Chapter 2: Shadow of the Swarm
(Outworld - Shao Kahn's Coliseum)
Within the Shao Kahn's Coliseum, Shang Tsung was currently being punished for his failure to punish the one who slaughtered his soldiers. Bloodied and beaten, Shang Tsung groaned as he looked at the emperor. "It wasn't my fault, sire. The Earthrealmers were there, protecting the beast that slaughtered your troops." He informed him.
"I have heard enough of your excuses!" Shao Kahn said as he was still recovering from his fight with Liu Kang, his scars being a visible reminder of his battle with him. "I may have failed to conquer the realms, but with the Elder Gods gone, nothing can stop me from conquering the realms in one fell swoop." He declared.
"But sire. The Earthrealmers new ally… he is unlike any beast I've ever seen." Shang Tsung informed him.
Not wanting to hear anymore of his rambling, Shao Kahn turned towards Mileena. "Daughter… take his head." He ordered.
She grinned as her tarkatan features grew from her mouth. "With pleasure." She said as she approached the sorcerer, with every intent of devouring his head whole.
He panicked as he looked towards Shao Kahn. "Sire, please! Give me another chance to bring that beast before you, to have him kneel at your feet and beg for mercy as I am!" He pleaded as Mileena pulled out her sai's and attempted to stab him, that was until thunder clouds appeared above the coliseum as everyone within witnessed in surprise.
Noticing it as well, Shao Kahn held out his hand and halted Mileena's attempt to kill the sorcerer as he stood up from his throne and stared at the thunder clouds. Streaks of lightning formed in the clouds till one bolt darted down to the coliseum and crashed in the center, revealing Ghidorah himself as he stood before the emperor and looked at him with his blood red eyes and his fanged grin. "What is the meaning of this?!" Shao Kahn demanded an answer.
"Ahh, Emperor Shao Kahn. You're looking well." Ghidorah told him as he approached.
"Do I know you?" Shao Kahn asked him.
"More than you can imagine. But then again, I'm not exactly in the form that you remember. Maybe these will refresh your memory?" He asked as his massive wings sprouted from his back, revealing to all as everyone gasped in shock as his wings spread over his head.
Shocked upon seeing them, Shao Kahn recognized the wings from before as he recalled a three-headed dragon with the same wingspan. "Impossible…" He muttered as he looked at Ghidorah. "How is this even possible?" He asked.
"I know much time has passed since we last met. But as you can see, I've gone through many changes since then." He gestured to his current appearance.
"Why do you appear before me now?" The Emperor asked.
"Because I know who killed your troops, and that none of your warriors are capable of killing him." He declared.
That was when Reptile approached to confirm it. "He's right, sire. I've witnessed his strength first hand." He informed him.
A soft hum came from Mileena as she recalled seeing him in his human form. "He was certainly a looker." She mused.
"Mileena, keep hormones in control." Tanya advised her.
"Oh please, Tanya. You were thinking the same thing." Mileena teased her as Tanya rolled her eyes, playfully.
"What do you know of this warrior?" Shao Kahn asked him.
"That he has lived 562 years, less than how long I have when I ruled Egypt." Ghidorah explained as he chuckled. "But you met his father, Dagon Tanaka." He informed him.
"Dagon? The Earthrealm warrior who survived against my fighters?!" He asked him.
"The same. But he died when I raided his village in Japan. But there was one survivor. His son, Gojira Tanaka." Ghidorah informed him.
"You told me that you would destroy Dagon's entire clan. Yet you let one live?!" Shao asked in disbelief.
"To make an example, I assure you." Ghidorah replied as he walked around the emperor. "I wanted to see what he would become, to see what power he possessed. You're always looking for a challenge, are you not?" He asked him as Shao raised a brow, curiously as he made a valid observation. "For you to challenge Earthrealm's most powerful monster, it would be a tremendous honor." He informed him as his neck stretched out, his head forming into dragonic features as his tongue trilled against the roof of his mouth. "Are you really going to pass up the opportunity to face such a powerful creature?" He asked him with his devilish grin.
Hearing this made Shao Kahn grin as he knew this would be the one opportunity he cannot pass up. "Reptile…" He called to him as he stepped up to the Emperor. "Journey to Earthrealm, keep an eye on this, Gojira. Then report back what you learn." He ordered.
"Yes, Emperor." Reptile answered as he vanished and walked away, knowing that spying on the Earthrealmers will truly be risky business. Even for a Zaterran such as himself.
(Earthrealm - Special Forces Base)
Back in Earthrealm, Sonya and Jax were examining the Gyaos head that Gojira brought before them. Sonya let out an exhale as she was trying to get used to seeing this creature's face, despite being heavily damaged. "In all my years, I've never seen anything like this." She declared.
