Chapter17 A Room for a Human.
" That's right..it's house number 2...number 2 mate, yes, the Cul-de sac, right, see you in a moment, thanks mate, " Bandit hug up his phone as he eagerly looked toward Chilie who was preparing a cup of Coffee at the counter.
" it's almost here just around the corner now.." Bandit said setting down his phone down on the kitchen table as Chili sipped some of the fresh Coffee from her mug.
" That's great to hear, better get out there to greet them then." Chili said setting her mug down.
" Yeah I'll get on that now, Where's Jacob? " Bandit said getting up from his chair
" I think he's downstairs " Chili replied as Bandit nodded.
" Right then, we'll go handle it, he might even want to help set it up. " Bandit said making his way out of the Kitchen, He headed downstairs where Jacob was sweeping the floor.
" Jacob, it's almost here mate, wanna help me grab it?" Bandit spoke to the human, Jacob looked up and set down the broom.
"Oh, Yeah sure thing. " He nodded as Bandit smiled.
" Thanks, it's should be arriving any minute now." Bandit sad as he made his way to the front door, soon fallowed by Jacob.
The two now stood outside on the front Porch simply waiting, chatting and just taking in the nice warm weather, it was a bit of a hot one today.
" I hope those kids remembered to put on their sun screen at school."
Jacob glanced at Bandit, pondering how dogs would need sunscreen with fur, but then his thought was quickly interrupted as Bandit pointed out that van was coming.
" Ah that must be it, bet you're excited. no more sleeping on a couch " Bandit chuckled nudging the human slightly " to which Jacob just sheepishly chuckled.
Soon the van pulled up, a picture of a cheerful dog was printed on the side of the van with the words " Comfy deliveries " next to it.
Bandit soon was approached by the driver who spoke to him, having him sign a paper before two other dogs grabbed a box out of the back of the van.
" Here you are then, thanks for the purchase, enjoy the new bed." The dog said with a thumbs up before getting back into the van with the others and excited the driveway.
Jacob who remained up on the porch now came down to join Bandit where the box was placed,
" Well, there we are Mate, one twin sized bed delivered. " The heeler spoke patting the box, " let's get it inside then shall we?"
Jacob nodded as he grabbed one end and band grabbed the other end and both of them carried into the house, with some little struggle, they manage to get the heavy box up the stairs and over down the hallway until they reached a door.
" Okay let's just shimmy this inside " Bandit said as they both began to shift around until they were able to push the box through the door way and into the room where they finally set it the box down onto the ground.
" There, that does it for that bit. " Bandit said groaning a bit " What I'd do to be you're age again mate " Bandit said rubbing his back a bit.
Jacob chuckled a bit as he inspected the Box.
" Assembly should be easy, just some bolts here and there, and the frame should come together, you can unpack it, I'm gonna go get a tool kit...it's around here somewhere..." Bandit said heading out of the room now.
" Yeah I'll get it out of the box " Jacob said as he began to tear off the tape on the box, now alone in the room...His new room.
It wasn't a very big room nor was it too small, it had white wall, and a wooden floor, and a single small window, the room itself was bare of anything. though that wasn't always the case, it had once been one of many storage rooms in this house, just some boxes had been piled up in here over the years. boxes he helped Bandit clear out the other day into a much larger storage room that was across Bluey and Bingo's room, he helped them with the task when Both the Heelers had brought up the idea of giving Jacob a more proper place to sleep from now on.
And he could understand why, he had been here for about two weeks now, two weeks of being in this Dog world, specifically Dog Australia as he's come to call it. two weeks of being with the Heelers. and yet he still has not come any closer to figuring out how he got here exactly or how he can find a way back to the Human world.
When he could though he, Bandit and Chili would sit down to discuss his situation and possible ideas on how to go forward with it, but given his circumstances, there was not a lot they could easily come up with. he was from another world, and that's something that both Human and Dogfolk can't really understand on how to deal with.
Though he and the Heelers never gave up on it, however for the time being, they continued to help Jacob by getting him more and more settled into this new world. and this new room was the next big step. there was no telling just how much longer he was going to be here for.
" Found it!" Bandit suddenly said interrupting Jacob's thoughts as he returned back into he room with a tool kit at hand.
" Lets have a crack at this shall we? you ever set up a bed before?" Bandit spoke as Jacob shook his head.
