The Bard Class is Made Out of Bard's

2nd Song

Come Alive Stripped

The forest is a dangerous place, more so than in the old world that she used to live in. Where before the most dangerous things that could happen if you go into a forest is to get lost or face a wild animal, say a wolf or a bear, in this second life of her's the degree of dangers are much higher.

There's still a danger of getting lost, it's more or less a universal thing she thinks, but the existence of magic and monsters most certainly raises the stakes several fold.

Because here wandering the forest has a chance that could lead to an encounter with monsters. Be it the generic magical beasts like goblins or kobolds, or even beasts like magic wolves and magic bears.

The magic is attached to their names because yes, even the wild animals in this world could use the occasional magic, and are most certainly far larger and more dangerous than the ones in her old world.

The plant life is also different of course, discounting the fact that plant monsters exist and most of them would enjoy humans as a meal and a light snack, the occasional poisonous ferns or thorns that exist to inconvenience travelers from the smallest of scrapes exist to test the living of their resolve to survive.

"So I'm telling you all to be careful. Make sure not to make too much noise or touch any random plants. Or if you do, at least ask me first if they're poisonous or not." Best she could hope is that they accidentally go through a paralytic bush so that she could point and laugh at them as they spasm uncontrollably on the ground.

"Hmph. Something like mere poison won't do much against my heroic constitution." The self named 'Great Hero' scoffed at her warning, holding his shortsword high as he raised it as much as he could. Letting the sun's ray reflect off of its pristine metallic surface and right into her face.

She flinched and looked away from the literal blinding sight, holding a hand in front of her as she continued. "Right… just making sure." She's throwing the first poison Berry that she finds right at his face. See how his so-called 'Heroic Constitution' would fare against that.

"So cool…" She heard Brad whisper under his breath as he looked at Halloween in awe, and she could physically see the black haired boy's ego grow three sizes larger in real time.

"Umu. And besides, even if, and that's a big IF." The great hero Hallow began as he lowered his blade, sheathing back into its scabbard at his side. "If I, or anyone in my illustrious party were to get poisoned, then our Saint Maria could simply use her magic to cure them of their illness."

"Ah, that's right, Hero Hallow!" The girl dressed in a priestess garb said as she clasped both hands together in a prayer. "My daily prayers to Goddess Sophia have blessed me with the healing magic Minor Cure! And with it, I can cure any measly poison that we could ever come across on our journey!" She beamed as she looked up towards the sky.

Though her smile grew slightly strained as she looked towards the jet black clad Hero. "But um, I am just merely a Priestess, Hero Hallow. To call me a Saint would be blasphemous-"

"Nonsense! No matter what, you're a Saint in my eyes Maria." The boy clad in a leather chestplate under a pitch black cape said with a wink, and she could physically see the way the blonde's eyes turned into hearts.

"I-I see… t-thank you, Hero Hallow." She blushed under the Hero's praise, and she had to do her best to keep herself from gagging at the amount of synthetic sugar that she was seeing in front of her.

A glance to her side showed Louise, dressed in a dark blue robe that hid almost all of her features, pouting at the attention that her 'Hero' was putting on Maria. Gripping the wooden cane in her hand harder than as she saw the two interact.

She turned again, hoping to still find a shred of sanity in this group of children who were certainly losing it, and found her eyes locked onto Lark's.

For a single moment, both the party's Bard and Spearman shared an understanding between one another. And she couldn't help but be relieved to know that there was at least one sane person in this party.

Yet she still couldn't help but sigh, one that her lance wielding friend also did. She's at least not suffering alone, that's something at least.

"Right, uh, it might still be best if we are careful." Lark said with a strained smile as he tried to mediate, and Hallow glanced towards him before nodding his head.

"Yes, of course! Caution is of the utmost importance in adventuring after all." The jet black hero said with a nod. "Though such a thing is not needed for this simple adventure, we are merely here to slay a pack of goblins after all."

"No, we're not." She said with a hiss, glaring at the black haired boy. "We're acting as preliminary scouts to see if there is a gathering of goblins in the forest. So that we can then tell the old-village chief so that he could make a request to the adventurers guild."

