Today was the day of the UA Sports Festival. It surprisingly garnered a larger this year despite the school being attacked two weeks ago. All eyes were on the first-year students, mainly those of Class 1-A. Pro Heroes and curious citizens were flocking toward the first-year stadium instead of the third-year one. A lone man from the crowd wandered through the stalls. He wore a white cap and a tanned-colored jacket. He observed the Pro Heroes present getting all the guests' attention and showered in gifts from the stalls.
"Pretty big for a high school sports festival. I guess being a hero in this world is such a big deal," the visitor spoke. The man continued to walk towards the stadium presenting the first-year students.
Kazuhiro was in the waiting room with the rest of his class. Ashido entered the waiting room with Ojiro. She was not satisfied that they were all forced to wear gym uniforms.
"I was hoping to wear my costume. This would've been a great opportunity to show it off," Ashido complained.
"At least this will make it fair for everyone else. This is a sports festival after all," Ojiro said.
"But imagine all the attention we'd get if we'd wear our costumes."
"Well someone here is probably going to get all of the attention," Hagakure said as she pointed her arm at Kazuhiro. Everyone around them turned to Kazuhiro, who was listening on the conversation.
"Come on, don't push yourselves down like that. I'm sure you guys will get noticed by everyone else," Kazuhiro said.
"Yeah, but you'd stick out like a sore thumb," Kaminari pointed out.
"That's fair," Kazuhiro nodded.
Iida busted into the room and shouted, "Everyone, get your game faces on! The Sports Festival will start soon!"
As everyone got up and mentally prepared themselves to go, Todoroki approached Izuku.
"Midoriya," Todoroki called out.
"Hey, Todoroki, what's up?" Izuku asked. Everyone turned to the green-haired boy and the half-and-half teen.
"I think from an objective standpoint, I'm much stronger than you," Todoroki said.
"He's not wrong, but why is he calling him out like that?" Kazuhiro thought.
Izuku nodded sheepishly and said, "Yeah."
"However, you have All Might watching your back," Todoroki said. "I don't want to pry on what's going on between the two of you, but know this, I'm going to beat you."
Kirishima stood up and approached Todoroki. He grabbed his shoulder and said, "What's the big idea of picking fights?"
Todoroki shrugged his arm off and said, "We're not here to be each other's friends. Don't forget that this is a competition."
As Todoroki walked away, Izuku spoke up.
"Wait a second, Todoroki," Izuku said. Todoroki turned around and listened. "I don't know what's going on through your head or why you think you need to tell me that you're going to beat me. Yeah, of course, you're better than me. You have the potential more than anyone in the hero course."
"Come on, Midoriya, you don't have to be so hard on yourself," Kirishima said.
"No, he's right. All the other courses are going to come at us with everything they got," Izuku said. "We're all going to have to fight to stand out, and I'll be aiming at the top too."
"Fine," Todoroki spoke with a harsh tone.
"Make some noise, you rapid sports fans!" Present Mic shouted as he spoke through the speaker. The crowd in the large stadium erupted into a roar. "We're going to give you the spiciest, most exciting sports festival in the history of this school! I guarantee it!"
Kazuhiro and the others made their way through the long hallway. They can hear Present Mic speak through the loud crowd outside.
"Make some noise as our students make their way to the big stage!" Present Mic shouted. "This first group is no stranger to the spotlight! You know them for withstanding a villain attack! It's the hero course students of Class 1-A!"
The students walked into the big open field. Kazuhiro felt a bit overwhelmed by the amount of people present. His feelings sank a bit more as he realized that this was probably televised by millions more people.
"They might not have as much screentime when compared to them, but they are chockful of talent! Give it up for Class 1-B!"
Kazuhiro glanced to his side and saw Class 1-B. He recognized the three faces he saw a few days ago. Meanwhile, the man in the white cap spectated from one of the seats.
"So, Decade must be in one of those hero courses," the man in the white cap said.
"Next up, students from general studies, Class C, D, and E!" Present Mic announced as the general education students walked out. "The support classes of F, G, and H! Finally business classes I, J, and K!"
As the students gathered in front of the stage, Midnight stepped forward, raising her flogger-style whip. "Now, for the introductory speech! For the student pledge, we have Katsuki Bakugo!"
