Episode Six
(In the courtyard of Det-Sin, everyone is gathered. All the monks and warriors who are preparing to leave, along with Travers and the time travellers.)
TRAVERS: Next thing the pyramid opens up, and this light begins to come out. Like some kind of mist, or snow or something– I don't know! But thick as anything, and glowing. I didn't dare touch it. Just got out of there as fast as I could.
PRINCESS: It's the Intelligence. It's finally gained physical form.
DOCTOR: And now it will consume everything on this planet.
JAMIE: Well, how do we stop it, Doctor?
DOCTOR: I don't know, Jamie, not yet at any rate.
JAMIE: But you said you know where this signal is coming from?
DOCTOR: Yes, the Sanctum. Problem is, I didn't see any such device when we were in there earlier.
THOMNI: You entered the Holy Sanctum?
PRINCESS: Doctor, Khrisong.
DOCTOR: Khrisong?
VICTORIA: He's just gone into the Sanctum.
PRINCESS: After Songsten!
DOCTOR: Then he's in danger. We must warn him.
(The time travellers, Thomni and Travers race towards the Holy Sanctum.)
(The time travellers, Thomni and Travers burst into the Holy Sanctum. But Khrisong is already dead. Sprawled out on the floor with a wound to his back. Over him stands Songsten, a short sword in his hand.)
DOCTOR: Khrisong! What has happened?
JAMIE: Khrisong.
TRAVERS: We're too late.
SONGSTEN: What have you done to Khrisong?
TRAVERS: What have we done? Well, that's a bit cool, I must say.
THOMNI: You have killed him.
SONGSTEN: I?
(Songsten looks at the weapon in his hand, the tip painted red. The Princess slowly approaches this confused abbot.)
PRINCESS: It's all right, Abbot. We can explain. Just give me the sword…
VOICE: (From nowhere) Songsten, kill them!
DOCTOR: Princess, get back!
(The Princess quickly grabs Songsten's hand which is holding the weapon, as the two fight for control and Songsten tries to stab her.)
JAMIE: Get off her!
VICTORIA: Jamie!
(Jamie, Travers and Thomni quickly run to aid the Princess, each grabbing hold of Songsten and restraining him.)
PRINCESS: Songsten, this isn't you! Fight it!
TRAVERS: He's gone mad!
JAMIE: Just get the sword away from him!
(Finally, the Princess and Jamie manages to pry the sword from Songsten. Now armless, he stops resisting, as Travers and Thomni hold him by his arms.)
PRINCESS: We've got to get him out of here.
(The Princess leads Jamie, Travers, Thomni and Songsten out of the Sanctum. Victoria lingers for a moment, as the Doctor remains beside a dying Khrisong.)
VICTORIA: Doctor?
DOCTOR: Go with the others. I'll be there in a moment.
(Victoria sadly leaves the Sanctum to join the others.)
(Back in the courtyard, the Princess, Jamie, Travers, Thomni and Songsten return, with all the monks and warriors turning towards them. Jamie still holds the sword from before, and Travers and Thomni hold Songsten between them.)
THOMNI: My brothers. My brothers, Khrisong is dead.
SAPAN: Dead?
RALPACHAN: By whose hand?
THOMNI: By the hand of our Abbot, Songsten.
SAPAN: This cannot be.
TRAVERS: Aye, it's true enough.
SAPAN: No. What reason would he have to do such a vile thing?
PRINCESS: It wasn't his fault. He was put into a trance by your master, and used like all of us have been.
SAPAN: Songsten, is this true?
(Suddenly, Ralpachan cries out, charging towards Songsten with his bow staff, ready to strike. Songsten responds by trying to lunge out, but Travers and Thomni hold him back.)
RALPACHAN: Murderer!
PRINCESS: No, don't!
(Jamie jumps forward to meet Ralpachan, using the sword to block his blow.)
JAMIE: Keep back!
RALPACHAN: Do not interfere, stranger.
