Chapter 1

Coming to Form

Myths. Legends. Fairy tales.

Yes, people love telling all kinds of stories. From wild imaginative ones that can only come from the mind. To the adventures people have gone through involving dangers and mysteries. Some of those stories are interwoven. One small person's part during a grand scale quest led by another. Such as my own role in the exploits of team RWBY.

But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here. Let me start at the beginning.

My name is Empty. I came to this realm a long time ago with my brothers Light and Darkness. But I call him Dark for short. We came here from our home world since we felt we've outgrown it (also our creator was getting tired of us making a mess of things with our experiments). So we set off into a brand new world that we can make our very own.

I was surprised at the world we arrived in. Our home world was overgrown with wild life when we first came into existence but this place looked so barren. "Not much for us to work with huh brothers?" I noted scratching my head.

Light walked a little ahead before kneeling to the ground. "Nonsense Sister. Anything can become a canvas so long as you have the tools to use it." Placing his hand on the ground, Light unleashed a surge of energy that pulsed around us. Soon, grass and vines began to grow. Part of the ground gave way and a surge of water rushed into the newly made groove. I looked on in amazement as trees and flowers started to bloom.

"Wow," I breathed, taking in the sight. "Nice work Light."

Dark just turned his head. "I suppose it's alright," he grumbled.

"And what do you mean by that?" Light asked.

I quickly stepped in front of my brother. "Can we not? Please? We came to this world to make a fresh start, remember?"

"Of course. I apologize Sister. And to you as well Brother. It wasn't my intention to start anything," Dark said. Light gave a nod and suggested that we split up for a little while to explore and see what all we could do. I was a bit nervous. I had never been away from my brothers for long but Dark agreed, thinking time apart will do us some good.

So we went our separate ways. Light continued to grow new life. Filling the area with plants and water before coming up with his own living creatures he called animals. Creatures like dogs and cats and even some that looked like our child forms that he called deer, rams, and bunnies. Though the bunnies didn't have horns like I do. He said that he didn't want the bunnies to grow too large like the Jackolopes at home, so he figured the horns would be a bit much.

Dark didn't seem to like what Light created though and so created things like fire, famine, and drought. Trying to destroy all of Light's work. But Light just grew life again. And I tried my best to make sure Dark didn't hurt any of the animals. Light puts souls into those creatures and unlike our home world, the souls will perish if anything happens to their bodies. It was something I kept in mind while working on my own project.

Not to mention the fact that the two will get into actual fights whenever I'm not around. The destruction left in their wake got on my own nerves so I would try to keep the fighting to a minimum. But those two became such polar opposites it was near impossible to keep the peace.

Then one day Dark decided to make animals of his own. Very dark, destructive, bloodthirsty animals. He called these Grimm. That was when I put my foot down.

"Alright enough is enough! You two keep going on like this, we'll most likely blow up this giant rock we're living on and then who knows what will happen next." I shouted at them. My body shook with despair. "We came here to make a fresh start, but it seems like you're continuing the fight you started back home."

Both of my brothers wrapped their arms around me in a tight embrace. "We're sorry Sister. We don't like to see you upset," Dark said.

"Perhaps we've been working apart for too long. We just need to work on something together. Something we can both be proud of. Our one true masterpiece," Light suggested.

"What do you have in mind Brother?" Dark asked.

"To be perfectly honest. Nothing. But maybe we can help our sister finish her project," Light offered.

"Oh? Have you been working on your own form of creatures?" Dark asked in curious excitement.

"You mean the humans? Well yeah. But it's not ready yet. There's some key elements missing but I haven't figured out what they are yet," I admitted.

"Why don't you show them to us? Maybe we can figure out what they're missing," Dark suggested. I gave it some thought. Light did already give me a hand with them earlier with the reproduction process.

A decision I would later come to regret in a few centuries. I do feel bad about that.

So I saw no harm in asking for his help once again. And Dark would likely have some good ideas as well. I quickly raised my hands and a form similar to ours (but without the horns) appeared. "So I made these forms similar to ours but since they are weaker their bodies have functions that we do not. And they'll only live for at least a good eighty to ninety years, maybe a little longer depending on how their lives will go. There's just something in the brain section of their forms that I need to complete it."

Dark walked over to my creation. "I know. Why not grant them knowledge? " He raised up a hand and the form I made started to glow. "So that they can learn about the world around them."

Light did the same. "And I shall give them choice. With these they can choose the path of creation."

"Or the path of destruction," Dark finished.

"Creation, Destruction, Knowledge, and Choice," I mused. "Yeah. Those sounds great. That's just what the humans need." And with those final elements we unleashed humanity into the world. I'm so excited to see how this turns out.
