Episode 13: Black Reaper

Up above Destiny City the skies were filled with an array of clouds. Little by little the clouds grew closer toward one another, shifting from pure white to darkened gray. The light of the sun tried shining it's rays onto the city, but to no avail as the clouds continued growing among the sky.

Down south lied Necro District. As the skies grew darker with every passing second a woman among the sidewalk sat down on a black bench with a book in her hands. The woman had short black hair with pale-skin, dark-brown eyes, and wore silver-piercings on her lower lip and ears. The woman wore a white-collared shirt with black markings around the collar and bottom-half. Alongside her shirt she wore black-pants with a white-belt, black-heels, and wore a black-choker with spikes piercing right out of it.

Raising her hand the woman placed it onto a page of the book before turning it over. Not a word exited her lips as her eyes scanned onto the words presented to her, absorbing each of them right into her mind.

The sound of footsteps entered her ears, though the woman paid no mind to them as she remained in her spot while turning another page. The people walking by paid little attention to the woman; giving her small glances while walking off.

A set of footsteps then stopped and soon after some extra weight was added onto the bench. Taking her eyes away from her book the woman slowly turned her head to the source of the extra weight. Locking her eyes onto the source her eyes slightly widened until they slowly reverted back to their original state. Taking her bookmark placed on her lap the woman put it into her book and closed it. Lowering her book onto her lap the woman returned her attention onto the source of extra weight.

"Hello, Onyx." The woman said, nonchalantly.

Hearing his name, Onyx merely turned his head to the woman.

Tilting her head the woman raised an eyebrow at him. "Don't I even warrant a hello in return?"

Raising up his hand, Onyx slowly waved it at the woman.

The woman closed her eyes with a sigh exiting her lips. Of course. Why should she expect anything different coming from him.

Putting his arm down Onyx merely shifted his attention onto the streets and took notice of a large bus heading toward his direction. Raising himself up from the bench his eyes locked themselves onto the bus as it started slowing down before ultimately coming to a complete stop near him. Turning his head he looked at the woman whom stood up at the bus' arrival and walked toward it when the doors started to open.

Following the woman Onyx went up the stairs of the bus and showed the driver his pass. The driver raised an eyebrow at him, but shrugged and pointed his thumb toward the seats. Passing by several occupied seats he found the woman sitting near a window and took his seat next to her. Once seated the driver closed up the doors and started up the engine before the bus began to move.

Coming onto Draven Drive the bus started to decrease it's speed and soon came to a complete stop. Once it did both Onyx and the woman stood up from their seats and began making their way toward the front of the bus. Shifting their bodies they made their way down the stairs and exited off the bus. Closing the doors behind them the bus soon increased it's speed and began taking off.

Standing right in front of the two lied a small but wide building. Outside of the building stood a chrome statue showcasing a man wearing a suit with a large skull held in both of his hands. On each side of the statue stood a small batch of flowers in a variety of colors. The building itself was white, though there were traces of paint degradation shown on the top and bottom. From left to right were a set of windows with different design patterns on each one. Lastly at the entrance of the building showed a large sign that read: Selina's Mortuary.

Without a word both Onyx and the woman made their way pass the statue and toward the entrance.

CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW!

Lifting their heads Onyx and the woman placed their gazes onto a flock of crows swarming around in the air and around the building. Soon the crows descended right onto the roof the building and planted their talons right onto the structure. One of the crows flew pass it's flock, heading straight for the duo before landing right onto Onyx's shoulder.

Stopping near the entrance Onyx placed his eyes onto the crow and lifted his hand to it, slowly gliding it through it's back and toward the top of it's head. The crow softly cooed at his touch while rubbing it's head against Onyx's cheek. The woman's lips lightly curved upwards at the scene displayed at her. Coming up to the two she brought up her index finger and placed it right onto the crow's head, slowly rubbing it alongside Onyx's.

Soon after they removed their hands away from the crow right as it spread it's wings and took flight. Watching it soar into the air the crow rejoined it's flock as they began swarming into the air once more.

