Kaz woke up in the morning. He sent his code to Chaotic and prepared for the day. He gazed at his room. He saw the few posters of Perim and Chaor's figure on his shelf. He grumbled as turned towards the window. He put his hand on the curtain and hesitated. The new neighbor he got for a week creeped him out. He hesitated to open it.
Still, it was a nice sunny day and he had to open it up before school. He couldn't let the neighbor scared him. He faced worse last year with the M'arrillian invasions and the thought of losing his friends and family. He overcame this. He was an Underworlder player.
He opened the curtain. The blond-haired man observed him from the window of his own house. He wore a white robe with golden stripes on it. The blue eyes came out of the hood.
"What do you creep want?" he asked. He turned around and left his room. He was certain a cult just moved in.
Chapter 4: The New People
He climbed down the stairs.
"I know they are creeping me out too. Those neighbor are surely trying to form a cult here with the creatures showing up," he heard his mother said over the phone.
She was a Caucasian woman with short red hair and green eyes. She wore a white blouse with black pants. She sighed, "I know the police can't do anything. They aren't illegal. I asked Annette in the matter. She told me they are investigating about the group, but I should expect they couldn't do a lot. Yeah. Maybe they might need someone to watch over them. Yes. Annette did tell me that maybe a creature will come for their protection," she went on, before she ended the call.
"Hi mom."
"Hi Kaz," she replied with a bit of a worried smile, "You heard me?"
"Yeah," he went to prepare his breakfast, "Today is the day of the interview?" he curiously asked.
"Yeah. If I manage to get the job, it is well paid. Maybe I can just have one job and more time to spend at home," Cassandra replied. She gazed at the window at the front, "Really wish we didn't have a cult coming here."
"Yeah. After the M'arrillians came, I never thought this would happen," he went to prepare his toasts, "Got to go to school soon," he put butter. He sighed, "They are more at school."
"Are they causing any trouble?"
"No. They are just watching us. The others at school notice this and they are nervous. Worried for us," he admitted.
"The invasion really make people worried for others instead of being bullies or teasing."
"Getting mind controlled did something weirdly positive," Kaz admitted, before he munched his breakfast, "What is the job?"
"I'll be helping Alexandre with the creature. Annette thinks I'm qualified for that. I can't say no. Avoiding problems with the creatures is important. I know my way around too," she let out a small smile. She took a deep breath. She grabbed a picture with her husband, "Kaz is a man," she whispered.
Her son heard her. He knew it was since the invasion that she saw him as a man. A man who was still below 18. Couldn't deny after everything they had been through.
Once he finished eating, he grabbed his bag, "Bye mom!"
"Bye Kaz," she replied. She went to prepare herself for the interview.
Kaz walked the street and ignored the strange man who gazed at him. His distracted himself as he thought of his father. He knew his dad would be proud. He could face dangerous creatures and fight to protect his mom. He wished he was still with them.
When he thought about Rothar, it still pissed him off. He did cool down and clearly thought about why it pissed him off. He knew it was because he was a creature. All of this was weird. The other thing was that they might forget about his dad, if someone else went to take his place.
"Hi Kaz," Tom said as he greeted him. The two walked together to school.
"Hi," he replied as he glanced behind him.
"They are still doing it?" his best friend asked, knowing full well what the answer was.
"Yeah. I'm getting tired of it. They aren't doing anything illegal. Mom called Annette you know."
"It's getting that bad. Mom knows about it too, but they aren't doing anything illegal. Just really creeping me out. The neighbor too," he went on.
"Yeah. After last year, I think everyone is still nervous too. Especially when they knew they had their mind controlled by the M'arrillians," he sighed as he adjusted his glasses.
Tom frowned, "We should ask one of the new guy."
"Tom?" Kaz was a bit uncertain about that idea.
"I'm tired of being scared about it," he glanced at the red-haired boy resolute, "We will ask them what's going on with them and why they are following us."
"Maybe they are part of a cult."
"A cult that is about us? They aren't really giving attention to the others. I asked Sarah and she said they had someone like them too. Peyton too."
"You think it has something to do with us? Like the creatures still believing we are the guides to the Cothica?" he whispered that part.
"Maybe."
They reached school. They thought back when it was closed because of the invasion. It was hard to believe that it returned to normal. Partially back to normal, they had to correct themselves. The school stood tall and any damaged it had, was long gone. They walked in.
The students wandered around, many showing their Chaotic cards or their scanners. Things changed and many of them, including Tom and his friends, weren't aware of the extent. They knew creatures can visit the Earth and followed the rules of the Earth. Beyond that, no one knew what went on between Perim and their home world.
It was a mystery the four gave up to solve. It would be a long and boring explanation. They had no idea what went on outsider of their country. Visits weren't that frequent from the creatures, but most preferred to come to Summervale, since the two teenagers and guide lived there.
The two boys noticed one of the new students observing them. The new student wore a white shirt and white pants with golden stripes on it. It was an African-American boy with short black hair and brown eyes.
