Escape from the law

[ACMI2: Fake]

Okay, with Uiharu they'd be able to chase a new line of inquiry, but that required getting to safety first.

Misaka helped lift Mitsuari to her feet but she had been hurt by the two bombings. Her wrist was clearly broken from when they'd gone off in her hands and there were gashes along her body from the fragments the explosions had thrown out.

She had passed out from the pain, so her Esper ability wouldn't be helpful in the escape.

So what did they have? Two electromasters, except no they didn't because there was an AIM jammer active.

GV could still tap his skills but they were still massively outgunned.

Priority one was to destroy the jammer. Now that GV was looking he could see a turret on one of Anti-skill's vehicles that was likely outputting the jamming signal. None of his skills could reach that far. Well…

"Do you have any idea GV?" Misaka asked as the other electromaster studied the emitter.

It was just at ground level, he could leap off and if he was able to blast it with a skill on his way down, he could catch himself with magnetism.

Misaka paused as she parsed the same information. Then she shook her head "If you didn't destroy it, you'd die from the impact. Let's find another way."

GV acknowledged that with a grunt. Anti-skill were already rushing inside the building and it couldn't be more than a minute or two until they reached the roof.

They were trapped with someone injured so whatever method they used would need to be slow enough not to hurt her, yet fast and skillful enough to get past Anti-skill. Their entire job was fighting to protect academy city from threats like rogue Espers.

It was Misaka that found the way out.

"The next building along…" Misaka mused, "It's not that far."

Indeed, leaping across would be tricky but possible. That of course required them to find some way to haul Mitsuari across with them though. Otherwise she'd be left behind.

Of course Anti-skill wasn't likely to hurt her, but she could be locked up and GV didn't want to have to break her out of prison- that would just put an actual target on their back.

Even without their powers, GV and Misaka would be able to make it with a long jump, but not while carrying extra weight.

There was a way though, even if it was tiring.

Misaka crossed first as GV took a few calming breaths. He focused on what he was about to do. He'd never really used this skill much. Much less for anything like this.

Even so, he sensed that it should work. As long as he could hold it back properly so as to not hurt Mitsuari.

Raising his hand, GV called out the words into the air.

"Bolts of rebellion! A thunderous voice in his heart! Speaks of one true law!"

Without the active electrokinesis he was effectively doing these calculations blind, but it still just clicked.

Skills weren't just Esper powers, the fundamental truth that had helped so many times before. It was due to the fact that skills could be used under a Jammer. GV had understood this for a while.

Skills were an expression of the Septimal wave on a different level. Or maybe of a different Grade? The Septimal wave wasn't just psionic, it was the powers of saints and mystics.

"Voltaic Chains!"

A power so much different than Esper powers in some ways and yet still…

GV's chains were restrained by his will as they whipped towards Mitsuari. They bound her and carried her across to the next rooftop. GV panted as he let the skill dissolve before electricity would rush through the lines. The chains vanished in a blue flash as Misaka leaned down to pick Mitsuari up.

"Get her to safety." GV called, turning towards the stairs down to the lower level from where he could hear footsteps "I'll get out on my own and distract them on the way."

Misaka looked like she was going to object but she sighed "I'm holding you to that. You better get through this."

GV smiled. He was out of the reserve of strength he used on skills. He barely had enough strength to Prevade, and doing that repeatedly under a jammer was likely to hurt him like it had back at the prison.

Even so-

As Anti-skill's masked soldiers burst onto the roof, GV had traced his path.

He dashed towards them as one of them yelled out "Stand down and surrender!"

GV didn't and as they moved to restrain him, he grit his teeth and Prevaded. His body broke down into a being of electricity. His mind fuzzed.

Logically, there was no way to think while in electrical form. But GV ignored that reason just as he always did and moved like he had when that Church assassin had attacked Academy City. He moved as lightning itself.

Past Anti-skill, he hit the metal banister of the stairs and ran down to the bottom level. In a single flash before becoming solid again on the other side.

He instantly vomited up blood. He'd lost something in the travel. He wasn't sure what it was, but he'd likely need medical care as badly as Mitsuari did.

Anti-skill was still present down here, and the team from above was rushing down after him too.

One more push. His eyes darted around to find what he was looking for- the manual fire alarm. He slammed his fist into it and the glass and a scream could be heard from the system. Annoyingly, the sprinkler system didn't start. That had been what he was hoping for.

Oh well. He could still make this work. The alarm hadn't done much to slow Anti-skill and they were nearly on top of him now.

GV charged forward towards the Anti-skill troopers. They were ready for him, covering both low and high, left and right. They were trained to catch unruly children after all. Even so-

GV Prevaded straight through them, running along the metal in what they were wearing instead of competing with their nervous system. On the other side he re-emerged and charged on.

If he could just shut down the jammer!

He was outside and the reserve of Anti-skill was coming at him now. He only had eyes for the jammer though. Leaping onto the truck carrying it, he raised his hand.

"Dragonsphere!"

The orb of lightning was slammed into the jammer, breaking its hold. GV smiled and then dashed away on the repulsion he created between his boots and the ground.

He had to get to the hospital too after all.

End of chapter.

Hmm… Everything I'm writing this week feels a bit lower quality than normal. I have no idea if its just me imagining it though.