THOMNI: No, leave him alone, there's been enough killing!
(Victoria comes running into the courtyard.)
VICTORIA: Jamie, no!
(With Travers able to hold Songsten on his own, Thomni steps forward to help Jamie.)
THOMNI: Wait! Wait, my brothers. This is no time for rashness.
DOCTOR: He is quite right!
(The Doctor enters the courtyard.)
DOCTOR: He is quite right. You listen to him.
(Ralpachan pulls back, but continues to grip his weapon tightly.)
RALPACHAN: Well?
SONGSTEN: (Muttering) Kill them. Kill them. Kill them.
THOMNI: Look, is this our Abbot who loves peace? Surely you can see he was made to kill Khrisong. He is a helpless puppet.
TRAVERS: But I saw him on the mountain. He was leading the Yeti.
PRINCESS: But he was being controlled even then, Travers.
DOCTOR: Thomni is right. Songsten is merely a puppet.
SAPAN: Who has done this to him?
RALPACHAN: (Pointing to Doctor) Is it you?
THOMNI: No. I tell you I saw Songsten change. He was put in a trance by the master.
SAPAN: Have a care what you say.
DOCTOR: Now listen to me, all of you! Your Abbot is not responsible. But neither is Padmasambhava. He too is controlled. Now do as you'd planned. Leave the monastery. There is great evil here.
(Travers abandons Songsten to approach the Doctor, so Jamie takes up holding him.)
TRAVERS: No, Doctor, you're wrong. The evil is on the mountains. It's that hideous thing in the cave.
DOCTOR: In part, yes, you're right. But the source of what's going on up there is coming from down here.
SAPAN: Wherever it may be, what can we do to overcome such a force…? My brothers…let us obey the Doctor.
(Murmurs pass between the monks and warriors as they react to this decision.)
THOMNI: What of you, Doctor?
DOCTOR: Oh, we will stay here. Won't we, Princess?
PRINCESS: Yes.
JAMIE: Aye, me too.
DOCTOR: Thomni, will you help us? It will be dangerous.
THOMNI: You can rid us of this evil?
DOCTOR: Yes, I think we can.
PRINCESS: And if we succeed, the monks will be able to return.
THOMNI: Then of course I will help.
VICTORIA: Princess, you're not going to send me away with the monks, are you?
PRINCESS: Of course not. I like having you close by.
DOCTOR: However, should you want to go–
VICTORIA: I shall stay with you.
DOCTOR: Yes, I rather thought you'd say that.
(The Princess smiles proudly at Victoria, who is also happy with her decision. Then suddenly, Songsten falls limp against Jamie.)
JAMIE: Hey, Doctor. Songsten, he's unconscious.
(Thomni runs over to assist Jamie in holding Songsten up.)
RALPACHAN: Sapan, tend our Abbot.
DOCTOR: No. Wait. There are things I have to find out, and only Songsten has the answers. Now, perhaps…
PRINCESS: Do you think the Intelligence has released its hold?
DOCTOR: It's hard to say… But we need to know what he knows. On the other hand, this might be a trap by the Intelligence…
PRINCESS: I'll do it, Doctor.
DOCTOR: But if it gets inside your mind.
PRINCESS: We'll just have to risk it. Jamie, bring him over here, sit him down.
(Jamie and Thomni bring Songsten before the destroyed Buddha statue, sitting him down on its platform. Once he is sat, the Princess steps forward, placing her hands on the side of Songsten's head. She closes her eyes, and concentrates.)
PRINCESS: It's all right, Songsten. I mean you no harm. I understand, having yet another mind impose itself on you is frightening, but I only want to help you. To rid you of this evil force that has taken over your mind, and that of Padmasambhava. Let me help you. I can keep the forces acting on your mind at bay. Let you speak freely. I can only do so for so long though, so please, answer the Doctor's questions and don't waste time. Afterwards, the monks will take you from Det-Sen. The further away you are from this place, the further away you are from the control of this entity. And with time, it's control will fade. But first, you must help us. All right, Doctor.
