I'll gladly take any shelter wherever I can," Decade interjected.
"Very well. I will request that you hand us over your weapons," Principal Nezu said.
"I wish I could, but they kinda just disappear on me. I can summon them though," Decade said as the Ride Booker, his sword, materialized in his hand.
"Your Quirk should've been disabled," Aizawa said.
"My Quirk?"
"It might as well not be a Quirk. My "superpower" erases anyone else's powers as long as I look at them. I had my eyes on you the entire time to prevent you from acting out of line," Aizawa said. "Maybe your story does hold some truth.
"I think it might be better if I can get out of my suit, but it; 's just-" Decade tried to pull off his helmet but in a blur of light, Kazuhiro transformed back to normal. "- stuck on… me."
Kazuhiro looked at his body. He still wore his uniform but it was ruffled a bit. Kazuhiro said, "My powers are thought-based to an extent, I guess it makes sense if I want to de-transform, I just think about it."
A few hours later, Power Loader was in the Support Workshop transferring any data he could get from the Magia. All of the intact parts of these androids were laid out on a table. Principal Nezu walked in to check on the progress of Power Loader's information gathering.
"Did you find anything interesting?" Principal Nezu asked as he sat down on top of a stool. Power Loader walked up to the table of Magia parts.
"For one, these robots are very sophisticated. Significantly more advanced than anything we could produce. If we can somehow reverse engineer this, I think we can create some top-of-the-line robots!"
"I'm talking more about the information that could explain to us Kimura's position," Principal Nezu said.
"Right, well, according to their databanks, these robots were called Humagears and were manufactured by a company called Hiden Intelligence. Neither the product nor the company exists but yet there's enough information that proves that could fill an entry in an online encyclopedia."
Power Loader approached a desk and accessed the files of the Magia. On one window, a symbol of an upside-down hand with six figures was displayed. On the hand was an upside-down spear in red with two eyes. Above it was a crown of some sort.
"It looks like the stranger's words were right. There is an organization called Hundred invading several worlds in the hopes of obtaining the powers of Kamen Rider Decade. However, that's not the scary part."
The Excavation Hero pulled out more windows, one showing various types of humanoids. One group was monstrous insects. Another had pure grey/white skin and armor. There was another type that was robotic like the Magia.
"The group is a collection of various factions that fought different Kamen Riders across other worlds. Hundred promised them that if they defeated Decade, they would be given the powers to restore their former strength. These robots hunted Decade in the hopes of obtaining the power of Kamen Rider Zero-One so that they could be strong again."
"So he is telling the truth," Nezu said.
"What should we do?"
"Does Hundred know he's in this world?"
"I didn't find any tracker on them or any sign of one," Power Loader said.
Nezu was quiet for a second. He jumped off the stool and said, "We need to prepare Kimura for the fight to come."
"You're thinking about enrolling him in the school?"
"I am. He's currently lost in a world he's unfamiliar with. As both teachers and heroes, it's our duty to reach out and help those who are lost," Nezu said. "Of course, I'll give him a choice whether or not he wants to be part of the Hero Course. Regardless, the last thing any of us wants to throw him out like discarded trash."
Power Loader nodded, seeing the point Nezu was trying to make.
Kazuhiro was sitting in the teacher's lounge with Midnight. She and Aizawa were tasked with babysitting. The teenager felt nervous to be around someone of the title of the R-rated Hero. It didn't help that Midnight's costume was more adult than the traditional superhero he's familiar with. However, after talking with her, he got a little more comfortable since she helped him familiarize himself with the world he was in.
A part of Midnight believed that Kazuhiro was potentially from another world after witnessing him using his powers despite Aizawa's erasure ability being activated. She was currently educating Kazuhiro on Futo's rename to Musutafu.
"Huh, man, I'm starting to wonder if my founders of Futo were scumbags," Kazuhiro said as Midnight chuckled.
Aizawa sat on the chair next to the couch. He was silent for the most part. Despite being potentially from another world, he was curious to see what he would be like as a ro-hero. His mind kept going back to his fight as Kamen Rider Gaim. There's potential in him and Aizawa sees it.
Principal Nezu walked into the lounge. He said," I'm back from the Support Workshop. Power Loader managed to find some information that adds credibility to Kimura's story."
"So, what's going to happen to me?" Kazuhiro asked.
"Hundred is still hunting you. According to the autopsy of the robots, there's no tracking device on them so they don't know you're in this world. However, if they found you once they'll be bound to send in their forces. So I have a proposal, join U.A. High School's Hero Course to prepare for their inevitable arrival."
"Are you sure, Nezu? It would be unfair to kick a student out just to be in Kimura," Midnight said.
"Then we'll just have to squeeze him into the roster," Nezu said.
"I don't think that's a good idea," Midnight commented.
"I'll take Kimura in my class if that's okay with you," Aizawa spoke up. "Of course, it is up to him whether or not he wants to join the school."
"It's not like I have much of a choice, right? Hundred is out there looking for me and I can't let them destroy more worlds because of it," Kimura said. "I'll do it."
Midnight smiled at the determination of the young man. She could've squealed in excitement but she tried her best to not ruin the moment.
"That still doesn't account for his living situation. We can't let him stay in the dorms." Aizawa said.
"What about my family? I'm sure they don't mind taking care of two of me."
"I went to the police and investigated to see if you were on any public database," Nezu remained quiet, his face looking somber. "I couldn't find anything on a Kimura or a Kazuhiro living in this city nor did I find anyone matching your appearance."
"That means I'm a complete blank slate?"
"Essentially you are. I can pull some strings and have you become an established civilian but as far as I can tell, you don't… have any family to go to."
Aizawa closed his eyes, feeling sympathetic to Kazuhiro, As for Midnight, she rested her hand on his shoulders.
"Dammit," Kazuhiro said as he looked down. "I guess in hundreds of worlds, some of them are bound to not have my family."
"I can organize to have you stay in a nearby apartment complex under the guise of needing housing to be closer to school," Nezu said. "For now, you can stay here for the night. I think I know a place."
Kazuhiro stayed in the teacher's lounge. He was silently crying over his current situation. It wasn't just a roller coaster of a day, it felt like more like a car crash. The feeling of not knowing if your friends and family are safe weighed heavily on him. It hurt extra hard because he didn't leave his world on the best of terms with his parents.
Aizawa knocked on the door before walking in. He said, "I'm just checking in on you." The teacher noticed the tears on his face.
"I'll be fine," Kazuhiro said.
"It's not going to be easy here on out, but you have the support of the staff of this school. You're not alone," Aizawa said.
"Thanks," Kazuhiro said. Aizawa nodded before leaving Kazuhiro alone. The teenager lay on the couch, wondering what kind of life he could have in this world. It is a blank slate for him.
Author's Corner
Originally chapters 1 and 2 were supposed to be one chapter but this got way too long and I want to try to cap my chapters at 5-6k words. There are going to be occasions where it will be over that but we'll get there when we get there.
As for Decade's powers, I do want to say that the difference between Tsukasa and Kazuhiro is that the powers of Decade and the other Riders are dormant inside Kazuhiro, meaning that if wants to use them he just needs to summon the card in his hand and throw in the driver to "awaken" them. I'm trying to run with Kingdom Hearts logic where if Decade is ever disarmed, he can just summon it back in his hands.
Now Kazuhiro's acceptance may be sudden but I do think that U.A. would try to accommodate him if they have sufficient evidence that his backstory is real.
Anyway, chapter 3 is the last chapter for this first batch of chapters". See you there!