Normally, a job like this wouldn't be given to a group of thirteen year olds. But the great hero over there managed to charisma roll his way into getting it for his party. Which also included her, mostly due to his' insistence.

Three years have passed since the Job Assessment, and she's been training on what's most likely the incorrect way to be a Bard from this world's standards, but she wouldn't have it any other way.

After all, the Bard counted as a Support Job, and a mediocre one according to the old coot's stories. A job that's focused on enhancing allies and hampering enemies through use of musical instruments and the occasional magic.

A bard's weapon of choice is, of course, their instrument. Along with the optional off hand weapon of a short sword or a dagger.

And while she does have those, her knife is supposed to be used for carving carcasses and game and her harmonica is the smallest instrument that she could carry, most Bard's don't really run off with a pair of crossbows and shoot magic until they pass out.

So she's trying to live up to her namesake, what's wrong with that! If she has to sing while fighting, she's going to be singing wack cool anime songs while she's shooting explosions! It's what she's been training all these years for!

Not like she could actually dual wield her crossbows. She's been training with them for three years and she gets the occasional bullseye but she's not that good. Her second one is essentially a spare for now in case anything happens to her first one. For now.

The Hero's snort brought her back to reality. "Pah! They're just a bunch of goblins! There's no need for any of us to worry!"

She wanted to open her mouth and scold him, a normal occurrence after her friends have been forcing her to hang out with the insufferable hero for the past three years since he hamfisted his way into their party with everyone else's consent, but Louise got to it first.

"U-um, I-I don't believe that we-that we can go up against a-a group of goblins…" The shy Mage said with a raised shaking hand. The thought of having to confront the monsters no doubt terrifying her.

Yeah you tell him Louise! They're just here for a scouting mission not a goblin extermination one!

"Hmph, Louise, my dear Archmage." Hallow said as he stepped towards the robe-clad girl and placed a hand on her shoulder. The meek girl letting out an 'Eep!' as her face turned crimson.

"I am a Hero who will lead this party to glorious victory! Who will let us carve our name into history! A mere band of goblins would never stand a chance against our might!" He said with full grinning confidence, giving the girl a wink like he had done earlier with Marie.

"Ha-hawawaaaa!" And their resident Mage simply melted at his touch, not at all able to face his 'charisma' being thrown her way at full force.

Louise! No! How could you! Just as she was gaining her trust again!

She shook her head to focus for the nth time of the expedition, her long silvery white ponytail swaying left and right as she walked past the pair, who in contrast were getting a glare from Marie. "Alright everyone we've wasted enough time here and we haven't even gotten that far. We need to make sure we're back before sundown."

She was not going to get lost in the forest at night because the bozo wasted too much of their time monologuing and blatantly flirting with Marie and Louise.

"R-right. Let's go." The thankfully other sane member of their party followed her. And after Lark, Brad came with a shrug, and soon enough Hallow, Marie and Louise came with.

She hummed a tune under her breath, both her range of vision and hearing sharpening as she took point. Making sure that the others followed her properly as she walked past paralytic plants and poisonous bushes. No matter how much she wanted to push some of her other party members into them to point and laugh at their suffering.

Ignoring the fact that she was essentially acting as a proper Scout instead of the rearguard buffer that she was supposed to be, not that anyone seems to realize it, she led her party members deeper into the forest. Tuning out any and all inane ramblings and monologues that Hallow seem to pull out every five minutes.

Soon enough, she stopped. Pulling a half up beside her to stop Lark from going past her.

The brown haired Spearman frowned as he met her gaze, nodding his head before turning towards the others and placing a finger on his mouth, a universal sign for everyone to be silent.

Because in a small clearing in front of them, just beyond the large tree and bushes that were hiding them, was a small green bipedal creature wearing only a loincloth to cover its unmentionables under its pot belly. Long sharp ears twitching as its head seemed to turn at the briefest of noise while its hand gripped on its wooden mace tightened, before the creature returned to resume its walk.

