Episode 10: Orange Goliath
On Rocky Road in Feast District, a large group of men wearing hardhats gathered around a large empty area. Among those men was Citrine Evans, who too wore a hardhat, only his was a lot larger than the others. On the back of their vests there was a large A at the center with an image of a hammer on the left and a drill on the right. To some, it was just a logo, but to those wearing the vests, it was more than just that.
Turning their heads Citrine and the men took notice of another man walking up to them from the side. The man himself was large, though not as big as Citrine, with black hair in the shape of a mohawk, brown-eyes, a black mustache with a heavy-beard. The man wore a black and red suit with a black-tie and a small red star at the bottom, and black dress-shoes. Although...the suit the man wore was very tight, barely being able to contain his own muscular build.
The large man stopped in front of Citrine and the rest of the men. Turning his body the man placed his hands behind his back and narrowed his eyes at them.
"Men." The man said with a Russian accent. "I, Zane Dragunov, heir to Atlas Demolition and Construction am happy to be here. Today, we build. We make great building for client and new home in City. Understand?"
"Yes, sir." The group of men and Citrine replied strongly.
Dragunov smirked and placed his hands on his hips. Raising up his head he started to laugh, "HA! HA! HA! That's what I like to hear. Now my brothers," He said, pulling out a hardhat and putting it on, "Let us go to work!"
Each of the men raised their fists up high to their boss. Citrine raised out both of his large muscular arms into the air and roared. With a huge wave of optimism pouring out, Citrine, the men and Dragunov turned their sights onto their equipment in the distance and approached them.
Within two hours the empty area soon become consumed with an array of sounds. Two men held large power-drills and placed them onto a large steel beam. Using their other hands the men pulled the triggers, sending out ounces of vibrations through their bodies along with putting nails into the beam itself. Next to the two men were four men with hammers and huge quantities of wood. Lifting up the wood they placed them onto another collection of wood and raised up their hammers before bringing them down.
Near the drilling men and the hammering men, Citrine got down on one knee and picked up some wet cement with a large spatula before putting it onto an array of bricks. Spreading it out he took his other hand and grabbed a large brick before putting it onto the wet cement. With the spatula in his hand he placed it onto the corners of the brick, spreading out the cement, making sure it doesn't spread out too much. Removing the spatula he turned his head to the container of cement and repeated the process.
"Citrine!"
Hearing his name getting called he lifted his head and turned it to the source. Near him his boss Dragunov stood with a large metal pipe beside him.
"Can you take this down below?" Dragunov asked.
"Sure, boss." Citrine replied.
Putting down his spatula Citrine picked himself up and made his way toward his boss. Turning his sights onto the pipe he stretched out his arms and placed them on opposite ends of the pipe. Getting a good grip on it he lifted it up and turned his body to a set of stairs in the distance. Keeping his grip on the pipe he made it to the set of stairs and slowly raised up his leg before putting it onto the first step. Lifting up his other leg slowly placed it onto the next step and repeated himself onto the next one.
Coming to the bottom he brought himself onto solid ground and located another group of men putting huge pipes together.
"I have a delivery." Citrine called out.
Hearing his voice the group turned their heads to look at him with the large pipe in his hands.
"Thanks, Citrine." One of the men said. "Bring it over and hold it for us, we'll put it in."
Walking up to the men Citrine quickly shifted his hands and placed them directly under the pipe. Stretching out his arms he put the pipe in the middle of two other pipes while two men brought up some ladders and climbed them to get to the same height as Citrine. With drills in hand they placed in some bolts and drilled them into the open holes of the pipe's ends. Soon as the last bolt was placed in the two men tapped Citrine's shoulders, signaling him to release the pipe.
"You guys need anything else?" Citrine asked.
"Nah, we're good." One of the men replied. "Tell the boss the pipes are secured."
Giving them a nod Citrine turned around and walked toward the flight of stairs. Reaching the top he turned his head and spotted Dragunov helping their men with some wood.