" Back home I've slept on the same bed sense I was like 7, so never had to set up another one myself " Jacob said rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
" Ah I see, well should be nothing too this, " Bandit said setting the tool kit down. " Lets have at it then. "
Soon Both Jacob and Bandit began to process of constructing the new bed, firstly by unpacking every part single bit that was bagged up. metal frames, beams, legs, and the Matrass itself.
" Why do these instructions always seem to come in every language except English! " Bandit mutter, looking through the instructions on a sheet of paper. "
" I think it's this one?" Jacob said holding up another piece of paper with instructions on it.
" Oh, right, " Bandit said sheepishly " give us a look then." Bandit said grabbing it. " Ah ha...here we are..." he read through the instructions.
Bandit began showing Jacob the know how on putting together a bed, at least as well as he could despite having the instructions, but it all came down to simply screwing in screws, and fitting pieces together as he said before.
One thing Jacob could take away from this, is how Bandit responded to getting a wound when he drop a tool on his paw, or bumped his head on a frame for eighth time, something Jacob learned Bandit did so by simply shouting the phrase, Biscuits in a pained manner.
Bandit now wiped some sweat away..." And that's all their is too it mate "
" Well that seemed fairly easy " Jacob said putting down a screw driver.
" Indeed it was. " Bandit said rubbing a bump on his head " now let's have a look at it, what do you think?" Bandit said as they both stood back to admire their handy worked, the bed was simple, a single person mattress.
" It looks great, it really does " Jacob said with a smile on his face, prompting bandit to chuckle.
" Well you can't tell just by looking at it, give her a test?" He said patting the boy on the back. Jacob approached the mattress, first feeling it with his hand before sitting down on it,
" How's it feel? "
" It feels really nice, " Jacob said looking quite satisfied with his new bed, his new accommodations...
Bandit smiled nodding hid head now " Goon on ya then, well I'll leave you to get more settled in, we'll get some sheets and blankets for that bed. " bandit added picking up the tool kit and exiting the room.
Jacob sighed as he sat on his new bed, a mix of emotion running through his head, appreciation for sure. he was happy that the Heelers would actually go as far as to get him a bed to sleep on now, they done so much for him he can never forget that, but at the same time the bed also was a reminder that, he may be hear for a long time...no telling how long it could be.
He laid back on the bed now to test it out fully, it was very comfy to say the least, soft yet firm, and something he's notice over his time of being in this world, with the dog folk having a much bigger build then humans, furniture was certainly a bit bigger...meaning this bed despite being a single twin sized, felt bigger then the one he'd find back in the human that just meant more space for him.
He stretched his limbs a bit and sighed.
" It's been so long sense I slept on a bed...not sense... " he then thought back and winced remembering the harsh outback, but he quickly shook those thoughts out as he continued to enjoy his new bed.
He relaxed a bit more, observing the empty room around him. it didn't let in as much light as the TV room did..nor did it not have a TV...but it was quiet, and private. his own..space...
Shortly after Chili stepped into the room holding a bundle of blankets sheets and a pillow in her arms.
" How are you finding the bed Jacob? looks pretty good " she said approaching him.
Jacob sat upright " It's quite comfy, thanks, a lot "
." It's no problem, it's the next logical step I say, can't have you sleeping on the couch all the time , a bed is a much better place wouldn't you agree?" she smiled " anyway, I have some sheets hear for you, you know how to set a bed right?" She said a bit sheepishly at the question.
" Of course " Jacob replied getting up now to take the bundle from her.
" Well, just checking, I'll let you do that then, holler if you need anything else." she said as she was about leave the boy alone.
" Wait, there is one thing " Jacob then said.
" Oh what is it?"
" Um, could I use the Tablet again, I want to see if I can find anything else about...me being here."
" Ooh, I see, well, sure if you think it'll help, I'll go get it, be back shortly " Chili said as she exited the room.
Jacob meanwhile quickly got to work making his bed, spreading the sheets and blankets, soon he had the bed looking very neat and tidy. he gave a satisfied sigh once it was completed..

Meanwhile as Chili went to get the Tablet from their room, she could overhear Her husband talking on the phone to someone in the Living room.
