Preparations for the Calamity
It was a sunny day in Hyrule. King Rhoam was standing in the castle, looking into the distance.
A royal knight came up to King Rhoam and asked, "Sir Rhoam, you've been standing there for a few minutes, is there something wrong?"
"I fear the return of Calamity Ganon is imminent. If we are to eliminate Calamity Ganon, we need to find the ancient technology of Sheikah, including the Divine Beasts. They are essential to helping us finally seal away Calamity Ganon, just like our ancestors sealed him away all those years ago.", King Rhoam said, sounding very concerned.
"What do you want us to do Sir Rhoam?", asked the knight
"I am ordering excavators to travel across Hyrule, and excavate the land to find ancient Sheikah technology. And bring it back here, so that we can learn how to use it.", said King Rhoam
"Yes sir, we shall do as you wish.", said the royal knight.
The royal knight called each other knight to the courtyard of the castle.
"Alright everyone, Sir Rhoam has ordered us to travel across Hyrule to excavate ancient Sheikah technology. But we can't excavate the technology by ourselves, we need some help."
"You're right. Perhaps some of us should head to Kakariko Village, and ask some of the Sheikah men to help us excavate.", said another knight.
"Sir Rhoam, is it ok for us to go to Kakariko Village, and ask some of the men to help us excavate? Maybe they could fight with us as well.", asked the knight.
"Yes, do as you must.", said King Rhoam
Princess Zelda was looking out her bedroom window, and overheard the conversation.
"Father is going to find ancient Sheikah technology? This could be my chance to start my research on ancient Sheikah technology! Hopefully Father could let me test the ancient technology!" Zelda was fascinated by the ancient Sheikah technology, and she had hoped that she could study it.
Princess Zelda went downstairs to see her father. "Father, I heard you sent the Royal Knights and Guards to find ancient Sheikah technology. May I please do research on it?", asked Zelda.
"You may Zelda, after all, our knights and guards may not know how to work this technology. Plus, they are essential to the battle against Calamity Ganon."
"Thanks Father! I also hope I can unlock my power that I get from the Goddess Hylia! And it could be my chance in which I can finally fulfill my goals!", Zelda said with great enthusiasm.
"I hope so too. However, do not forget about the responsibility to your kingdom and your training. Try to be single-minded in all of this.", said King Rhoam in a very stern tone of voice
"I will father, and I will try to unlock my power.", said Zelda.
The royal knights and the Sheikah traveled across Hyrule to excavate for the Divine Beasts and ancient Sheikah technology.
"Thanks for the help! We didn't think the Sheikah would still want to help the Royal family after what the Royal Family did to the Sheikah.", said one of the knights.
"No problem, we'll be there to help out the Royal Family, even after what happened between us.", said the Sheikah soldier.
The royal family and the Sheikah had some bad blood in the past, which led to some of the Sheikah swearing their allegiance to Ganon and becoming bandits. The Sheikah and the Royal Knights/Guards brought back lots of ancient Sheikah weaponry, and some Guardians.
"Sir Rhoam, we've brought back some of the technology, including this.", said one of the knights. The Royal Knight handed King Rhoam a mysterious looking device that resembles a map and tablet.
"Interesting, it looks like it could be beneficial to us, especially with the Shrines around Hyrule."
"I believe that device is the Sheikah Slate, an ancient device that has a lot of purposes.", said one of the Sheikah soldiers.
"Alright men, start training the Guardians and see how the ancient technology works.", said King Rhoam.
The knights started training the guardians. Everything was going well. Then, one Guardians started malfunctioning, firing lasers at the knights
"Someone help us!"
"Everyone hide!", King Rhoam shouted.
A young knight walked up to the Guardian, who points the laser at the knight and blasts it. The young knight deflected the Guardians laser using a Pot Lid.
"Impressive, that young recruit was able to think so quickly! I think he should be the knight for Zelda!", said King Rhoam. "What is his name?, King Rhoam asked.
"His name is Link. He is the son of a royal knight. His father was that royal knight, named William. He is the one who was able to pull out the Master Sword from its resting place in the Lost Woods. It's presumed that he's related to the Hero of Time because of this.", said one of the knights.
"Okay. Link!" called out King Rhoam.
"I am appointing you as the knight to watch over Zelda wherever she goes".
Link didn't know how to feel about being appointed Zelda's knight. It was a great honor and responsibility, but he felt like it might be a lot of pressure, especially if he failed.
"Thank you sir Rhoam", Link said as he kneeled to honor the king.