"Boss." Citrine called, gaining Dragunov's attention. "The pipes below are secured."
Dragunov smiled and gave him a nod. "Good. I will check them later. You may return to job."
Turning around Citrine made his way toward his station, however...once he got there he immediately stopped in his tracks. Near the bricks and cement a small gray cat appeared.
"Meow." The cat said cutely.
Citrine's lips curved upwards at the sight of the creature. It's adorableness immediately took he's attention without fail. Even with the abundance of equipment hammering in his ears, the only thing that he could see in front of him was nothing but the cat.
The cat soon turned it's eyes onto the cement and walked it's way over to it. Stretching it's neck out the cat pushed it's tongue out, attempting to slurp up some of the chunky wet cement. Just when it was about to make contact the cat felt a large sensation of pressure placed onto it's back. Before it could react the cat was soon brought up into the air and toward Citrine's face.
"Naughty kitten. That'll make you sick." He said to the cat before putting it down and away from the cement. Placing his hand in front of his Gemstone an orange glow ruptured from it and soon after a small bowl and a pint of milk came out of it. "Here. This'll be way better."
Putting the bowl down he placed the carton above the bowl and lightly squeezed it. Slightly increasing the pressure the bottom of the carton ripped open and the milk inside started pouring out into the bowl. Once the last drop was poured in the cat slowly walked up to the bowl and began slurping it.
A small hum exited Citrine's mouth as he placed a finger onto the cat and softly rubbed it. Although he's suppose to be working and not giving the cat a drink, he couldn't help but give it some milk. Was that so wrong?
As the sun rose high in the skies the abundance of noises had come to a complete halt. Near the large area there was a small park with an array of trees surrounding a small fountain in the center.
Near the fountain where civilians casually walked or leisurely gazed at the fountain's statue stood a large collection of picnic tables. At one of these tables Citrine sat down with his crew and their boss with their jaws hanging off and their eyes completely dilated. In front of them could only be described as one of the greatest creations in existence. It can only occur once a day, and right now was the right time to engage at such a creation. In the sight of the crew were large metal containers, but within the contains themselves was true bliss. Inside were a huge helping of mashed potatoes smothered in gravy, a large collection of carrots in a pile, white rice covered in meaty curry, huge chicken thighs, and a pile of black-eyed peas. Lastly, accompanying these beautiful babies were large canisters of lemonade.
Without a word Citrine picked up a chicken thigh and raised it up to his mouth. Opening up his jaw he placed the chicken thigh in the middle of his mouth before bring down his teeth onto it. Jerking his head back he ripped off a huge percentage of the chicken and started chewing. Closing his eyes a small hum exited his lips the more he chewed until he ultimately swallowed it. Reopening his eyes he opened his jaw again and sunk his teeth into the chicken once-more.
'Mmm... heaven...' Citrine thought to himself.
"Geez, Citrine... Your family always makes the best meals." Worker#1 said as he put a spoonful of mashed potatoes in his mouth.
"That's for sure." Worker#2 added.
The rest of the crew couldn't agree more and chowed down right onto the delicious food in front of them. At a time of day like right now what else would be more satisfying than enjoying an amazing meal?
"Citrine." Dragunov said, gaining his attention. "When I see your mother I will give thanks."
Citrine nodded and grabbed his canister of lemonade before raising it up to his lips and pouring it through his mouth. Taking in a few gulps he removed his canister from his mouth and put it down before returning his attention to the remains of his food.
"Men. We return to work in hour. Fill bellies as much as you can. We use energy to work harder!" Dragunov said before digging into some mashed potatoes.
Everyone of his men agreed with him verbally or with nods. Citrine merely nodded and continued getting into his food.
The skies above slowly started shifting colors as the sun began lowering itself over the horizon. The shades of blue was fading away in favor of a more orange-esque appearance with the clouds shifting into a more heavy-gray color than the soft white they original were earlier in the day.