"Bakugo?" Kazuhiro spoke out of surprise. He watched as Bakugo walked up on stage.
"Well, he did score high on the entrance exam," Sero explained.
Everyone remained silent as Bakugo stood in front of the mic. Bakugo said, "I just want to say, I want to win."
"Not surprised," Kazuhiro said. Everyone else in his class had a similar, as for the other students there was an uproar of boos.
"Why would you say that? You're representing us all!" Iida shouted.
"Not my fault that everyone else is an extra," Bakugo said. Kazuhiro watched Bakugo walk down from the stage, pushing Izuku with his shoulder.
"Now that that's out of the way, it's time to announce the first game of the festival!" Midnight announced as a projection of a spinning slot machine appeared behind the R-rated hero. It landed on the obstacle course. "All eleven classes will participate in this treacherous contest. They'll lap four kilometers around the stadium!"
Midnight raised her whip and licked her lips, "I don't want to restrain anyone but as long as you're in the course, you're free to do what your heart desires! Take your places, everyone!"
As the students gathered at the starting line, which sat at the edge of the stadium, Kazuhiro began to plan his usage of the Kamen Rider cards. He'll try to remain as Decade throughout the course but he'll probably have to transform into a different Kamen Rider to gain a mobility advantage. As for the other rounds, he'll try to limit to one Kamen Ride card usage. Too many sudden transformations would tire him out quickly and the last thing he'd want was to call it quits early on.
Kazuhiro was stuck by his classmates at the starting line. He noticed that the hallway was significantly narrower to make it a smooth exit. It's going to be crowded. It would be a waste to transform right away. Kazuhiro watched as the lights above the exit began to count down.
Once the final light was off, Midnight announced the start of the match. She shouted, "Begin!"
Unsurprisingly, the second Kazuhiro entered the tight doorway, he was being pushed and shoved. Somehow, he managed to squeeze himself in the front however a sudden freezing wind blew over the ground and froze his legs.
"What the hell?!" Kazuhiro shouted. He realized who had done it. He looked forward and saw Todoroki. He saw Bakugo, Yaoyorozu, and Aoyama using their Quirks to dodge the icy attack and avoid being slowed down by it.
"Should've seen that coming," Kazuhiro grunted as he tried to break free. He summoned the Decadriver and inserted the Decade Rider Card.
[Kamen Ride]
"Transform!" Kazuhiro shouted as he pushed the buckle together.
[Decade]
The transformation sequence of Decade managed to break through the ice. The students around him were surprised by his sudden transformation.
"How come he gets to wear a hero costume?!" a student shouted.
"That's unfair!" another student complained.
Decade pulled out an Attack Ride card and inserted it into his belt.
[Attack Ride: Machine Decader]
Decade summoned his motorcycle and hopped on it. Even more students complained about it.
"Is he even allowed to drive without a license!"
"What a showoff!" another student said.
A part of Decade felt bad for them but he had a position to defend. He can't allow himself to be outperformed by anyone outside the hero course. He drove down the icy road on the Machine Decader. He past a few students, including some of Class 1-B.
"Whoa, did you see that!?" the silver-haired boy shouted as Decade drove past him.
"Huh, nice bike," the girl with the ponytail commented.
Decade eventually drove past his classmates. This caught the attention of some of the spectators, including the visitor.
"Did they allow a pro to enter the competition? Why is he so kitted out?" a man asked.
"What if that armor and bike is part of his Quirk?" a woman guessed. The man in the hat kept watch of Decade every change he was on screen.
Todoroki noticed Decade coming by. He had already passed a few other students like Yaoyorozu and Kirishima and he was gaining speed. Todoroki created a large ice wall to block of Decade. He turned his bike which caused him to slide on the ground. He got off the bike it crashed into the thick wall of ice. It wasn't enough to shattered through it.
Bakugo used his explosion Quirk to himself over the wall. He wasn't going to let anyone catch up with him. A few of the classmates began to catch up to Decade.
"Damn that Todoroki, how are we supposed to cross?!" Kaminari shouted.
Kirishima hardened his body and shouted, "I'll punch through it!"