Putting their attention back onto the entrance the duo approached the front door while Onyx reached out his hand and grabbed onto the knob. Twisting it he opened up the door and allowed the woman to enter first before he could.

Closing the door behind him the duo entered inside. At the front entrance the lights above were dim and flickered at a rapid pace. Straight ahead there was a large wooden front desk with a plethora of chairs placed in rows from left to right on the sides. Going up to it the duo placed their attention right onto the front desk lady as she was typing on her computer.

*tap tap tap*

Tapping onto the wood the front desk lady turned her head and spotted both the woman and Onyx.

"Oh, Veronica. Onyx. It's good to see you both." The front desk lady said kindly.

"You too." Veronica replied. "Is the boss here?"

The front desk lady shook her head. "Not at the moment. They are out right now and will be back soon." She then raised out her index finger and pointed it at the duo, "By the way, we have a new addition that got added in last night. There's gonna be a service today. That's what the boss told me to tell you when I see you guys."

"Thank you. We'll get right on that." Veronica replied as her and Onyx walked away.

Turning to the right the duo went down a hallway with more flickering lights on display from above.

"I'm going to get things ready. You go get the new addition from Refrigeration, okay?" Veronica said to Onyx.

With a silent nod Onyx watched Veronica turn toward the Preparation Room while he himself continued walking down the hall. Turning himself to the left Onyx resumed walking down another hallway and placed his gaze onto a door up ahead labeled: Refrigeration. Approaching the door he grabbed onto the door knob and twisted it before heading inside.

Inside the room the lights were very dim, though these weren't flickering, yet it wasn't very bright either. From left to right there were large cabinets with rotatable knobs placed at the center of them. More so, each cabinet had a number placed on it from one to twenty and a symbol placed next to the number. Turning his head, Onyx made his way up to a desk on the right where an employee sat with headphones on her head.

Approaching the employee Onyx raised out his hand and tapped on her shoulder, making the employee jump from her chair and quickly turn around to see him. Upon seeing Onyx the female employee placed a hand on her chest with short breaths leaving her lips.

"Onyx! You gotta announce yourself when you enter a room." The female employee said with annoyance.

Raising up his hand Onyx pointed it at the side of his head. The female employee tilted her head at him, but quickly caught on to what he was trying to tell her and placed her headphones onto her neck.

"Aside from nearly giving me a heartattack, what can I do for you?" The female employee asked.

"New addition." Onyx replied with a dead nonchalant voice.

The female employee gasped and quickly went over to the gurney on the other side of the room. Grabbing it's end she quickly brought it toward her desk before going over to one of the cabinets. Onyx walked up to her as she unlocked Cabinet Four with a bat symbol on it. Opening it cold mist erupted out as Onyx grabbed onto the drawer and slowly pulled it out. The body itself was covered by a large white cloth, obscuring it from head to toe.

Putting his hands underneath the cloth, Onyx picked up the body and carefully guided himself toward the gurney. Once he got himself near the gurney he slowly bent his legs and placed the body right onto the gurney. Putting on the straps, Onyx went around the body and spread the cloth out a bit more. Removing his hands from the cloth he shifted his head to the female employee and gave her a nod.

The female employee moaned a little and rolled her eyes at him. But...this is how Onyx is, even if she couldn't stand his silence.

Going over to the front of the gurney, where the head is, Onyx gripped onto it's sides and started pushing it out of the room. Entering the hallway he quickly made a right turn and slightly increased his speed until he slowly decreased it upon seeing the Preparation room up ahead. With the door wide open he shifted the gurney and slowly entered into the room.

Inside the room the lights were very, very dim, leaving a long drawn-out buzzing sound on entry. At the center of the room stood a large metal table. On the left side of the table was a sink and a plethora of tools lined up perfectly. Near the foot of the table were two large cabinets with silver handles and labeled: Chemicals. Near the head of the table there was a large curtain with a white apron, a clear cleaning mask, rubber gloves, and a hairnet placed on racks.

