Lincoln vs. Paul (Round Two)
With the Wallace Cup behind them, Lincoln and his friends are walking down 213 on their way to Pastoria City where Lincoln's next gym battle awaits him.
Feeling he was behind on training his Pokemon during the Wallace Cup, he took the time to train them.
Lincoln's Infernape, Bastiodon, and Floatzel got stronger, his Zoroark learned Shadow Claw, his Dragonair learned Aqua Tail, and his Victreebel learned Leaf Storm.
Clyde spent time training his Pokemon; during the training, his Psyduck began to glow.
"Hey, Psyduck's evolving." said Clyde. Psyduck began to grow and change shape; when he stopped glowing, she was blue, had four spikes on the back of her head, a red gem on her forehead, she had legs, she had clawed fingers and toes with cream colored webbing between them, and her tail was long. Lincoln points his pokedex at his newly evolved Psyduck.
"Golduck, the Duck Pokemon, and the evolved form of Psyduck. The flippers of its well-developed limbs give it shocking speed. It is the best swimmer among Pokémon." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"That is so cool." said Lincoln.
Sam's Pokemon got stronger, and her Kricketune learned Screech; after all the training, her Prinplup and Luxio started to glow.
"Whoa!" said Lincoln. "Two evolutions at once!"
Everyone watched as Sam's Pokemon all started to change; when they were done, Sam's Prinplup was bigger, her body was mostly black, her flippers looked sharper with three spikes at the ends of each one, and it had a three-pronged emblem on his face.
"What's Prinplup now?" asked Clyde, prompting Lincoln to point his pokedex at Sam's newly evolved Prinplup.
"Empoleon, the Emperor Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Piplup. It swims as fast as a jet boat. The edges of its wings are sharp and can slice apart drifting ice." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"And this says she's part steel type now, and she knows Aqua Jet and Metal Claw now." said Lincoln.
"What about Luxio?" asked Simon as he was looking at Sam's Luxio, which was bigger, and mostly covered in spiky black fur except her face and back of her legs; Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at this Pokemon also.
"Luxray, the Gleam Eyes Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Shinx. When its eyes gleam gold, it can spot hiding prey, even those taking shelter behind a wall." said Lincoln's pokedex.
Simon trained his Pokemon; his Croconaw learned Crunch, his Aron learned Iron Head, his Slugma got stronger, his Heracross learned Brick Break, his Gible got stronger, and his Doduo learned Pluck, Double Hit, and Agility. During the training, Gible began to glow.
"Gible's evolving!" said Simon. His Gible began to grow; when he stopped glowing, he was bigger, his lower jaw and upper part of his undeside were orange while the lower half was light blue, he has a claw on each end of his arm that also had a fin sticking out of each of his forearms, a shark fin on its back, and an appendage on each side of his head that resembled a jet engine. Sam points her pokedex at Simon's newly evolved Gible.
"Gabite, the Cave Pokemon, and the evolved form of Gible. It habitually digs up and hoards gems in its nest. Its loot is constantly targeted by thieves." said Sam's pokedex.
"Congratulations, little bro." said Sam.
Luna's trained her Pokemon and they got stronger as well. During the training, her Grotle evolved into a Torterra.
"According to this, Lunes; your Torterra learned Earthquake when he evolved." said Sam.
"Rockin'." said Luna.
Moments later, the group was taking a lunch break.
"So, Lincoln; you think you're ready for your gym battle?" asked Clyde.
"Don't know." replied Lincoln.
"You've been training really hard, Lincoln; I'm sure you're more than ready." said Stella.
"Thanks, Stella." replied Lincoln before walking to Stella and kissing her on the lips; she returned the kiss, making Dawn frown at her.
After everyone was finished eating, they returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs and continued walking down 213. As they did, Lincoln sees Paul and his Electabuzz facing what appeared to be a teal-colored Shellos.
"It's Paul." said Lincoln.
"Is he a friend of yours here?" asked Simon.
