Reid stood in the interrogation room now, pacing.
"Let's pretend you're telling the truth. That means I guessed it, right? The secret? The one I don't want to admit to? Is my child?" He asked more as a statement than question.
Cat laid her head on the table with her arms folded to hold it up. "Is that your guess? You only get one, remember."
Reid shook his head, he whispered, "No. too easy."
Cat responded quickly, "Believe me…getting pregnant with your baby was not easy."
Reid pulled the chair out to sit down again as he spoke, "No. You misunderstand me. It's too easy…emotionally." He folded his hands together, leaning, "Because I can take your child from you. A child I had absolutely no role in creating but a child that I would care for better than you."
Cat sat up straight, "Do you think Natalie would too?" She smiled, nodding to the window.
"Doesn't matter." Reid replied but as Cat began to grin wider, Reid added firmly, "Absolutely."
"That's rude." Cat whispered, pretending to be hurt.
"It's true. You can't be a mother, Cat. I'm not trying to insult you. It's your psychological makeup. You literally do not have the emotional skills to care for another human being."
Natalie swallowed at Reid's words, wishing they weren't true, wishing that Cat had actually cared for her at one point. She wished she could have been her sister but deep down, she knew. She crossed her arms, shut her eyes for a brief moment allowing herself to feel for a brief moment what she had been denying until moments earlier when she had told Reid Cat wasn't her sister; Cat Adams might look identical to her, raised in the same environment, but Cat had always been a psychopath, Natalie never could have stopped it.
Morgan turned to Natalie for a second, "You okay?"
Natalie nodded, both continuing to focus on the scene unfolding between Reid and Cat.
Reid continued, "you would lose interest in your own baby the way a six year old loses interest in a pet hampster. This baby is a means to an end, to keep me here playing a guessing game assuming something I never should have in the first place."
Cat leaned back, she sounded genuinely interested in what Reid was saying, she definitely wasn't bored "And what would that be?"
Reid's eyes shifted to the table between them, "My mother's already dead. She was dead before I walked in here."
"She's not dead." Cat said quickly.
"Yes, she is." Reid stood up and began to walk away.
Cat raised her voice although she wasn't exactly yelling, "No. Because I don't cheat. You cheat."
He turned to face her for a brief moment, "I'm done playing." He continued moving towards the door.
"No. Get back here." Cat demanded.
Reid opened the door. "I'll let you talk to her!" Cat slammed her hand on the table. Reid stared at Natalie and Morgan as Cat said it, the expression on his face indicating he had gotten what he wanted and something they needed.
Morgan picked up the phone as Reid walked back into the lions den.
"Baby girl, get ready to trace a call on Reid's phone."
"Fired up. Plugged in. Ready to go." Garcia replied, no usual banter from her as she couldn't bring herself to do it until Reid was officially out of harm's way and his mother was safe.
Reid had left the door to the interrogation room open, Natalie moved to go back in, feeling protective but Morgan grabbed her arm, not hard but enough to warn her not to do that. He didn't want Cat to hear him say anything to her. Natalie mouthed, I won't and stayed put.
Cat took the phone from his hands, beeps and then a dial tone as she held the phone up to her, speaker on for all to hear.
"You're early." A female voice answered, a female voice the profilers knew was Lindsey Vaughn.
"Yeah, I know." Cat said, dismissively. "We need proof of life."
"Alright." Lindsey said, a few moments passed, and another woman's voice comes through screaming for Spencer. It's his mom. He grabbed the phone asking if she is okay. His mom shakily answers that she doesn't know. Suddenly, one gunshot then two. Reid calls out to her but all he hears is Lindsey saying, gotta go.
The call ends.
As soon as the call hands up, Reid moves to the side of the table, "What the hell was that?"
"I don't know." Cat answers.
Natalie and Morgan enter the room, "Spence." Natalie calls for him quietly.
Reid is so focused on Cat, he doesn't notice or hear the other two agents. "Was that a pre-arranged signal to kill my mother? She said you were early." He slams his hand on the table.
"Tell me the truth." He screams, multiple times.
Cat screams back, "I am! You want to know the truth? Your mother is an azlheimers ridden moron who is getting dumber day by day and if she's dead, it's your fault."
Without thinking and seeing Red, Reid throws the table to the side, he stands Cat up, placing his hands around her neck.
It happens too quickly for Morgan and Natalie to react before he is completely choking her. Cat smiles as he does.
Morgan throws his arms around Reid and begins to pull him back but Reid's grip is quite strong, it takes Morgan a moment, "Reid!" "Reid!" He yells.
"She's pregnant." Natalie chokes out as loudly as she can.
Cat stands on the back wall choking as Morgan and Natalie pull Reid out of the interrogation room. He doesn't look at them, feeling ashamed, he walks off.
