Koragg's Victory

Billy rubbed his forehead, his elbows resting on his desk, his eyes fixated on his notebook, in which he had scribbled everything Ninjor had told him in a hurry, lest he forgot it.

Ninjor's voice out of a blue wolf – spirit animal?

Something wrong in the Grid

Spirit World in turmoil

Needed again

Dark wolves have been awakened

Gather the pack- team?

Billy sighed. Why didn't Ninjor just tell him what exactly was going on?

This was not something he could do on his own and he really wished he was not the one who got a visit from someone from the other side. Science and technology were his forte, not this spirit world mumbo jumbo.

Billy reached for his communicator. He did not want to do this, but if anything, he knew it was worse if he tried to seek answers on his own. He needed his team.

The battle was over before it began.

The creatures tore through their weapons as if they were plastic toys and swatted their elemental attacks without any effort.

Madison cried out in pain, as she was thrown against a tree trunk hard, the impact forcing her to demorph. She looked weakly, her eyes widening in terror on seeing two wolfblades charge at her, their eyes filled with hunger and the moonlight reflecting from their sharp fangs.

"Jenji Shining Attack!" Daggeron yelled, running past her and standing protectively in between her and the creatures as he fired his Laser Lamp at them. Jenji shot out from the lamp, his body glowing with ethereal golden energy as he smashed his fists against their jaws, knocking them out cold before he returned to his lamp.

"Are you okay?" Daggeron asked, helping Madison up.

"My back…" She winced.

"We need to retreat." Ryan said, coming up beside them as he fired at a trio of Wolfblades, who were running at Daggeron and Madison.

"We can't just let him win." Nick grunted, leaping at Koragg with his magi staff, his arms outstretched as his body was enveloped by magical flames, the phoenix spirit materializing behind him. "I summon the power of the Phoenix!"

Before he could deliver the attack, a wolfblade tackled him from behind, tossing him to the ground and derailing the attack.

"No…" Nick hurriedly shook off the creature and scampered back, seeing it get burned up by the flames and releasing a swirl of dark smoke that swooped past him and struck Koragg, his visor glowing red and his silver wolf pauldrons becoming larger and cracks of dark energy run down his armour like lava lines of a volcano.

"You will fall, ranger!" He growled, lunging at Nick, only to be blasted back by a bolt of purple light. He looked up to see the pink ranger flying overhead, her suit now mauve and her cape replaced by grey withered bat wings.

"Not today!" Vida said, firing bolts of dark energy at the wolfblades, drawing their attention away from her teammates.

"We need to go, Nick." Xander said firmly, tugging the red ranger away from Koragg.

"Yeah, not sure we can take any more of them." Chip agreed, clutching his arm.

"We need a proper plan on how to defeat these creatures." Lena said, firing lightning bolts from her bow, the magic blasts simply throwing the monsters back instead of incinerating them.

Neil joined his mother, firing arrows from his bow that froze the creatures on impact, even though they broke through the ice within seconds.

They regrouped, Daggeron carrying Madison and faced the army of wolfblades led by Koragg.

"Ready to give up now?" Bandora smirked at them, her hands cackling with purple lightning. "I can arrange your deaths to be quick and painless."

Vida flew down to stand in front of the other rangers protectively, her wings withering away as dark energies flowed from it to solidify in an orb in her outstretched arms. She let it loose, a barrage of pure magical energy that slammed against the forces in a huge explosion.

Koragg lifted his shield to protect himself and Bandora while the wolfblades were mostly consumed by the attack.

The dust settled to reveal the rangers had fled.

"The pink witch has incredible power." Koragg stated.

"You can thank Necrolai's brat for that." Bandora scoffed. "But no matter, our forces outmatch her and she alone can't stop what's coming."

Koragg's armour glowed purple seconds before numerous spell circles appeared all over the devastated village and the wolf creatures were reformed, their eyes blank and their hunger for carnage tripled as they howled in unison.

"So, you are telling us Ninjor came to you taking the form of a wolf, gave you cryptic warnings and then poofed away." Kim said. "If I did not know better, I would say you were high or something."

"Believe me, the urge to write this off as a hallucination is very tempting but…" Billy groaned, looking at the others who had gathered in the Conference Room of the Command Center, he had built in secrecy underneath Cranston Tech- all the Mighty Morphin and Zeo Rangers plus Hayley, Cam, Dr Fairweather, and representatives from other teams- TJ, Carter, Eric, Kira and Taylor.

"Once a Ranger, always a Ranger." Adam finished with a smile.

"Well, your animal spirit is the wolf, it is kind of obvious why he came to you instead of us." Tommy said. "We should look into what Ninjor meant by dark wolves and gathering the pack."

"My team faced creatures known as Wolfblades." Cam said. "Basically, ancient werewolf demons. But we destroyed the last of them in our final battle."

"That's a lead." Jason said.

"So, what are we supposed to do now?" Taylor asked. "Just sit back and wait for these things to attack?"

"Wait… a couple of months ago, Merrick contacted us, basically telling us to quarantine a particular section of the woods outside Blue Bay Harbour… Something about a wolf creature staying there. Now that you mention it, he did call them by that name… Wolfblade."

"And we just let a monster stay there?" Zack asked.

"Merrick was adamant about it." Eric huffed. "Said it's no different than wild lions or wolves staying in their own part of the forest and not deliberately seeking to harm humans unless they were provoked."

"That makes sense." Aisha agreed before frowning. "Are we supposed to treat monsters like wildlife now? Moreover, are monsters like animals?"

"Let's table this conversation for now and focus on the imminent threat we might be facing." Nancy interrupted sharply. "We can discuss monster rights after this is dealt with."