"Not really, dude; he's a total jerk." said Luna. Sam looks at the Shellos Paul and Electabuzz were facing.
"Why does that Shellos look different from Zoey's?" asked Sam.
"That must be an East Sea Shellos." replied Dawn. "West Sea Shellos' are pink like Zoey's while the ones around here are the color that Shellos is."
"Electabuzz, use Thunder Punch!" said Paul. Electabuzz leaps at Shellos while electricity surrounded its hand and it punches Shellos, dealing super effective damage, and knocking it to the ground. Paul takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Shellos, hitting it, and sucking it in; it wiggled a few times until it clicked.
"Looks like Paul has a new Pokemon." said Clyde. Shellos' pokeball vanishes and gets transported to storage. Paul takes out a pokedex and looks up his Shellos' information.
"Looks like this Shellos has some potential; I'm sure I'll find some use for him." said Paul.
"Hey, Paul." said Lincoln, getting his attention.
"What are you doing here?" asked Paul, bitterly.
"Just on my way to Pastoria City for my next gym battle." replied Lincoln. "You know, I met your brother, Reggie, at Veilstone City."
"Yeah; he told me you battled him and won." said Paul. "So, have you been training lately?"
"Yep; just did to make up for not doing so during the Wallace Cup." replied Lincoln.
"Pathetic; why waste your time watching that garbage?" asked Paul.
"He was just supporting me!" yelled Stella while trying to get at Paul, but was restrained by Luna and Sam.
"Have your Pokemon been getting stronger, Paul?" asked Lincoln.
"Yeah; I want to find someone to do a mock trade for Electabuzz but can't find anyone." said Paul
"Why would you do a mock trade?" asked Clyde.
"I got an Electirizer." said Paul. "If I do a trade while Electabuzz is holding it, he'll evolve into an Electivire."
"My sister, Luna, has a Graveler that has to be traded to have her evolve; maybe she can help you out." said Lincoln.
"Why would I help him?" asked Luna.
"I'm kind of curious about what an Electivire is like." said Lincoln.
"Fine." said Luna.
"But before that, how about a battle to see how much stronger we've gotten?" asked Lincoln.
"I guess, but I doubt I'll even break a sweat." replied Paul.
"We'll see about that." said Lincoln as he glares at his rival.
Everyone was soon standing on a wide-open stretch of beach, with Lincoln and Paul standing across from one another while everyone watched from the side.
"How many Pokemon are we using?" asked Lincoln.
"We'll use three like we did last time." Paul replied.
"Sounds good to me." said Lincoln. He and Paul each take a pokeball off their waists.
"Ursaring, stand by for battle!" said Paul as he throws his pokeball, releasing a large, brown, bearlike Pokemon with a cream-colored ring on its torso.
"What is that?" asked Lincoln as he points his pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Ursaring, the Hibernator Pokemon, and the evolved form of Teddiursa. In its territory, it leaves scratches on trees that bear delicious berries or fruits." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"Bastiodon, go!" said Lincoln as he throws his pokeball, releasing his Bastiodon.
"I see your Shieldon evolved." said Paul.
"Yeah; I trained him real hard." said Lincoln.
"Let's see if it's enough." Paul replied.
"Bastiodon, use Iron Defense!" said Lincoln. His Bastiodon's head becomes coated in a blue aura before his it shines brightly, strengthening his defenses.
"Ursaring, use Brick Break!" shouts Paul. His Ursaring brings up his arm and swings it down onto Bastiodon, dealing super effective damage.
"Bastiodon, use Ancient Power!" said Lincoln. Bastiodon summons up several rocks with fossils in them and launches them at Ursaring, hitting it, and dealing damage; a surge of power rises up from Bastidon, increasing all his stats.
"Ursaring, use Hammer Arm!" said Paul. His Ursaring brings up his arm again and swings it down towards Bastiodon.
"Bastiodon, use Endure!" said Lincoln. His Bastiodon braces himself and takes the attack head-on, managing to hang in there; Ursaring's legs become wobbly.