DOCTOR: Songsten, this Intelligence, is it confined to the cave?
SONGSTEN: No.
DOCTOR: No?
SONGSTEN: It has broken its promise. Now it demands the entire planet.
DOCTOR: I see. And these Yeti?
SONGSTEN: Servants of Intelligence.
DOCTOR: Yes, but the control units, they were made somehow, somewhere?
SONGSTEN: The master laboured for nearly two hundred years. With the help of the Intelligence, he built the creatures and the other wonderful machines.
DOCTOR: These small Yeti models. Their movements must be mirrored by the real robots?
SONGSTEN: True.
DOCTOR: But there must be a control– A machine that gives out the orders. Now, where is that control?
SONGSTEN: The sanctum.
DOCTOR: But I have seen the sanctum.
SONGSTEN: Throne. Behind the throne there lies a hidden room.
DOCTOR: How do I get into it? Songsten, how do I get into it?
VOICE: (Telepathically) Enough!
(The Princess cringes in pain, and Songsten falls silent.)
DOCTOR: Songsten? (Looks to the Princess, sees her in pain) Princess? What's happening?
PRINCESS: (Strained) It's…It's the Intelligence…
VOICE: Your mind is above ordinary, but what are you trying to keep from me?
DOCTOR: Princess, stop. Stop right now!
VOICE: I think not. You've opened up your mind, and now I shall enter. Just as I did with Padmasambhava.
PRINCESS: No… It's…It's trying…to get inside…my head… Doctor…help…
VOICE: Yes. I am beginning to see…
DOCTOR: I'm sorry about this.
(The Doctor hits the Princess on the back of the head with a karate chop. The Princess collapses to the ground, top hat rolling off as she lands on the ground. At the same time, Songsten's head drops, as he too falls unconscious.)
VICTORIA: Doctor!
JAMIE: What'd you do that for?!
DOCTOR: It was the Intelligence. It was trying to get into the Princess' mind through Songsten. I had to sever the connection.
VICTORIA: Couldn't you have been more gently though?
DOCTOR: There wasn't the time, and I couldn't risk it learning too much about the Princess.
VICTORIA: What do you mean, Doctor?
DOCTOR: Doesn't matter. Just help me get her comfy.
(A short while later, the Princess awakens, rubbing the back of her head. She is sat where the Buddha statue once stood, the Doctor sat next to her.)
PRINCESS: Oh.
DOCTOR: How are you feeling?
PRINCESS: Head's sore.
DOCTOR: Because of the Intelligence?
PRINCESS: No, because you hit me on the head, mister.
(The Doctor holds out the Princess' top hat.)
DOCTOR: Forgive me?
(The Princess accepts her top hat, returning it to her head.)
PRINCESS: Yes. And thank you. I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't intervened when you did.
DOCTOR: How far inside your mind did it get?
PRINCESS: I don't know. But it saw something, it said so. But it could have been anything from a premonition to a glimpse of the Tardis, our home or even into who I am. I just don't know.
DOCTOR: But it's not there anymore?
PRINCESS: No, it's just around us, like before. Though it feels strongest up above us. I'm guessing that's where the cave is that Jamie and Victoria found.
DOCTOR: Yes. It's growing from out of there. But whatever's in that room Songsten mentioned, that's what's anchoring the Intelligence.
PRINCESS: You think?
DOCTOR: It has to be. It got a hold of Padmasambhava because he projected his consciousness into deep space. But even then, it didn't have complete control, not until very recently. Most likely it influenced Padmasambhava, convinced him to build a machine that helped it bond to him, gain a greater control without him realising.
PRINCESS: So that's why it's been keeping Padmasambhava alive. Without him, it has no way to interact with this world.
DOCTOR: Yes, but what's coming out of the cave is the Intelligence's physical form.
