Sorry for the long time since I last posted. That's ADHD for yah, and work, and life.
Chapter 4
Mistpaw was worried as she carried little Cinderkit in the the Twoleg...city called Viridian City. The bleeding had stopped back in the forest, but Cinderkit seemed very tired. Plus, they had another problem as all of them continued along the road as it became Sundown: Not one of them knew where the Pokecenter was (Ashpaw, Mistpaw, and Badgerpaw had no memories of Viridian City, Pikachu had only been to the city once, and Dustpaw, Cinderkit, Sandpaw, had never even been to a Twolegplace, let alone one in this world.) That was making Mistpaw nervous.
"Are you okay, Cinderkit?" asked Sandpaw as the light tan apprentice padded up beside Mistpaw and Cinderkit.
"I'm...fine..." muttered the small kit in Mistpaw's tired jaws. She had been caring the kit since the forest. Mistpaw placed smokey-grey kit on some grass near a twoleg building. The rest of the group gathered around.
"Can someone else take her now, please?" asked Mistpaw.
"I can do..."Firepaw (still with mud on his flame colored pelt) was interrupted by loud voice coming from the building they where next too. All the cats arched their backs as the voice said: "Attention, citizens of Viridian City! Attention, citizens of Viridian City! We have reports of possible Pokémon thieves in our area! Be on the lookout for suspicious looking strangers! Repeat - Be on the lookout for suspicious looking...huh? What are those?" The voice stopped, and a few moments later a human female covered in blue pelts (or clothing as Prof. Oak had said) walked out of the building and toward the group of cats.
"Wow, actual cats! I've not seen one in years!" she said as Mistpaw tried to calm down from the scare of the loud voice. Which sounds like this twolegs, I mean, human's voice. This is still so hard to get used to. She thought as she watched the human get closer to the ground and stick out a hand that was covered in blue fabric. "Here, kitty kitty."
Greypaw (who was the closest to the human) looked at the hand, then at the human's face. "I ain't going to sniff it." he mewed. Mistpaw watched as what she assumed was shock (she still could not recognize all the human expressions, especially since they had no tails to express with.)
"Did...did you just speak?" asked the human.
"Yup!" said Ashpaw cheerfully.
"I must be hallucinating." the human stood up to her full height and using her hands, rubbed her eyes.
"It's still weird to think twolegs can understand us." meowed Firepaw. The human brought her hands down from her face and continued to stare. Firepaw then explained "We are the Thunderclan apprentices. I'm Firepaw."
"I'm Greypaw" replied the grey kitten as he licked a paw.
"Dustpaw" said Duspaw without enthusiasm.
"Sandpaw!"
"Badgerpaw."
"I'm Ashpaw, and I'm on a Pokemon journey!" mewed the fuzzey black kitten.
"What?" said Jenny surprised. "How can you be on a Pokemon journey.
"I don't see what that has to do with anything." replied Ashpaw. "Besides, Professor Oak gave me this Pokedex on my back."
"A Pokedex? May I see it?" asked the human.
"Um, sure, I guess." The human then bent down and unbuckled the red plastic mini Pokedex. She stood back up, opened it, and then pressed a button, which caused the Pokedex to speak:
"I'm Dexter, a Pokédex programmed by Professor Oak for Pokémon Trainer Ashpaw from the town of Pallet and Thunderclan. My function is to provide Ashpaw with information and advice regarding Pokémon and their training, as well as a form of identification. If lost or stolen, I cannot be replaced"
"I didn't know it did that." whispered Ashpaw.
"By Arceus, you really are on a Pokemon journey." said the human as she placed the Pokedex back on the kittens back.
"Told yah! And this is my starter, Pikachu!"
"Sorry to interrupt, but what about Cinderkit?" asked Mistpaw.
"Who's Cinderkit?" asked the human.
"This little kit right here." replied Mistpaw as she bent her head down and gave Cinderkit a lick.
"Oh my goodness! What happened?" the human female asked.
"She was attacked by a...what was it called again?" asked Sandpaw.
"A Fearow." said Pikachu.
"That's right, a Fearow." replied the sandy colored cat as she flicked her tail.
"This is an emergency! Wait right here." The human queen turned back to the building and walked inside.
"Where did she go?" asked Greypaw.
