Demon's Daughter: Love Across the Divide

Chapter 27

Dad Beat Dad Pt. 2

~Gwen's POV~

With a deadline of one hour, everyone was preparing for dad's arrival. The place was cleaned, treats were baked, and a banner was hung over the front doors, albeit with misspelled words. It didn't matter; dad wouldn't notice upon entering. That wasn't what had my stomach in knots. My father was on his way, he was indeed coming to the hotel. I had not seen or spoken to him in months since I left home. He likely would not be coming if Charlie had not called him out of desperation and her impending deadline.

The thought of him arriving here and seeing me had me worried. He was angry that I took off without him knowing, but I had to leave. I was suffering back there under that constant supervision and those harsh lessons. Now with him coming to the hotel, what am I going to do? I didn't have much time to think, a loud knock on the front door alerted everyone.

Sighing, Charlie said, "Okay everyone, it's showtime!" as she opened the door to reveal her father, who looked excited to see her.

"Charlie!"

"Hello, da-!" Charlie was promptly enveloped in a firm embrace by our father.

"(hugging Charlie) Oh, it's so good to see you. Haha!" He said with glee.

"(strained) It's uh, good to see you too, dad."

As soon as Charlie was released from dad's grip, she took a breather before speaking again. "(clears throat) Welcome, to the Hazbin Hotel!"

I observed two Egg Boiz enthusiastically pop some party poppers as a warm welcome. Meanwhile, I stayed back to avoid being easily noticed by my father. Observing KeeKee rub against dad's leg, making him coo at her cuteness and kneel down to rub her head.

"Oh, hello KeeKee!"

Razzle and Dazzle flew up to greet dad next.

"Razzle, Dazzle. Oh, look how much you haven't grown. Still fun sized. (laughing) You taking care of my wittle girls? (voice changes to a deep ominous threatening tone) You better be. (snickers) Wow! This place sure looks, uh... uh huh yah uh huh... It's got a lot of character!"

I watched dad's eyes turn towards the bar in the corner and he was immediately repulsed by it.

"Yeah...lot of character...Oh, what in the unholy hell is that?!"

At that moment, Alastor emerged behind father utilizing his shadow abilities.

"Just some of the renovations we had done. Adds a bit of color, don't you think?"

This took my dad by surprise, "And you are?"

"Alastor, pleasure to be meeting you, sir. Quite a pleasure. It's nice to finally put a face to the name. You're much shorter in real life." Alastor made a hand gesture indicating the height difference between dad and Charlie.

"Who is this? Are you the bellhop?" asked Dad.

"Aha! No! I'm the host of the hotel. You might have heard me from my radio broadcast."

"Hmm, nope! I guess that's why Charlie called it the Has-been Hotel, ahaha."

"Ha ha ha. It was actually my idea."

"Ahaha. Well, it's not very clever."

"(Strained) Ha ha! Fuck you."

"Okay! Okay! (Gets in between the two) Anyway, dad, look at this lovely parlor where people can get to know each other and share secrets and stories and intimate feelings! Without Alastor, we wouldn't have been able to pretty it up this much." Charlie explained.

"Charlie as a unique vision. I'm happy to fulfill her bizarre requests." says Alastor who places a hand on Charlie's shoulder, much to Lucifer's dismay. He did not appreciate the closeness between the two.

"Oh, thank you, Alastor."

"Quiet an impressive young lady. We're all proud of her." says Alastor.

"Ahem, Charlie! Dear, eheh, why don't you introduce me to your other friends." says dad, wanting to change the subject and move on. Pointing his staff at the others who stood by the table full of refreshments.

"Oh, yes, of course." says Charlie, pulling Vaggie over. "This is Vaggie, she's, my girlfriend."

Judging by the expression on father's face, he appeared astonished upon hearing this. I surmise he assumed Charlie was interested in Alastor based on what I was observing.

"Oh, my golly! You like girls? So do I!"