PRINCESS: And you think that's manifesting because of this machine as well? So, stop it and the Intelligence has nothing to anchor to, not even Padmasambhava. It'll cease to exist.
DOCTOR: That's my hope anyway.
PRINCESS: But that will kill Padmasambhava, won't it? Without the Intelligence's will, he won't be able to survive.
DOCTOR: He's not really alive now, remember. He's just a puppet for the Intelligence. You said it yourself, we can only imagine the agony he's in.
(Sapan approaches the two time travellers who look up at him.)
SAPAN: We are ready to depart, Doctor.
DOCTOR: Good.
(The Doctor and Princess stand up.)
DOCTOR: Take care of Songsten for us.
SAPAN: I will. He has suffered much.
PRINCESS: It will get easier with time, and distance.
(Sapan bows, before walking off. As he does so, Jamie, Victoria and Thomni come over to join them.)
JAMIE: What's the plan then, Doctor.
DOCTOR: We'll wait until the monks have left, then we must get into that control room.
JAMIE: How do we get past Padma-thingy?
PRINCESS: Padmasambhava, Jamie.
JAMIE: Aye, him.
DOCTOR: Well, that'll be up to me and the Princess. But remember, as soon as we're in the sanctum, whatever happens, Thomni and you must smash the controls.
VICTORIA: What do you mean, whatever happens?
DOCTOR: Well, the truth is we don't know entirely what this Intelligence is capable of. Anything could happen.
PRINCESS: It's already tried to get into our minds, to hypnotise us. It will most likely try to do so again. The Doctor and I will try to hold its attention, but there's every chance we'll fall under its control.
VICTORIA: Well, how can we stop it?
DOCTOR: Focus on something. A song, a mantra, a memory. Keep it at the forefront of your mind, say it aloud if you have to.
THOMNI: Like the Jewel of the Lotus prayer?
DOCTOR: Yes, exactly.
VICTORIA: What about me?
PRINCESS: Well, it needs to be something strong, something you believe in.
DOCTOR: It also helps if its easily repeatable.
PRINCESS: Something like, 'This too shall pass.'
VICTORIA: What does that mean?
DOCTOR: That nothing is eternal. That whatever's happening, good or bad, must eventually end.
VICTORIA: This too shall pass. This too shall pass.
PRINCESS: Yes, like that. But make sure you believe it. Otherwise, it won't work.
DOCTOR: Where's Travers got to? Has anyone seen him?
JAMIE: Can't say that I have. Hey, you don't think he's deserted us, do you?
DOCTOR: No, I don't think he's done that. But I'd like to know what he's up to.
(Sapan returns.)
SAPAN: Some of our warriors wish to stay and aid you in your battle.
DOCTOR: That's most kind, Sapan, but Thomni is all we need.
SAPAN: Why will you not accept the aid of our warrior brothers?
PRINCESS: Because they are needed to guard all of you, Sapan.
THOMNI: Besides brave hearts will not suffice for this battle.
SAPAN: Protect them, Thomni. We shall pray for you.
DOCTOR: Thank you. Don't worry, everything will be all right.
PRINCESS: When it's all over we'll signal you to come back.
DOCTOR: (Muttering) Hopefully.
(Sapan then leads the monks and warriors out of the monastery gates, the monks chanting lowly as they march out to the beat of drums. Behind them, they close the gates over, leaving only the time travellers and Thomni behind in the courtyard.)
DOCTOR: Now, the Princess and I shall enter the Sanctum first and deal with Padmasambhava. And, as soon as it's safe, make for the wall behind the throne. The entrance to the control room is somewhere there.
JAMIE: Well, what are we looking for?
DOCTOR: I don't know, Jamie, you'll just have to look, and quickly. Once you do, destroy whatever machine you find inside.
THOMNI: But when we have destroyed the machine, what'll happen?
DOCTOR: I haven't the faintest idea.
JAMIE: What?!
PRINCESS: It's the only chance we have, Jamie. It's either this, or we let the Intelligence consume the planet.