Okay, monster spotted. Now the question was is it a random goblin of a part of-

Hallow rushed past her and Lark and leapt with his blade brandished above his head. "Take this! Great Hero Strike!" He roared at the top of his lungs as the small green creature hastily turned towards him.

The sneak attack landed, if only barely. The slash only grazed the goblin who let out a shriek of pain, stumbling back as crimson liquid escaped from its mortal confines.

"That idiot!" She hissed as she raised one of her crossbows, the other still remaining in its holster as she quickly took aim and shot. Her hastily made shot only grazed the goblin's ears, warning yet another loud shriek from the monster.

It was at this point that everyone else seemed to snap out of their funk. Lark leaping forward and following Hallow with spear in hand, while Brad let out a war cry as loud as his lungs would let him before he joined the fray.

Before Marie and Louise could go on and join them, she held a hand out and stopped them. "Don't go out into the clearing!" She hissed. "We still don't know if that thing is alone or strayed off of its group! Those three should be able to handle just a single goblin."

And sure enough, they did. There was certainly no way that a single creature like a goblin could stand against three barely teens with sharp metal weapons jumping him. And who else but the self named 'Great Hero' landed the finishing blow as his short short went through the monster's torso.

With one last pathetic shriek, the goblin's yellowish eyes went dark, its wooden mace dropping from its hand as its body went limp.

Taking his blade off of the monster's body and letting it simply fall onto the dirt below him, the black haired Hero swung his bloodied sword with a disgusted expression. "Oh ew I got goblin blood all over me! Ew!"

"Man that was sick Hallow! That monster didn't stand a chance!" Brad shouted with a grin, which made the black clad boy to immediately strike a pose with a hand on his head and blade pointed towards the ground.

"Why of course! There is no chance that a wicked creature like that measly goblin could handle my Great Heroic Strike!" He declared with a flourish of his still bloodied blade, making specks of blood fly all around the clearing.

"Ooh! So you already have a named attack!? That's so cool!"

"Y-yes of course! What else could my Heroic Great Strike be!"

As the brown haired spearman watched the byplay between the swordbrained Bard and the narcissistic Hallow, she shouted from her hiding spot as her enhanced hearing heard the rustling of leaves.

"Lark be careful! More are coming!" And she grabbed Louise's hand as she dragged her. "We need a better hiding spot, come on! You too Marie!"

The spearman heeded her warning as he kept his guard. And from the bushes leapt another pair of pot bellied goblins, one holding a wooden cane in one hand, and the other wielding a sharpened wooden stick like it was a spear with both of its hands.

"Louise!" She called out to the black haired girl, loading another bolt into her crossbow and releasing it. Letting the bolt fly past their three vanguards who went to engage before the pair of goblins could attack first.

"Y-yes! Oh flames, hear my call-" The robed clad girl began to chant. Her staff pointed forwards as a small red circle manifested from its point.

With a wild swing, the club wielding green creature defended itself from her attack, the crossbow bolt embedding itself on its wooden weapon, but leaving the green creature for Lark's spear to stab through its stomach.

The other one engaged in melee with Brad and Hallow. The goblins use its spear to keep the two sword wielders in range. Keeping both of them out of their preferred range as it kept screeching and wildly swinging its spear.

"-obey my command! Fireball!" And as she finished casting her spell, a small orb of flame manifested from the slowly spinning crimson magic circle and shot forward.

"Brad, Hallow!" Maria called out to the pair of swordsmen, yet instead of immediately following her orders, the two instead ignored the enemy right in front of them to turn towards the Priestess.

"Huh? Whoa!" The red haired boy said, eyes widening as he saw the flying orb of fire, but managed to barely leap back.

The same however, could not be said for their great Hero. The goblin uses his momentary confusion to stab it's spear forward. "Gah!" The black haired boy screamed as the sharpened wooden spear stabbed his side.

"HALLOW!" Maria screamed right as Louise's fireball hit the attacking goblin. The monster let out a loud screech as it was struck by the magical attack, letting go of its spear as it flailed its burning body uselessly.