[Final AttackRide: D-D-D-Decade!]
A line of cards got in between Kaminari and Kirishima. They both turned around to see Decade aiming the Ride Booker at the wall of ice through the cards. The two boys quickly got out of the way as Decade fired a large projectile at the wall to blow a large hole in it.
"Wow, thanks, man!" Kaminari shouted.
The other students continued their race forward, using the hole Decade created. Even though he could've used another Kamen Rider to go over it, Decade tried his best to preserve his cards for more intense scenarios. Although he was unaware of how soon that moment would use his spheres to bounce across the ground, building speed.
"You think you're so cool but I outsmarted you!" Mineta shouted as he was in the air. "Get ready for my secret, special attack! Gra-!"
Suddenly he was knocked out of the air by a robotic claw. Decade and the others watched as he was swatted away. Three giant robots stood in their way. One of them was a cyclops riding on one wheel, the second was a scorpion-like robot, and the third was giant and bulky.
"Those are the robots from the entrance exam!" Izuku shouted.
"Seriously, you guys fought them?!" Decade shouted. Izuku glanced at Decade for a brief moment however his thoughts were interrupted when even larger robots showed up.
"Are those the zero-point robots from the exam!?" Kaminari shouted.
Todoroki quickly froze one in place and managed to run underneath it. Kirishima and the silver-haired boy from Class 1-B took the opportunity to run but the frozen robot was tipping over and fell on top of them.
"Kirishima should be alright, can't say the same about the other guy," Decade said.
Expectedly, Kirishima clawed his way out of the robot's body. He shouted, "If that was anyone else, they would've been dead!"
Unexpectedly, the silver-haired boy clawed his way out of the robot's body. He shouted, "If that was anyone else, they would've been dead!"
The two of them glanced at each other before they returned to focus on the race.
"Huh, they don't have much to worry about with Quirks like those," Kaminari said.
"I know we're racing each other but we can team up for now!" a boy from Class 1-B shouted as scales formed on his arm.
Bakugo ignored the idea and immediately blasted himself into the sky. He was soon followed by Tokoyami and Sero. Decade summoned a Kamen Ride card in his hands and inserted it into his belt.
[Kamen Ride: Fourze]
Decade transformed into Kamen Rider Fourze. Smoke shot out the Decadriver, blinding the people around him. Decade raised his hand in the air as a ring materialized and a ray of light materialized Fourze's suit. As Kamen Rider Fourze, his costume resembled that of an astronaut. It was primarily white with a black-mesh pattern on his chest with two orange lines. His wrist and ankle pieces were large, cylinders with symbols on them. There was a blue X and a yellow triangle on the legs while his arms had a circle and square symbol. His helmet was shaped like a rocket, and a black plate on his face with orange eyes and two antennae.
"He transformed again! Is that the use of his Quirk or a support item?" a student asked.
"I honestly can't tell," another student admitted.
"I don't know, but he looks so cool," a female student admired.
The students of Class 1-A began pushing forward, attacking the first wave of robots. Another wave of robos began to move in while 1-A dealt with the first wave. Fourze stepped forward as he inserted an AttackRide card into the belt.
[AttackRide: Launcher]
A missile racket appeared on his right leg and fired at the robots, clearing the first line of them. As the next wave of robots rolled through, the students began their attack. The ones on the front lines were the students of 1-A with Class 1-B behind them. Their experiences during the attack on USJ gave them the experience to outpace the other students.
[AttackRide: Claw]
A purple claw materialized on Fourze's right arm. He used a small propulsion on his back to boost himself into the and claw one of the cyclops robots in the eye. He rolled out of the way from one of the stinger robots and stabbed it in the eye. He looked around to see if there were any other robots. He noticed a girl with a mushroom-shaped bob about to be attacked by two bulky villain bots from two sides.
[AttackRide: Magic Hand]
Fourze's claw was replaced with an extended, multi-jointed claw. He swiftly caught her as the two robots crashed into each other.
"T-thanks," the girl said. Fourze nodded in silence. Suddenly he heard a student cry out. He turned his attention to Koda, the mute boy in his class. He was being chased by the one-eyed robot. The Magic Hand module disappeared from his right arm as Decade prepared another AttackRide card.