The curtains soon opened up, revealing Veronica wearing an apron, mask, rubber gloves, and a hairnet. Coming over to Onyx they both unstrapped the body before putting their hands underneath it and maneuvering it onto the metal table. With both hands Veronica placed onto the top of the cloth and slowly removed it from the body.

The body itself showed a young male with short black shaggy hair, very pale skin, and as Onyx and Veronica closely looked at him there were...strange blue markings across his veins and mouth. They both turned to each other with expressionless faces, and yet...the atmosphere itself was engulfed in sadness. Neither of them knew this person, but...from the look of the markings, they could tell how this person passed on.

"Well...shall we get started?" Veronica asked.

Onyx nodded and turned his attention toward a cabinet on his left.

PING!

Right when Onyx shifted his body to the cabinet he froze in place at the echoing beeps entering the air. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out his phone to see a Gem icon appear on-screen. Tapping onto it a map appeared in the background before the icon placed itself onto a location.

Lifting his head Onyx placed his phone back into his pocket as he placed his eyes onto Veronica. The atmosphere soon got quiet with their eyes locked onto one another's. Neither of them said or uttered a word, yet through their gazes they were able to understand what the other was saying. Closing her eyes, Veronica adverted her head from him.

Raising his hand to his forehead Onyx's Gemstone soon glowed, making itself visible behind his hair until a small black whistle came out of it, falling into the palm of his hand. Putting the whistle into his mouth he soon blew into it, surrounding his body in a black light before vanishing.

In a flash of black light Onyx soon arrived at his destination.

Removing his whistle from his mouth he placed it back into his Gemstone before putting his arm down. Shifting his eyes around there was...nothing. The land below his feet was nothing but...sand. Sand, sand, and even more sand was all that there was. From where he was currently standing to the far distances ahead, nothing but sand was shown in his vision. Lifting his head up the skies where pitch-black, though the landscape was illuminated by a sea of stars and a crescent moon.

Lowering his head Onyx lifted up his leg and began moving forward.

Step by step his feet made contact with the sand while his eyes locked onto the path ahead. A small breeze of wind passed by the sands, flowing through his hair. If he were human he'd be able to feel and possibly enjoy the comfort of the desert's cooling winds, but...that wasn't a possibility. Although, the sounds of the wind, the silence of the night, and the absence of life...brought somewhat comfort to him. For the time being at least.

Raising his head Onyx spotted small figures in the distance. Squinting his eyes the figures themselves couldn't be identified, and so he returned his eyes to their neutral state and pushed himself onward. With each step he took the figure started to grow larger and larger until Onyx came to a complete stop near them. A few steps forward the figures were now large enough for him to look at.

Surrounding him were...people. Lying on the sands were...people. But...they weren't moving. Each of wore black clothing with the letters D.H.P. placed on their backs. More so, their back held large cuts on them with red liquid staining their clothing.

Raising his hands out Onyx placed it onto one of the bodies and turned it over. On the other side were large stains of red liquid around the chest area and some pouring out of the mouth. Lifting up his hand he placed it onto the person's face and slowly lowered it, shutting the eyes. Removing his hand he placed both onto the body's arms and placed them onto the chest area while interlocking the fingers together. One by one he gathered the bodies and lined them up side by side, putting their hands together and interlocking the fingers.

Raising up his hands he clapped them together in front of the bodies and bowed his head. Lifting up his hand a large black portal soon erupted from the ground and as he watched the bodies started to slowly sink into it. The shadows of the portal slowly spread themselves around the bodies, covering them from head to toe in darkness, yet putting them in a better place than out in the open. Closing his hand the bodies complete vanished into the portal before it closed itself up.

Lowering his arm Onyx closed his eyes, but they soon shot themselves open when the ground started to shake. His body tumbled back and forth, yet he kept himself standing right as bursts of sand erupted from the ground. From the sands four large creature crawled right out, making themselves known in front of him. The creatures themselves had six legs with large pincers and humongous tails behind them with added stingers. The creatures were all black with spikes piercing out of their bodies and had large black Gemstones placed on their backs.

