Chapter 1 – Starting off with a Bang
A/N: To those readers who clicked on the story, just because it says Reborn. This is not to the anime/manga Katekyō Hitman Reborn! This is an original Pokémon Fan Game made by Amethyst. If you want to watch it and play the game, download it at... (Why can't I put the website here?) Well, search Reborn Evolved if you want to get to the website. Small warning... though the story is Rated M for mature, this story, at specific points, may have themes unsuitable for people. I'll be sure to point it out when that happens. Other than that, enjoy the story!
Edited/Rewritten as of 10/11/2024. Lots of changes from the Initial Chapter. Some minor edits, such as attempts for proper grammar. Okay, let's not be funny... Yeah, there have been many changes since the chapter's original writing back in 2019. This and many more chapters will be rewritten to try placing it on the tracks of Pokémon Reborn E19. Not to mention, I need to get rid of my plot ideas that went nowhere. But there are also changes such as giving characters ages and giving Them home towns.
Location: Train station (Orre Region's Phenac City)
PHUUUUEEE!
"Will call here. We've got your boarding passes." A train conductor yelled as several kids about to start their journey gathered around. All seem to grab their passes, but one girl stays and talks to the man. "Another one for Reborn City, huh?"
"That's right." The girl gives a cheery smile.
"They sure have been pushing that new league." The man says as he scans the boarding pass into the registry before handing it back to the girl. "This is you, right?"
"Yes, it has my name on it, Lucille Luxen." The girl takes the Boarding pass, a card laminated with a photo of the girl, and several factors, such as age 15, female, and destination Reborn City. Lucille often stood out with her black attire: a long-sleeved shirt with the shoulders cut loose, a long black skirt that fell close to her ankle, and contrasting white sneakers.
"Right." The man says. "Arrival at Grandview Station will be in a few hours."
"Thank you." The girl politely bowed. Reaffixing her blonde hair before walking onto the train.
"Just between you, me, and the ol' battered fence post, I hear Reborn City's kind of a dump." The man called out as Lucille stepped on. "Why anyone would wanna go there is beyond me. And yet, you ambitious Trainer-type folk have been heading out in droves."
PHUUUUEEE!
"But off you go now." The man says. "Train's leaving any minute."
Lucille smiled and waved goodbye to the conductor as the doors closed. The glass window reflecting her face, Lucille stared into her own silver eyes. "...Ambitious, is that what I am?"
Not too long after the doors closed, the wheels pushed forward, clacking along the tracks. This was the final train Lucille had to ride to finally end up in the Reborn Region. Having ridden a ship from the Johto Region, passing through the Hoenn Region to the Orre Region's Gateon Port, Lucille eventually found the train station leading her to the Mountainous Region of Reborn.
Glancing at the desert trailing, Lucille hummed at the scenery far from the forests she knew in Johto. How vast the climate was from the oceanic ride through Hoenn. Lucille lamented that her attire may not have been appropriate for the desert climate outside. Nonetheless, Lucille favored that she acquired a window seat to watch the world change with every passing click of the tracks. The inner workings of the train were all but white noise to her.
Unaware of the train around her, someone sat across from Lucille. They were interested in the blonde beauty before them, so they called to her. "Why hello, Lovely. What is thine fair maiden's name?"
"..." Lucille looked up, her bangs covering her right eye, though she could still see the one calling out to her. They were slender, with white hair just slightly lower than his shoulders. Their faces seemed gentle porcelain skin, making Lucille unsure of the gender of the one before her. Their eyes were blue sapphires, which interested Lucille as they held a glimmering calmness, passionate determination, and a stormy disposition.
They were the same age as Lucille, or at least that was how old they seemed. Like Lucille's, their attire seemed unfit for the hot desert climate from out the window. However, this one's clothes appeared far more elegant than Lucille's, from the Fancy black long-sleeved button-down dress shirt to a dark undershirt below it. Long royal blue pants held by an expensive belt, even the red and blue necklace around them seemed fancy.
Unconsciously, Lucille's hand had locked around a pendant necklace. Realizing she had to speak, half in mockery, half in a fluster. "I-I think thine person should speak thine name first."
"Well, alright, fair maiden." They chuckled at Lucille's stutter. "My name is Percival Jeramiah von Decibel Leonardo De Whitehall III. Though you can call me Percy."
"Uh... Nice to meet you, uh, Percy. Uh... My name is Lucille Luxen; people tend to call me Lucy." Lucille's mouth hung; she had never met someone with such a long name. "Are you headed to the Reborn Region as well? Good Sir? Ser?"
"I'm not knighted, you know. Though I am male, if that's what you're wondering." Percival said with a half-depreciated sigh. "But still, yes, I am off to try to face the Reborn Region's Pokemon league. And maybe..."
"Maybe?"
