(First Part: "SGC Mission Report Files 1-1 – Make me Crash")
"Carter!"
Blasts rang through the gate room, leaving black burns on the concrete walls where they hit. It was deafening for their ears. Smoke covered almost the whole room.
Through the gate new enemy soldiers arrived. Immediately combat began. Staff weapons blasts, followed by the clicking ringing of the P90s. Men where screaming.
It was all over chaos.
And General Hammond heard everything from above. He couldn't only listen because the safety shut was down to shield the control room.
However they couldn't close the iris.
Major Carter was still not through.
"Carter, come through damn'it!" Jack shouted in his radio yet again. Next to him Teal'c chose the exact moment to fire his staff weapon. A Jaffa warrior fell down with his last cry ever heard from him. This action was answered with a counter attack and they had to take cover behind the defensive shields of the gate room.
"Negative, sir!" Carter was also shouting in her radio. She sounded out of breath.
"Carter, we are under heavy fire here, we can't keep the gate open forever!" Jack screamed back to her and felt his nervousness rise by a thousand times. Why wasn't she coming?
"I can't make it through, there are too many guards at the gate" finally came her answer.
Jack swallowed hard. All sounds around him started to fade. He didn't even hear the desperate scream of Daniel when he was forced to drop his P90 and reached for his pistol. He was out of ammo. "Jack!" he screamed.
But Jack didn't react. He felt like in a tunnel. Everything around him felt like he was stuck in a slow motion. He could only feel his heart beat.
Why was he always failing her?
"Jack!"
Why in God's name?!
"Jack!"
The third time brought him finally back to reality. The slow motion stopped in an instance and he was hit hard by the reality of the fierce battle around him. He needed to make a decision, but his hand was shaking so much. Why was it shaking so much?
When he saw Jack didn't react it was finally Daniel that made the decision for all of them.
"Close the iris!" he screamed from the top of his lungs into his radio.
"Closing iris" came the confirmation from Walter through the gate room speakers.
With panic he saw the iris closing.
Sam!
They had to leave it open for her! How was she now supposed to come through? To come back to them?
But on the same time Jack felt relieved for now the constant flow of enemies finally stopped. Almost immediately the sickening bangs of people crashing into their iris started to pop up. A sound he never liked.
With uprising panic he grabbed for his radio yet again. "Carter, the iris is closed!"
His hands started to shake anew. Hopefully it wasn't too late. Hopefully one of the bangs wasn't - ! He couldn't even think of ending the sentence.
"Understood."
Finally the gate room became silent again. It felt strange. Empty.
A great wave of relieve washed over him, just because he was hearing her voice. And it was this moment he actually realized he was holding his breath the whole time altogether.
"Cater, how's your status?" he asked. He tried to hide the trembling of his voice but wasn't sure he managed.
"I'm currently under hiding", she stated. Jack's worry grew. "The gate is heavenly guarded and I see no possibility to reach it without being shot."
As the fighting had started to fade away Teal'c and Daniel began to follow the conversation with uprising uneasiness as well. Daniel looked extremely exhausted, still a hint of fear was written over his face. Teal'c was stoic as ever but his tense body language spoke otherwise.
He heard the safety shut clicking behind him just before it began to rise. In the silence the noise seemed disturbing. However it got rid of the feeling of emptiness.
To the sound of the safety shut came the one of the door. With broad and heavy steps General Hammond made his way to them.
"Colonel, what's going on here?" he demanded with a firm yet worried voice. He looked most disturbed by the fact that SG-1 made it through except for Major Carter.
Jack however chose to ignore him for now. His head was racing with possible scenarios to reach Carter and safe her.
He couldn't fail her! He wasn't allowed to fail her yet again!
"Carter, are you safe at your position right now?" he asked her. He couldn't come up with a solution right now so he was to make sure she wasn't in any apparent danger right now. This would give them some time to think about something.
"Right now I'm fine, sir" she answered. Great news!
"Alright, Carter, stay put. We will think of something and get you out of there."
"Understood, sir. I will – !"
A small scream from her.
Then the line was dead.
"Carter!"
Nothing.
"Carter, respond!"
Nothing.
"Sam!"
Still nothing.
With a mixture of frustration, anger and sadness Jack threw the radio against the wall. Daniel flinched when it shattered into pieces.
While leaving the gate room with aggressive steps he smashed his cap on the floor as well with full force. Again Daniel flinched. Not because of the sound but because of the emotion that literally had hit the floor right now.
Behind him General Hammond straightened himself. "Gentleman, can anybody please tell me what is happening here right now? Where is Major Carter?"
"Fuck!" Jack screamed in frustration. Again Daniel flinched.
He had failed her. Yet again.