"You did great out there making sure to deflect that Guardian's laser. Your father would be proud of you if he were here".
Link looked down at the ground. He had lost his father at a young age and hadn't been the same since it happened. Hearing about his father made him feel sad for a moment.
King Rhoam headed back to the courtyard, and a knight and a Sheikah soldier followed him.
"Sir Rhoam, we tried piloting the Divine Beasts, but their structures proved to be too difficult for any of us in the Royal Hylian Army to handle.", said the knight.
"I agree, even us Sheikah soldiers weren't able to pilot the Divine Beasts."
King Rhoam knew this could be a setback. 'Hmmm, it seems as though we will have to find people who have the strength to pilot the Divine Beasts. We also can't just have the Royal Hylian Army and the Sheikah fight, so we may need help from the most powerful people in all of Hyrule.", said King Rhoam. He called for his daughter. "Zelda!"
"Yes father, what is it?", asked Zelda.
"Our knights, as well as the Sheikah cannot pilot the Divine Beasts, so I am asking you to find the 4 champions who are powerful enough to pilot the Divine Beasts and help us defeat Calamity Ganon.", said King Rhoam.
"I see father, I shall head to each area of Hyrule, looking for the most powerful of them all.", said Zelda.
"Take two knights with you Zelda, just to be safe.", said King Rhoam
"Alright.", said Zelda.
"Zelda, before you go, I'm assigning a knight to watch over you and protect you wherever you go. He is the most powerful swordsman in all of Hyrule, and he wields the blade that seals the darkness.", said King Rhoam"
"Okay, father".
Zelda was a bit concerned, as she felt like she didn't need a knight to watch over her. Plus, she felt like a failure in comparison to Link because of the fact that Link had already reached his potential and destiny, while she was still struggling in unlocking her sealing power. She had been trying ever since she was a young girl to unlock her sealing power. Having Link around only made her feel more like a failure in comparison to him.
Zelda began on her journey to each of the 4 regions. First was Rito Village. Once she arrived, she looked around for someone to help her find the most powerful person in Rito village.
"Excuse me, do you know who is the most powerful person in this village?", asked Zelda.
"Why yes, his name is Revali. He's the most skilled archer, and has a power that gives him the ability to soar higher into the air with a gust of wind. It's called, "Revali's Gale".
"Okay, and where might I find Revali?", asked Zelda.
"You can find him at the Flight Range, which is at the end of Dronoc's Pass in the Hebra Mountains. It's very cold up there, so dress warmly".
"Thanks for the information!", said Zelda.
"You're welcome Princess Zelda!", said the Rito villager.
Zelda and two knights rode up to the Hebra Mountains, where they saw Revali using Revali's Gale to soar high into the air.
Revali had some trouble staying up and falls down, then gets up again.
"Not enough! I must stay in the eye of the whirlwind... must push myself harder...", Revali said to himself.
Revali turned and noticed Zelda, with the two Hylian Knights who made their way to the Flight Range.
"You know your highness... it's rude to eavesdrop.", said Revali.
"My apologies. I went to the village, and I was told I could find you here."
"You have need of me. To defeat Calamity Ganon. To slay the beast once and for all... it will be my great pleasure.", Revali said with enthusiasm.
"Thank you, Revali. If we work together, I'm certain we'll be able to defeat-".
Revali then interrupted Zelda.
"However!"
Revali turned around and used Revali's Gale to soar into the air.
Revali flew through the air, and blasted away targets using bomb arrows, then flies back up and lands on the railing of the bridge, impressing Zelda and the royal knights.
"I know I play the biggest part in helping that, ahem... that little knight with the darkness-sealing sword. Correct?", asked Revali.
"Well, if he loses his confidence after seeing me in action... don't come crying to me.", Revali said. Revali was an arrogant soul, believing himself to be better than Link, to the point he thought he should be the hero because of his flight ability and archery skills.
"Um, okay Revali.", said Zelda. Revali's attitude and arrogance made him the least favorite Champion of Zelda.
Zelda then made her way to Death Mountain, bringing Fireproof elixirs to prevent her from dying of heatstroke. Zelda found the Goron champion Daruk, and they began talking to each other about fighting Calamity Ganon, with two knights following.
"Ah! Count me in tiny princess! I'm the fearless Daruk, after all! And if Hyrule needs my help, I'll gladly lay down my life!", said Daruk.
Zelda liked Daruk because of how nice and gentle he was in comparison to someone like Revali. He was a very understanding fellow, despite his brute strength. Daruk was optimistic about taking down Calamity Ganon, especially considering his power Daruk's protection would prove amazing in battle.