Taking off his hardhat Citrine placed his spatula in front of his Gemstone and the item was then engulfed into an orange sphere of light before getting pulled into it. Putting away his hardhat he turned his head to see his comrades exiting the site while taking off their hardhats. Before he stood up he turned his attention to the empty bowl he had for the gray cat and picked it up before putting into his Gemstone.
"Citrine." Dragunov called. "May I speak with you?"
Getting up onto his feet Citrine turned his head to his boss outside of the site and made his way toward him. Once he was now out of the site his eyes were now locked onto his boss, only when he did Dragunov narrowed his eyes at him and crossed his arms.
"Is there something wrong, boss?" Citrine asked.
Dragunov sucked in some air into his nostrils and slowly blew it out the same way. Lifting his head he locked his eyes onto Citrine.
"Citrine. You have big heart." Dragunov said calmly. "I saw today and I see everyday. I admire big heart you have. I respect it. Yet...it distracts you from work."
Citrine's eyes slowly started to dilate. He swallowed some saliva and continued looking at his boss, but now with what he was saying he brought up his large hands and tapped his fingers together.
"I'm sorry. The cat was about to lick the cement and I had to stop it. It looked thirsty, so I had to give it some milk." Citrine explained.
Dragunov hummed and uncrossed his arms. Taking a step forward he raised up his arms and planted them onto Citrine bulky arms. Dragunov's narrowed eyes started to soften, yet he firmly increased his grip onto his worker's arms.
"*huff* We have spoken about this. When we work, we work. Outside of work, you do what you please. But...when you see animal in site you make it go away. Do not feed them. Do not comfort them. You make them leave so they do not get hurt. I am sorry, but that is rule. If I see you do that again you leave for whole day. Understand?" Dragunov said as calmly as he could.
Citrine lightly groaned as his eyes softened. He's been told this many, many times ever since he started working for the company. Dragunov had to remind him once again, even though Citrine understands why his boss is telling him this. Sure, the right thing to do when seeing an animal in a busy and dangerous area is to make them leave right on the spot. But...when you see something smaller than you, you can't help but show a nurturing side to them. He shouldn't be doing this, yet he kept on doing it anyway, and now his job was on the line because of it.
"Yes, boss. I won't do it again. This time I swear." Citrine replied with a sorrowful tone.
Dragunov soon released his hands on Citrine's arms. Honestly, if he could have his way he'd allow Citrine to do this. There was absolutely no harm in it and he does resume working once he's finished with the animal, but unfortunately those were the rules.
"Get home safe. We work hard again tomorrow." Dragunov said as he turned around and walked away.
Watching his boss leave Citrine let out a long sigh from his mouth and turned his eyes onto the sidewalk. Raising up one of his hands to his Gemstone it started illuminating an orange light before a large sphere of light popped out of it. The light started is fade and from it a huge slice of chocolate cake appeared. Taking the cake into his hand he brought it up to his mouth and took a bite out of it before he started walking away from the site.
Chewing on the slice of cake Citrine shifted his body to another section of the sidewalk and resumed walking. As he walked several people walking coming up took notice of him and quickly moved themselves out of the way. Up ahead he came to a crosswalk and stopped in place, putting the last ounce of chocolate cake into his mouth and closing it before chewing.
Next to Citrine stood a little girl and a older man holding hands while looking at the other side of the crosswalk. Turning her head the little girl lightly gasp at the very sight of Citrine and quickly moved around the older man before wrapping her arms around his midsection. The little's girl's body started shaking violently with small whimpers exiting her mouth as she increased her grip around the older man. The older man held onto her and turned his head to see the source of her actions. A light gasp exited his mouth, but he kept himself in place and rubbed the young girl's head.
"Hey, Gem." The older man said.
Citrine turned his head to the older man and the shaky little girl.
"You're scaring my daughter. Why you go somewhere else instead." The man said firmly.