" It's a bit complicated Mum, we found him in our backyard...he was injured, He's only sixteen... he was clearly lost, but he's been with us for a bit now, he's healed up sense then...no we didn't report it, as I said this is, a bit complex to explain.
Bandit continued to talk awaiting for the voice on the other end to speak " look we've decided to take him as our responsibility until we can help him figure things out, that much I can say. "
Chili popped in as Bandit listened to the voice on the other end for a bit then sigh. " Yeah, you can meet him soon, he might still be around I think, okay, love you too Mum, take care. " Bandit then hug up the phone when he then notice Chili standing there.
" That was my Mum, I tried to update her on the situation we have with Jacob." He explained to her.
" How's she handling it?" Chili asked stepping into the room, further.
" She's...doing her best, I just told her he's a lost kid staying with us. not sure really how to explain the "whole " thing to her, but now she's wondering if she'll get a chance to meet him."
" Meet him? hmm wonder how Jacob would feel " Chili said rubbing her chin.
" He did pretty well meeting my brother and his family, I'm sure Mum won't be an issue, but she doesn't know Jacob's..Human..I tried to explain he's not from around here though, I'm not sure how long we can keep saying Jacob is simply from Canada before dogs begin to realize something else is up."
" I know it's tough, but their is only so much we can to do make this easy. " Chili informed.
Bandit nodded " Yeah, I don't think even Wendy is still quite understanding on the whole matter, specially after the little incident the past weekend."
" Well, I was the one who explained it too her, so I think that did help a little " she smirked as Bandit nodded then widen his eyes.
" Hey!" Bandit retorted.
Chili chuckled as she then kissed him on the Cheek " things will work out soon enough, we'll figure this out, like we always do."
Bandit smiled " yeah, I know...so, how's Jacob finding the new bed? did you see it?"
" Oh yeah, I brought him some Fresh sheets and blankets, ooh, I was supposed to be getting the tablet for him " Chili said standing back up.
" What for? " Bandit asked as Chili glanced away.
" He..wants to look up some things about his situation...Poor thing, he must really be missing home, he's been with us for two weeks now Bandit.."
Bandit. nodded his head " I see, I can understand the kid probably misses his family, his parents. he..hasn't talked about them much though I can't help but notice."
Chili pondered for a moment..." he's trying to avoid it I think...because it'll remind him of them, and how he's separated from them."
" I can only imagine what worries his folks are going through, not knowing where their son is...did Jacob ever mention if he was an only Child?" Bandit now questioned.
" Not that I recall or remember..but I suppose it wouldn't be wise to ask him, if he's avoiding talking about his family we best not force him too unless it's really urgent. "
Bandit nodded in agreement, as suddenly his phone buzzed.." Ah, it's almost time to pick up Bluey and Bingo from school, I'll get too that then " He said getting up.
" Right, well I better bring Jacob the tablet, see you soon " Chili said giving Bandit another smooch.
Jacob sat on his bed, resting his head on the Pillow feeling the softness of it. his eyes were shut, he let out a tired little yawn, enveloped in the comfort he now found himself in.
" Jacob? Hey, I have the tablet dear."
Jacob opened his eyes now to see Chili standing in the doorway., he quickly sat up now.
" Ooh, right right, thanks Mrs Heeler. " he said as Chili came into the room, and set the Tablet on the mattress next to him
" Jacob...just know that, we are doing everything we can to help you get back home, I know it's tough going through this, but we will figure something out. "
Jacob look up at her for a moment before he spoke " I know, I'm just, wanting to see if I can find anything, anything at all that can remotely relate to what I'm going through here."
Chili gave an understanding nod " I know sweetie, I know it's tough." she said gently patting his shoulder to which he just gave a light smile too..
" Thanks, for everything, it really means a lot " Jacob asked.
" It's no problem, I gotta go start on dinner preparation soon though. Bandit when to go pick up Bluey and Bingo,so they'll be home soon, they'll be excited to see you're new room " she chuckled with a wink.
Jacob arched a brow as Chili soon left leaving the Boy alone again. Jacob let out a sigh then put on a determined face..
" Okay lets do this.." he grabbed the tablet as he began to search through it, finding the search app he used once before. he pondered on what to do first when he then figured it, he typed in the first topic on the search bar.
" Alternate universes ."
He hit search and waited as a list of responses soon appeared before him, he then tapped on the first result, he was going to have a lot of researching too do now...
