Episode 5: The Heart Wants What It Wants

RING! RING! RING! RING! RING!

The collection of sounds echoed straight into Kameron's ears. His eyes began to twitch with small moans exiting his mouth. Slowly, his eyes began to open themselves up with his vision blurry before it started to clear up. Lifting himself up he turned his head to the source of the rhythmic sounds. Reaching his hand out he grabbed his phone and immediately shut off his alarm. Putting his phone down Kameron let out a yawn while stretching his arms out and getting out of bed.

Grabbing some fresh clothes he walked out of his room and traversed straight toward the bathroom.

FLICK

Flipping the switch as he walked inside, Kameron placed his clothes on the sink and began to undress himself. Stepping into the tub he grabbed onto the water facets and turned them, making the water come out. The shower head soon blasted an array of water right on top of his head. Moans exited Kameron's mouth as the water started pouring itself onto his body. A small sigh left Kameron as he raised his hands onto his head. His fingers coursed themselves through his scalp as they traveled from the top of his head to the back.

Opening his eyes Kameron turned his head and grabbed a shampoo bottle. Opening it he turned the bottle upside-down, pouring it into his free hand before putting the bottle down and placing the shampoo-covered hand onto his head and hair.

Closing his eyes once-more, Kameron dug his nails straight into his scalp. As he rubbed his hands across his head his eyes began to narrow. They narrowed themselves tightly as he gritted his teeth. Slowly he stopped scrubbing his head and let his nails dig even deeper than he normally should.

But... Kameron slowly retracted his nails' pressure and continued scrubbing his head.

'Let it go. Just...let it go. Get over it.' Kameron thought to himself.

Turning the water off, Kameron stepped out of the tub and grabbed a towel nearby. Drying himself off he locked his eyes onto the stack of clothes and began dressing himself.

Fully clothed, Kameron turned his eyes onto his toothbrush and took it out of his jar before grabbing some toothpaste.

*Knock Knock*

Right when Kameron was about to apply toothpaste onto his toothbrush, his ears picked up the knocking, making him turn his head to the door.

"Come in." Kameron announced.

The bathroom door opened up and on the other side were his siblings. One after the other his brothers and sisters stepped in, but Kameron turned his head away from them as he applied the toothpaste onto his brush and brought it close to his teeth.

Each of the siblings stood side by side, facing the large mirror in front of them. Raising their hands out, they each grabbed their own individual brushes and added on some toothpaste before bringing it up to their own teeth. Neither sibling spoke a word as they locked their eyes on the mirror while moving their brushes back and forth in their mouths. The only sounds in the bathroom was the fan, brushes spreading onto teeth, and the sound of water coming out of the sinks.

Lowering his head Kameron spat out his toothpaste before cupping his hand under the sink water and bringing it up to his mouth. Slurping the water, Kameron soon spat it out and started rinsing his brush.

"Kameron." Azurite said, gaining his attention. "May we talk?"

Kameron turned off his sink, but continued looking at his reflection in the mirror. "What about?"

Azurite turned her eyes to her little brother. "We understand what troubles you, dearest brother. Although it is unfair, that does not mean that you cannot continue what we are doing."

Lowering his head from his reflection Kameron planted his eyes onto the sink. Closing his eyes for a moment Kameron slowly re-opened them as he lifted his head to his reflection and siblings. Putting his brush back into his jar, Kameron turned around and started walking away. However, his body soon stopped in it's tracks. Turning his head he saw his arm in a grip and seeing the hand belong to Lepidolite.

"Little brother. I know you want to help too. We all know that." Lepidolite said softly. "Remember, you're not just a Gem. You're Human too."

The atmosphere soon went silent. Lepidolite's words were genuine and true. So were Azurite's. But...as Kameron stood like a statue he soon ripped his arm away from his sister.

"I get it." Kameron said firmly. "I gotta focus more on attending school." He then turned his head to his siblings, narrowing his eyes. "If that's all that you guys wanted from me, then I never should've asked to become a Rainbow Gem in the first place."

Turning his head to the door, Kameron opened it up and slammed it on his way out.

