Chapter 5: Stuck In The Dollhouse

Jerry was positively furious…

He couldn't believe that he'd fallen for one of the oldest tricks in the book! Even worse, he had let the Actor get away! The fact that his agents had fallen the trick too only added insult to injury! Like toddlers, easily distracted by something shiny in front of their faces.

In his defense, there HAD been a dangerous device flying through the air that could potentially send them all back in time. …except they'd later discovered that the crystal was pretty much harmless without the second crystal and it was nowhere in sight, as the Actor had taken it with him when he'd fled.

Jerry made sure to assign extra security around headquarters, to make certain that this sort of thing never happened again. He'd even beefed up his agents' training exercises, as a sort of punishment.

The Actor's profile had been updated, after Jerry had questioned the girls. He was a joker- taking the time to mock his adversaries, encouraging them to slip into a false sense of security, before striking. Apparently, he was extremely strong- or, was using some sort of augmentation to appear as such. He was extremely intelligent, to the point of whipping up a full-fledged strategy in mere moments (depending on the situation he was in). The only weakness he appeared to have was his identity- or, at least, his face.

Was he really scared to reveal himself? Did he have some sort of deformity? Or, was this yet another trick he was playing on them?

The girls had been pretty happy to go to school and finally get away from Jerry, who was obviously very frustrated at letting a potential criminal get away- from the top of WOOHP's own tower, no less.

Finished with their classes for the day the three spies walked out of school, headed for the mall.

"Haaaa…" Alex sighed, for the umpteenth time today, looking to be deep in thought.

"Alex… stop thinking about him…" Sam chided, her tone no longer angry but simply exhausted.

"I'm not thinking about anything…" the ravenette claimed.

"He's a bad guy…"

"But, I can't help it!" Alex whined. "I mean, did you see how AWESOME he was?! Taking on so many agents, then just slipping off like that?" she swooned.

"I know Alex… I was there too…" Sam didn't even want to bother arguing anymore, the ravenette never seemed to listen. The redheaded teen couldn't help but stare at Clover, who was already trying to flirt with some older guy sitting in a car.

What was up with her friend's obsession with boys? If she wasn't indiscriminately chasing after every decent-looking guy in sight, then Clover was focused on nabbing the worst type there was specifically! She SERIOUSLY needed to take a break.

Sam noticed someone else emerging from the school, it was the resident mean/popular girl, Mandy… and next to her was her friend Ron.

At least, that's what she THOUGHT they were… Mandy never seemed to take any sort of initiative to advance things with the blonde boy- despite all the time they'd spent together, inside class or out… Mandy had even become much more pleasant as of late- still bickering with Clover every chance she could, but NEVER around the blonde boy.

X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X

Finished with his time at the mall with Mandy, Ron could honestly say that he'd had fun for the first time while shopping.

The ravenette girl just seemed to notice- or, at least, had an inkling as to when it was time to move on to the next store. Ron had offered to escort her home… even if this was Beverly Hills, there was still an element of danger for a young girl walking alone at night.

He had upgraded his wardrobe once more as, according to Mandy, frequently doing so was pretty much the norm in Beverly Hills. She'd even admitted that she was the same way.

When Ron finally arrived home, he put all of his new things away. The blonde boy noticed the very distinctive suit sitting in his closet, instantly recalling how adamant the older man had been about getting it back.

Was there some sort of sentimental value? Or, maybe professional pride? Whatever the reason, Ron couldn't help but feel a bit guilty about it.

'Me and my bleeding heart…' the blonde moaned silently, grabbing his gear and slipping it on.

A few hours later, the blonde ex-sidekick was ready to infiltrate the WOOHP building once more. Some would say that he was just itching for a punishment- but Ron just honestly wanted to have the scrutiny he was under lighten up, even if by just a little bit.

He slipped inside using the same method he had the last time, carrying a small bag that contained the purloined suit. The blonde teen was prepared to simply leave it inside some random office, with a note stuck to it.

The strangest thing was that the previously heavily populated headquarters was pretty much deserted… Ron didn't see anyone walking around. That would be pretty standard- if this was a NORMAL place of business and not a secret spy agency, which pretty much guaranteed that they never stopped working.

'Something's wrong…' The blonde teen pressed onward, deeper into the building than he'd originally intended. When Ron arrived at what he'd concluded was Jerry's office, he could hear strange noises coming from the room.

With a deep breath to prepare himself, Ron opened the door as slowly as he could. The second he stepped into the space someone jumped at him, knocking the blonde boy to the ground.

'Damn! I'll have to-' Ron thought, before his assaulter clambered up and sprinted away.

"Tag… you're it!" the older man exclaimed.