"These robots are aggressive," Fourze commented as he insert the AttackRide card.
[AttackRide: Winch]
On Fourze's left hand, a box with a winch materialized. He threw it at the robot and latched onto it. What the astronaut Rider expected was to hold it down but he struggled to maintain his position.
"Woah!" Fourze shouted as he was pulled onto the ground and dragged by the robot. Sato jumped in the path of the robot and smashed it into pieces with a single punch. His Quirk was in effect as his muscles bulged.
Fourze groaned as he got up. He turned to Sato and said, "Thanks for the save."
"No problem. We have to watch our backs," Sato said as Koda nodded in silence. One of the giant robots began to make its move towards the students.
"Sato! Do you think you can toss me in the air?!" Fourze asked.
"Yeah, but what do you plan to do?" Sato asked.
"Gonna take down that giant robot," Fourze pointed at the giant. "Create an opening for us!"
Fourze pulled out an AttackRide card and inserted it into his belt.
[AttackRide: Drill]
A giant drill module materialized in Fourze's left leg. Fourze extended his arms, expecting Sato to grab them. The Kamen Rider said, "Just spin me around like a discus!"
Sato hesitated but he Fourze and spun him around. The sugar-powered student tossed the Kamen Rider at the giant robot. He pushed his left leg forward and the drill began to spin. Fourze shot through the robot's head like a bullet. He pulled out an AttackRide card and inserted it into the Decadriver.
[AttackRide: Parachute]
A parachute capsule materialized in his left arm. It shot out three parachutes to allow Fourze to land safely. However, when the Kamen Rider looked forward, there were still several robots approaching him.
"Dammit, just how many can the school afford?!" Fourze complained. Luckily for him, Yaoyorozu created a cannon and provided covering fire. She managed to shoot down the small group of these giant robots. Fourze looked down and saw her. He commented, "As expected from a student like her."
When Fourze landed, the Parachute and Drill modules disappeared. Students began running past him now that there was a clear opening. Not wanting to fall behind, Fourze quickly ran forward.
"Found you!" Hatsume shouted.
Fourze looked over his shoulder and saw Hatsume catching up to him. She was equipped with the gear she wore last the Hover Soles, she didn't have to run like the others. Her legs remained stationary as the boots pushed her forward.
"So, here to invasively watch me like you did last weekend?" Fourze asked.
"A little bit, seeing you with those parachutes and drill for a leg doesn't really inspire much but I do look forward to seeing you progress in the future rounds," Hatsume said. "As for right now, I'm aiming to win and show off my babies! See you at the finish line!"
Hatsume sped off with her Hover Soles. There are several AttackRide cards that he could use for Fourze but he's saving them for the actual obstacles. Speaking of obstacles, the next part of the course consisted of a large pit with a stone pillar standing tall. In between the pillars are tight ropes. Fourze managed to catch up to a crowd of students who were still shocked at the sight of this large pit.
"If you thought dealing with the robots was easy, just wait until you reach the second wave!" Present Mic shouted. "If you tumble down, you're out! If you want to pass, get creative! It's "The Fall"!"
Fourze materialized an AttackRide card. Before he put it into the Decadriver, Tsuyu jumped onto the tightrope and began to climb it. Her frog-like abilities made it easier for her to stick to the rope.
"This is my time to shine!" Tsuyu proclaimed.
"Hehe, this is my chance to show off what I can do!" Hatsume declared. "My support items will steal the spotlight from the hero students! Everyone, observe what my brilliant gadgets can do!"
Beneath his helmet, Fourze smirked at Hatsume's showmanship. The Kamen Rider noticed that she was the only student outfitted with support gear from head to toe.
"Hey. how come you you get bring all that stuff?" Ashido asked.
"The students in the hero course get all kinds of training so to keep things fair, we support course students get to bring in our stuff as long as we're the ones who made them!" Hatsume explained. She used her gear to fire a wire at a faraway pillar. "For us support students, this is the perfect opportunity to show off our talents for support companies looking for recruits!"
Hatsume activated her Hover Soles and flew off the cliff. She used the wire to pull herself towards the pillar. She used the Hover Soles to build up speed and go up the pillar, flying off it like it was a ramp. She managed to get pretty far.
