Tamir is a Bajoran struggling to adjust to life after the occupation. Freedom doesn't come as easily as it should and he is deeply troubled by the past. Before he can put his mind to rights, his oppressors return and one in particular seeks him out. Already struggling, he feels as if he's drowning. He wonders if he'll ever escape their shadow and the hold they have over him.

Shame and guilt are often underliers of trauma from war. It is a continuous challenge for Nog to live with the memories of losing his leg.

Odo returns to the family he didn't know he had after twenty years away and must confront each member before he can attempt to settle back into his life on DS9.

Odo finds himself hesitant to investigate Quark, afraid of what he might discover. Will Odo uphold the law and uncover the truth, whatever it may be, or will he try to protect Quark?

Doctor Bashir is finally forced to address his colleagues' repeated failures to support both Garak and himself.