"No idea" replied Mistpaw. Suddenly a growling sound came from inside the building as a large piece of the building started to move up. Mistpaw watched as the piece of building stopped, and a light flashed at them.
"Monster!" hissed Greypaw as a strange white beast came out of the building with the human on top. Mistpaw had only been by the Thunderpath (or road as she was now remembered it) once, but it was enough to nearly cause her to sprint away at the sight. She turned and looked at Firepaw, who seemed to be taking the sight of the white monster in strides.
"Firepaw, why aren't you scared?" asked Ashpaw.
"Because my housefolk has one. I think they called it a motorcycle." said Firepaw. He turned to the other cats "They game me a ride on it once."
"Didn't it try to eat you?" asked Dustpaw.
"Why would it? It's not alive!" replied Firepaw.
"It's not?" asked Sandpaw.
"Of course not!" snickered Firepaw.
"Why didn't you tell me when we crossed the Thunderpath to go to the moonstone?" questioned Greypaw as he narrowed his eyes.
"Wait, you thought all those cars on the road really where monsters and they would eat you?" Mistpaw watched as Firepaw as he sat down and started laughing, his flame colored tail moving back and for in amusement. "Ha, ha! I thought that was just the name clan cats called them!"
"Stupid kittypet." mumbled Dustpaw.
"Motorcycle...hey, I think I remember now!" meowed Ashpaw who had been deep in thought. "There was a few in Pallet town growing up."
"Ok all you cats and Pokemon, get in the sidecar!" said the human as she used her hand to motion to the thing next to her. Duspaw gave it a look of apprehension before she got distracted by something on the front of the machine. "Darn light still..."
"Come on you scardy-mouse!" said Mistpaw as she nudged him with her orange furred head. "This is for Cinderkit!" She then turned to the smokey grey kit that she had placed in front of her paws. Cinderkit looked tired as she breathed heavily, spasms shaking her smaller body as the injury moved in and out with head intake of air. "Cinderkit, I'm going to lift in my jaws again and leap into that...sidecar. OK?"
"Okay..." murmured Cinderkit.
"Are you sure that's a good idea, Mistpaw? asked Sandpaw.
"I'm the best leaper! Remember that competition we had a few days ago?"
"Yes, but you have never carried something as big as Cinderkit in your jaws when doing it! Besides, you carried her all they way from the forest and said you where tired." meowed Sandpaw.
Mistpaw knew Sandpaw was right, but something in her was annoyed by it. A memory filled her mind. One of Ashpaw, Sandpaw, and her out with their mentors Runningwind, Mousefur, and Whitestorm. It was nearly a moon ago when it happened. They had been out hunting, and Mistpaw had been tracking down a mouse that was behind a root of a large tree. Unfortunately, she had stepped on a twig, which cause the mouse to to bolt. She still leapt, but missed it by kitten-step. Mistpaw cringed as she remembered what happened next, as her sister Sandpaw caught the mouse. Back then, she felt embarrassed and she still did. Technically, Sandpaw was the first one out of their mothers womb, and seemingly was better at many things than Mistpaw. Not that Sandpaw ever rubbed it in, but deep down Mistpaw felt like she had to show she could be just a good as her sister.
"I can do this!" Mistpaw shot back. She picked up Cinderkit, and perhaps in haste, leapt for the opening in the side car. Mistpaw half way through the leap realized, however, she had misjudged just how heavy Cinderkit was and the two were headed right for the shiny white side of the sidecar.
"Let me help you two!" came the voice of the female Twoleg/Human. Mistpaw suddenly felt a human paw grab her around her chest and stop her and Cinderkit just before they hit the beast. Slowly, she and Cinderkit were lifted into the monster sidecar? Ugh, these twoleg, or human phrases were confusing! thought Mistpaw Once she was placed inside and the female let her go, she place Cinderkit down on the soft surface as Firepaw landed on down besides them.
"That was close!" he said.
"I don't want to talk about it." replied Mistpaw.
"But..."
"I said quite!" Mistpaw said with a slight growl. She walked to the other edge of the surface and layed down, facing away from Firepaw and the others as they had all made it in.
"Ready? Hold on!" said the female twoleg/human. Mistpaw heard her sit down, then came a load road, and the monster started to move, fast.
Happy Pokemon Day!