Percival's eyes gleamed, covering a glint of mischievousness behind them, "...And maybe find a fine fiancé as well."
"*Cough*" Lucille choked on her breath, nearly falling out of her seat.
"Twas... but a joke." Percival beheld the sight of panic and was wary of the girl before him. From what Percival could tell, it was an adamant refusal. While the girl had slowly calmed herself and regained her composure, Percival blinked, "You haven't heard of my family name, have you?"
"Was I supposed to?" Lucille's hair shifted as her head tilted in confusion
"I see. This is quite rare." The boy nodded, then cleared his throat. "Ahem. My family are the Whitehalls—a family of powerful and talented Pokémon trainers. I am… The second child of five…"
"Wow, so you must be going to face the League I've been hearing so much about." Lucille curiously reexamined the boy across from her. Her eyes landed on a belt with six spheres on it. The top parts were red, the bottom white, and a black line traced to a singular button in the middle of the device. "So... you already have a team of six?"
"I do. I can't say that all of my team are fully evolved. But they... well, we will be taking on the Reborn League together." The boy's face tightened into a smirk. "Before I was born, my family did try to take on the league, but... Well, here I am to prove my family's strength." While Percival would have gone on to boast, his eyes caught Lucille's single Pokeball at her side. "What about you and the fellow at your side? Are you coming to challenge the league? Gain more Pokémon to befriend?"
"Ah... well, it can hurt to have a few more companions... But I'm not here for the fame or glory." Lucille liked to think about maybe fighting the league, but she had other reasons for coming to Reborn and one more drastic fact.
Pop! Shhhhh...
"Buu?" Out of Lucille's Pokeball and into her lap. Landed a small green creature, a yellow face sticking out from its leafy cradle. Two vine-like arms raised above its head, forming a small bud.
"Deme, meet Percival. Percival, this is Deme, a Budew who hatched not too long ago..." Lucille raised the small Budew in her arms. "She's my first Pokémon. So if a glorious family like yours couldn't face the league, well... I'm guessing you know my chances."
"Oh, come now. Don't sell yourself short. This may be your first journey, but everyone stumbles occasionally, right?" Percival spoke words that tried to raise Lucille's confidence. "Besides, if you're willing to travel with me. I can show you a thing or two about battling."
"Learn a "thing or two"? coming from the guy who randomly proposed to a girl he met barely a few minutes ago?" Lucille chuckled.
"It was a joke, an icebreaker," Percival smirked before his lips curled even higher into a sly smile. "The offer still stands."
Lucille's eyes moved between a glare and sarcasm. "I'll have to catch a Lunala before that happens."
"...Sorry." Percival's smirk faded and looked more serious. "But seriously, please consider the offer to travel the region together. While I had my Pokémon with me, the journey so far... has been rather lonesome."
"I'll..." Lucille trailed off, thinking how dull the journey had been so far. Deme had been a bit of amusement in this dreadfully long trip. She didn't trust the stranger who suddenly proposed to her but for some reason... She couldn't just say no. "I'll think about it.
The two continued to talk more as the train rode along the desert tracks. It was generally small talk, but it amused each other nonetheless. Percival eventually started to talk about himself and his Pokémon team. First, there was Vee, an Eevee, the first Pokémon a child of the Whitehall family obtains. Percival continued to explain that Vee had already evolved into a Leafeon. Lucille wasn't sure but thought she saw a pained smile on Percival's face when he told her about Vee. Percival also had a Kirlia named Artemis, who was gifted to him by Percival's Mother. Artemis was a surprise to Lucille as Artemis was shiny; Lucille had never seen a shiny Pokémon before. From Percival's late grandfather, Percival had received a Beldum, which has since evolved into a Metang named Steel. A Feebas was the first of Percival's Pokémon to evolve into its final stage, Phoebe the Milotic.
After leaving home toward Reborn, Percival also picked up two new Pokémon. Passing through the Kalos Region, Percival had picked up a white-petaled Flabebe, who was now named Aceae. His most recent, however, came from a revival of an ancient Amber that Percival carried with him, regenerated to its natural form... Percival now had an Aerodactyl at his disposal, aptly named Aeros.
As time passed, the conversations died as the sky turned a crimson orange; the night would soon arrive. Exhaustion seeped into the passengers' bones, almost ending the long journey. Percival himself had nodded off, leaning his head against the window, though Lucille was not tired yet.
Her head rested on her hand, staring off into the changing desert. Occasionally readjusting the bangs that covered her right eye, one point lifting high enough, Lucille caught the reflection of a faint scar above her eye. A long scar reached the top of her head, but most of it was covered by her hair. Only a slight bit of the scar could be seen, but Lucille's bangs usually obscured it. Lucille often felt discomfort when staring at it. For one, she never remembered getting it; for another, she always felt scared and sad when she looked at it.