"Thank you, Daruk!", said Zelda.
"Not sure if it's Calamity Ganon's fault or what, but I hear monsters have been attacking people more than ever lately. Times like these... you shouldn't leave the castle without a horde of mighty Gorons to watch your back.", said Daruk.
The way Daruk had said that made her think about the knight her father assigned to her.
"You sound like Father. He's assigning a knight to watch over me wherever I go. I hear the top contender is the most powerful swordsman in all of Hyrule.", said Zelda to Daruk.
"Huh, that could only be...", Daruk paused for a moment. He knew who Zelda was talking about, Link. Daruk and Link were very good friends, and Daruk was like a father figure to Link, especially after what happened to his father when he was only 15.
Daruk then noticed something.
"Hm? What the..."
There were some red and blue Bokoblins near Zelda and Daruk, and it seemed like they were attacking someone, or something.
"They really are all over the place these days. Hm? Is someone being attacked? Cowards! Wait here, Princess!", Daruk said, ready to unleash his strength upon the Bokoblins.
Daruk charged at the Bokoblins, swinging the Boulder Breaker at them, then hitting two Bokoblins with them, and striking it into the ground, as a lot of dust appears and rock debris falls. As the rocks fell and the dust cleared, the Bokoblins ran away.
"Hmph! Spineless little cuccos! No monster stands a chance when fighting me, the almighty Daruk!", Daruk said.
Daruk laughed, as Zelda and the knights walk over to Daruk. Zelda then noticed something near the rocks and walks over to it, finding a Hylian retriever.
"You're safe.", Zelda said to the dog.
The Hylian Retriever ran to Zelda, liced Zelda's face a little, and Zelda hugged it, and chuckled twice. Zelda loved Hylian retrievers as they were her favorite animal in Hyrule.
"It seems our friend here was the one who was being attacked. Precious boy. You saved his life!", said Zelda.
Daruk was frightened by the sight of the retriever, and the retriever ran off.
"Good riddance... and stay safe. I'm sorry you had to say that side o' me. As a kid, dogs always chased me. I still panic when I see one o' those critters."
Zelda found this quite amusing. "I never imagined the Great Daruk would have a weakness.", said Zelda mockingly.
"So tell me... Princess..."
"Yes?", asked Zelda.
"Calamity Ganon isn't, uh... some kind of dog monster, is he?", asked Daruk
Zelda and Daruk then started laughing,
Zelda then made her way to Zora's Domain. She looked around for Lady Mipha, the best swimmer in Zora's Domain.
Lady Mipha was well known for a healing power called Mipha's Grace, which allows her to heal the wounds of anyone injured badly in battle.
Zelda started talking to Lady Mipha, at a waterfall near Ploymus Mountain, right near Zora's Domain.
"So Princess... May I ask who the other chosen Champions are?", asked Mipha.
"Goron vigilance, Daruk. Rito confidence, Revali. Gerudo spirit, Urbosa. And also... the Hylian with the sword that seals the darkness.", said Zelda.
"Oh...", said Mipha softly. Mipha knew well who Zelda was talking about. Link. She had been friends with Link since childhood, since Link used to go to Zora's Domain a lot as a child. Mipha would often heal Link's wounds on account of Link's recklessness getting the best of him, as well as his cockiness. Mipha had feelings for Link that she was too shy with telling him at the time. She felt a little jealous that Zelda might have the same feelings for Link.
At the bottom Zora's Domain, there was a young Prince Sidon.
Zelda and Mipha looked down from the top of the waterfall at Sidon.
"Sidon! Hurry and swim up here!", Mipha called to Sidon.
"Perhaps he is still too young to swim up this big waterfall.", said Zelda.
"One day, Princess... I must leave him... to face my fate with Ruta.", said Mipha.
Mipha jumped down the waterfall and surfed on it, then jumped into the water where Sidon is, then Mipha turns to Sidon.
"Join me. We'll go together so you can get a feel for it! Let's go!"
Mipha and Sidon swam up the waterfall to Zelda, with Sidon at first showing fear, but then enjoyment.
Mipha and Sidon made it to the top of the waterfall, with Zelda seeming very impressed by Mipha's swimming. Mipha then talked to Sidon softly.
"Sweet Sidon. Should fate ever part us... I'm counting on you to protect our beloved home from harm. I believe in you."
"Now, shall we try one more time?", asked Mipha.