"Oh brother," I say to myself, shaking my head and letting out a low groan.

"We have so much in common! Put it there Maggie! Hey! (hugs her) Oh yeah, she's so pretty."

"Lovely to meet you, uh, sir." says Vaggie sheepishly.

"And this is Sir Pentious and Angel Dust, our guests!"

When Pentious heard his name called, he stands at attention saluting to my dad.

"Your majesty!"

He lost his balance and fell into a plate of cookies in front of him. Angel picked one up and spoke.

"Heya short king."

"Husk is our bartender, and Nifty is our housekeeper."

"Nice to meet you."

I could tell Nifty was excited as she scurried towards my dad, launching herself onto his coat.

"Hello. I clean. (laughs)"

"Uh, hey there..."

It was evident that my father was unsettled by Nifty. I cannot fault him for that. Nifty possesses an unusual and twisted sense of humor that disturbed everyone. After managing to remove Nifty from his coat, father glanced around the room as though searching for something or someone.

"Wait, if he's looking for someone that can only mean one thing...uh oh."

"Charlie, where's your sister? Where's Gwen?"

Slowly, ever so slowly, I walked backward towards the kitchen door. If could remain low and out of sight, I would be safe for a while. That was the plan, but thanks to a certain annoying crazed lunatic named Nifty calling me out, I was spotted instantly by my father.

"Gwen? Gwen!" My father cried out.

"Shit..." I mumbled, looking in his direction. "Hey da-"

In an instant, my father was beside me, enveloping me in a firm bear hug. It was likely the same embrace he gave Charlie, making me understand her discomfort.

"Oh Gwen, my dear apple dumpling! I have you in my arms again my dear, sweetheart! How I've missed you terribly!"

He continued to squeeze me in what was supposed to be a loving fatherly hug, unaware that he was squeezing the life out of me. I tried to speak, but no words came out. If it hadn't been for Charlie stepping in to separate Dad and me, I would have passed out.

"Apologies, was that excessive?" inquired dad.

"Indeed, it was excessive." I responded.

"I apologize, Gwen. It has a considerable amount of time since we last saw each other. The palace feels quite empty in your absence." I can tell he is attempting to flatter me. "Your mother frequently inquiries about your return, and I am unable to provide her with a definitive answer."

Is he truly attempting to make me feel guilty?

"I understand your intentions, dad but they won't work. Furthermore, I spoke with mother last week, and she seemed perfectly fine."

"Ah, your mother is always resilient, a brave face facade in times of trouble. (loving sigh) Ah, she's a wonderful woman. One of the many reasons why I married her."

Sometimes I forget that if I want my father to stop discussing something upsets me, I only need to mention my mother. He will then start talking about her for hours until someone intervenes. Speaking of intervening, Charlie came over giving dad a gentle shake on the shoulder.

"Uh, dad, hello?"

It took dad a moment to collect his thoughts and return to reality. "Huh? Oh, right, the hotel...that...right."

Releasing a soft sigh, I declined to listen to any more of his falsehoods. Although I loved my father, it was evident that he was not interested in Charlie's mission and simply wanted me to return home.

"Charlie, you have an interesting concept here, but I am not certain about its potential success."

There he goes again, dismissing Charlie's ideas as pointless.

"Look I know the place requires some improvements, but we have all been diligently working. Progress is just somewhat...slow. That's why I'm hoping you could help out." Charlie explained. "If you could get us a meeting with Heaven, I'm sure the hotel could grow stronger and better."

"Look, Charlie, it's a tempting offer, but I can't say for sure that it'll work. Maybe you should keep going at the speed you're at right now? I mean, nothing's fallen apart."

Before another word could be spoken, the chandelier above us gave way, crashing down in front of everyone and creating a huge cloud of dust that surrounded us. We coughed incessantly until the dust settled. I am unsure how that happened or could have happened. Then I heard my father speak.

"Heh, alright then."