"Neither have I. I mean its DNA is unlike anything on the molecular level." Jax stated as he looked towards Cyrax. "What do you make of it, Cyrax?" He asked him as the Lin Kuei Cyber scanned the DNA.
"Despite being unique, the creature is different from any known organism I've ever encountered. What exactly is this thing?" He asked.
"Gyaos." Gojira spoke its name as they looked at him. "They're not of Earthrealm, Outworld, Edenia, or any realm known. Their only function is to devour, and destroy everything they set their eyes on." He informed them.
"Okay, so… how many of these things are we talking about?" Sonya asked him.
"Thousands, maybe more. They always travel in swarms." Gojira informed her as he walked up. "Gyaos are ruthless scavengers that will kill you without a second thought." He declared.
"Remind you of anyone?" Johnny asked in reference to Baraka.
"But why would these things just appear so suddenly?" Cyrax asked curiously.
"When I found this one, it was an outcast. It sought to feed on me as I traveled the Pacific. When I killed it, I noticed the scars that were inflicted upon it. Gyaos often fight amongst themselves, even devouring one another when food is scarce." Gojira explained.
"Cannibalism… not uncommon." Cyrax surmised.
"If this one was an outcast, where is the flock?" Sonya wondered.
While Gojira approached, he looked over the map and examined it carefully. "The area of water where I encountered the Gyaos was here." He pointed to a large body of water. "Off the coast of Mexico. It came from the North, it's likely that it came from either one of the states. From either California, Nevada, or even Idaho." He informed them.
"For someone who's lived on an island most of his life, you sure know your states." Jax commented.
"I didn't always live on the island." Gojira informed him as he looked at the map. "But the swarm could be in either one of these states on the West Coast." He informed them.
Thinking it through, Cyrax thought of something immediately as he approached the computer. "Maybe there is a way to track abnormal patterns. If these creatures feed on anything they set their sights on, there could be a trail of information online." He suggested as he searched for anything revolving around massacres and huge swarms.
"Gotta love the internet." Johnny commented as he approached.
Searching through the internet, Cyrax managed to find reports and news footage and online videos of the Gyaos swarm. "Found it. There have been cattle ranches being robbed of livestock in California, an entire wedding party being devoured in Nevada, and a hunter was killed with his youngest son on the border of Texas." He revealed them.
"They're heading here… and I wonder why?" Sonya asked as she looked towards Goijra suspiciously.
Seeing it, Gojira knew she was right to be suspicious of him. "It's more than likely that when I killed that stray, the swarm sensed it as a challenge. Like animals, they'll do anything to defend their territory." He informed them.
"And we're basically ground zero." Jax muttered.
"There is one advantage we have though. These creatures are nocturnal predators, they can't stand sunlight unless they evolve to the point they can shield their eyes from its dangerous rays." He informed them.
"Like a vampire on Sunday." Johnny jokes, only to get elbowed by Sonya as she walks off.
"Attention security! We need to set up UV Lamps around the perimeter immediately. This is not a drill!" She informed them as she walked with her allies and looked towards Gojira. "We only have a few hours before the sun sets, and I need to know now. How many more of these things are out there?" She asked him in regards to how many Kaijin like him there are.
"That are like me…? 17, and counting." He informed her as he followed. "The one who was supposed to be handling the Gyaos was supposed to keep them in check. But I haven't seen him in 15 years. He is either recovering from his injuries with the swarm, or they killed him." He theorized.
"This oughta be interesting." Johnny said as he followed, but as they walked, Gojira suddenly stopped as he looked back. His eyes were blind to what he was staring at, but his nose could smell something else. Johnny noticed it as he stopped. "Hey, what's up big guy?" He asked.
Staring at the wall, Gojira's eyes shifted from human to reptilian as he saw the heat of a familiar Zaterran body as his tail sprouted and he snared him by his ankle and threw him around and slammed him against the wall, making his camouflage deactivate. "Seems we have an uninvited guest." He said.
"Reptile?!" Sonya said in shock.
Groaning from the harsh treatment, Reptile stood up on his feet and rubbed his neck. "It would seem I underestimated your keen sense of smell." He surmised and looked at Gojira. "Not even my camouflage can hide me from you." He said.
"When you've lived on an Island for as long as I have, you learn to recognize the scents of all animals. From mammals, to reptilians." Gojira informed him as he crossed his arms. "So explain why you're here." He demanded.
Still feeling discomfort from the impact, Reptile adjusted and twisted his back to fix himself up. "I was assigned by Shao Kahn to spy on you. Then to report back to him what I learned. But… there is someone there, who even I have grown to fear. A reason for me to abandon Shao Kahn's campaign." He admitted.
