(Skipping to the almost end of the first book as my drafts were erased and, apologies, I don't have it in me to rewrite all that...So we'll go to just after Harry defeated Quirrell!)

WILL WAITED BETWEEN both Harry and Freya's bedside as he did his homework to calm himself down, all of the teachers had left quickly after finding the stone in Harry's robe pocket.

"Stay here Mr. Granger." Dumbledore had said to him kindly before they had left, "We have work to do."

Will was admittedly more curious than worried about Harry's condition because other than being knocked seemingly unconscious, Harry seemed just fine.

I shouldn't have left him regardless, he thought closing his book, unable to study for the first time in his life as he fretted over the condition of his friends.I should have...

Should havewhat?

Don't be stupid, Will, hechastised himself as he looked away from Harry to Freya who was sleeping as well, a slight trail of blood dried on her forehead from where the chess piece had struck her, she needed you. And you and Harry need her.

Not only had Freya known how to win the chess game that both he and Harry had been clueless about, but she had also sacrificed herself in a big way to stop, who they had thought was Snape, from getting the stone, and it was one of the bravest things Will had ever witnessed. Even as Harry and Will had both screamed at her to not allow it, she had done as she always did when it came to them...Will smiled to himself, she hadn't listened. As she did so she wore the same expression that she wore whenever she argued with Will or was mad at Malfoy and even sometimes with Harry, that same defiantly stubborn expression that told anybody looking on that she would do what she thought was right.

Not only that but she had saved them again, the first time, when she had yelled Will out of his fearful stupor and despite the situation, Will laughed a bit now, remembering how slightly deranged she seemed as she yelled at him whether he was a wizard or not when he had declared in hysterics they had had no fire.

Turning back to Harry he remembered what he had told Harry, just before Harry set off to go face the nightmare of the wizarding world himself. "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things – friendship and bravery and – oh Harry – be careful!"

Will looked at his two best friends in the world, each with their eyes closed as they laid on their cots, in the infirmary as the ending effect of doing things to save the wizarding world, to save themselves, to save him.

And what had I done? Solved a simple riddle.

As soon as the thought crossed his mind, he could already hear his friends yelling at him at his conclusion.

I wouldn't have gotten in without you,Harry would have retorted, angry on his behalf.

He really wouldn't have!Freya would insist, eyes wide as she ruffled Harry's hair, still looking at Will. You've seen how he does on his homework! We can't trust him with using his head, he's all hair, this one!

And Will would laugh as Harry would surely turn to look at her with an expression only Freya could get him to make.

Getting up, Will took Harry's glasses off and set them on the drawer neatly, and then brushing Freya's hair away from her face he wiped the blood from her forehead and laid their blankets nicely on top of them before sitting down again to wait for them to wake up.

If I don't learn another bloody thing in the world, let me at least know a thing or two about friendship and bravery. If these two can't teach me another darn thing, they can at least teach me that.