Foruze looked in the distance and saw Todoroki and Bakugo far in the distance. It was no surprise that Todoroki was so far ahead. He knew that he could catch up to them but he remembered Aizawa's words the day he announced the Sports Festival. This whole festival is to show off your Quirk so that agencies will notice you. For the festival, he's not only going to do his best but he's going to make it memorable, showing off his versatility as a hero.
[AttackRide: Hopping]
The Hopping Module materialized in Fourze's left leg. It was a pogo stick-like attachment. Fourze hopped back before and angled himself for the next jump. The Kamen Rider launched himself at a stone pillar that was from a far distance. He jumped pillar from pillar with ease before he reached the end. Fourze looked back and saw a few of his classmates like Sero and Aoyama making great use of their Quirks to overcome this obstacle.
"Looking back isn't going to get!" Fourze shouted his thoughts as he turned around. He made a sprint towards the next obstacle.
"Now, we're at the last obstacle for this race! Better watch your step because it's a minefield!" Present Mic shouted. "Full disclaimer, the landmines aren't lethal and are made to throw people into the air! So, you better look carefully at the marked spots on the field if you want to avoid being tossed like a salad!"
"Todorki already made it to the final part of the race?!" Fourze shouted. Suddenly, he heard explosions from behind him. Since the minefield is in front of him, this could only mean one thing.
"Out of my way, loser!" Bakugo shouted as he flew over Fourze. The Kamen Rider fell to the ground as the explosion from Bakugo's arm was set off close to his face.
"Dammit!" Fourze shouted as he got up.
By the time he reached the minefield, Fourze saw Bakugo and Todoroki attacking each other with their respective Quirks. Fourze heard footsteps behind him and knew that the others were catching up. He expected that from his classmates. Fourze extended his arm to materialize an AttackRide card but it didn't appear.
"Don't tell me I'm short-circuiting right now!" Fourze shouted as a few of his classmates began to pass him.
Fourze's limit to use his powers is at most two hours, but using Kamen Ride and AttackRide cards decreases that limit. It doesn't help that he already used a Final AttackRide card that used a good burst of energy out of the Kamen Rider. Luckily for Fourze, short-circuiting is just another way of saying that he needed to catch his breath. Using 9 cards in 10 minutes is pushing his limits. For now, Fourze would have to trek through the minefield carefully.
"It looks like the other students have finally reached the last obstacle! Unsurprisingly those in lead are those in Class 1-A followed up by those in 1-B!" Present Mic shouted.
The visitor in the hat watched as Fourze navigated through the minefield. Earlier he saw him try to summon an AttackRide card and knew he couldn't.
"Looks like Narutaki is right, he still hasn't reached the upper limits of his powers," the visitor said. The visitor knew that Decade would've been able to use his cards with no problems.
Suddenly, Fourze heard a loud explosion from behind and saw Izuku fly over him with a metal shield, which was a component of the robot.
"Midoriya!" Fourze shouted.
"It looks like Class 1-A's Izuku Midoriya is in hot pursuit!" Present Mic commentated. He managed to fly over Todoroki and Bakugo. "He's now taking the lead!"
Todorki and Bakugo began using their Quirks to catch up with Izuku. As soon as they caught up, Izuku raised the metal shield and slammed it on the ground, creating an explosion that sent him flying further away. Using the momentum and force of the explosions, Midoriya managed to fly creating a large amount of distance between him and the others.
Suddenly the AttackRide card materialized in Fourze's hands. He shouted, "Finally!"
[AttackRide: Rocket]
An orange rocket materialized in his right arm. He used it to fly over the minefields, surpassing Todoroki and Bakugo.
"And it looks like Todoroki and Bakugo have been both surpassed by Kimura! Rocking a stylish white suit, courtesy of his Quirk!" Present Mic shouted.
Just past the minefield was the entrance of the stadium. Izuku was already way ahead of the group. Fourze, Todoroki, and Bakugo tried their best to pass him.
"I'm not losing to a masked bastard like you and Deku!" Bakugo shouted. Todoroki froze up the entire hallway of the entrance but luckily for Fourze and Bakugo, they were in the air.
