And Then There Was Gwen

A wise man once said "There many ways to tell a story... that's what makes them so interesting. Sometimes you can never predict how they are going to turn out." Let's take a look at one of these stories, a different take of one you're well familiar with.

Gwen was positively elated as she watched the clock tick by. No, she wasn't your typical lazy kid that hated school, quite the opposite in fact. Rather she was excited about her plans this summer. She and her Grandma Verdona were going to go on a country-wide field trip, where she and her Grandma were going to visit all the national monuments and landmarks, and just thinking about made her so excited she began to crumple the notebook she had written her summer to-do list.

"Excited?" Chuckled her best friend Emily chuckled from the seat next to her.

"Oh, you know it!" Gwen giggled, excitement clear in her voice, "It'll be a whole summer of just me, my grandma, all the country's greatest landmarks, no teasing brothers, and best of all? No annoying cousins. She continued, growing a rather creepy smile on the last note.

"I don't know, I think he's kinda cute," Emily replied with a teasing smirk before turning her wheelchair around whistling nonchalantly as she ignored Gwen's absolutely appalled expression. Gwen was about to respond when.

Ring!

"Saved by the bell," Emily smirked before rolling away with a teasing smile, which Gwen returned with an affectionate sigh.

She hurried out of the classroom, weaving her way past the other students before making her way outside where a familiar RV stood, "Grandma!" Gwen cheered as ran over, practically tackling her grandma as she stepped out to greet her.

"Oof! Happy to see you too deary, but your gonna break my back one of these days, I'm not getting any younger." Verdona teased. Verdona was a rather frail-looking lady with neck-length grey hair, wearing a white blouse under a dark blue shawl, along with some jeans and big brown boots.

"Sorry Grandma," Gwen replied as she let go and smiled widely. "Ready to start our summer road trip?"

Verdona's expression took on a more awkward and nervous look as she scratches the back of her head, avoiding any direct eye contact. "We-Well yes. But, well you see we are heaving to make one small change to our plans." Verdona responded as she stepped aside and let Gwen through the door.

"Sure grandma, what is-" She cut herself off as a familiar face glared at her from the nearby table, her snot-nosed doofus of a cousin, Ben. "You!"

"Dweeb." was his only response.

"What is he doing here!" Gwen yelled in indignation.

Well, you see Ben got, well let's just say less than stellar grades, so his parents and I struck up a deal with his teacher, he'd come along with us and do some assignments based on the different places we visit and in return he wouldn't have to do summer school." Verdona explained as she tried to break up the glare off the cousins where starting.

Yeah, riding in the Rustbucket with you isn't exactly how I wanted to spend my summer, but was better than summer school. Ben huffed as he sulked while Gwen begrudgingly sat across from him.

Verdona sighed as she took the driver's seat and started up the RV, "Something tells me it's gonna be a long summer."

"Oh, I'm gonna be sick." Gwen gagged as she and her cousin we served mealworms by their Grandma Verdona, for as much as they loved her, had a very, acquired pallet.

Oh, please they're delicious, you just need to expand your horizons. Verdona chuckled as she poured a bowl of mealworms down her mouth, causing the two cousins to gag in response.

"You know, I think I'm full, I'm gonna go for a walk, smell ya later!" Ben began only to have his ear pinched by Verdona.

"Oh no, you don't I need your help with one of the antennas unless you want to be without tv."

"What, why can't Gwen do it?"

"Cause Gwen is here as a reward, not a punishment. C'mon quicker you help the quicker we'll be done."

Gwen smirked as Ben continued to pull and grunt as he was dragged away. You know I think I'll go for a walk myself. Gwen said just loud enough that Ben would overhear. "Hehe, doofus."

As Gwen walked, she found herself amazed as she basked in the beauty of the nightlight forest. "Well, this summer has been off to a great start she sighed as leaned on a nearby tree. "Still, I guess even Ben can't mess things up that badly, right?" It was at that moment that she noticed a light in the sky, "A shooting star!" She cheered before looking around, not wanting to be caught by her doofus cousin. "I wish that, despite Ben, this will be the summer ever." And as she opened her eyes and looked up once more at the shooting star, it made a sharp turn and began growing concerningly closer, "...Uh Oh" Barley getting her legs to comply she just barely runs out of the way as the "shooting star" crashes where Gwen was just moments ago, causing a giant crater were it landed.

Picking herself up she trepidatiously Gwen, despite her better judgment, cautiously tip-toed over to the crater peering into the crater. There sat a large metal sphere-looking thing that Gwen didn't recognize. "Wh-What is that? Some sort of satellite?" As Gwen questioned the strange object the ground, she was standing on gave in causing her to fall into the hole, landing on her face right next to the sphere. As she pushed herself up the capsule opened as a pink light shined out. After letting her eyes adjust to the bright glare she managed to see in the capsule where she saw some sort of bulky blue watch with some sort of strange faceplate with a pink hourglass symbol. "Is that a watch? What was a watch doing in outer space?" Curiosity taking hold she reaches in.

Then suddenly, the watch leaped out of the capful and latched on to Gwen's arms as she let out a terrified shriek, "Ahh, Get Off Me, Get Off Me!" She yelled as she ran around pulling on the strange watch only for it to not budge an inch. Frustration overtaking her fear she even tried to pop it using a stick, only for the stick to break. In her attempts to pull it off, she unknowingly pressed a button on the side causing the dial to pop up, the hourglass shifting into a diamond, and in that diamond, she could see a small black silhouette. Her frustration now shifting to curiosity she cautiously pressed down on the dial.

Then suddenly she was engulfed in a bright pink light as an odd sensation swept over her body. Eventually, the light died down and Gwen peaked back out at her surroundings. Something felt different, despite her surroundings not seeming to have changed. "What, was that?" Gwen questioned. However as soon as she did her eyes shot open as she heard her own voice, it didn't sound like her normal one, it was much deeper and raspier. "What the?" She grabbed her throat in shock, only when she did, she noticed something alarming, her arm was covered in red rocks and fire, "Ahh, I'm on fire, I'm on fire!" She shrieked as she waved her arms around violently before eventually trying to blow out the fire in desperation, however as she did so she looked down at the rest of her body she noticed it wasn't just her hands, her entire body was engulfed in rocks and fire, yet "I'm on fire but it, doesn't hurt?" She walked back over to the capsule the watch had been in and looked at the reflective surface, there she saw that that light had somehow completely transformed her. She was much taller with a more mature build, her body was covered in rocks with cracks revealing fire while her hands and feet were completely void of rocks, and even her head was ablaze with only her rock face peeking through. And on her chest sat the faceplate of the watch, now looking like some sort of badge with the hourglass now completely white. "What, is thing?"

Little did Gwen know that this miraculous moment would be the beginning of a life-changing adventure that would forever impact not just her world but her entire universe and beyond.

Author's Note

Ah, my favorite childhood show, hope this was a good introductory chapter.

If you are here from my other stuff, yeah I know what your thinking. after such a long break between my two most recent chapters and no update to my BlindSavior fic, this seems out of left field. And honestly, I don't have a good reason for the sudden decision to do this fic I just sort of wanted to try it and see if people would be interested in it.

So that being said if you liked this first chapter make it known and I'll continue on.

And like always feel free to leave comments/reviews cause I always love seeing them.