"Likely story." Sonya rebuked, not believing a word he said.
"Hold on, Lieutenant Blade." Cyrax stepped up and showed a holoscreen of Reptile's heart rate. "His heart rate is pulsing heavily. That is a sure sign that he has been struck with fear, but the question is, what?" He wondered.
"Because this golden figure that stood before Shao Kahn, had the makings of a god… if not a devil." Reptile informed him.
This revelation made Gojira's blood boil as he sneered and growled. "Ghidorah…" He muttered angrily.
"Precisely…" Reptile replied.
"But how did he get to Outworld?" Jax asked.
"Ghidorah isn't exactly of Earthrealm, much like the Gyaos." Gojira explained.
"Gyaos?" Reptile questioned curiously.
"A swarm that could devour entire worlds." Gojira explained as he looked at Sonya. "Get the perimeter set up. We can't afford to wait, the sun is almost down." He told her.
"This is turning into a Bram Stoker Dracula routine." Johnny commented as he ran with Sonya and Jax.
"This ain't gonna be like Dracula, Cage." Jax told him as he ran with him.
Meanwhile, Gojira looked at Reptile who stood calmly. "Unless you want to be locked up, I suggest you help out. That is if you really are considering leaving Shao Kahn's campaign." He told him.
"He conquered my realm, slaughtered my people for sport. I have every reason to resent him for it." Reptile informed him as he took off his mask. "I'd rather stand and fight for Earthrealm than to fight for a dime-or-dozen petty dictator." He told him.
Nodding his head, Gojira rushed off with Reptile to help with the defenses around the base. As the day was slowly turning to night, the Special Forces were working to set up the UV lamps around the perimeter. Liu Kang and Kitana were helping set them up as they set the lamps down and looked towards the sky. "It won't be long now… if those creatures are nocturnal, how will these lights keep them at bay?" Kitana questioned.
"UV lights from what I learned are very dangerous for most nocturnal creatures. It's almost like sunlight, if used in the proper setting." Liu Kang explained as he set up the lamp and plugged it in. "That should do it." He said as Sub-Zero approached them.
"The rest of the perimeter is set up, and Lieutenant Blade is inspecting them to make sure they're optimal." He informed them.
"And Reptile?" Kitana asked him.
"Being a lookout, with Scorpion keeping an eye on him." He looked towards the top of the base, seeing Reptile keeping watch on the evening sky as Scorpion watched him from behind, holding his spear in hand.
Seeing it put Kitana's worries at ease. "It is hard to imagine he would leave Shao Kahn's conquest of the realms." She admitted.
"Not all beings in Outworld are evil." Liu Kang told her as she turned to face him. "Shao Kahn gave them a choice. To serve, or die. That's how conquerors work." He explained as he looked towards Reptile. "Reptile is as much a victim as anyone in his need to conquer the realms." He stated.
"And he nearly succeeded because the Lin Kuei didn't aid in Earthrealm's defense." Sub-Zero said, feeling ashamed of his clan's previous deeds. "We were too busy slaughtering an innocent village, and turning our clansmen into cybernetic. All to aid a Mad God in destroying the realms in one fell swoop." He rebuked in disgust of his clan's choices.
"At least you were one amongst many to rebel. That should count for something." Kitana assured him.
"But I couldn't save Smoke from that fate." Sub-Zero retorted, regretting not being able to save his brother from that fate.
"We will find a way to restore them, Kuai Liang." Liu Kang assured him as he touched his shoulder. "Somehow, we will find a way to bring them back to being human." He told him till he looked towards the setting sun. "It's almost night, with any luck, our lookout should find the swarm." He insinuated.
"I see something!" Reptile called out as they turned towards him. "Something is approaching from the northeast." He informed them as the defenders turned towards the sky, noticing something white as snow flying towards them.
Johnny took off his shades and looked at it carefully. "Hold up, is that thing… white?" He asked as he turned towards Gojira who approached. "Are these Gyaos things rarely white?" He asked him.
"Not to my knowledge." He admitted as he observed the figure, the albino Gyaos warrior flew down towards them knowing what they possessed, but she landed a few feet away and stood up, showing an elegant figure as her wings turned into regular arms and she looked towards the defenders.
Seeing she stood alone, Gojira remained on guard as the albino approached them casually. Johnny meanwhile, couldn't help but eye her curvaceous figure and let out a wolf whistle. "Wow, she's got some nice curves for a monster chick." He complimented, only to get punched by Sonya in the balls, making him yelp and hit the ground. "Yeah, I deserved that." He muttered.
Meanwhile, the Albino stood a few feet from the defenders but looked at Gojira. "Are you the one who killed the outcast?" She asked him.