Citrine's lips curved downwards the more he looked at the frightened little girl. Great... First he was reminded of the rule he has to follow and now he's own presence is making a father and daughter uncomfortable.
"I have to go this way. My truck is nearby and I need it to get home." Citrine replied.
The man scoffed at him and bent himself down before picking up his daughter and holding her in his arms. Giving Citrine one more glare the man turned his body and started walking away.
Sucking in some air Citrine exhaled it out through his mouth. Watching the cross-light turn green he started making his way among the road and onto the other side. Making his way down he slightly lifted his head to see a huge parking lot in the distance. Coming up to it he made his way onto the Fist Floor of the lot and spotted his truck in his field of vision. The truck itself was massive and orange with giant wheels, huge lights in the front and back, and right on the bumper was a sticker that labeled: Men At Work.
PING!
Just when he was about to reach into his pocket to get his keys a sudden sound entered his ears. Stopping in place Citrine groaned and used his other hand to reach into his pocket and pull out his phone. On the screen a symbol of a Gemstone appeared blinking. Tapping on it with his thumb a large map appeared in the background and the icon soon placed itself onto a specific place on the map.
"Well...guess I've got something I can smash." Citrine said to himself.
Putting his phone away he placed his hand near his Gemstone as it glowed. From it a large orange whistle came out of it. Grabbing it he placed the whistle into his mouth, causing his whole body to be consumed in a orange light until he completely vanished.
In a bright flash of light Citrine soon arrived at his destination. In the distance stood a humongous mountain with it's peak looking as if it was touching the sky. Turning his gaze to the ground he took notice of the stone and rocky terrain he was standing on. Curling his fingers raised up his head and directed his attention onto the mountain and made his way toward it.
Coming up to the mountain he spotted a huge opening in and resumed walking. Once he walked into the opening his vision began to decrease and his lighting started to weaken, but right when his vision was about to fade to black his Gemstone soon illuminated a large orange glow. The orange light pointed itself forward, shining it's way through the darkness.
Up ahead Citrine spotted a large collection of rocks covering the path. Stopping in his tracks a hum left his lips. Mmm... There were a plethora of things he could do to remove the blockage, though they would only make it harder to traverse within the mountain, yet there wasn't much time to think about. Thinking... Ugh, such a concept made Citrine moan and groan.
From his Gemstone a large sphere of light came out of it. The light started to fade and from it was the perfect tools for the job. Falling into his hands were two huge mechanical gauntlets. The gauntlets themselves held a dark-orange color with white stripes layered onto them. The hands themselves were metal yet held sharp edges on each finger and their sides. Throwing the gauntlets into the air he held up his arms right as the gauntlets opened themselves up and clamped themselves onto his arms.
Narrowing his eyes onto the rocks in front of him and pointed his gauntlets at them. Small bright orange lights started glowing right when his hands started rotating. Pulling his arms back he then thrusted them right onto the rocks. On contact his hands started piercing right through the Geo-layers, making their way right into the crusts of the rock and stone. Adding in some more pressure Citrine started pushing himself onward, breaking through more and more of the rubble. No different than when he was at work since the gauntlets unleashed a loud and ear-breaking sound, yet it wasn't something he was unfamiliar with.
Soon...his gauntlets broke right through the last Geo-layers and crushed themselves through the rubble. On the other side there was nothing but darkness, yet his Gemstone light shined it's way through it, creating another path.
His hands slowly decreased their rotation as he began making his way onto the path. Step by step nothing too interesting was laid out on the path, just rocky walls and terrain leading into the unknown ahead.
Spotting an opening in the distance his he slightly increased his movement and soon enough approached it. Through the opening laid a massive area with the ceiling above shining a large amount of light. To his left he spotted more pathways, only there were a selection of railroad tracks laid out upon them with old rusty carts standing in front of them. To his right he found some large rocks and a wall behind them, however when squinting his eyes he noticed some cracks within the rocks and larger ones on the wall.
