1980, Russia announced that they were now at war With America and all of its allies, Russia's allies were soon to join up with them. Russia declared that it was a war on the poison of "Capitalism", but everybody knew they were just greedy. It didn't take long for Russia to attempt an invasion of Alaska. The world was shocked at how quickly Russia was able to assemble its forces and even more so when they almost took it, they made it all the way to the capital of Alaska, they were finally pushed out of Alaska when Japan entered the war and started to attack from behind. The war is now to the Pacific theater, Russia knew now, if they wanted to strike at America, they need to conquer Japan first. It didn't take long to bring Japan to its knees, they were still recovering from the defeat from World War 2. Japan eventually had to surrender its mainland, even with the help of America's vastly superior carrier fleet. Japan is now nothing but scattered islands now. That was two years ago, the war for Japan still rages on, now the battles are nothing but tiny skirmishes all around the pacific. No side has been able to get any headway... But America has a plan...
Get out of my way!" I yell at the incoming missile, heading straight for me. I jerk the control stick to the left and up, making my plane dodge just in time to dodge the missile, seeking the heat of my jet's engine.
My F-14 goes back into supersonic mode by sweeping its wings back. I blast right by the Mig-29 that tried to shoot me down.
I kept on heading for where I was going. I knew that the Mig-29 was nowhere fast enough to catch up to me.
I kept on listening to the radio that the ground troops were relaying to me. They were still under fire from an unknown Russian attack helicopter. They were pinned down in a bunker that they were raiding, it was supposed to have some blueprints from some of China's tanks that they were trading to Russia.
I quickly turned off the radio when I started to hear my lock-on detection start to hum at me. I jerked my head all different ways trying to find out where the lock on was coming from, it didn't matter. As my warning system started beeping at me rapidly, warning me of incoming destruction if I didn't do something RIGHT NOW!
I quickly jerk my jet straight to the right, dumping flares while doing so. I leveled my jet back out and I saw a missile go straight up under from where I was just at.
"Fucking SAM turrets!" I push my control stick down heading for the top of the trees, dumping even more flares along the way just to make sure.
Once I stopped hearing the Hum of my warning system I finally calmed down.
"I swear, the information headquarters are about brain dead" I muttered. "How did they not know about them?" My co-pilot asked me. "Not a clue," I answer back.
I should be coming up to my target any minute now.
I switched my radio back on to see if the captain of the ground squad was still relaying the location of the helicopter… nothing but static. I quickly turn on my end of the mic. "This is Black Leader, I am about on sight of the location of the target, I need to know where my target is?" Over."
I waited with bated breath… there was no answerback…
"God… DAMMIT! I'm too late!" If I was told about the SAM turret before I left, I would have made it on time.
I could start to see smoke on the horizon.
I wasn't going to let those men die for nothing…
When I was about 10 miles out from the bunker, I brought my plane out of supersonic mode by slowing the engines down, then letting the wings on my F-14 sweep out.
It didn't take me long to spot the helicopter… helicopters now. There was the attack chopper, and two helicopters that I knew had Russian troops in them.
5 miles now…
I quickly turned my targeting system on and locked onto the attack helicopter. The moment the square shrunk on the target, I loosed a sidewinder. The chopper banked and dumped flares.
4 miles
"Bingo" I muttered and launched another one. The chopper was still trying to recover from the banking it did, and the sidewinders blew the back of the helicopter off completely.
2 miles
The general-use helicopters quickly went for evasive maneuvers. For one it was too late. I quickly switched to guns and shredded the frontward helicopter.
I quickly swept my wings back again, speeding my jet back up to gain some distance. I watched the gauge on my plane until it hit Mach 1. Knowing bye now, I'm miles away from where the helicopter was.
I quickly slowed my plane down again and started to turn back around to get the last helicopter.
I started to gain some altitude so the helicopter would never see me.
I switched on my guidance system from lock on, to laser guided air to ground. I already knew where that helicopter was going to land.