"My claws are still stained with his blood, what's it to you?" He asked her.
"Bigger question, who are you?" Sonya asked as she approached.
"I am Irys, Commander of the Gyaos Legion under Lady Emiko's command. She discovered the fall of our former flockmate and wanted us to investigate the incident. And to find out that he was killed by the most feared Kaijin Warrior ever to exist in this realm, I don't know whether or not to commend you for killing him, or to kill you to avenge him." She said, feeling conflicted.
"Whether you commend me or not, I was only following my instinct to defend myself." He told her.
She nodded her head in response as she looked him in the eye. "Still though, orders are orders. Lady Emiko wants you dead." She informed him.
A hearty laugh came out of Johnny when he heard it, earning Irys' attention as she looked towards him. "Wow, that's something. But there's one big problem with that. There's literally a ton of us, and only one of you." He reminded her, but a devious smirk formed over her face when she heard it. She let out an ear piercing shriek as a large number of eyes snapped open within the darkness behind her.
Eyes widened, Johnny could feel his blood running cold and his skin crawl just upon seeing it while Reptile approached him and observed the swarm that revealed itself in the field. "You had to say something, didnt you?" He asked him as he turned towards the actor.
"You can fight if you want, but not even a single Kaijin Warrior can stand against this swarm." Irys warned him as her fellow Gyaos cackled with glee.
Kitana observed the swarm as she grew nervous of the situation. "Not even the Tarkatans could stand against something like this." She stated.
"Judging by the numbers, I'd say we're looking at thousands." Smoke calculated the estimated number.
"Numbers they have, but let's see how they like UV Lamps." Sonya suggested as she pressed a button, turning on the UV lamps as they shined upon Irys and the swarm, causing them to shriek while Irys was unfazed by the light.
She smirked at them as she stood calmly. "My brothers and sisters may hate the light… but I've grown more accustomed to it." She warned them as she spread her wings and inhaled deeply, unleashing a violet laser beam towards them, the defenders ducked from it as the laser sliced through the lamps like a knife through butter.
Seeing the lamps were down, the Gyaos swarm took flight and charged towards the base. "Guess she's evolved further than the others." Sonya surmised as Irys shrieked to the swarm as it took flight, the Special Forces soldiers prepared their automatic rifles and took aim. The swarm charged towards them and prepared for a new slaughter. But before they could reach them, Gojira shifted into his Kaijin form and snarled while unleashing his aether breath against the Gyaos. Some of them got burned and died instantly, but the rest of the flock spread out and avoided his breath. The Special Forces soldiers fired upon the swarm to get a few kills in. Some were wounded, while others were killed. But the rest charged through the barrage and attacked the soldiers, using lasers to slice through them while others mauled the soldiers to death.
One of the soldiers shot at the Gyaos swarm with a pistol, getting a few headshots as he turned and saw another Gyaos attempting to kill him. Scorpion threw his spear at it and pierced its skull and ripped it off, saving the soldier before he could become its next meal. He nodded to Scorpion as the spectral ninja pulled out his katana and sliced through the Gyaos warriors, cutting them down as they were sheets of paper. While Sub-Zero froze a few of them, making them frozen statues as he avoided the talons of one that was flying. One of the Gyaos Warriors attempted to blast him with a laser, but he quickly rolled away as the beam sliced through the ground.
He knew if that beam made direct contact, he would either be cut in half, or lose a limb. He formed an axe out of ice and flung it at the one that tried to slice him with its laser, making direct contact with its head as it froze in mid air and fell to the ground, shattering to pieces while more came in. Johnny avoided the talons and snapping jaws from the Gyaos warriors as he landed a punch against each face that attempted to bite him. One tackled him down and pinned him as it hissed and tried to bite him. He grabbed its jaws and tried to keep it from getting close, till its tongue lashed out and tried to lick him. "AAHHH! TONGUE, TONGUE, TONGUE!" He exclaimed as he kicked it in the chest to push it back while he got up and kicked its jaw, forcing it to bite its own tongue off.
It shrieked in pain from it as Johnny landed several punches against the flying cannibalistic Kaijin. He soon landed a harsh shadow kick against its torso, kicking its upper body off from its lower body. He exhaled as another Gyaos attempted to attack him from behind, only for Reptile to tackle it and bite down on its head while in reptilian form. The Gyaos warrior shrieked as it struggled, but Reptile's acidic saliva dripped around its head, melting it as Reptile crunched down on its skull, killing it as he spat out the remains of its skull and looked towards Johnny. "Keep your wits about you. These creatures will not give you a moment to rest." He advised the actor as he clawed through another one.