Hallow stumbled, eyes wide and body shaking as he saw the spear that was lodged to his side, falling to one knee with trembling hands and sword clattering on the ground.

Maria instantly leapt to his side from their hiding spot, her hands extended towards his wound, a green magical circle spinning into existence as she chanted. "oh Goddess Sophia hear my prayer-"

"Someone take out that spear first!" She hissed out as she followed Maria's lead and leapt onto the clearing with Louise hastily following.

Her shout snapped the stupor that their resident Swordsman was in, as he stopped staring at the injured Hero and rushed to his side with curses. "Shit! Fuck! Sorry man, this is gonna hurt!" The brown haired boy then grabbed the spear, and yanked it out of Hallow.

"ARGWHYAH!" The black haired boy shouted at the top of his lungs, convulsing in pain as he held his side, with Brad holding him still to stop him from making his injury worse.

"-bless this pitiful soul and mend their injury! Minor Heal!" And right on que green light began to emit from Maria's hands. Magical energy knitting back flesh together as Hallow's injury was, well, healed.

She's seen it before when Maria healed small scrapes and bruises, but seeing Heal used on an actual injury real time definitely gave a different feeling.

All while this was happening, Lark, Louise and herself were securing the perimeter. Making a sort of triangle formation with the injured Hallow and his two caretakers in the middle. Standing on guard in case any other goblins appeared to attack them while he was being treated.

Which thankfully did not happen. She let out a breath that she didn't know she was holding and lowered her crossbow. But still kept her eyes and ears alert in case of anything else coming their way from the commotion they caused.

"We're clear for now." She said as she spared a glance towards the injured Hallow, Lark doing the same and Louise immediately went to his side as soon as she said so. "Are you good enough to walk?"

"Gack, of course I'm not good enough to walk! I got stabbed!" The black clad hero hissed with a hand on his side, sitting on the ground with Maria holding his shoulders in worry.

"Maria's Heal should have taken care of your injury." She muttered before switching to the blonde beside him. "Did it hit any of his organs? It was on the left side of the body so maybe a kidney? His stomach maybe?"

"I-I don't know." Their Priestess spoke aloud as she shook her head. "B-but my Heal should have been able to take care of it."

"Tch. Then try casting it again. Brad! Lark! Can you two get the proof for killing the goblins? And preferably bury them too!" She said, giving orders to the pair of vanguard who nodded their heads.

"Ah dang it, if I knew I was doing then I would have brought a shovel." The red haired Swordsman grumbled as he sheathed his blade and used his hands to dig a small hole. While Lark chuckled and took out a knife.

"Can't be helped about that. We were just here to scout, not to actually fight against actual monsters." The brown haired boy said as he cut off all of the goblins' right ears, taking them as proof of their successful subjugation. And then began carving their chest to take out a small bloody crystal from their chest.

"So small. I guess that makes sense since they're goblins." Lark muttered as he pocketed the magic stones that he excavated from their corpses, briefly holding his nose as he had to take one out from the burned goblin, before helping Brad with burying them.

"Hey Chris! What was that all about!" Hallow hissed as both Louise and Maria helped him stand, his complexion seemingly better after two minor healing magic had been cast on him.

She merely raised an eyebrow at his question, still keeping an eye as she was the only one not having her hands full. "What?"

"Don't 'what' me! Why'd you order Louise to shoot that Fireball! We had that handled!" He hissed out as the black haired mage winced and looked away.

"Right, the way you and Brad clearly not having a clean shot at a goblin that was keeping out of both of your ranges despite being outnumbered clearly showed that you had it under control." She muttered under her breath before letting a sigh as she shook her head and gave the black haired boy a look.

"Look if we're going to argue about this, we'll do it later back in the village where we're safe. And one of us isn't clearly injured." The jet black Hero scowled before begrudgingly nodding his head.

"Fine! But this isn't over!"

"I honestly wish it was." She mumbled with a tired sigh as Lark and Brad finished their impromptu burial, and the party made their return to the village.