JAMIE: Aye, but we might all be blown to smithereens.
PRINCESS: Well, hopefully not.
VICTORIA: What am I supposed to do?
DOCTOR: Well, it's just possible that one of us might need help, so you be ready to leap into action, all right?
VICTORIA: Very well.
DOCTOR: Good. Are we ready? Come on.
(The Doctor leads the Princess, Victoria, Thomni and Jamie towards the Holy Sanctum.)
(The Doctor is trying to open the doors to the Holy Sanctum, but they refuse to budge. Jamie and Thomni try to help him, but the doors remained sealed. The Princess and Victoria stand behind them.)
VOICE: (From nowhere, hissing) Why are you here?
(At the sound of the voice, everyone jumps back away from the doors.)
VOICE: Why did you not heed my warning? You are stubborn, Doctor, Princess.
DOCTOR: Who are you?
VOICE: You know well it is I, the master, Padmasambhava, who speaks.
DOCTOR: Oh no, it isn't.
PRINCESS: We know Padmasambhava, he's our friend. You're just using his voice. Let him go!
(The voice chuckles at this in amusement.)
DOCTOR: Where have you come from?
VOICE: Such a brain as yours is too small to grasp even an understanding of where it is I come from.
DOCTOR: Too small?
VOICE: I have much power. And soon I will have much more.
PRINCESS: More?
(Suddenly the sword that Jamie is holding is take from his hand by an invisible force. The blade swirls around through the air, posed to cut the Doctor's throat.)
JAMIE: Doctor!
(But rather than harm the Doctor, the sword then flies into the wall, embedding itself.)
DOCTOR: Simple levitation. A childish trick! Now stop playing games and open these doors. Or are you afraid to meet us face to face?
VOICE: I sense it is you who are afraid.
PRINCESS: We could say the same thing to you.
VOICE: The two of you are rash.
(The doors to the Sanctum open. Inside, beyond the thin drapes, Padmasambhava is sat up right in his chair, with a nasty cracked grin on his worn and thin-skinned face. Despite how damaged his body appears, his eyes burn with a determined and dominant soul – the Intelligence.)
DOCTOR: Now, anything can happen. Just trust me, and above all, don't panic.
(The Doctor then walks into the Sanctum. The Princess follows. The doors then shut behind them, cutting off their friends.)
PRINCESS: Doctor?
DOCTOR: It's all right, Princess.
VOICE: Yes, Princess, do come in.
DOCTOR: You leave her alone!
(Suddenly the Doctor drops straight to the floor, gripping his head in horrible pain as he screams out in agony.)
PRINCESS: Doctor!
(But as the Princess goes to help him, she too succumbs to the powers of the Intelligence and collapses to the floor. Her top hat even rolls off, but the Princess is in too much pain to do anything about it, as she screams just like the Doctor.)
DOCTOR: (Strained) Focus…Princess…
(The Doctor and Princess grit their teeth, concentrating as they try to mentally fight back against the mind of the Intelligence, which is pressing down on them. Together, the two begin to crawl towards where Padmasambhava sits, with his table of Yeti models between them. But before they can get anywhere near him, Padmasambhava rises his arms and lifts himself up into the air. He begins to float above them, as a wind howls throughout the room. The Doctor and Princess try to move but are unable to. The combination of the wind and mental battle proving too much for them.)
PRINCESS: (Strained) You're not…the only…
(The Princess tries reaching out with one hand, but is unable to.)
DOCTOR: Princess…no…! Not…yet… Jamie…now…!
(Jamie, Thomni and Victoria rush into the room.)
JAMIE: Come on, Thomni!
(But they barely make it a few steps inside before they are stopped. Even more than that, all three of them are being slowly pushed out by an invisible force. Padmasambhava laughs cruelly.)
PRINCESS: No…you…don't…
(The Princess grips her head and closes her eyes, focusing. Padmasambhava's head looks towards her, his attention drawn. At the same time, Jamie, Thomni and Victoria find themselves free to move again. While Victoria hangs back, Jamie and Thomni fight the wind, as they head around behind Padmasambhava's chair.)