"Thanks, I totally got that." Johnny replied as he put on a pair of brass knuckles and punched a Gyaos hard in the face. "Got two big lizards fighting for us, and I'm wielding a pair of brass knuckles." He muttered while punching each Gyaos that came at him. Meanwhile, Sonya had her rifle and shot the heads off of each Gyaos that tried to attack her, wherever she aimed, she managed to shoot down each Gyaos that attacked. When one tried to attack her from behind, she took the buttstock of her rifle and slammed it against its skull, fracturing it as the warrior writhed in pain from it.
It shook its head and snarled at Sonya and went to kill her, only to get snared by a cybernet from Cyrax. He pressed a button that activated the net and electrocuted the Gyaos warrior till its head popped. He formed a saw blade and sliced through several Gyaos and chopped one's head off and threw a bomb at another one, it combusted in the creature's face and took away half of it as its body fell down. Cyrax soon felt a Gyaos bite his arm as he struggled to break free. He could feel it trying to rip his arm off, till Smoke appeared and formed a blade from his arm and he sliced its head off. He formed his body into nanobots and flowed into one of the Gyaos Warriors, taking control of its body as it shrieked in pain from the technological possession.
He used the Warriors body to attack its fellow brothers and sisters, using its laser to slice through several of them as they retaliated by pouncing on him and ripping him apart. Tooth and claws tearing through the fallen Gyaos while Smoke snuck out in nanobot form and reformed his entire body and blasted the group with his palm lasers. He turned out and saw more coming in from the north. "These things are like cockroaches." He said while avoiding a talon from another Gyaos as he formed a karambit knife and stabbed it in the head, splitting its head open as he tossed the body away and threw the karambit as it sliced through the chests and chopped their hearts into many pieces. He caught the karambit as it returned to him and he grabbed a Gyaos by its head and crushed it.
Meanwhile, Kitana threw her steel fans and sliced through the necks of each Gyaos warrior that came at her. She caught them when they returned to her as she threw down a torrent of sir that launched the Gyaos warriors into the air uncontrollably. She leapt towards them and slashed through their bodies and stabbed them in their heads and hearts. She threw one steel fan and cut it from its crotch to its head. She landed on the ground and caught her steel fan when it returned, while a Gyaos attempted to attack her, only for Jax to shoot it in the head. "Keep your eyes open, Princess!" He yelled as he shot at the other Gyaos warriors.
One Gyaos charged its laser and went to slice his bionic arms off, he saw the laser coming and quickly avoided it as he threw a knife into its neck, forcing it to choke on its own blood. Seeing it was refusing to die, Jax grabbed its head and twisted it to snap its neck, ending its life for good. He blocked a kick from one of the warriors and deflected one's talons as he grabbed them by their necks and smashed their heads together, splattering them as he cleaned off his bionics and shot another Gyaos head off. Elsewhere, Liu Kang parried the attacks of three Gyaos that ganged up on him. He landed swift jabs against the trio, hitting each of their nerve points to paralyze them as he kicked off their heads.
He avoided a talon slash from another Gyaos as he landed fast jabs against its chest and face, then hitting it with a swift uppercut and knocking its head clean off. He launched a ball of fire at four Gyaos that were flying in, burning them alive as they shrieked and fell to the ground. He saw one above him that came down for an overhead strike, he flipped backwards and lunged towards the Gyaos and landed a bicycle kick against its chest. On the final kick, he knocked its torso away from its limbs while kicking its head at the other Gyaos that was charging. He landed on the ground and looked towards Gojira who stood off with Irys, the two stood their ground while the battle around them ensued.
He growled at her as Irys hissed with a malefic grin, she spread her wings and snarled showing off her threat display, while Gojira raised his tail and slammed it on the ground. He snarled at her as Irys shrieked while he let out a roar. "SKREEEEEEEEOOOOOOOONNNNNGK!" He finished his roar as the albino Gyaos charged towards him. She attempted to strike him, but he leaned back and avoided her strike as he landed punches against her back, side and slammed a hard kick against her as she rolled across the ground but flipped back onto her feet. Using her talons to grip onto the ground as she dashed towards him and slashed at him, he saw it and dodged her talons to avoid getting cut.
Before he knew it, she managed to blast him and cut through his hard skin with her laser, making him shriek from it as he held his arm where she shot him. She grinned as she licked her lips. "I cannot wait to taste your blood." She said with seething hunger as she charged in an attempt to bite into his flesh, but he caught her by her neck and swung her around. He tossed her away as she spread her wings and took flight, he watched her fly and circle back to charge. He inhaled as his eyes and doral plates glowed blue and he unleashed his aether breath against her. She narrowly avoided it as she charged and grabbed him with her talons.