Placing his gaze onto the creatures, Onyx's Gemstone started to glow as he lifted his hand to it. From the Gemstone a small long black rod start pushing itself out right as he grabbed onto it's end. Pulling out the rest of it a long curved blade appeared on the opposite end of the rod right as Onyx grabbed the whole rod with his hands and began turning it. Grabbing the weapon with both hands he raised it up and dashed right toward one of the creatures.

One of the creature hissed at him and pulled it's tail back before launching it right at him. Watching it come to him a small black portal erupted in front of him before he went into it. The portal soon closed itself up right went the creature nearly striked at it. From behind another black portal erupted out of thin air with Onyx coming right out of it and slashing his weapon at the tail of the creature.

EEEEEEECK!

The creature raised up it's head, howling into the night sky with it's tail getting separated from it's body.

POOF!

In no less than a second a small black explosion emerged right behind Onyx with the slain creature's Gemstone falling into the sands.

The three remaining creatures hissed at him and soon began charging right at him. Lowering his weapon his increased his grip on it and propelled himself at them. Dashing through the sands the winds blew right threw his hair while he planted all of his attention right onto the monsters coming toward him.

All three of the monsters pulled their tails back and launched them right at their prey. Watching the stingers coming right at him Onyx bent his knees on his next steps and ascended right into the air above. Rotating is body forward the stingers passed right by him as he kept rotating himself until he landed right onto the middle stinger and pushed himself forward. Raising up his weapon his soon slashed it right onto the midsection of the stinger before jumping over to the left and unleashing a barrage of slashes at the next stinger.

EEEEEECK!

EEEEEEEEECK!

POOF!

POOF!

Two of the creatures screech at the losses of their tails until their bodies soon imploded into black explosions with Onyx airborne. Pushing his body back his whole body started rotating until he managed to land right back on the ground, and just in time to see two Gemstone fall into the sands.

Picking himself up he locked his attention onto the last and remaining creature. Without a moment to lose he soon made his way toward it. Planting it's eyes onto Onyx the creature quickly began turning it's body, leaving it's tail out as it started coming toward him. Watching it come to him a large black portal soon appeared in front of him right as he went into it just before the tail could make contact. Shifting it's body back around the creature turned from left to right, wondering where's it's prey had wandered off to.

From above another black portal appeared above the creature with Onyx dropping right out of it. Descending right onto his target he raised up his weapon in the night sky and slammed it right into the back of the creature.

EEEEEECK!

Roars echoed through the sands as the creature raised it's head to the night sky, feeling every ounce of pain coursing through it's body.

Digging his weapon even deeper into the monster, Onyx started making his way toward the head, dragging his weapon along with him. Approaching the head he increased his grip and soon pushed it right through the back of the creature's head.

POOF!

In no less than a second the creature's body stopped moving and soon exploded into a burst of black smoke. Landing back onto the sands Onyx turned around to see the black Gemstone fall into the sands.

Dismissing his weapon he raised out his hand and around the black Gemstone three black portals soon erupted around it before the remaining black Gemstones came out of them, gathering around the other. Bending his knees he picked up the Gemstones together and placed all of them into a black bubble before tapping the top, making it disappear.

Turning himself around his eyes turned onto the sands in the distance before raising his head up to the moon and stars. Lifting his hand he raised it up to them, reaching up to them, yet being unable to.

Lowering his arm he pulled up his other one to his Gemstone and brought out his whistle. Without a word he placed it into his mouth and blew into it, disappearing from the sands.

End Of Episode 13.

I believe it's a bit of a coincidence that I'm having Onyx's episode being at thirteen, but I honesty didn't plan it that way. But regardless, I enjoyed making this and expanding a bit more on him.

Hope you all enjoyed. Take care and I'll see you all next time.