DOCTOR: Quickly…. Find the control room… Smash the controls….
(Jamie and Thomni reach the back wall and begin feeling about for a secret door or mechanism. In the end, Jamie finds a small nook in the wall. He pulls at it, opening a slab of the wall, revealing another room behind the Sanctum.)
JAMIE: Through here, Thomni!
(Jamie and Thomni head through, finding a room filled with computer banks. There is also a table with several control spheres that make up a pyramid, and one giant sphere in the opposite corner. The pair quickly set to work smashing the computer banks with their bow staffs. Meanwhile, in the Sanctum, the mental battle between the Princess, Doctor and Intelligence continues. But as it does, the Yeti models on the table begin to move on their own into position.)
VICTORIA: Doctor, he's bringing the Yeti in!
DOCTOR: Victoria…Victoria, we can't hold him… The models… Grab the models!
(Victoria tries getting to the table, but looks up at Padmasambhava. And as she looks up, she begins to fall into a hypnotic trance, her eyelids lowering as she comes a halt.)
PRINCESS: Victoria…fight him… You can do it…remember, 'This too shall pass…'
(Victoria closes her eyes, concentrating.)
VICTORIA: This…This too shall pass. This too shall pass. This too shall pass.
(With each sentence, Victoria takes a step closer to the table, getting closer and closer.)
VOICE: This will not do.
DOCTOR: You can't stop us!
VOICE: Then you must help me…Princess.
DOCTOR: No!
VOICE: I've been in your mind before. It shall be simple enough for me to enter it again.
DOCTOR: No, Princess, don't let it in!
(But already the Princess' concentration is breaking. Her arms have fallen to her side. Her eyes are open wide. And she stares up blankly at Padmasambhava.)
VOICE: Stop your friend, Princess. Kill her.
PRINCESS: (Monotone) Kill her. Kill her.
(The Princess rises to her feet.)
DOCTOR: Princess, no! Fight…Fight it!
(The Doctor is still unable to move, locked in his mental battle with the Intelligence. But the Princess walks right over to Victoria, who has almost reached the table. She stops however, seeing the mindless Princess coming towards her.)
VICTORIA: Princess?
VOICE: Kill her!
PRINCESS: Kill her. Kill her. Kill her!
(The Princess grabs Victoria.)
VICTORIA: Princess!
(Victoria screams as the Princess pushes her to the ground.)
DOCTOR: Princess, no… Remember…Remember your promise…to Waterfield… Remember…!
(The Princess is holding Victoria down, but she closes her eyes, concentrating once more.)
PRINCESS: (Strained) Promise… I promised…
VOICE: Kill her!
(The Princess' blank eyes open back up.)
PRINCESS: I promised to kill her.
VICTORIA: No!
(The Princess' eyes shut again, as she fights the Intelligence's hold over her.)
PRINCESS: (Strained) No… I promised…I promised…to…to protect her… I promised to protect her…
DOCTOR: Again…
PRINCESS: I promised to protect her… I promised to protect her…
(And with each sentence, the Princess gains more control, slowly releasing her grasp on Victoria.)
VOICE: No. I am in your mind. You will do as I say.
PRINCESS: I say…get out!
(In the air, Padmasambhava drops slight, before regaining his composure.)
DOCTOR: Yes, well done, Princess!
PRINCESS: Victoria, are you all right?
VICTORIA: Yes.
PRINCESS: I'm sorry, it took control. I never wanted to–
VICTORIA: It's all right, Princess.
(Victoria hugs the Princess and the Princess hugs her back. But the tender moment is ruined as the Yeti barge into the Sanctum.)
VICTORIA: Oh, no!
PRINCESS: Hold on!
DOCTOR: Jamie! Jamie! The Yeti are here!
JAMIE: Yeti?
THOMNI: But we have destroyed the machines.
