"Come on Toni, let's go!" Samuel shouted at the girl over the phone. "Don't rush me!" She giggled as she opened the door to exit her house. She looked at the car that was filled with the crazy teens. Dominic waved at her from the driver's side and Samuel came out to greet her. He gave her a quick squeeze, kissing her on the cheek opening the back door for her. She was packed in the back with Seymour and Angelita, who were excited to see her. The girl wanted to sit next to Antonia on the way to the movies so they could talk about their week. "Oh, by the way, we are going to my parent's house so I can pick up a few things." Samuel turned around in his seat to talk to his friends as they drove to Angelita's house. They have been waiting to see the new horror movie that was out. "Have you guys noticed that they have been making a lot of really good horror movies recently? Like since the school year started, they have all been really awesome." Seymour looked at his friends intensely to see their responses, "Yeah, I have a list of movies I want to see this year! There's this one movie too that is about demons or vampires. I saw the trailer the other day, but I can't remember what it was called…" Antonia took out her phone to see her list. "Oh, that Twilight movie?" Samuel sarcastically added to the conversation, and they laughed. Antonia rolled her eyes, giving him a smile, "No not that, love. It was some other movie." Samuel turned back to answer her when he was interrupted by Angelita, "We're here!" They parked in front of a small yellow house with lots of broken machines in the yard. Antonia opened the door and got out, staring blankly at the other houses down the street. Angelita softly grabbed onto her arm, "You should go inside with me." Antonia hesitated but agreed.
The front porch was unaligned as weeds burst through the cracks of the planks. There were many empty jars and old planters sitting by the door. Antonia's feet felt heavy as her friend jingled the keys to get inside. When Angelita finally opened the door, Antonia was shocked by what she saw. The house was very messy, dark inside with little lights turned on, and music playing from the other side of the house. Stacks of papers were everywhere, the TV was blasting, and it smelled like incense. Angelita walked down the short hallway and saw her mother. A chubby blonde woman was washing the dishes, slowing coming to a stop as she heard them walk in. She wiped her hands on the towel to lower the volume on the radio, "Hi mami. What are you doing here?" Angelita didn't turn to face her and continued walking, "I just needed to grab something." The TV grew louder as they went past the living room, Antonia felt uncomfortable as she wasn't being introduced. She smiled at the lady and followed behind Angelita. She looked over to see that Angelita's dad was asleep on the couch, with a drink in his grasp. "This is my room," Angelita opened her door and went in. Antonia stood by the doorway, noticing that it was the only space in the house that was relatively neat. It however did not look like the average room a teenage girl would have. It was baby blue, with an accent wallpaper, adorned with bows, and a white bed. She lifted a wood plank from the floor, revealing a shoe box. She took the top off and began putting the contents in her backpack. She shoved in a wad of cash wrapped in a scrunchie, a hand pipe, and a small pink coin purse. Antonia got nervous seeing the girl put the items away and looked out to the hallway again. On the other side was a painting of the Virgin Mary as it glowed surrounded by candles and flowers. She was captivated by the display and found herself being pulled closer to it. Angelita got up from the floor and went over to the window. She slightly opened the blinds to let light in and unlocked the hook to the window's slide. She finally took a small plushie from the vanity before shutting the door. "Let's go." As they approached the door, Angelita's mother walked up to the girls, "I have some leftovers from yesterday. Do you want any?" "No ma' I'm going to eat with my friends." She softly smiled, "I meant for later." Antonia looked at her returning the expression while Angelita showed no kindness, "I don't want anything. I'll see you later." She turned and opened the door for the goth. After walking out, she locked the house and smiled at Antonia. She walked back to the car and the two were inside.
"I hope that wasn't weird for you," Angelita looked at her as Antonia was facing the window. "No, it was fine. I didn't have a problem." She softly responded, knowing she wasn't telling the truth. Antonia thought it was odd that her parents lived in what she had thought was filth. The floors were slightly sticky, the walls were all stained, and the house a dense gloomy cloud that seemed to be in every room but Angelita's. It was even more awkward when she saw Angelita's father passed out drunk on the couch. "My parents and I don't really have a good relationship so now I live with my grandma. They um... fight a lot so I got tired of it and left. But I basically live with Dominic at this point. I'm always staying at his place." Antonia gave a soft giggle but the ideas didn't leave her. Angelita then pulled out some items from her bag. The car then smelled strong causing the others to begin to make noises. She pulled out the pipe and Seymour went wild, "Ooh girl, you know sharing is caring?" He cackled, Dominic looked at her from the rear-view mirror and smiled. Samuel raised an eyebrow as he smirked at the sight but then he noticed Antonia's expression. Angelita took out a lighter from her backpack, "You want some?" The goth's eye went large as she was offered to partake in action. "Um… I don't do that…" "You've tried it?" Seymour looked at her with a grin, he took out a small green cluster from a clear Ziploc bag. "Uh.. A-Are you going to do that right now? Like... Like in the car?" The girl began panicking seeing Seymour opening the bag. First she entered a house uninvited and not introduced, then was going to get tagged along in a hot box situation. She was certainly in for it today. "You can just watch if you want to," Seymour smiled and her as he helped Angelita clean the pipe with a paper towel. Dominic then reached back to poke her knee and waved to stop. "No, Seymour. She's clearly uncomfortable," Samuel looked at Antonia whose face went pale. She didn't know what to say at the moment. This was something she hadn't dealt with before. Of course, some of her other friends at her other school talked about doing if before but never in front of others. The two calmly put away their items and chatted quietly.
The group waited in the parking lot until it was showing time. Everyone was poking fun at Angelita in the moment that she kept reaching to touch Dominic calling her mushy. It lasted a while as Seymour provided insight from years before, "I remember one time in middle school, Angelita scraped her elbow really bad because she was sneaking out." "Oh my god, shut up," She glared at the goofy teen and her kept adding on to the story. Dominic's face turned red as Seymour began explaining that everyone knew that she would go over to his house and hangout. The troubled girl kept looking at her phone then shouted, "Okay! That's enough of my life. Let's go." Samuel got out the car and opened the door for Antonia. While the others went back and forth about their middle school stories, the punk held on to her arm, noticing she was looking at the ground. "Are you okay? You look tense." He could tell she was acting a bit off. She glanced at him and smiled weakly, "Yeah I'm fine." Samuel gently closed the door and wrapped his arm around her shoulder, leaning in to whisper, "You know you can tell me anything." Her heart began to beat fast as their faces were close to one another. "I know," she gently cupped his face, kissing him on cheek. Antonia held his hand as they walked to the entrance of the movie theater. After getting their tickets, Antonia thought about what she wanted to get. Samuel looked at the boxes of candy and sneered, "No way, it costs this much." He looked at the sign above the popcorn machine to see how expensive the bags were. "Are you bloody kidding me? It's fivedollars for a bag the little shits now." He mumbled to himself about how expensive the movies had become but his thoughts were interrupted when Antonia gently poked him. "Look how silly the popcorn buckets are," she giggled looking at the items displayed next the cash register. Odd faces were displayed behind the glass cabinets and he lightly smiled at the items. "It that what you're getting, love?" She held on to a bottle of orange soda and some licorice. "Yeah, this is all I want right now. Are you getting anything, Sam?" He looked over the drink fridge and grabbed a Monster, "This will do." After adding a pretzel to their purchase, they were ready to go to inside the theater. "SAM!" The boy turned to see Seymour practically jumping up and down. "We're having a guitar hero competition when the movie is over." The punk laughed and rolled his eyes, "I'm kicking your arse."