The lights in the bathroom soon began to flicker, making them become dimmer and dimmer with each second passing. Amber placed her toothbrush down as she turned her eyes onto the closed door. Her eyes narrowed at the sudden actions Kameron had just enacted. Turning her whole body she soon began to march right up to the door, but as she march her movements were soon halted. Turning her head she saw Pyrope glaring at her with his hand gripping her arm.

"Let go ah me, Pyrope." Amber said angerly.

"Let him cool off." Pyrope replied angerly.

Amber scoffed and ripped her arm from her brother's grasp.

"He just wants to help." Charoite said. "His heart is in the right place, but...he's still young."

"Should we give him some space?" Citrine asked.

"For now, we should." Onyx replied. "Although, we are going to have to discuss this matter again."

The rest of the siblings agreed to that. There was no doubt in either of them that this topic was gonna have to be brought up again soon.

RING! RING! RING! RING! RING!

At the sound of the bell going off each student got up from their seats and started packing up their belongings.

Near the back of the classroom Elizabeth Diaz grabbed her belongings and started putting them into her bag. Her lips curved upwards as she placed her last textbook into the bag before closing it up completely. Raising herself from her desk she picked up her bag and hurled it around her body, putting the single strap onto her shoulder and putting her hand on it underneath it.

Turning her head she locked her eyes onto the entrance of the classroom and pushed her onward. Exiting the classroom she entered right into the hallway filled with a myriad of people coming and going. Step after step she turned her body as she passed each person coming her way. Her eyes quickly turned from one direction to the other, traversing herself among her peers and pushing herself to the side.

Coming right out of the crowds Elizabeth locked her eyes onto a collection of lockers next to her and raised out her hand to one of the doors. Putting in the combination, she unlocked it and opened up the door widely. Lowering her head she opened up her bag and took out a few books before putting them into the locker. Lifting her head her gaze soon fell upon a small mirror at the back of the locker.

Raising up her free hand she placed it onto the side of her head, pushing back some of her hair and putting it behind her ear. A small hum exited her lips the more she looked at her reflection. Closing her eyes she slowly sucked in some air into her nose and exhaled it out of her mouth. Re-opening her eyes she nodded at her reflection and tapped both of her cheeks.

Closing her locker and locking it back, Elizabeth turned herself around and from a distance she spotted a group of girls nearby. Nodding her head again she increased the grip on her bag and made her way to them.

"Excuse me?" Elizabeth called out.

Her voice entered into the ears of girls, making them stop and turn their heads to see Elizabeth walk up to them.

One of the girls' lips curved upwards as she placed a hand on her hip. "Well, well, well. If it ain't the beautiful princess."

Hearing the word "princess," Elizabeth raised an eyebrow while tilting her head to the side. Princess? Why would someone call her that?

"Chelsea, be nice." Angela said, narrowing her eyes at her sister. She then placed her eyes back onto Elizabeth. "Is there something we can help you with, Elizabeth?"

"Umm..." Elizabeth replied, adverting her eyes. Small hums exited her lips as she turned her eyes back onto Angela. "Do... Do you know Kameron Evans?"

The girls turned their heads onto each other at the mentioning of that name. Turning their gaze back onto Elizabeth they each took notice of her cheeks starting to turn red. Stepping up from the group, Scarlet approached her.

"We know him." Scarlet answered. "Is there something you want to know about him?"

Elizabeth nodded.

Brittney couldn't help but squeal and hop up and down in place. Oh... this was so, so getting juicy by the second. Jogging up to Elizabeth she grabbed the girls' hands and raised them up.

"Oh, you have no idea how long Kameron has been wanting to ask you out. He's actually had his eyes on you for a while now." Brittney said excitedly with her pupils turning into diamonds.

A small gasp exited Elizabeth's lips. Her cheeks started to turn even redder than before. The words from Brittney's lips began entering into her ears. Kameron...has had his eyes on her...? He's been wanting to ask her out? Her thoughts started to become jumbled, yet trying to understand this scenario.

Soon a hand reached itself out, grabbing onto Brittney's ear. At the feeling of it Brittney's eyes reverted back to normal before one of her eyes closed as she sucked in some air before getting pulled back.

"OWIE! OWIE! OWIE!" Brittney whined.

"Brittney. That's none of our business." Angela scolded.

Brittney continued whining while Angela narrowed her eyes at her and keeping a firm grip on her ear. Ugh... Honestly, she had no reason to drop such a bomb right onto Elizabeth like that.

