10/16/2656- Union Division Defects To The Federation, Other Units Follow

"Today, the 11th Infantry Division of the Union Army, a unit formed primarily from Prolar nationals, killed most of its higher officers and defected to the new Federation, leaving their base at Fort Indefatigable and joining Federation forces in other areas. This defection opened a floodgate, leading to 5 percent of the Union's forces within the region defecting to the Federation, with an additional 4 percent dying, being captured, or surrendering due to the defections, many being spared the death penalties due to pleas from former comrades among the defectors. A number of other units took up the Federation's offer of peacefully leaving, directly in opposition of their orders from the Union, with another 30 percent preparing to leave soon. This leaves the Federation with a large amount of Union equipment, including several bases, orbital stations, and warships. Many of the new defectors are being put to work not only supporting Federation units, but training new troops and militia forces, reinforcing the Federation's systems."