There was a nod of agreements.

"What did he mean by pack though?" Rocky asked. "Does it mean gathering the team again?"

"I wondered the same. If that is the case, I have already accomplished it." Billy said.

"Or maybe it means something different." Trini paused to look at him. "If he meant the team, he could have just said 'team', but if he said 'pack' and pack exclusively refers to wolves, maybe he means you have to look for other rangers with wolf powers?"

"That does make sense." Billy smiled lightly. "We need to find them then."

"My team had Merrick. He is our Silver but I have no means of contacting him. He is probably camping in some forest with Zen Aku." Taylor said.

"I can send in a team of Silver Guardians to track him from his last known location." Eric said.

"And he is the only other wolf ranger?" Kat asked.

"Of this planet at least." Billy said. "The Quasar Rangers of Mirinoi had a yellow wolf ranger if I remember correctly."

"Right. Her name is Maya. Angela and I met her briefly when her team came to Earth and helped us defeat Trakeena." Carter said.

"Yeah, my team met her too." TJ nodded.

"We did establish long range communications with Eternity City of Mirinoi a while back. I can send a message to the Lost Galaxy Rangers." Hayley offered.

"Yeah, let's do that." Tommy nodded. "We don't know exactly what we are dealing with here, so best to keep all ranger teams alert anyway."

"Rangers!" Udonna cried seeing her charges appear in Rootcore and promptly demorph.

"Madison and Chip need help." Daggeron said, leading the two to the cots, Lena quickly heading over to assess them.

"I should have been with you." Clare sighed softly as she and Darien came up with trays which held goblets containing healing concoctions.

"I am not sure it would have helped, Clare. They were extremely powerful." Daggeron said. "It was a miracle we were able to escape with our lives."

"Look." Vida pointed at the crystal ball, which showed the creatures she had destroyed with her attack reforming. "Last time, my attack destroyed the werewolf but this time, it did nothing."

She coughed, doubling over as her skin became chalk white, her eyes crimson and black veins creeped their way across her face.

"Vida!" Madison yelled, standing up and rushing over to her sister, despite her pain, the others following.

"You overextended yourself, Vida." Udonna sighed. "You might be the queen of vampires now, but even your magic has its limits."

"Here." Lena flicked her hand, and a cabinet in the opposite side of the room opened, revealing stacks of potions, herbs, medicines, first aid packs, and blood bags. One of the blood bags flew out to her hands, and she promptly handed it over to Vida, who tore it without any hesitation and gulped its contents without wasting a single drop. The other rangers blanched but did not step away. The effects were instantaneous, her skin and eyes reverting to normal, and the dark veins vanishing.

"Thanks." Vida nodded at Lena.

"Are you okay?" Madison asked, concerned.

"I am fine." Vida smiled, before frowning. "How the heck are we supposed to beat them if they are indestructible?"

"I will check the records in our library." Clare said.

"Ryan, you seemed to know these creatures." Nick turned towards the veteran ranger, who nodded, deep in thought.

"I do, but I have no idea how to defeat them. These creatures are a hybrid between the demons who kidnapped me and the Orgs, shadow spirits that are born from pollution and decay as well as rogue werewolf spirits. They are rare but extremely dangerous." Ryan said. "But that does make me wonder how Bandora or rather the purple knight seemed to control them?"

"Well, Koragg does call himself the Knight Wolf, maybe that's why he can control them?" Chip offered.

"Even if his totem is a wolf, it does not give him dominion over wolves or wolf spirits. At best, it can give him the ability to communicate with them or influence one or two of them, but to command an entire legion is impossible." Udonna pointed out.

"Maybe normally, but add in a few dark rituals…" Daggeron trailed off.

"And you can theoretically bind those spirits to Koragg." Lena completed.

"As much as I like magic theory lessons, how does that help us in stopping those things?" Neil asked.

"We can look into what rituals Bandora has used, try to gather up more information…" Clare sighed. "But even with the time warping effect of the library, I don't know if we can acquire the knowledge and devise a plan to stop those creatures before they attack again."

"That's considering if your library even has any information on these things." Ryan pointed out.

"Still, it's the only lead we have." Udonna said. "Rangers, you should rest now while you can. Clare, Darien, and I will look if we can find anything on how to stop them."

"There's another angle we did not consider." Nick spoke up. "How did Koragg come back to life? Didn't we all see Bandora destroying him and Necrolai?"

"And if he is back, what are the chances Necrolai is back too?" Vida frowned.

"One problem at a time, guys." Ryan admonished gently.

"Maybe instead of destroying them, Bandora merely absorbed their energies." Udonna said. "And now, she has deigned to bring them back. It is near impossible to predict how her mind works or her motives for anything."

"It's not just that Koragg is back." Xander bit his lips. "He is more powerful and unhinged now."

"Maybe the ritual Bandora used messed up his brain or something?" Vida shrugged.

"Whatever the case, I don't think we can get any answers to that yet." Udonna said firmly. "You all take rest. Bandora might take time to revel in her victory now, but she will attack sooner rather than later."

The rangers nodded, lying down in chairs or cots while Udonna, Clare and Darien headed for the library.

Billy suddenly felt the voices of those around him become muffled and his vision start to blur as he heard a loud howl… a wolf howl, followed by another... It seemed to call out to him, drawing him somewhere.

He whirled around, unable to see anything and no doubt alerting the other rangers. He could not understand what they were saying though he could make out Trini, Zack, and Kim's alarmed voices.

He opened his mouth to tell them about the howls but before he could so, he felt a flash of blue light coalesce around him.