JAMIE: Well, there must something else that controls them… The control unit, of course, the sphere!
(In the back room, Jamie and Thomni then set to work destroying the giant sphere in the corner of the room. But the Yeti are now stood over the Doctor, Princess and Victoria.)
VICTORIA: Princess?!
PRINCESS: Don't look, Victoria!
DOCTOR: Jamie, hurry!
(The Yeti rise their hands, before swinging them down with the intent to kill. The Princess throws up her hand, a golden aura appearing around her arm. That aura then spreads like a bubble, encapsulating herself, Victoria, the Doctor, Yeti and Padmasambhava. Inside the bubble, time slows down, the winds quieten. The Yeti's swinging arms move at a snail's pace. And in the other room, Jamie and Thomni are given the time they need to destroy the giant sphere. And when they do, the golden bubble pops. The control units inside the Yeti explode, and one by one they all fall backwards.)
VOICE: One stroke of fortune will not save you.
TRAVERS: How about another then!
(At that moment, Travers and Rapachan run into the room. Travers takes aim with his rifle and fires at Padmasambhava. But the bullet stops in mid-air, before Padmasambhava's body, only to then drop to the floor.)
VOICE: Stupid man. Did you not feel enough of my power when you met me in the cave?
TRAVERS: The cave… The pyramid… My head…
(Travers clutches at his head, dropping to his knees.)
PRINCESS: (To herself) The pyramid. (Aloud) Jamie! The pyramid you and Victoria found in the cave!
JAMIE: There's one here just like it
DOCTOR & PRINCESS: Destroy it!
VOICE: No!
(Too late, Jamie and Thomni have smashed the pyramid of control spheres with their bow staffs. And when they do, Padmasambhava's body drops from the air, landing back in his chair as he screams. A white glow seems to irradiate from him, before vanishing. And as it does, the face of Padmasambhava turns from painful contempt, to serene and relieved. All around them, the monastery, and the mountain shake – as the peak that was consumed by the physical form of the Intelligence explodes. It takes a moment, but soon the rumbling comes to an end. All is still for a moment, as everyone comes together, and the Princess puts her top hat back on. Then, a long joyful sigh from Padmasambhava.)
VICTORIA: Look at him.
PADMASAMBHAVA: At last, peace…
(Padmasambhava's body begins to break apart piece by piece, literally turning to dust before their eyes. But his voice continues.)
PADMASAMBHAVA: Thank you, Doctor, Princess.
(All that remains of Padmasambhava, is the clothes he wore, now in a heap on his chair.)
PRINCESS: Goodbye.
DOCTOR: Old friend.
PRINCESS: Rest well.
JAMIE: Are you all right, Doctor?
DOCTOR: Yes, Jamie.
VICTORIA: And you, Princess?
PRINCESS: Head's ringing.
DOCTOR: Understandable.
PRINCESS: What about you two? (To Victoria) I didn't hurt you, did I?
VICTORIA: No, I'm all right.
JAMIE: Aye, same here.
THOMNI: Is it over?
DOCTOR: Yes. The Intelligence is gone. As I thought, without that pyramid, it was unable to stretch its will to Earth, and so lost control of Padmasambhava. Like with how radio masts extend the reach of signals.
TRAVERS: I'll take your word for it, Doctor.
THOMNI: Can I give the signal for our brothers to return then?
DOCTOR: Yes, of course. On you go, Thomni.
(Thomni and Ralpachan happily leave the Sanctum. Meanwhile, Travers approaches the table before Padmasambhava's chair, picking up one of the Yeti models.)
PRINCESS: That might make a nice souvenir.
TRAVERS: Suppose. Not sure I believe that that old man was responsible for all this though. The Yeti. The cave.
DOCTOR: Oh no, no. He was just a tool in the hands of a monstrous brain. It wasn't his fault.
VICTORIA: What a horrible fate.
PRINCESS: He's somewhere better now, Victoria. After three hundred years, he's free once more.