"..." Fed up with the discomfort, Lucille readjusted her bangs again. Trying to focus on anything but the scar, Lucille reminisced about why she wanted to go to Reborn in the first place, or rather, how she first heard of the region. It all came about half a year ago when her mother finally told Lucille that Johto wasn't her birth region but the Reborn Region. It was mentioned to Lucille that they left mainly because of Reborn's Economic Decline; there were other reasons, but Lucille didn't bug her about them. Throughout the conversation, Lucille felt a throb across her scar... sometimes even thinking about it hurts. Initially against it, Lucille's mother finally gave in to Lucille's weeks of pestering, permitting Lucille to travel the world and make her way to the Reborn Region.
Lucille tried her best to just focus on the landscape. The desert became more rocky as they moved. Lucille wondered if that meant they were close to the city, but her eyes caught a white Pokémon atop a rock in her moment of wonder. For a split second, their eyes met. The red eyes of the Pokémon flashed blue.
KABOOM!
Lucille jolted, no longer in her seat on a train. Darkness enveloped her, the screeching sound of metal scraping and tearing against itself. Cries of pain and anguish sounded all around her. Fire and smoke raged around her, its hazy black smoke obscuring her vision. Lucille recognized it as the train cart in a slight flash of light.
"(The Train crashed?! When?! How?!)" Lucille shouted aghast. "(Where's Percival?!)"
"...y!" something called in the distance.
"(Hello?! Percival?)" Lucille shouted, but no sound came out.
"...y! Are you okay?" The voice repeated; Lucille's eyes cleared, seeing a woman with white hair and purple eyes. She wore a black scarf, a blank and white shirt, and purple pants. The woman looked at Lucille with concern. "You looked like you were having a nightmare. Are you alright?"
"H-huh? A-a nightmare?" Lucille wondered. When did she fall asleep? Lucille quickly accepted it as a nightmare and looked at the woman who had woken her up. "Um... Who are you?"
"Oh, my name's Ame. I'm the Manager of the Reborn League." The white-haired woman smiled and pointed to the Boy across from her. Percival was now awake. "He has already signed up for the league. But I don't think I have your information, and it would be great if you did sign up, though! We're finally getting things off the ground again. Not too long ago, the whole region was almost completely abandoned… even by the Pokémon."
"Really?" Percival looked concerned. He had little information on the standings of Reborn, only that someone from his family tried to challenge it.
"I didn't know it was that bad..." Lucille muttered in a barely audible voice.
"...Uh, but!" Ame backpedaled, trying to dismiss the awkwardness that her words brought. "Don't let that worry you! It might not be an ideal place, but our gym leaders are nothing like you've ever seen before, and I think you'll find Reborn to be a Region like no other, too!"
"Well... it's not like my reason for coming here has changed." Percival shrugged with a smirk on his face. "I've come here to challenge the Reborn League; it shouldn't matter if it is somewhat rough for me."
"..." Lucille fell silent. It's not like she came here to become strong. But another question was biting her mind. "Wait, why are you here if you're the league manager? Shouldn't you be in Reborn City?"
"Oh, I'm coming back from a business trip. Since the train ride felt long, I considered introducing myself to some of the registries." Ame smiled, holding a clipboard. "it's always good to get a head start on everyone's registration. That also includes producing Trainer's licenses for any trainer entering the region. So, could I please see your boarding pass?"
"Uh, Alright." Lucille nodded, feeling like it was understood she didn't have much interest in the league.
"Okay, so we have Lucille Luxen and Percival... Whitehall." Ame omitted saying Percival's long name, "I've got you down now. We should be arriving at Grandview Station soon. So after we disembark, I'll gather everyone, then follow me to the Grand Hall." Ame Recited a list of what would happen at the Grandhall, including access to the Starter room.
"Starter from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and Alola? That's a lot to choose from." Lucille blinked, hearing the numerous starters.
"Well... I've pretty much had my team set." Percival sheepishly said, pointing to the six Pokeballs on his belt.
"It's a complimentary event celebrating the league's re-opening." Ame smiled, "While not manda-" She suddenly cut herself off, looking directly at Lucille rather behind her.
"Um..." Percival felt a sense of discomfort as he looked at a shadowy figure behind Lucille.
"Hm..." Lucille, confused, looked behind her, though the figure had disappeared as swiftly as they arrived. A slight scent of smoke was caught in Lucille's nose, sending shivers down her spine as she recalled the nightmare from not too long ago.
Ame quickly turned her head towards the train cart's window. "Something's not right. Shouldn't we be decelerating by now? Oh no—move!" Ame yelled as she grabbed Percival and Lucille by their hands, pulling them through the Train's Window.
Not having any time to regain composure from being thrown from the train. A deafening explosion was heard.
KAAAAABOOOOOOOOMMM!
