The Equalizer

Ch.4

Robyn was shocked. She was cornered by her daughter and her aunt. What was her private knowledge was now a "family meeting" and she had nothing to say.

"Well, I…What happened was…You see it started like this," she said.

"Robyn please just tell us the truth so we can help you and figure out how to help you."

"The truth is that I don't know who the father is. It could be Miles or Marcus. I have been seeing them both lately and I was going to talk to Marcus about it, but the case got in the way," she explained.

For moments the three women of different generations stood in silence. Was this a crisis on their hands? Equalizing was not a job a pregnant woman could do. Her body was put through plenty when fighting crime.

" I'm going to make us all some tea and we will discuss this further," Aunt Vi said.

Aunt Vi got them all chamomile tea, but the elephant was still in the room.

"Alrighty now Robyn, what are we going to do?"

"I just still can't believe it. I thought I was so careful," Robyn said throwing her arms down.

"Mom, are you going to keep it?" Delilah asked holding her mug and looking deeply at her mother.

"Yes. Whoever is the father this baby is born of a man I love."

"Well, that settles that," Aunt Vi cut in.

"What about equalizing? Fighting and doing everything it takes to beat bad guys can't be good for the baby," Delilah said with concern.

" I know but, I can still help in the lab. I can still be a little active during the first trimester. I was active with you," Robyn said with a nod to her daughter.

"So, are you going to have a prenatal test taken so you can figure out who the father is?" Delilah asked.

"Yeah." " I have to but I'm afraid that once I find out I will have to go with that man and its been honestly nice getting the best of both worlds."

"Robyn. I knew that this was going to happen. You got comfortable with the both of them but now you'll have to choose."

"Well, you can always co-parent with the father and then be with who you want to be with. Of course this is your life," Aunt Vi said.

"I feel like I can't choose between them. Together they make the perfect man.

"Why don't you sleep on it Robyn. You and the baby could use some rest," Aunt Vi said.

"I am pretty tired now that you mention it. I think I'll hit the bed," Robyn said taking her shoes off.

Robyn tossed and turned as she slept. In her dream she was bound to a chair she saw a different evil version of herself who beat her up and tortured her. Then she heard a baby cry and a crib with a baby in it. "No, not my baby," Robyn cried as the evil version of Robyn picked up the helpless little infant.

She woke up in a cold sweat. She went down to the kitchen for a snack instead she reheated breakfast leftovers that consisted of bacon, waffles and eggs with orange juice.

"You're up real early either your cravings have kicked in or you couldn't sleep," Aunt Vi said checking in on her niece.

"It's a bit of both," Robyn said.

"Well make sure you try to get some more rest when you're done eating," Aunt Vi said helping herself to some iced tea.

"Auntie I think I need to go and schedule my Oby Gyn appointment and then see about taking a DNA test. Once I find out who the daddy is, I can work my way from there."

" Robyn you know you have me to babysit for you and help in anyway needed?"

"Thanks auntie I know."

"Whoo, I can't believe I'm going through this again at this stage of life," Robyn said before taking a gulp of orange juice.

"In a way it's kind of exciting to get to watch another little one grow up since Dee is a senior," Aunt Vi said before her sip of iced tea.

"You know there was A LOT I missed out on with Delilah and now It's like I have a second chance."

"Those are rare. I would make good on it," Aunt Vi said.

After she'd eaten Robyn went back to bed and put her hand on her belly. "The world can be a crazy and dark place but don't worry I'm working to make it a better place. And you may be a surprise but that doesn't mean that you're unwanted," she said to her stomach.

In the morning Robyn met up with Aunt Vi and Delilah in the kitchen.

"Good Morning Mom."

"Good Morning Robyn."

"How are you feeling?"

"Any morning sickness recently?"

"Woah one at a time with the questions," Robyn said helping herself to one of Aunt Vi's freshly made scones.

"Mom you actually look glowy."

"Yes she does."

"Awe thank you baby. I haven't really looked in the mirror recently."

"So, are you going to make your appointment this morning?" Aunt Vi asked.

"Yes in fact I am planning to do so after I eat breakfast."

Robyn called her OBY GYN and managed to get an appointment for that very same day, as rare as that was. As soon as she secured the appointment at 4:00 p.m. Harry messaged her.