I started waiting for the helicopter to arrive, slowly circling the area, locked on to the area where the helicopter would land.
My lock on warning started to hum at me. My eyes grew in realization. The Mig-29 found me.
I almost fucked up big time, I quickly turned my engines to afterburner and went straight down, dumping flares.
"Man, you're getting sloppy, can't believe you didn't see it coming" my co-pilot nagged at me.
"Shut up" I muttered. I never get good co-pilots. I do just about everything. I always scare my co-pilots away with my aggressive approach.
It was going to be a dog fight now…
My radar was showing he was to my left and continuing to go farther away, probably to try another lock on. I quickly pulled my jet up and made it do a steep climb. Afterburners cooking.
I'm going for an altitude advantage! I told my co-pilot. "Head-to-head" he yelled back in shock.
"Can't be a pussy all your life!" I yelled with a smile. This is what I live for, going faster than ever, the g's you pull doing this, the adrenaline! And killing this communist scum!
I started to bring my F-14 into a shallow dive, I already seen a smoke trail heading straight for me! I jerked the plane into a slight corkscrew and started dumping flares. The missile hit one of my flares.
"One left, I mutter to myself" he has already fired 3 missiles at me, I'm almost a hundred percent sure he only has 4.
I could see the Mig now.
4 miles
"The helicopter is about to land!" My co-pilot yelled at me.
I got to hurry, the helicopter could be there any second!
3 miles
The Mig loosed its last missile, I grinned, "got em"
My targeting system locked on to the incoming missile and I fired as fast as I could. Both missiles collided just a couple hundred yards right in front of my jet, I flew right under the explosion and started to fire my main gun, the MiG had no time to react and was torn to shreds. The pilot surely dead.
I quickly tuned my jet around and re-locked on to the bunker, shot my air to ground missile and blew the bunker and all the Russians inside. The helicopter was caught in the blast right as it was landing.
I swept the jet's wings back and started going supersonic.
"Mission success Captain?" The co-pilot asked me. "Shut it" I growled back. Those men died for almost nothing, and it was just because my information was wrong. I was told there was going to be no Sam turrets, and almost no air support for the Russians. They got both of those wrong. And I am willing to bet those troops were told there were no helicopters in the area.
My trip back to the carrier was short, going supersonic all the way back.
I landed my plane without any difficulties and immediately stormed out of the jet, throwing my helmet off, looking for the commanding officer who assigned me this mission. I started my way into the carrier heading straight for his office, ignoring all the people who were congratulating me for the three takedowns today. There praises won't mean anything to me till I hear the information office's excuse for a fuck up today.
I slammed the commanding officer's door open, making him jump up in alarm. He calmed back down and sat when he saw who it was, this isn't the first time I have been here for almost the same exact reason. I walked into his office, closed the door, and sat down in the chair close to his desk in silence... the officer contemplating what he was going to say.
…"Again?" he muttered sadly. I slammed my hands on the desk making him flinch. "You fucking know it happened again!" I yelled pissed. "I don't know what is going on, but our spy planes are doing absolut shit right now, this is the third time this month something like this has happened!" I yelled at the officer.
I wiped the sweat off my face, it was a hot day today in the pacific. "Dammit, Mike... I was almost killed today by both a SAM turret and a Mig, our information said there was none in the area."
Mike looked down upset, "Sorry Dan, I wish I could give you a better excuse, but it was a true, royal fuckup."
I sighed, "Don't tell me that... tell that to the families those men who died were apart off."
We were silent for a while after that.
Mike perked up after a little bit when a thought came to him. "Ohh, hey Dan?"
"Ya..." I muttered back annoyed.
"There were some scientists that wanted to see you, they are down in the dining area waiting for you," Mike told me.
"Ugg, what do they want?" I asked him annoyed at the thought of talking to some nerdy government scientists.
"Not sure, something about needing a new pilot for a new project they have?" Mike said confused.
"Ohh... that's interesting"