"W-What?" Ron stammered, deeply shocked by this unexpected turn of events. As he got up from his spot and looked around, the ex-sidekick quickly noticed the many agents currently sitting on the floor or running around.

All of them had different… toys. Dolls, trucks, bows and arrows, small toy guns… Ron felt a tiny suction cup arrow hit the back of his head, he whirled around…

…to see an old man trying to hide behind his own desk, giggling and holding a small toy bow.

"Did you finally grow senile, Jerry?" Ron asked, clearly irritated by the 'prank'.

Jerry simply blew him a raspberry, before running off to play with something else.

"What the hell is going on?" the ex-sidekick couldn't help but wonder out loud. 'If things are this bad here… where are the girls?' Ron mused, instantly getting substantially more worried. There would be little point in asking the 'men' in this room, they seemed far more interested in their toys than "The Actor" showing up. Unfortunately, he had no idea where the girls were. In fact, Ron could only see one option available at the moment…

He quickly shooed the agents away from Jerry's desk, taking advantage of the unsecured computer. After a few minutes he seemed to be making some progress, a video feed appeared onscreen.

"Jerry, did you managed to find out anything about the toys?" Clover asked, as soon as she appeared on the monitor.

"Not quite…" Ron replied.

"Y-You?! What are YOU doing there?! …and where is Jerry?!" Clover demanded.

At that very second both Alex and Clover spotted their boss Jerry, behind Ron's head, giving the blonde boy "bunny ears". The ex-sidekick didn't look impressed in the slightest.

"Oh no, not Jerry too!" Alex shouted.

"Yeah… so, I'm guessing you have some clue as to what's going on?" Ron asked seriously.

After the girls filled him in, Ron quickly processed what he'd learned.

"So… they were doing some research on these toys?" he confirmed, glancing over what Jerry had already found. "It looks like these toys were all made in Russia, by some guy named Vladimir Kozyrev, in the seventies…"

"So THAT'S where we need to go! We might be able to stop everything from there!" Clover declared, excited by their first solid lead this whole mission.

"Got it! I'll try and send some backup for you girls! …if I can find anything in this MESS…" Ron declared, determining the spies' location and ending the call.

"Okay… now, let's see what you have for me Jerry…"

X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X

After several minutes, Ron managed to locate some sort of automated aircraft that could take him to the girls. He didn't bother asking why it was purple and had a heart-shaped window in front… some things were better left unknown. They were waiting for him in Taiwan, of all places.

As soon as he'd arrived, they used their grappling hooks to get onboard.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were going to stay at WOOHP…" Clover asked, assuming the task of flying the small plane.

"Yeah… taking care of a dozen or so overgrown brats is NOT my idea of a good time… I figured I'd help you guys out, fix this whole mess a little faster…" the ex-sidekick explained, sitting down.

The small plane was an impressive piece of equipment, for sure. Too bad it only had three seats… and there were four passengers.

Clover, being the current pilot, had taken a seat at the controls. As Sam was in the middle position, that left him and Alex with the one chair left available.

Said girl was seated on his legs and looking quite comfortable with her spot, refusing to issue any sort of complaint.

Ron wasn't sure who the mastermind who'd gotten the idea that three seats were enough was… but, in hindsight, it had probably been Jerry. Now he had to deal with Alex rubbing her rear right on top of his crotch.

"So, what were you doing at WOOHP this time?" Clover suddenly asked, snapping his focus away from Alex's… ass.

"I was actually returning your boss's suit. I'm sure you remember how…", Ron tried to find the right words, "…insistent he was about getting it back…"

"And that's when you found everyone like that?" the blonde spy asked.

"Pretty much… When there were no guards and the man in charge was playing with a toy truck, I assumed that something was up…" Ron let out a small laugh, he felt the yellow-clad spy practically grind against his lap.

"Wow! Not only did you want to give Jerry his suit back, you were also worried about us?" the smiling ravenette questioned. "You ARE a nice guy after all!" Alex crowed, looking positively glowing (and a little red-faced). She continued to slide her body back, now leaning against his chest.

The blonde boy pondered how to respond, when he noticed the redheaded of the group staring at him. 'That's unusual… Sam is usually much more vocal concerning me…' Ron reflected, noticing a small device in her hands. "What's up Zucchini?" he teased.

The redheaded spy tilted her head to the side, she started giggling. "Zucchini, that's a funny word! You're funny!"

"I guess?" Ron replied hesitantly, looking a little confused at her response. Sam shifted in her seat, placing her head on his shoulder, staring at him.