"Hammer Arm may be strong, but it slows down the Pokemon that used it." said Clyde.
"Bastiodon, use Rock Smash!" said Lincoln. Bastiodon runs at Ursaring and slams it with the side of his head, dealing super effective damage; Ursaring's body becomes limp.
"Rock Smash weakened its defense." said Sam.
"Ursaring, use Brick Break again!" said Paul. His Ursaring brings up his arm again and brings it down onto Bastiodon, dealing super effective damage, and knocking him out.
"Bogus, dude." said Luna.
"Lincoln can still win this." said Stella.
"He lasted longer than I thought he would." said Paul. Lincoln returns his Bastiodon to his pokeball.
"You were great, Bastiodon." said Lincoln.
"Pathetic." said Paul.
"Look who's talking!" said Stella.
"Shut it." Paul replied.
"Don't you dare talk to my girlfriend like that!" shouts Lincoln as he puts his Bastiodon's pokeball back on his waist and pulls another one off. "Go, Dragonair!" Lincoln tosses his Dragonair's pokeball and releases her.
"Where'd you get a Dragonair?!" asked Paul.
"Caught her when she was a Dratini in the Grand Underground." said Lincoln. "Now, Dragonair, use Aqua Tail!" His Dragonair swings her tail while it was coated in water at Ursaring and slams it into its torso, knocking it back.
"Ursaring, use Slash!" said Paul. His Ursaring runs at Dragonair and slashes her with its claws.
"Dragonair, use Slam!" said Lincoln. His Dragonair slams her tail down onto Ursaring's head, driving it into the ground, knocking it out.
"Nice one, brah!" said Lincoln.
"Keep it up, little dude." said Sam.
"That was for Stella." said Lincoln, making Stella blush and smile. Paul returns his Ursaring to its pokeball and puts it back on his waist before pulling another one off.
"Weavile, stand by for battle!" said Paul, throwing a pokeball, and releasing his Weavile. "Weavile, use Ice Shard!" Multiple chunks of ice appeared around Weavile and it fires them at Dragonair, hitting her, and dealing super effective damage.
"Dragonair, use Twister!" said Lincoln. Dragonair waves her tail and creates a tornado from it; the tornado comes towards Weavile and hits it, dealing damage, and making it flinch.
"Twister has a chance of making the Pokemon it hits flinch." said Clyde.
"Now use Slam!" said Lincoln. Dragonair slams her tail onto Weavile, damaging it.
"Weavile, use Metal Claw!" said Paul. Weavile leaps at Dragonair while its claws glowed white and Weavile slashes Dragonair with them, dealing damage; a surge of energy goes through Weavile. "It looks like Weavile's attack strength increased from Metal Claw."
"We won't let that stop us; Dragonair, use Leer!" said Lincoln. Dragonair glares at Weavile while her eyes glowed red, weakening Weavile's defense.
"Weavile, Icy Wind!" said Paul. Weavile releases a beam of wind with sparkling blue snow from its mouth and it hits Dragonair, dealing super effective damage; Dragonair slumps.
"Icy Wind can weaken the speed of the Pokemon it hits." said Sam.
"Dragonair, use Aqua Tail!" said Lincoln. Dragonair leaps at Weavile while water spiraled around her tail and she hits Weavile with it, dealing damage.
"Weavile, use Assurance!" said Paul. Weavile leaps at Dragonair and kicks her, dealing enough damage to knock her out. "Assurance's power doubles if the Pokemon that uses it was damaged before using it."
"Don't give up, Lincoln!" said Stella.
"Keep battling!" said Luna.
"He didn't ask for your support!" yelled Paul.
"They didn't need to!" replied Lincoln; he returns Dragonair to her pokeball. "You were amazing, Dragonair." He puts Dragonair's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Go, Infernape!" He throws Infernape's pokeball and releases him.
"I see your Monferno evolved." said Paul.
"And he's gotten stronger." said Lincoln.
"Prove it." said Paul.