Chelsea snickered at the suffering of Brittney before putting her eyes back onto Elizabeth. "Hey, princess. Wanna know where badass is right now?"

Elizabeth looked at Chelsea giving her a smirk as her cheeks began to cool down. Though the words Brittney told her made her bring up a list of questions, the opportunity to talk to Kameron had sent a sudden rhythm playing in her chest. Her lips couldn't help but stretch out into a smile at that. She then gave Chelsea a firm nod.

Making their way through the hallway the girls and Elizabeth made a quick turn to the right, traversing through yet another hallway until they came up to another corner. Turning into it they spotted a large collection of stairs ahead of them.

Walking up to them the girls and Elizabeth raised up their legs and planted them right onto the steps and continued the rhythm as they ascended the staircase. The further they went up the more Elizabeth's chest started unleashing a rhythmic beat. This was what she wanted. The girls in front of her were guiding her to the guy that had asked her out, yet at the same it was also the same guy that had wanted to ask her for a while now. Just the thought of that brought in more questions into her mind, though she'll need to hold to them for the time being.

Soon enough the girls and Elizabeth made it to the very top of the stairs. At the very top there was a single door standing right in front of them with a label placed on it that said: THE ROOF.

"Wait a minute." Angela said, her voice filled with confusion. She then turned her head to her sister. "How do you know Kameron is here?"

Chelsea smirked at Angela. "I have my ways." She then turned her attention onto Elizabeth, "Here ya go, princess. Your knight in shining-armor is on the other side."

Elizabeth slowly approached the door and stopped directly in front of it. The rhythm in her chest increased the more she looked at the knob of the door. There was a chance for her to turn back, but if she did that the the endless things in her mind wouldn't get solved. Not everything in the universe needed an answer to everything around a person, but when hearing and facing an obstacle that makes you curious, then taking that chance can bring ease to your mind.

Narrowing her eyes she reached for the knob and twisted it. Pulling the knob the door soon began to open itself up. A bright light shined itself onto the other side, making Elizabeth shut her eyes before slowly opening them back up.

On the other side of the door there was a largely massive area. Right at the edge of the roof and on it's sides were large metal fences with three sections of barbwire laced at the very top of the fences. Moreso, on both sides of the roof there were two huge trees sporting huge apples growing on them. Several feel away from the door there were three metal benches placed right in front of the fences.

Elizabeth's eyes soon turned to the center bench where her eyes blinked. Sitting on the bench was Kameron, only he had his head lowered onto a sketchpad in his lap and a pencil in his hand. His face showed a neutral expression as he continued tracing his pencil across the pad.

From left to right, Elizabeth took notice of nobody else in the area. It was just Kameron... Only...him. That alone made her want to rethink her actions, not wanting to ruin his solitude, but...also her made her see that this was probably the only time she could do this.

Walking onto the rooftop, Elizabeth closed the door behind her and began making her way up to him. It's now or never.

Right when Kameron lowered his pencil onto his sketchpad a shadow soon covered it, making him stop. Raising up his head his eyes immediately shot open to the person in front of him. His cheeks quickly began to turn red as his head started to get a little hazy. Right here... Right now...stood the one girl that brought an endless rhythm to his chest every single time he looked at her.

"E-Elizabeth?" Kameron stuttered.

"H-hi, Kameron." Elizabeth replied nervously.

"Uh... W-What are you doing here?" Kameron asked.

She swallowed some saliva as she adverted her eyes from him. Her hand on her bag started shaking as she gripped onto it. No... If Kameron worked up the courage to ask her out, then she can work up the courage to talk to him. She's done it before. But now...it was different.

"Can we talk?" Elizabeth replied.

Kameron blinked at her. She wants to talk? Talk about...what exactly? Just wanting to talk to him can leading into an array of several conversations. But...it wasn't a good idea making quick assumptions like this. Whatever she wanted to talk about he wouldn't know what it truly wa until they get right to it.

Kameron soon nodded his head, sending a small wave of relief toward Elizabeth. He agreed to talk to her. That was a good sign. And so with his permission she walked to the bench and turned her body before taking a seat right next to him, taking off her bag in the process.