Ron glanced at Clover, the girl simply shrugged. "Don't look at me… She suddenly started acting like a kid, throwing food around and whining like a brat…"

"Ah…" Ron replied, taking in the situation. While he pondered what was going on, the girl on his lap moved once more. Before he was able to say anything, he felt a hand touch his face- or, more precisely, his mask.

Sam had tried to pull his mask off while he hadn't been looking at her, the girl was now sporting a small pout. "I want to see…" she whined, pointing at Ron's face.

"Wow… even when she's acting like a little kid, she's STILL trying to unmask you…" Clover observed, a bit of humor in her tone.

"DO it… take it OFF…" he could hear Alex mutter. She obviously had no issue with seeing his face, even if she wasn't the one attemping to reveal it.

A few minutes later, Clover saved him.

"Okay… looks like we've arrived at the factory! Let's move!" the blonde spy shouted, beginning their descent.

"Oh…" Alex sounded downright disappointed, it seemed like she was quite comfy right where she was.

The group of four had managed to sneak onto the compound, staring at the many armed guards posted all over the area.

"That's a LOT of security for a TOY factory" Alex commented, now back in mission mode.

"Why are they dressed like clowns?" Ron asked.

"Forget THAT… how are we supposed to get any further?" Clover asked, looking around for anything that might work. She spotted a guard operating a forklift, busy loading some human-sized dolls… she smiled.

"This is a BAD idea…" Ron opined, the girls had already started moving.

The three spies were dressed as the dolls were; pink, frilly dresses with similarly colored heels. A blonde wig and some makeup tied it all together.

"You look ridiculous…" the blonde boy commented, looking them over. Clover was using a pen of some kind, to make a hole in the fence for them to go through.

"I look cute, right? Right?!" the child-like Sam asked, a bit louder than they'd like.

"Yes, you are. …but now we are going to play the quiet game, okay?" Ron asked. "If you win… I'll-" Ron began to bargain, when Sam cut him off.

"Mask!", she pointed at the fabric on his face.

"Y-Yeah, sure, I'll give you my mask…" he agreed, the redhead smiled brightly.

"I've got to say… you're pretty good with kids" Alex observed, they entered the warehouse.

"I guess?" the ex-sidekick replied, he remembered playing with Kim's brothers a lot when they were small.

The group took note of the guards' patrols, finding the best way to advance. …or that would have been the case, if Sam hadn't started dancing right in front of the searchlight. She'd only stopped when Alex had claimed they were playing "Simon Says" and finally froze.

Both Alex and Clover ran towards their friend, as soon as the alarm started going off. They couldn't leave her alone, not with how she was acting at the moment.

Ron fell back, watching as several guards surrounded the spies. He resigned himself to jumping in and helping when they lowered their weapons and simply carted the girls off, thinking they were actual dolls.

Ron breathed a sigh of relief- before recalling that he had to press on himself… and there was NO WAY he was cross-dressing today!

He spotted one of the guards wandering off alone, a smile sprouted upon the blonde's face.

This was definitely one of the strangest things he'd had to wear while on a mission. Ron was now in an odd uniform consisted of gray pants and black boots, a gray shirt with black gloves, and a blonde wig with a hat on top. He didn't put on any makeup, simply retaining his mask. If anyone got too close, he'd just "take care" of them.

Ron wandered around the warehouse for a few minutes, grasping the same strange weapon all of the goons had (even if he wasn't going to use it).

"You'll never get away with this!" the blonde boy suddenly heard Alex shout.

He rushed closer to see both Alex and Clover still dressed in their doll costumes, surrounded by guards aiming their weapons at the spies.

'Well, crap…' Ron glanced around, was he going to just charge in and attack? Would the girls be alright if he did? Could they end up getting hurt in the crossfire?

'I need a distraction! But, what do I use…' Ron pondered, quickly choosing a course of action. He threw his weapon high into the air, away from him and over the guards' heads.

Ron started moving immediately before the weapon hit the floor with a clatter. The guards jumped, startled, swiveling to point at the potential enemy. The ex-sidekick was upon them, not a millisecond later.

The two spies used the opportunity to fight the guards, already taking down one man apiece. They prepared themselves to handle the next several- when they realized that there was only ONE still standing. The rest were on the floor, groaning in pain, or down for the count.

They lunged to attack when he lifted his hands and pointed to his mask. "Are you two okay?" Ron asked.

"W-What? How are you- no, forget it… Yeah, we're fine, thanks to you" Clover admitted, smiling.

"When did you even have the chance to find this?" Alex asked, looking him up and down.

"While you were busy being carried away- wait, where's Sam?" Ron asked, glancing around.

"Sammy's been taken away by that Vladimir guy!" Alex suddenly cried. "We HAVE to help her!"

"I'll call the plane, we can go after them" Clover offered, pushing several buttons on her small makeup case.