"Who would've guessed that the beginning and the climax of the race would be a nonstop roller coaster!" Present Mic exclaimed. "And it looks like your first place is…!"
Izuku ran past the entrance and Present Mic shouted, "Izuku Midoriya from Class 1-A!"
The crowd erupted in a roar as Izuku wiped tears off his face from his achievements. Fourze managed to burst through the entrance and crash-landed on the ground, followed by Todoroki and Bakugo. Todoroki used his fire half to warm up his other half from excessive ice use. Meanwhile, Bakugo grunted, looking down with a frustrated expression. As for Fourze, pulled the buckle to allow himself to de-transform. The Fourze card flew out, completely blank and now in cooldown.
"Contestants are coming in one after another! Give a round of applause for our runners as we prepare the results!" Present Mic spoke.
The man in the hat was unimpressed with Kazuhiro's performance. He said, "He's not useless, I'll give him that. He's beaten most of the students here who probably dedicated most of their lives to testing their powers. However, he still lost to a kid who hadn't even used his powers yet. Unless the kid is that good, Decade still has a long way to go."
"It looks like the first game for the first-years is finally over!" Midnight announced. "Let's go take a look at the standing, shall we?"
The projection behind Midnight showed where everyone stood.
"Second place, huh? That oughta lead a mark for me," Kazuhiro said as he sat on the ground. Using a total of ten Rider Cards pushed him to the limits this round. He'll be alright as long as has a few minutes to breathe. Kazuhiro made a note to himself not to heavily rely on the Attack, Kamen, or Form Rides cards in a match.
Tsuyu crouched down like a frog. She asked, "Are you okay, Kimura?"
"Oh, Tsu," Kazuhiro turned towards the frog girl. "I'll be fine. Just trying to recover before the next match. Using ten cards in a single match can be exhausting for me."
"I see, so does transforming strain your body?"
"A little bit. I don't know if I'm giving myself a placebo but I feel like it's getting easier and easier every time I transform," Kazuhiro spoke. Everyone turned when Midnight made her announcement for the next game. "In due time, I'll be able to use 10 cards with ease."
"Only the top 43 students will proceed to the next game. Don't be down if you didn't make it. We prepared other opportunities for you to shine," Midnight chuckled before licking her lips. "For those in those moving, it's time for the real fun to begin. A real chance to make yourself noticed!"
Midnight raised her whip as the wheel began to spin. She said, "Let's see what we have in store for you next! Prepare yourselves for the next round!"
The wheel landed on a cavalry battle.
"That's a team game right?" Kazuhiro asked.
Tsuyu nodded and said, "It is. I wonder how they'll be splitting up the teams."
"Allow me to explain, each of you will form teams of two to four, however, you see fit. It's the same as the playground but there is a twist. Each player will be assigned a number based on their position in the obstacle race. The higher the placement, the more points you have." A projection of the scores appeared behind Midnight. "For example, the bottom place is five and each one going up will increase in increments of five. However, first place is special as he is assigned ten million points!"
"Ten million?!" Kazuhiro shouted as he stood straight up. He looked at Izuku, who stared blankly from the revelation. "
"It's going to be rough. This is the survival of the fittest! Those at the bottom can have a chance to claw their way to the top!" Midnight declared.
Author's Corner
Welp, the time has come for the UA Sports Festival! The way I want Kazuhiro to approach the festival is to be strategic with his use of Rider Cards. He won't be forced to use certain Rider cards unless he's forced to. This is probably why you saw the lack of speed-oriented Riders being used in this chapter. As for him getting second place instead of something lower or even 1st was because I wanted Kazuhiro to get the center of attention during the festival.
I know it's probably cringe to have an OC outperform most of the students, even the likes of Todoroki and Bakugo, but seeing how his Rider cards continuously surprise everyone, I wanted to make it so that always has a card up his sleeve. Pun fully intended.
Response Corner:
christianrajapaksa345 (from chapter 9): In my eyes, Violent form and even Complete forms are Tsukasa's. I want to divert Decade's own forms into something else that is exclusively Kazuhiro's.
brave kid (from chapter 9): I'll say this, they can't use anything created by Decade. The weapons and tools are specifically bonded to him. It's basically similar to the Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts.
