It begins with an actor,Johnny Cage begun doing some action act,but he was branded a fake by the media. He found a note that invites to compete in the Mortal Kombat tournament. He met Sonya Blade,Jax Briggs,Stryker,Kabal,Kenshi Takahashi,Nightwolf,Kung Lao,& his friend,Liu Kang at the Wu Shi Academy where They soon met Raiden,who explains to them about Mortal Kombat.
After their training is finished,They go to Outworld where they met Edenian Empress Sindel & her daughters,Kitana & Mileena. They brought in the Lin Kuei Clan members,Sub-Zero & his brother,Scorpion,Smoke,Cyrax,& Sector. They even brought Two Shokans,Kintaro & Sheeva,& Kano,whom Sonya held a grudge against. Shang Tsung,Quan Chi,Baraka,Reptile,& Ermac,who are sent by Onaga & secretly let by someone,came in to participate.
Mileena wouldn't participate,due to not feeling well ever since confrontation with the Tarkatans. Johnny Cage faces off with Smoke and wins. Sonya Blade won against Li Mei & Jade. Sub-Zero,whose real name is Bi-Han,tells the Lin Kuei to kill any Earthrealmers once they beat them. Liu Kang fight against Kitana and wins. He tells her that she fought very good. After Kenshi won against him,Reptile begged him to be killed,but He refused.
Scorpion,whose real name is Kuai Liang,defeats Nightwolf,but refuse to kill him. Sub-Zero confronts Scorpion for disobedience. The two brothers fought eachother and ends with Scorpion accidentally killing Sub-Zero. As everyone saw this,Onaga & his army of Tarkatans attacks the kingdom. General Shao reveals to be a traitor who allows them in. Onaga corrupts Mileena in her Tarkatan form. Baraka stabs Kenshi in the eyes. Sonya & Jax won against Kano & Sheeva,but Ermac tore out Jax's arms. Stryker defeats Baraka,But Kintaro burns Kabal.
Liu Kang & Kung Lao defeats Shang Tsung & Quan Chi before they against Ermac & Kintaro. Liu Kang defeats Ermac. As Kung Lao gets overpowered,Kenshi telekinetically levitates his sword,Sento into severed one of Kintaro's hand,allowing Kung Lao to decapitate Kintaro. Raiden helps Sonya take Jax back to Earthrealm.
Onaga kills Kung Lao before being confronted by Liu Kang & Johnny. Shao joins in and faces off with those two. Kenshi levitates Sento and hurls it into Onaga's chest,allowing Johnny to kick it deeper into his heart,killing him. Quan Chi mind control Sindel & Mileena and releases Kano before the burnt Kabal was taken. Shao took over the throne as Shao Kahn. Johnny,Liu Kang,Nightwolf,Kenshi,Kitana,Jade,Li Mei,Stryker,& 3 of the Lin Kuei fled back to Earthrealm. Jax is recovered with his mechanical arms. Kitana comforts Liu Kang about Kung Lao's death as Raiden assures them that they'll figure a way to defeat Shao Kahn's army. Johnny takes Sonya on a date.
Mid-Credits:
Kuai Liang formed the Shirai Ryu and met a boy,who introduced himself as Hanzo Hasashi.
Post-Credits:
Shao Kahn gathered his armies and declared war against Raiden & the Earthrealmers.