The girls shed their doll customs, having retained their uniforms underneath them. Ron took off his hat, ready to do the same for his stolen wig.

"Mmm… blonde looks GOOD on you…" Alex purred, watching him strip out of his purloined uniform.

Ron froze, he'd nearly forgotten that he had taken off his own hat earlier. Now, he didn't have anything left to cover his real hair. Should he reveal that he was actually a blonde? Or, simply leave the wig on and get rid of it later?

Alex kept staring, smiling when he chose to keep the wig on. Her grin stretched a little wider.

Not two minutes later, the two spies (and their helper) were onboard the small plane once more. They were hot on the trail of Vladimir and Sam, already gaining on them.

They were only a few minutes from the city… where the madman could make his dreams a reality.

"How are we supposed to stop him?" Alex asked.

"Wait, I've got it!" Clover shouted, grabbing the small dog toy next to her. She fiddled with it for a moment, before removing the chip inside of its head. "Quick, hand me the little Ann doll!"

Alex instantly realized the plan, handing the doll to her blonde partner and preparing to move out. After grabbing the modified doll back, Alex climbed upwards when the plane's hatch opened.

They were now close enough to board Vladimir's flying vehicle. Alex jumped over onto it, nearly slipping off. Ron got up, moving to help her.

"Wait! Let her take care of this… Alex knows what she's doing" Clover assured him. Ron froze, noticing that Vladimir had a gun pointed at both Alex and Sam… only for Alex to suddenly pull out a little Ann doll, dangling it over the side.

Vladimir discarded his gun immediately, rushing towards the doll. The toy's eyes started to glow and, with a tiny flash, the grown man was reduced to a child… playing with his favorite toy.

X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X

It took the spy team a few hours to restore the minds of all the people who'd been turned into children by Vladimir back into their normal selves. Apparently, Alex scolding him had been enough to compel him do what she asked.

The spies had just gotten off their call with Jerry. They'd explained the situation to him, calling in some WOOHP agents to take care of the cleanup.

They had agreed to give Ron a lift home (if only to thank him for his help), the group back inside the purple plane once more.

Their sitting arrangement had remained the same, which meant that he (once again) had Alex in his lap. The ravenette seemed pretty pleased with the outcome, even if Sam was not.

"You realize that the ONLY reason Jerry agreed to give you a ride was because he wants to capture you as soon as we land, right?" Clover asked.

"Clover! What are you thinking, telling him that?" Sam cried out in anger. How could her friend reveal that information? The outspoken redhead quickly glanced at Ron… to notice that he didn't seem all that impressed by the warning.

"Was that supposed to be a SECRET?" he teased. Alex leaned against him, her head resting in the crook of Ron's shoulder.

"W-Wait… you already knew?" Sam asked, quite befuddled. "Then, why did you agree to come with us in the first place? Have you finally decided to give up?"

"Ha!" Ron shouted, a little too loudly, as Alex had suddenly blown into his ear. "Hardly! It just saves me a little time… I have so many connections, I could make the trip back without anyone noticing" he bluffed. While it was true that Ron did have connections with Wade and Betty, he'd rather avoid having them find out about all this.

"But, you're going to have to get away from us… AND a bunch of WOOHP agents. Do you think you can, if I keep holding you like this?" Alex teased, hugged his neck firmly (and smiling like the proverbial cat that ate the canary).

"Alex! Stop that, right now!" Sam yelled, pulling her friend away. "That is VERY unprofessional!"

"Why are you making a big deal about it now? You didn't care before…" Alex grumbled, pouting.

"I was BRAINWASHED into acting like a LITTLE KID!" Sam retorted, annoyed.

"Okay guys, hang tight, we're already over Beverly Hills! We should be at WOOHP in a few minutes!" Clover informed them.

"Finally…" Sam groaned, glancing back at the sole boy onboard. "I'd get ready to take off that mask, if I were you- wait, where did he go?!" she shouted, noticing the boy no longer in his seat.

"Yeah… sorry girls, I'm afraid I have to cut this short…" Ron interjected, standing in front of the now-open exit door. He held two parachutes in his hands, one more upon his back. "My favorite show is starting soon, I don't want to miss it…" Ron winked before falling backwards, smiling at them while vanishing from sight.

The girls simply sat in silence, staring at the open door.

The redheaded spy shook with rage, barely holding in a bloodcurdling scream.

"Sam… calm down, we'll get another chance to nab him…" Clover soothed, as best she could.

Alex sighed in disappointment, "I didn't even get to ask him what his favorite show WAS…"

The Sam-shaped volcano immediately erupted.

And that's done!

Don't forget to tell me what you think!