(From the courtyard, a gong rings out, echoing across the mountain. Singling that the siege of Det-Sen is over.)
(Later, in the courtyard of the monastery, Ralpachan is still ringing the gong. The door in the gate is open, with Travers patiently waiting, while the time travellers and Thomni stand nearby.)
THOMNI: Please, Doctor, Princess, our Abbot will be most grieved that he did not thank you all personally. Will you not wait?
DOCTOR: Ah no, Thomni, we're anxious to get back to the Tardis.
THOMNI: Tardis?
PRINCESS: Our home.
THOMNI: I understand. Goodbye, Doctor. Goodbye, Princess.
PRINCESS: Goodbye, Thomni. (Kisses his cheek) Thank you for believing in us.
TRAVERS: I'll see them safely up the mountain.
(Travers exits through the door of the gate.)
DOCTOR: Goodbye, Thomni.
THOMNI: Goodbye.
VICTORIA: (Sadly) Bye, Thomni.
(With the Princess putting an arm around Victoria, the pair, along with the Doctor and Jamie, leave Det-Sen monastery.)
(Later, as the time travellers and Travers head up the mountain, they find a collapsed Yeti lying on the ground.)
JAMIE: Aye, well those things won't bother us anymore.
VICTORIA: Those horrible things.
DOCTOR: Ah, they were clever machines. Almost a pity to have had them destroyed.
PRINCESS: At least you'll have something to take home from your expedition, Travers.
TRAVERS: I suppose so. But nobody'll believe me. They'll think I had it made. No, I'm afraid the expedition's over now.
VICTORIA: (Pointing) Look!
(Across the hillside, they see a large furry creature in the distance. Having been spotted, it screeches at them.)
JAMIE: Oh no.
DOCTOR: It can't be!
PRINCESS: Oh, isn't he adorable!
(The creature makes some noises, shies away, then races off across the mountain.)
TRAVERS: A Yeti. A real Yeti! At last! Excuse the haste. Goodbye and all that. Mustn't lose this one.
(And with that, Travers races off after the real Yeti.)
JAMIE: Do you think he'll ever catch his abominable snowman, Doctor?
DOCTOR: That we shall never know, Jamie.
PRINCESS: We might one day.
VICTORIA: What makes you say that, Princess?
PRINCESS: Well, I think I saw an older Travers in a premonition before. So maybe we will meet him again.
(Jamie shivers, hugging himself.)
DOCTOR: What's the matter with you? Are you cold or something?
JAMIE: Oh, it's all right for you in your home-made Yeti kit.
DOCTOR: Yes, I suppose there is a little bit of a nip in the air.
JAMIE: A nip? A nip?! Just look at my knees! They're bright blue.
DOCTOR: What a horrible sight.
(The Princess and Victoria giggle.)
JAMIE: Could you not land us somewhere warmer next time?
DOCTOR: Jamie, you never know, do you?
(With that, the time travellers begin to make their way up the mountain and back to the Tardis. But as they walk, the Princess suddenly hears that rhythmic beeping again. But by the time the Princess looks back, the beeping has stopped.)
VICTORIA: Everything all right, Princess?
JAMIE: Aye, what's the hold up?
(The Princess looks back down the mountain, at Det-Sen at the Yeti that's laid on the ground nearby. Then she looks up to the sky.)
DOCTOR: Princess.
(The Princess turns back around, as if waking up.)
PRINCESS: Sorry. Coming.
JAMIE: Och, lost in your wee world again.
DOCTOR: Don't worry about him. He's just in a mood because he's cold.
JAMIE: Well, I am cold!
DOCTOR: You should have put on some trousers, like Victoria.
PRINCESS: You look great in that by the way, Victoria.
VICTORIA: Thank you, Princess.
JAMIE: Aye, sure, gang up on me, why don't you.
(And so, the time travellers continue to tease one another and laugh, as they head up the mountain, and towards their next adventure…)
