He wasn't exactly a beach person, nor liked skipping routines, but they decided to forgo tradition while they were here. It wasn't going public, but be comfortable with it. That Stephanie's problem's were hers. He truly knew nothing of his ex or her family's dealings.
They both received word that both of there positions were secure with TKO, and to take their time coming back fully into the office. He didn't know how much she set up on the media side of things since she was down here until today. He was watching some footage of indie wrestlers but heard her pacing and talking on the phone with Cody Rhodes and Nick about his adjusting his presence in the media world.
"I don't know how long you'll have Tik Tok for, but I have my clock team who can move your videos over to either the company's You Tube or your personal one. You can decide that, and let me know".
Paul made his way over to watch her in action. A sport media agency wouldn't be a bad idea. She would great at making these athletes see that image is just as important as the talent. Maybe down the road.
"Yeah, let's do a lunch to go over ideas, and discuss. I'll be back in the office next week…yes I'll tell him you said hi". She said ending the call. Jumping at him watching her, he laughed at her reaction.
"You gotta stop scaring me like that".
"It's because you are in a zone when you work. It's so easy to do".
"Kiss my ass".
"Tonight. Right now, I want to go explore more of the island".
"Really? Alright, we can go out, I mean it is lunch time".
"We'll go by the store".
She frowned at the comment. Yeah she should cook for herself, but did she really want to…
"Ree, for a woman who is frugal, you sure like to throw money away to take out food", he said grabbing his jacket.
"Don't judge me. It's not the cooking. It's the cleaning".
"Then I'll do the dishes. We split this, we remember?"
"Right. Right. Split things", she said more to herself.
She didn't know, he had a ring in his pocket. It was time, even if it meant a long engagement, it was time to ask.
"Dad, she needs that ring".
"I know, I just didn't think it was right time".
"Is there ever a right time", Aurora mocked him.
"I hate giving you advice. Bites me in the ass later. Why are you so pressed on this anyway?"
"Because, she loves you. Just as much as do".
"Do you say this to you mother?"
"I did before I left".
He stopped texting and sat with the message. These three see more than he thought. He was always worried about a divorce but realized they knew it was over before he and Stephanie did. That heart attack changed the dynamics of everything. Kamaria broke his thoughts.
"Hey, c'mon slow mo. My favorite vendor will be there only for another two hours".
"I'm coming, I'm not the one changing my purse everyday".
They made their way to a secluded area of the island. Just a wooden bench, beach and ocean. They watched as two kids played in the sand, and he watched her grin at these play and laugh. It was peaceful, and it was what she wanted. She also had to come to terms with that the minute they left here, it would end because of who they were.
"We have to try to maintain this", she said watching them.
"The quiet and calm. I know. I like to think we can, as long as we let no one else in".
"Fair, but our work and schedules…."
"Nope. We have to Ree. We don't have a choice".
"I agree".
He took her hand, and slid the ring on her hand. She was stunned. She took her glasses off, and he smirked at her.
"You planned all this didn't you. Are these hired child actors too?"
"No no. They were just here", he chuckled.
"You are serious?"
"As a heart attack".
"Aye, not funny!"
"Ok ok. A wise person told me the timing is never right, but you go with what you feel. I feel like I'm ready to live my life, and I want you to join me doing that. Good, bad, ugly, loud snores, and laundry days. All of it. So what do you say. Wanna get married?"
She was crying at this point, "Yeah you corny old man".
"Let's go back to the apartment. We have to celebrate. You aren't going to be one of those bridezillas, right".
She stood up and confidently said, "No, I have a notebook ready. I know what I want, we just gotta show up".
They stood on the balcony, dressed in one of his shirts drinking water and he came up behind her hugging her around her waist, and she just grinned at the gesture. Never in a million years did she think they would be in this moment.
"Regrets?"
"Not one".
"I hope the girls know I don't know what I'm doing half the time".
"Well, either do we, but I like to think Steph and I do a decent job".
She turned around to face him because it was an elephant in their paradise that needed to be addressed.
"I want you to be straight with me", she said.
"Always".
"Do you think she's going to jail and are you guys going to talk to the kids about it?"
He looked out over the balcony. It was something he was avoiding for the time being. He got daily updates from the lawyer they went in on. Bobby and Paul were determined to make sure she didn't do any jail time, but as more of the evidence came out he began to wonder if he ever knew her at all.
"Ree, I don't know. I don't want her to go because she rebuilding like we are. Bobby and her seem like they are in a great place. He's a solid dude, one that I trust with the girls. Asking him to carry that professionally and personally is a lot. I can walk a away and focus on the girls. He's taking a huge risk. It's also why I gave him his request to leave to be a free agent. We are trying to navigate this as best as we can, and the advice legal is giving to her is she needs to lay low. I can't see her being that person, but I'm bias towards her. I'm trying to take it day to day. As for the girls, the only one I'm worried about is Aurora since she's at college. The younger two are in private school, so they are shielded from it all. Aurora told us she's ok but I feel like she maybe just saying that".
"I like to think that if things were that bad, she's talk to you or Steph at least".
"Steph told her not to talk to Vince or Linda about it, and I have to agree with that. Otherwise, I'm not going to focus on it. The lawyers are there for a reason. I have bigger fish to fry".
"Like?"
"We got Dwayne back on the board, and when we get back announcing Shawn taking over NXT. We have plans of getting more indie wrestlers involved. Like crossing over. I can't let Cody's former boss show us up".
"I don't think that's a problem. As long as you don't go on twitter and go on rage post like he does, you'll be fine. Just be in the moment".
"You prep talk everyone with that line".
"Does it work?"
"I mean…yeah".
"That's your problem. Why so serious. Have some fun. You got a second chance to do so. No point in being a stuffy ass prude" she said dumping water on his head and laughing.
"Oh that's what we are doing?"
She took off running as he chased after her. She meant every word, and honestly it was time for him to loosen up.