Sidon smiled, and continued swimming with Mipha.
Zelda made her way to Gerudo city, and went into the throne room of Lady Urbosa. Urbosa was Zelda's favorite champion, as she was like a mother to her, since her mother had died when she was young. Plus, Urbosa was very strong willed and confident, and saw Zelda's potential which helped her feel slightly better about herself.
"Princess of Hyrule, I accept your proposition without hesitation. Not only are they planning to resurrect Calamity Ganon, it seems the Yiga Clan is also after our treasured heirloom. You have my word. I won't rest until the Calamity falls.", said Urbosa.
"Gerudo chief Urbosa, on behalf of Hyrule and its king, I thank you.", said Zelda.
Later that night outside Gerudo City, Zelda and Urbosa are laughing together.
"I've never seen you so serious, Urbosa!", said Zelda.
"Oh, my. I can't say the same. Ten years ago, you rarely smiled, my little bird.", said Urbosa.
"Urbosa, I feel like you've called me little bird before. I was wondering where you got that name from.", said Zelda.
Two Hylian men walked by Urbosa and Zelda.
"Huh?"
"Halt. And face me.
Urbosa grabbed her scimitar, as the two men turn around.
"Unlike you traitors, I prefer to fight my enemies head on.", Urbosa said with confidence.
The two men looked confused, as Urbosa turns around and holds her sword.
"Do your worst.", said Urbosa.
The two men reveal themselves to be Yiga bandits in disguise, and rush to fight Urbosa. Urbosa fights and defeats the first one. The other Yiga bandit jumped up to attack Urbosa.
Zelda called out to Urbosa.
"Urbosa!"
Urbosa snapped her fingers and used her power known as Urbosa's Fury, electrocuting the Yiga Clan members. Urbosa's Fury is an ability that Urbosa can use to electrocute her enemies with a snap of her fingers.
"Out of respect for our princess, you may keep your lives. Now go!", said Urbosa valiantly.
The Yiga bandits walk off and disappear.
"You asked me why I call you little bird."
"Huh?"
"When you were but a small child... my dear friend called you that, with the sweetest smile that ever graced our land of Hyrule.", said Urbosa.
"You mean Mother...", saif Zelda. Zelda had missed her mother since she had passed away many years ago.
"It was ten long years ago... Your mother had just left this world, yet her little bird still spread her wings and became the beacon of light that Hyrule needed. Sometimes I forget myself... and get lost in the past.", said Urbosa.
The next day, Daruk, Revali, Mipha, Zelda, Urbosa, and Link were all in the throne room of Hyrule Castle.
"Welcome warriors! I'd like to thank you for joining me here today, and for your bravery in accepting this... fateful task. I officially appoint you Hyrule's champions and bestow upon you this sacred garb.", said King Rhoam.
Each of the champions were wearing blue garb made by the Royal Family.
"That blue, is a symbol of the Royal Family, one that has been passed down for countless generations. Those garments you now wear were crafted by my daughter, Zelda. Zelda, I trust you with the task only a daughter of the Royal Family can fulfill. Lead our Champions, Princess. And together, protect our kingdom from the threat of Calamity Ganon.", said King Rhoam.
Each of the champions went outside to castle courtyard.
"I tell ya, those formal shindigs really take it outta me.", said Daruk.
"Hmph! This is the Sheikah Slate, eh?", asked Revali.
"It is. Apparently there are more uses for it than we originally thought. Sadly, we've yet to decipher all of its secrets.", said Zelda.
Revali handed the Sheikah Slate to Mipha, and Urbosa looks at the slate.
"The princess showed me something strange recently. Somehow, it can create true-to-life images", Urbosa said.
"Oh, wow. I would love to see it.", said Mipha.
"Um, Princess... May I ask a special favor you?", Mipha asked Zelda
A Hylian woman held the Sheikah Slate, ready to take a photo of all the Champions together.
"All right! This spot should work nicely. Keep your eyes on the Sheikah Slate, everyone!", said the photographer.
"Daruk, can you crouch down a bit? You're as big as Death Mountain!", said the photographer.
Daruk was shocked by the remark, and he crouched down.
"What's with the glum face, princess? Gimme a big smile! Revali, move your tail closer to the group", said the photographer.
"Ugh, fine!", Revali said with annoyance.
"Mipha, you look so tense. Deep breaths, OK?"
"Ok", Mipha said softly.
"Stay just like that! Here we go! Smiiiiile! Click, snap!, said the photographer.
And just like that, the photo came out clear as day.