The atmosphere around the two teenagers became quiet with a small breeze passing through them. They both adverted their eyes from each other. Kameron let out a small groan as he started tapping his sketchpad with the end of his pencil. Elizabeth began twiddling her fingers while biting her lower lip. What the hell was going on? They talked before, in the hallway where they officially first met and they managed to at least hold a small conversation. But...right now was completely different.

Elizabeth slowly turned her head to Kameron. She then opened her mouth, "I... I asked your friends where to find you."

Kameron turned his head to her.

"A girl named Brittney said that you've had your eyes on me for a while now. Is...that true?" Elizabeth asked.

His entire face shortly became as red as a hot chili-pepper. UGH...! Of course Brittney was gonna let that one out after he told her that. She's a leaking basket. You can never trust a leaking basket with anything you tell them and now Elizabeth knows the truth. Adverting his eyes, Kameron lightly gripped onto his sketchpad and pencil in his hands. Great... what was he gonna do now?

A small groan exited Kameron with his grip on his belongings decreasing. The flow of his mind started to pace itself at a much slower rate than earlier. His face and cheeks began to coll themselves down a he took in some air into his mouth and exhaled it back out. Putting his eyes back onto Elizabeth he soon opened his mouth again.

"Yes." Kameron replied wit a nod. "It is true."

A small gasp left Elizabeth.

"You... You caught my attention since Freshman Year. And...there were so many chances I had to just walk up to you and just talk to you, but...I kept making excuses not to." Kameron admitted. "I wasn't stalking you. I promise that that wasn't what I meant when I had my eyes on you. Just...glances here or there, and yet never speaking up. The other day was the first time we truly met and I felt like I was gonna explode. It's stupid. And I'm sorry if I'm weird."

Turning his eyes away from her, Kameron then placed them onto his sketchpad.

With her other hand Elizabeth slowly placed it onto her chest. The rhythm in her chest was brought up again, only slower.

The words Kameron spoke entered through her ears and entered her mind. He...wanted to talk to her ever since Freshman Year? He's been wanting to talk to her for the longest time, and yet he kept his distance and stopped himself from taking that step forward. And as of now he finally did it, but...he's also apologizing for not doing it sooner and calling himself weird.

"I don't think you're weird."

Kameron's head flicked itself up and rapidly turned to Elizabeth with widened eyes.

Her lips curved upwards as their eyes locked onto each others. "I think...it was very brave of you to work up the courage to talk to me as you did. And sure, you've got dual-colored eyes, but I think they're cute."

Kameron blinked at her.

Raising up her hand Elizabeth pushed some of her hair back behind her ear. "Don't be afraid to talk to me if something is on your mind. I'll do the same if something is bothering me too." Stretching her hand out she placed it onto Kameron's, making him drop his pencil. Lifting up his hand she then clasped onto it, intertwining her fingers with his. "I still accept you're offer, Kameron. I'd be happy to go on a date with you."

Small stutters leaked out of Kameron's mouth. Elizabeth was touching his hand. SHE IS GRASPING ONTO HIS HAND AND HOLDING IT INTO HER OWN! OH MY STARS!

This is happening! THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!

Releasing her hand from his, Elizabeth pushed herself up and gripping onto her bag-strap. Turning her body she placed her hand into her pocket and brought out her phone.

"May I have your number?" She asked, sweetly.

Without even making a verbal response, Kameron pulled out his phone and handed it to Elizabeth. With her other hand she took it and looked up his number before putting it into her phone and putting her number into his phone. Once that was taken care of she handed him his phone back.

"I'll text you tonight, okay?"

Kameron nodded right as Elizabeth turned around and started walking back to the roof entrance. As she walked her face turned completely red with small moans leaking out of her mouth.

Watching her leaving Kameron looked down at his phone as his lips curved up. He... He has her number. He totally has Elizabeth Diaz's number stored into his phone, and he did even asked her for it. He should've asked her from the start, but she beat him to the punch.

Exhaling out some air he put his phone back into his pocket before putting his pencil and sketchpad back into his backpack. Pushing himself up he grabbed his backpack and placed it onto himself. However, even though a huge wave of positivity was surging through him right now, his thoughts traced themselves back to the events of this morning.

Gripping onto his straps, he began to head straight for the door.
