Navy Wives

Chapter 15-Leah Reynolds

"Oh, this felt so amazing." Christine remarked as Leah brushed her hair out.

"Washing your hair or a real shower?" Leah asked with a laugh.

"Both. I feel like a human." Christine replied.

"At this rate; you'll be out of the sick bay in no time." Leah remarked.

"They're just concerned that at night, my pulse ox dips a bit. Into the low 90s. If Mike could monitor me; it wouldn't be a big deal. But, he works sometimes." Christine replied.

"He's been very devoted." Leah said.

"Mike? Yeah. He's been really amazing. I just wonder how things will go once I get to the quarters." Christine remarked.

"Close quarters can make a heart fonder or make the walls close in." Leah said.

"And I'm worried about that." Christine replied.

"He loves you very deeply. He told me when you were sedated that he didn't want the divorce and because of the concerns about you being taken off the sedative; he was facing something far worse than a divorce. He was facing losing the woman he's loved for most of his life. Yes, he made mistakes. Maybe wasn't so attentive. Had cheated on you. But; Christine; he loves you and only you. He said he couldn't imagine his life without you in it." Leah said. Christine sat down to put her slippers on and smiled.

"I didn't know you and Mike had talked." Christine said.

"The night before they were taking you off the sedative." Leah replied.

"Mike didn't want a divorce. I get the feeling that he only agreed to it because he thought I wanted it." Christine said.

"That might be a strong possibility. What you have to decide now is…do you still want one?" Leah asked.

"More like; did I ever?" Christine remarked.

"That is something you have to answer for yourself." Leah said. Just then, Mike knocked on the door and announced himself. "Come in." Leah called. It was the female officer's shower room, so he only stood at the door.

"I don't work tonight and Dr. Scott said you could come back to my quarters if I monitored you. I'll have to take your pulse ox some but you'll be with the girls." Mike told Christine.

"And you." Christine remarked as she stood up.

"I'm just down the hall if you need me." Leah told her.

"Who do they have you bunking with?" Mike asked.

"At first, alone; but now Ravit." Leah said.

"She's very interesting." Christine remarked. She stood up and walked towards Mike with a smile.

"I haven't spoken with her much." Mike admitted. He held the door for Leah while holding Christine's hand. It made Leah smile slightly.

"Christine; I'll look in on you tomorrow. You get some rest tonight." Leah said, giving Christine a hug. She watched Mike and Christine make their way down the p-way. Thankfully, they didn't have very far to go. Leah made her own way back to her quarters and smiled at Ravit as she walked in.

"Did you help Mrs. Slattery?" Ravit asked.

"She got a real shower and her hair washed. I believe she feels like a new woman." Leah said.

"I braided Katie and Hannah's hair today. They are benut tovot." Ravit said. Leah must have made a face or something because Ravit laughed in response. "Good girls." Ravit said.

"They are." Leah agreed. She wasn't sure why Ravit would substitute Hebrew words for English words. Maybe it was romantic sounding to her?

"Alright. We might have an early morning mission. I'd better go take my own shower and get ready for bed." Ravit said.

"I'll be reading until you get back." Leah said. The other woman left and Leah smiled; wished she'd seen Russ that evening, but at least she was able to help Christine.