Shifting his head from the tracks to the cracks brought up some questions swirling right into Citrine's mind. Where will the tracks take him if he choose to check them out? What were the cause of the cracks on the rocks and wall? The more he thought about it the more groans started exiting his mouth. Making assumptions was never a good idea in scenarios like this, so if he was gonna find the cause or source of the cracks and where the tracks will lead him then he'll just have to go and find out.
RRRROOOOOOOAAAAARRRRRR!
A gasp quickly exited Citrine's lips at the quaking sound entering his ears. Turning his head he shifted his body toward the tracks and processed himself toward it.
RRROOOOOOOOAAAAARRRRRR!
That next roar was probably a good thing for Citrine to hear and making him book it through the tracks. Raising up his eyes he soon caught a glimpse at the source of the cracks. Within another large area there was a massively large orange creature with a large mouth carrying sharp fangs. The creature itself had large arms and legs with small spikes piercing right through it's back. Moreso and what caught Citrine's attention was the large orange Gemstone right on top of the creature's head.
If the creature was alone there would be nothing stopping Citrine from laying a huge amount of whoop-ass on it, but...the Universe really, really enjoys making life complicated for him and everyone else. Standing near the creature was a tall bearded man carrying a pick-axe in his hand, pointing it right at the monster. Behind the man was a very small boy holding onto the man's pants-leg with every ounce of strength he had.
"Nazad! Nazad!" The man yelled in Russian.
The creature snarled at the man and slowly raised up both of it's arms. Putting his arm around the small boy the man shut his eyes, ready for the worse to come.
"Privet!" Citrine yelled in Russian.
Hearing his voice the creature, the man and boy turned their heads toward Citrine. Right when they did the man started charging straight at the creature before shifting his upper-body and impacting it with his shoulder. On contact the creature was greatly pushed away from the civilians and was knock right into the air before crashing into a wall several feel away.
Turning his head to the man and boy Citrine took a good look at the two and noticed a few tears in their clothing. Just as he was about to open hiss mouth the man pointed his pick-axe right at him. It was the same reaction the man from before gave him when Citrine inadvertently frightened the little girl. But before he could speak again he turned his head to the creature slowly getting up and pointing it's attention onto him.
"Uydi otsyuda!" Citrine yelled in Russian as he dash at the creature.
Although the man and the boy didn't want to listen to the Gem, at the very least they were given the opportunity to escape while the said Gem was taking care of the monster. Picking up the boy the man started running away, aiming his attention right onto the tracks.
With the civilians out of his line of sight Citrine was now putting all of his focus right onto the monster. The monster dug it's fingers right into the solid stone below it before throwing itself right at Citrine. Raising it's arm high it soon brought them down hard onto him. Bringing up his own arms, Citrine lifted them right above his head before the impact hit him. On contact his boots pounded themselves into the ground, causing several cracks to ripple themselves right through it.
With a small grunt Citrine pushed himself forward, knocking the monster away. Lowering his vision he looked down at his gauntlets and placed them right onto his Gemstone, absorbing them into it. In their place a large handle popped out, allowing Citrine to pull on it right until he pulled the whole thing out. The handle itself was dark-orange with small spikes on it's end, but on it's other end was a huge head with six spikes on top of it.
Putting both of his hands onto the handle he lifted his hammer back and watched as the monster got up and started charging right at him again. Increasing his grip on the hammer Citrine stomped right onto the ground and twisted his body, swinging the hammer right onto the monster and aiming it right onto the terrain.
POOF!
Pushing it onto the terrain the monster's body immediately exploded into a large orange explosion, leaving only it's Gemstone behind.
Dismissing his hammer Citrine picked up the Gemstone and placed it into an orange bubble before tapping it, sending it away. A long sigh exited his lips. Now the threat was over, only there was one last thing he had to do. Turning around he brought out a large apple from his Gemstone and chomped right on it before following the tracks.
