Morgan receives the news that Richmond County police reported there was an explosion at a gas station. One victim. Male.
Morgan turns to Natalie, "Go. You are not your sister and he knows that."
Natalie doesn't wait for him to finish before she finds him. He is sitting on the floor, back against the wall, knees to his chest, head down. He doesn't hear her footsteps, it's not until she speaks that he looks up.
"So we have to assume that whatever Lindsey did, your moms still alive." He doesn't respond. She sits down next to him. As she does, she moves to grab his hand but he pulls away from her.
For a brief moment, Natalie thinks this is because she looks like Cat but then Reid speaks softly,
"I'm really scared…that this is who I am now."
"Don't say that." Natalie replies.
Reid replies, using her full name, something he doesn't do often. "Natalie, you don't know what I did in there."
"I do know. I know what happened to your friend. I know he was killed in front of you. I know they wanted you to move drugs for them and if you didn't, you would have been next. Anyone in your position would have done the same thing." She says.
Reid looks in her eyes now, "You wouldn't have."
Natalie scoffs, "Yes. I would have."
Reid raises his eyebrows, surprised but an empathetic looks appears on his face.
She continues, "If someone threatened my life…yes. It does not make you a bad person. You know who does think like that, Spence? That doing what you have to do to survive makes you a psychopath? My sister." Sophie turns in the direction of the interrogation room. She repeats the words, "My sister."
Realization hits them both at the same time. He stands to his feet now, Natalie joins him.
"That's the secret. What I don't want to admit about myself. She knows."
Natalie pauses, she yells down the hall for Morgan to join them.
"Spence, we need to play this out. Cat lost to you once, she won't lose again. This is all about the two of you being the same."
"And she's all about the game." Reid concludes, "She thinks I cheated last time by lying about her dad so it's integral to her that I follow the rules."
Morgan interjects, "Yeah but kid, she controls the rules."
"And she'll change them to ensure she wins." Natalie added.
"Right, we're both locked in. She needs me locked in, playing by her rules, a game I can't win –" He doesn't finish the sentence. Instead, he turns down the hall, and walks back into the interrogation room. He shuts the door behind him this time and he doesn't look back.
"Guess that's one way to get you to put your hands on me." Cat responds to Reid walking back into the room.
"Dance with me." He replies, holding his hand out.
"Why?"
"Because I don't want the people watching us to hear what I'm going to say next." Reid answers, honestly.
Morgan and Natalie call the BAU.
"Is it up, Penelope?" Morgan asks, knowing she is not keen on nicknames right now.
"Yes." Garcia answers.
"Look, you're going to hear a lot of weird stuff…like Spencer being the father of Cat's baby…" Natalie begins. Garcia begins to interject but Natalie doesn't let her, "ignore it."
Cat and Reid dance, he asks, "You had eyes on me while I was in prison, didn't you?"
She learns her head into his shoulder, "Spencey - don't ruin the moment."
"I don't want to but I'm on the clock, remember. Answer the question. Am I right?"
"You're right. I wanted to make sure things were just as uncomfortable for you as they were for me." Cat said, truthfully.
Cat's admission confirmed what the BAU already knew about Wilkins but it added something. Wilkins had to have someone working with him because Reid's personnel file, he couldn't have gotten his hand on that himself.
"That's how you timed everything so perfectly. Like sending my mom and Lindsey to visit me when I thought I was at my lowest." Reid whispered in her ear.
Cat leaned her back, her eyes never leaving Reid's, "Thought? You sure you weren't?"
"No. I wasn't. Because I didn't feel bad, I felt scared at how much…I..enjoyed poisioning the other prisoners. I had a 100 ways of getting myself out of that situation but I picked the one that would cause the most pain."
"Look at that," Cat replied, "you might end up saving your mothers life after all."
Morgan and Natalie breathed sighs of relief, although uncomfortable for Natalie to watch, the more looming pressure of Reid's mom hung over her head, she focused on that.
The rest of the BAU tried to remember to ignore what Reid was saying but it did unsettle them, making them feel a sense of sadness for Agent Reid.
A ping went off and Garcia had located Wilkins, or at least an address, a cabin that fit within Lindsey's geographical profile.
"Let's go." Hotch said on cue.
"They won't get there in time," Cat states, she lowers her hands to Reid's jacket, straightening it as she continues, "your team. They're too good to wait around, right? But you know me. I always have a contingency plan so they're walking into a trap."
Cat moved her hands up his tie, she squeezed, pulling him slightly closer to her, "and the only way out is if you give me your phone…and your guess. Right now."
He removes his phone from his pocket handing it to Cat. She walks away back to her seat at the table. Reid follows but he sits at the top of the chair.
"When I first sat down, you said you were going to show me what kind of man I am…and you have."
"Everytime I touch this," referring to the numbers on the phone, "you're getting warmer." Cat bit her lip as she raised her eyebrows.
The agents moved in on the cabin. Rossi moved in first then Hotch. Prentiss and Alvez came from the other side. Several other agents filed in behind them. Hotch lowered his weapon, so did Prentiss.
"I'm waiting for a phone call." Lindsey said, a bunch of C-4 strapped to her.
"So are we, Lindsey." Prentiss said. A phone rang, Lindsey looked down, seemingly angry.
Prentiss pulled the phone out of her pocket, "Whoa, whoa, it's okay. Here it is."
"If this is a trick, I will kill all of us." Lindsey replied.
"I swear to you it's not a trick." Hotch told her.
Prentiss continued for him, "and you want to hear what the person on the other end of this line has to say."