Tom was about to ask something, as he intended to do, when the bell rang and school was about to begin. He decided to ask it when he had the chance. For Kaz, he saw it as a bit of reprieve from the stress of interrogating intimidating people of a cult.
School day went as usual for them. They had to ignore the few glances their new teacher gave them.
Kaz wondered where their usual teacher was. He was gone sick for a while without any warnings or explanation from the director. It was as if someone was under control of the M'arrillians and just… changed things without affecting them and the students. He heard the rumors at school that maybe a few M'arrillians might be around when the new students and teachers came. They all wore white clothes with golden stripes on them. Still, he believed it was a cult that came. Using the opportunity to get new members and spread their cult around. It made a bit more sense than M'arrillian bothering to create something like that. Still, it made it easy to be openly suspicious without being judged. He came back to reality when he heard the teacher spoke.
"Tom. I wish to talk with you after class," the teacher said.
Tom raised his head, "O-okay," he nodded, hiding his nervousness. He wanted to confront one of the new students, not the teacher.
His best friend was immediately worried for him. He knew that something might happened. He had to spy on their conversation from outside. If Tom was in danger, he would come in and would get him out of trouble. He nodded to himself at his improvised plan.
Class ended and the students left except Tom. The black-haired boy looked at his friend who hesitated to leave. A glance for the teacher and he was gone.
"W-what do you want?" Tom nervously asked.
The bald Caucasian teacher gazed at the boy with his blue eyes and let out a small smile, "Do not worry. You are not in trouble. It isn't about class, but something else."
"What is it about?"
"We are getting you nervous by watching you and being around you," the teacher crossed his fingers, "You think we are a cult after all."
He realised that they were spied on. It was just like last year with the men in the car that stalked them. That simple admittance frustrated the boy who raised his voice, "You are stalking us and just looking us like creeps or pedos you know! You all wear the same thing!"
The teacher nodded, "I am sorry if this is creeping you, but we need to keep you under watch. Still, I asked you to stay because Michel and Annette pressured us to tell you more about why we are here."
"Michel and-" Tom said nothing else. They were the director and the second in command of the Chaotic Headquarter as Peyton called it. Personally, it was more like the Chaotic Organisation than a Headquarter, "How do you know them?"
"That is something they can answer," the teacher replied.
The teenager knew that they were aware of Perim and Chaotic. It made sense if they knew about those two. Still, he might be trying to pull a fast one on him, "Why not you?"
"Because you wouldn't believe me. Anyway, I can explain two things to you."
Tom tensed up. He could feel the tension on his neck. He wondered if it might end with him disappearing. Kaz was certain they were a cult and he thought the same way. They all wore the same kind of clothes and had their eyes on them, "What is it?"
"We are observing you and your friends because of everything that happened with the creatures of Perim and here," the teacher explained. He crossed his fingers together, "We are mostly keeping an eye on you because you got our attention."
"Who are you?"
"We have no reason to disclose this information," the adult replied in a way that meant that he shouldn't ask about who they were.
"Okay."
"Sorry for being a bit harsh. Anyway, we are interested in you because the creatures chose you as the guide to the Cothica," he answered.
Tom guessed that Remi might be under their gaze, as he was a guide too.
"Why me?"
"I do not really know myself why," the teacher admitted.
The black-haired boy had a feeling that there might be rank like his father at the military. He didn't like this at all. It pretty much confirmed they were a cult and had links with Michel and Annette. He was nervous.
"This is pretty much all I can tell you."
"T-this is just one thing."
"No. It's two. We are keeping you under watch and because you are considered the guide to the Cothica," he stood up, "It's also what I know in the matter honestly," he let out a nervous smile, "I know we are creeping you out. I will have a talk with the others. However, I have one question."
"What is it?"
"Have you ever met creatures in Perim that… don't fit Perim at all?" the teacher asked.
"No…" he replied uncertain. He saw creatures made out of the elements, not flesh and blood. They met Tera Motus, the creature of rock and ice. Those creatures were also seen with the other tribes.
"I won't keep you up any longer. This is all I can say," he then opened the door.
Kaz was near it and acted as if he didn't spy on them. He heard everything, "Finally."
Tom left the classroom and followed his best friend.
"Are you okay Tom? He didn't try anything?" his best friend asked nervously.
"I'm fine. He said that he watches us because we are the guide to the Cothica," he sighed.
"Great. More trouble," he sighed.
"He also asked something weird."
"What?"
"He asked if we met a creature that… didn't fit Perim. I have no idea what he means by that," he raised his shoulders.
"None either. Maybe he is trying to push us the wrong way," he raised his shoulders a bit.
"But I'm sure they are a cult. They have someone higher than them. The teacher doesn't really know why they are watching us," he quietly said when he noticed they were a bit too close to the other students.
"Dammit. Dammit all," he grumbled.
"We need to figure this out," Tom decided.
"Yeah. I need to tell Chaor about this."
"And me Maxxor."
They checked their scanners. None of them had a bit that someone should port out. They got a message. They checked it.
"My code self disappeared," Kaz paled.
"And ours is searching for you in Perim," Tom replied.
AC: This is the end of this chapter.