He writhed in pain from it as she tried to dig her claws into his flesh, he snarled till he bit down on her leg, causing her to shriek as he pulled hard and dislocated her leg from her knee. He slammed her to the ground and went to stomp on her, she rolled away as she quickly fixed her knee and leapt into the air and kicked his face. Gojira stumbled across the ground and unleashed another torrent of his aether breath against her. She fled from the stream as it blasted several of her brothers and sisters, the Earth Defenders saw it as they quickly ducked under it as the stream barely missed them. "She's gonna force him to kill us before he kills her." Liu Kang surmised.
"And we can't warn him without getting singed." Kitana stated as Gojira stopped his attack and saw her charging close, she snarled and bit down on his arm where he was bleeding. Upon biting him, Gojira snarled as his aether energy built up through his body and he unleashed his aether shockwave. This attack blasted Irys away as she shrieked and crashed against the ground, she hissed from the burns that were inflicted upon her as she shot a glare at him. She snarled to her brothers and sisters to attack him, they charged at Gojira and ganged up on him. He tried to strike them off, but more pounced on him and tried to hold him down.
Irys growled as she walked towards him as he struggled, she grabbed him by his chin and forced him to look her in the eye. "As amusing as it would be to keep you alive, I have to follow my orders. I will enjoy taking your head to Lady Emiko." She declared as she charged up her laser in an attempt to slice his head clean off. Till suddenly she was kicked in the side by Liu Kang who knocked her away, Scorpion appeared and threw his spear as it traveled through the skulls of the Gyaos that held down Gojira. Breaking free, Gojira snarled as he unleashed his aether breath upon incoming Gyaos that attempted to attack him.
He looked towards Liu Kang and Scorpion who stood beside him. "Do not get in the way, Irys is mine to finish." He told them.
"Not when you're fighting against many." Scorpion told him.
"Scorpion's right, Gojira. You may have fought more than your fair share of demons, but these are more than you can handle."Liu Kang said to him as he looked towards Irys. "They seem more vulnerable to fire, even yours." He surmised.
"Irys seems to be more resilient than the others, defeating her will not be easy." Gojira told them.
"But she can be weakened." Scorpion insinuated.
"We'll keep the other Gyaos off of you so you can defeat Irys." Liu Kang told him as he blasted them with Scorpions help trying to destroy them, while Gojira nodded and charged towards Irys. She flapped her wings and kicked against Gojira's chest and slashing at his face with her talons. He writhed from it and retaliated by smacking her with his tail. She fumbled but flapped her wings to balance herself as Gojira attempted to strike her, she deflected his attack and smacked him in the face with her tail. Landing a few kicks against him as she went to bite him, he grabbed her by her jaws to keep her from biting him. He snarled angrily as he threw and unleashed his aether breath against her.
She avoided his projectile and kicked a rock towards him, smacking it against his chest as he stopped his attack. Irys grinned and charged at him, blasting him with her laser to cut him. He grabbed a dead Gyaos and shielded himself from her projectiles. He tossed the body away and blocked her attacks while landing a few punches against her, even taking a few hits from her in retaliation. Her tail whipped around and snared his neck as she flapped her wings and flew off with him, dragging him across the ground as he shrieked from it and struggled. Liu Kang saw it and shot a fireball towards Irys as it burnt her tail.
She cried out in pain from it as her tail burnt off and she snarled at him. "You burnt my tail! YOU BASTARD!" She snarled angrily and charged at him, but Gojira caught her tail to prevent her from attacking him as she flailed and struggled to get free. He pulled her back and threw her from Liu Kang as she shrieked and slammed against the Special Forces base wall. She let out a painful grunt when she felt it, she groaned in pain from it while Gojira attempted to crush her underfoot. But she avoided it as she flew off, while her Gyaos brothers and sisters went to kill him. Scorpion appeared and threw his spears through their skulls, pulling them hard on the chains as he ripped their heads from their shoulders.
Gojira took the opportunity and unleashed another torrent of his aether breath at Irys, by her brothers and sisters shielded her from his attack as they were burnt alive by his projectile. She watched them fall as she looked towards Gojira with fear in her eyes as he glared with glowing blue eyes. "Now you know why I am the most feared in Earthrealm. I suggest you take what remains of your brothers and sisters, and GO HOME!" He yelled as he growled furiously towards her.
She panicked, knowing that she was no match for him. But that didn't stop her from glaring as she flew away. "Gyaos Legion, focus your attack on the rest of his allies, and KILL THEM!" She ordered as she flew away, the rest of the swarm snarled as they prepared to risk their lives against Gojira's human allies.
Seeing the entire swarm, the Earth Defenders felt that this number would be too much for them to handle. "Okay, big guy, I hate to point out the obvious, but we're a little tired, and we're outnumbered." Johnny informed him.