"Fine, you asked for it; Infernape, use Power-Up Punch!" said Lincoln. Infernape leaps at Weavile while an orange aura surrounded his fist and he punches Weavile with it, dealing super effective damage, and knocking Weavile out. "Too bad Weavile's part dark and part ice; both are weak against fighting type attacks." Infernape becomes surrounded by a red-orange aura. "And it looks like Power-Up Punch increased Infernape's attack strength." Paul growls before returning Weavile to its pokeball; he puts it away and pulls out another.
"Electabuzz, stand by for battle!" said Paul, throwing Electabuzz's pokeball and releasing it.
"Infernape, use Mach Punch!" said Lincoln. Infernape leaps at Electabuzz while one of his hands glowed light blue and punches Electabuzz, dealing damage; static surrounds Infernape's body.
"Oh man; Infernape's paralyzed." said Luna.
"It's that Electabuzz's Static ability." said Sam.
"Electabuzz, use Charge!" said Paul. Electabuzz becomes surrounded by sparks of electricity, strengthening its special defense.
"Infernape, use Flame Wheel!" said Lincoln. Infernape lets out a loud yell, expelling the static on him, curing himself of his paralysis.
"But how?!" asked Paul with a shocked look on his face.
"Never underestimate the power of the bond between trainer and Pokemon." said Lincoln. Infernape charges at Electabuzz while a wheel of fire surrounds his body and he rams Electabuzz, dealing damage to it.
"Electabuzz, Discharge!" said Paul. Electabuzz releases multiple bolts of electricity from its body, and they hit Infernape, damaging him; static surrounds his body. Infernape flexes his arms and expels the static; Paul growls in response.
"Infernape, use Leer!" said Lincoln. Infernape glares at Electabuzz and his eyes glowed red, weakening Electabuzz's defense.
"Electabuzz, Thunder Punch!" said Paul. Electabuzz leaps at Infernape while electricity surrounded its hand and it punches Infernape with it, damaging him.
"Infernape, Close Combat!" said Lincoln. Infernape begins punching and kicking Electabuzz, dealing damage, and knocking it back; Infernape slumps. "Downside to using Close Combat is that it weakens the defenses of the Pokemon that used it."
"Electabuzz, Shock Wave!" said Paul. Electabuzz's body becomes surrounded by electricity and it fires a beam of electricity from it, and it hits Infernape, dealing damage to him. Infernape drops to one knee; a fiery aura surrounds his body and the flame on his head grows bigger.
"Infernape's Blaze ability." said Lincoln. "Okay, Infernape, use Flame Wheel!" Infernape charges at Electabuzz while a massive wheel of fire surrounds him.
"Electabuzz, use Discharge!" said Paul. Electabuzz releases multiple bolts of electricity from its body at Infernape. Infernape rams through the bolts of electricity and rams into Electabuzz, creating a massive explosion that causes everyone but Lincoln and Paul to shield themselves with their arms; Luna looks at Lincoln.
'Little bro's not even flinching; this Pokemon gig has definitely made him strong.' Luna thinks to herself. Stella looks at Lincoln with admiration.
'This Pokemon journey has really helped him grow; I love him.' Stella thinks to herself. When the explosion cleared, Infernape and Electabuzz were both on the ground, unconscious.
"Another draw?!" exclaimed Paul.
"Looks like it." replied Lincoln. He and Paul both return their Pokemon to their pokeballs.
"What now?" asked Clyde.
"I guess we should go to a Pokemon Center and get our Pokemon treated before doing the mock trade." said Lincoln.
"Nearest one is in Pastoria City." said Dawn.
"Wanna go there with us, Paul, so you and Luna can do the mock trade?" asked Lincoln.
"I like to travel alone; but I'll meet you all there, I guess." replied Paul. He then walks off towards Pastoria City, leaving the group to themselves.
"What a loner." said Dawn.
"Let's just get to Pastoria City." said Lincoln.
Lincoln has had a rematch with Paul, and it ended in another draw. What else will happen as the group's Sinnoh adventure continues?