"I doubt even your breath can kill them all at once." Kitana said to him as she looked up at the swarm as they prepared for the kill.
Gojira's eyes narrowed till he noticed something in the sky as it approached at fast speeds, causing him to smirk as he charged up his aether energy. "I won't need to." He told them as the defenders looked at him surprised, but looked towards the sky and saw what he was looking at. Something was spiralling through the sky and slicing through several Gyaos warriors as an arm reached out and grabbed one of them. It descended and slammed the Gyaos on the ground, crushing its skull as the object revealed itself to be a shell. Most of the defenders were surprised while some were confused at what they were looking at.
Gojira meanwhile smiled, knowing who it was as extra limbs popped out from the shell. The head soon popped out as the new Kaijin warrior revealed himself to be a turtle with razor sharp teeth and underbite tusks. He growled as his tail slammed on the ground and he turned towards the Gyaos, seeing their fear overcoming their courage. Johnny looked at the massive turtle in surprise then looked at Gojira. "Is that a turtle?" He asked him.
"He is more than just a turtle. Watch and see." Gojira advised as the Defenders watched the massive turtle standing before the Gyaos, growling furiously towards the flock as he began to inhale very deeply. Everything around the Defenders swirled around them as they watched the turtle take an enormous deep breath till he took in all that he needed and glared at the Gyaos. Smoke spewed from his mouth as flames built up within it.
Jax saw it as his eyes widened, realizing what the turtle was attempting to do. "Everyone… I suggest that we get down!" He yelled as he and the other defenders took cover, but not Gojira. He held his ground while the turtle unleashed a powerful stream of fire as it blasted the entire swarm as the cried out in pain and boiled alive in unrelenting heat. The defenders could feel the heat from their cover as the turtle destroyed the entire swarm, ending their lives as he ceased his attack.
He growled seeing the burnt field he left in his wake. Gojira smiled as he walked towards the turtle, while the defenders peaked over their cover and saw the results. "Wow… and I thought the big guy was a power house." Johnny commented.
"At least that turtle managed to destroy the entire swarm." Smoke commented as he flicked a piece of flesh off of his armor.
"I almost thought you were dead, old friend." Gojira said to the turtle as he turned towards him. "Where have you been, Gamera?" He asked him.
The Kaijin warrior he referred to as Gamera (Rebirth Design), stared at him as he inhaled and shifted to his human form, revealing a warrior that had a Greek or Atlantean aesthetic armor to his outfit. He had short hair, and bluish green eyes as he looked towards Gojira. "The Gyaos almost did kill me. But they should have known that I am more resilient than they believed." He told him.
The defenders stepped out of hiding and approached them, "So, this is the guy who was supposed to keep those oversized rodents in check?" Johnny asked them.
"I must say, his armor is akin to Greek or Roman." Sonya observed his attire.
"Atlantean, actually. I was born on the continent of Atlantis before its unfortunate downfall." Gamera informed them.
"Wait, Atlantis?" Liu Kang questioned as he approached. "The lost continent that sank beneath the ocean due to a volcanic eruption?" He asked him.
"It wasn't just because of the volcano, but my battle with the first Gyaos swarm. Thera was caught in our struggle as we caused it to erupt. Forcing my beloved home to sink below the ocean. Leaving no survivors." Gamera shut his eyes, knowing the city he was supposed to protect was destroyed by his own rage.
"But that Albino Gyaos mentioned a Lady Emiko, could she be…?" Jax questioned.
"If anything…" Gamera paused and looked towards the Defenders. "She may very well be the last living descendant of Atlantis." He informed them as their eyes widened, having a hard time processing all that they're learning while Gamera turned towards Gojira. "And if you made an enemy of them, you'll certainly make an enemy of her." He told him.
"And there will be others." Gojira surmised.
"You said there were seventeen." Kitana said as she approached. "How many specifically are we talking about?" She asked.
"Now…? Who knows…" Gojira answered as he looked amongst the other Defenders. "And Ghidorah will have likely allied with half of the 17 Kaijin that are in hiding." He explained.
"And the rest would be with you." Scorpion assumed.
"Which is why we will need your aid should Ghidorah and Shao Kahn attack us." Sub-Zero declared.
Narrowing his eyes at the Lin Kuei, Gojira stepped up to him as Sub-Zero held his ground, sensing his powerful aura around him. "You may need my aid, but I will never trust you humans. Because humans are selfish, greedy creatures. You and the Lin Kuei are no different." He declared.
Ashamed of his clan's reputation, Sub-Zero knew that Gojira's words run deep in the truth of what they did. Cyrax eventually stepped in to intervene. "We know that the Lin Kuei made horrible choices. But with Kuai Liang now the Grandmaster, he will change the way our clan has worked." He assured him.
Gamera approached his fellow Kaijin and touched his shoulder. "We were all human at one point in our lives, Gojira. And we evolved to what we are now. Which is why we will need all the allies we can get in this fight against Ghidorah. Be they human, or Kaijin." He told him.
But this did little to convince Gojira while Sonya looked at the remains of some of her fellow soldiers. "Right now, we need to tend to the wounded, and pay our respects to the fallen." She told them as she walked to tend to them.
Kitana looked towards Gojira and walked to him as he turned towards her. "Despite your mistrust, not all humans are as you described them. There are good, decent souls within the realms. Some didn't want to be part of Shao Kahn's campaign, Syzoth's people being among them." She informed him.
Upon hearing Syzoth's name, Gojira saw him approach and stand next to the Edenian Princess. "Your majesty, we have a new problem." He informed him as she looked at him.
Within the field of the Special Forces base, Outworld refugees had arrived via an Outworld portal. The Defenders along with the two Kaijin approached the massive group as Sonya stepped forward with Jax. "How did they get here?" She wondered.
"Beats me, there's no sign of any of Shao Kahn's other goons, except her." Jax pointed out, seeing Li Mei (MK1 New Era design) as she approached them. "Li Mei… this is certainly a surprise." He told her.
"I understand you do not trust me after what happened during the tournament. But I'm only here because I want to protect my people from the Outworld Capital, Sun Do." She explained as she gestured to her people. "Word of Shao Kahn having a new ally struck fear into our hearts. I knew the only way to keep my people safe was to come to Earthrealm, even if it meant breaking several rules." She explained.
"Basically, you need refuge." Sonya surmised.
"Yes. I know it is a lot to ask, but please. This new ally of Shao Kahn's was unlike anything I had ever seen." She informed them.
"Ghidorah seems to be making a name for himself already." Liu Kang insinuated.
"And will likely gather more of his allies." Kitana added.
Syzoth turned towards Sonya who gave him her attention. "Now do you believe me? With Ghidorah being Shao Kahn's newest ally, others like me would want to get as far away from Outworld as possible." He told her.
"I guess you're not lying after all." Sonya said to him as she turned her attention to Li Mei and approached her. "We will have a refugee camp set up for you and your people. We just need to register their names, and help them settle into Earthrealm." She offered.
Nodding her head, Li Mei walked with her as she noticed Gojira, who was watching her. She could see the eyes of vengeance in his eyes, sensing the power within him as she walked with Sonya. Gamera watched her as he looked towards Gojira and smirked as he elbow nudged him. "She's quite beautiful, isn't she?" He asked him.
"Don't… even… start." Gojira told him as he walked away, while Gamera chuckled in amusement.
(Unknown Location)
Within an underground base, Irys was smacked in the face by Emiko (Emiko from Gamera Rebirth, what a psycho.) who glared at her for fleeing from battle. "You have the audacity to return without Gojira's head, and leave your brothers and sisters to perish at the hands of your greatest enemy!" She yelled.
Irys wiped the blood from her mouth as she glared back at Emiko. "I did what I had to, to survive. You may have created us, but I was the only one who was able to evolve beyond my kin." She reminded her.
"You pride yourself on your evolution, yet you have learned NOTHING! I may have lost the flock today, the so-called Defenders of Earthrealm are expanding their forces while ours continue to dwindle! We cannot allow this to happen." Emiko scolded as she stepped up to her. "When the new swarm is ready, you will finish what we started. All for the glory of King Ghidorah." She declared as a carved drawing of Ghidorah showed on a wall, Irys stared at it and narrowed her eyes as she kneeled and bowed.
She knew that she owed her life to Emiko for giving her life, and to Ghidorah for making her leader of the Gyaos flock. But she hated every second of tolerating them, no matter how hard she wanted to kill them. All she had to do was utter the words that Emiko needed to hear from her. "Long live the king." She said with a hint of disgust, knowing that Ghidorah and Emiko were both psychotic, worse than any other creature that she knew. But she couldn't do anything to stand against either of them, for now at least.

But I'm sure the guys running the website are trying to fix the issues, depending on what the issues may be. Anyways, this is the latest chapter of Mortal Kombat Legends: Titan Wars. I thought it would make a few interesting twists and changes to some of the characters. And yes, Irys the Albino Gyaos, created by Tarbtano and Faith-Wolff on Fimfiction for Godzilla the Bridge, I included her in the story. Don't get any crazy ideas, I'm already swamped right now. I'm trying to get a new computer, I'm trying to pay rent, handle my taxes, the whole shebang. But I hope you guys will read this chapter, and I hope you enjoy it.)
