Chapter 6: Remembering It
It was another sunny day in Beverly Hills, the spies were busy attending one of their classes. The girls had some clay in their hands, working on crafting it into pots and the like.
In all honesty, nobody was sure exactly WHY they were making pots (of all things). None of these were going to end up being something you would actually WANT to display inside your home.
The three friends had returned from their last mission a few days ago, the spies already starting to get back to normal. As much as they could, that is…
Sam had been even more annoyed than usual with Alex. In a bizarre reversal, it was now her yellow-loving FRIEND'S turn to rant about how the Actor had made his escape because of SAM.
"-and if you hadn't pulled me away, I would have gotten him…" the ravenette groused, for the fifth time since they'd met up.
As much as Sam didn't want to admit it… her friend DID have a point.
"Come on Alex, I'm sure we'll have PLENTY of other chances! He does tend to just show up, exactly when we need him" Clover pointed out, trying to cheer her friend up.
'That's a good point!' Sam realized, why DID he do those things? He'd simply appeared out of thin air one day and helped them out. Even when he'd broken into WOOHP, it had only been to return their boss's suit… as ridiculous as that was.
"What is his reason?" the redheaded teen questioned in a quiet voice- before she noticed something.
Mandy had just started arguing with Clover about something, Sam having been too distracted to hear what the disagreement was about. The ravenette girl had gotten her hair stuck onto the deformed clay pot Clover was working on, screaming in horror at what was about to happen…
Before anyone could react a hand reached out, stopping the potter's wheel before it could rip Mandy's hair out.
"Be careful with that…" a blonde boy chided, standing behind the spies. His arm remained stretched out, having just pushed the machine's stop button. "Mandy, you okay?" he asked, his tone worried.
"R-Ron… you saved my life…" Mandy replied quietly.
"I think you're giving me too much credit, it was only your hair…" the ex-sidekick pointed out.
"Ah… right, silly me…" The ravenette girl started laughing.
"I think what she means is that her hair IS her- ouch!" Clover's explanation to the dense boy was cut off, when Mandy suddenly stepped on her leg to shut her up.
"Um… are you alright?" Ron asked, concerned by Clover's sudden yell. Mandy grabbed his shirt, dragging him away.
"She's fine… By the way, did I tell you about my upcoming trip to-" Mandy began, separating her blonde friend from the three spies.
"That annoying, little- ouch…" the blonde spy complained, massaging the pulsing pain in her leg.
"Well… what do you expect, when you're about to insult her right in front of the guy she's interested in?" Sam responded dryly. Anyone with even a PASSING understanding of girls could pick up on Mandy's interest in the blonde boy.
"Yeah, I heard that she stopped caring about other guys… like, complete stop!" Alex chipped in, the three returning to their classroom activities. As long as they didn't need to deal with Mandy's antics, they didn't really care.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
Ron had been sitting in his room for the last few hours, pouring over the material that he'd copied down during his last few classes. In the past, this would have been a clear sign that he had been taken over by some alien lifeform hellbent on destroying the universe.
In reality, Ron had (surprisingly) decided to try to improve himself. 'How could I show KP that I didn't change at all, during all the time we've been apart? I'm sure that she's working hard to get better too!' Maybe it was a little silly on his part, but Ron Stoppable wanted to PROVE that he could do better on his OWN. He was tired of people just assuming that he'd gotten where he was because he was KIM'S friend.
It was one of the reasons he hadn't called her yet… First, he wanted to have something ready to impress her.
It was already night, Ron listening to some music while he concentrated on his studies.
His phone suddenly rang, breaking his focus.
"Hello?" he answered, not bothering to glance at the caller ID.
"Hey Ron, how's it going?!" asked the familiar voice of his friend Mandy.
The blonde instantly relaxed, closing his notebook and leaning back in his chair. "Hey Mandy! Did you already arrive at your hotel?"
"Yep, sure did! The flight was super-fast, I even had time to settle in my room!" He could hear the smile on her lips from the way she spoke. "I'm still a bit bummed that you couldn't join me…"
"Yeah… sorry about that Mandy, I still have a lot of work to make up…" the blonde teen apologized with a light chuckle. He would've liked to have joined his newest friend… if only she hadn't invited him to vacation in Bora Bora, of all places!
That was just a bit MUCH… even for HIM! …and it wasn't like it was a family vacation that had an extra seat available, or something like that. It was basically just Mandy going alone… then, she'd invited him. She was just being nice to him, he supposed.
"I know… but still…" the ravenette groused, pouting slightly.
"How about we go somewhere when you come back? I'll even let you pick out our destination" Ron offered, hoping to cheer his friend up.
"R-Really?! You-you promise?!" the girl asked, almost desperately.
"Yep, WHATEVER you want!" the blonde assured her, smiling. Whatever Mandy felt like… it was most likely going to be a movie- or, a place she wanted to check out.
"O-Okay! I'm going to hold you to that promise!" his friend exclaimed, sounding rather excited at the prospect.
They talked for a few more minutes, before the boy simply froze upon hearing something very peculiar from his friend.
"By the way, I saw some familiar faces today…" the girl declared. "Remember those girls we met at the mall?"
He did, IMMEDIATELY. "You mean Clover, Sam, and Alex?" he asked, instantly becoming worried.
"Yeah… it was the oddest thing, too. Almost as if they'd gotten the same idea for a vacation as me…" Mandy admitted. Finally, a few minutes later, they ended the call. Ron was left with a sense of impending doom.
'Well… it looks like I'm going to be joining Mandy on her little vacation after all- but, not in the way she'd hoped…' He quickly rose from his seat, gathering the few things he needed… Mainly some cash, his spare mission clothes, and his fake ID. There was not a doubt in his mind that he'd be in the pacific soon… Wade did know his stuff, after all.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
The blonde teen had just landed in Bora Bora, already regretting not thinking about how hot it was here… Plus, it was still daytime! How was he supposed to sneak around, or get close to the spies, in his normal getup?
'I need a little wardrobe change…' he concluded, entering a small (but very packed) shopping area. Ron entered the first clothing shop he found, picking out a pair of dark gray swim trunks- with a tight, light-blue shirt to complement them. A pair of sandals, a flap cap, and a pair of sunglasses completed the look. All in all, he looked like a tourist that didn't fancy the sun all that much. That would work perfectly for him, for the time being.
"Okay… now, all I need to do is to find those girls… If I was a secret spy going undercover, where would I-" Before Ron could even finish his sentence he noticed a strange, very colorful, green, high-tech motorcycle passing by… parked by a familiar, redheaded teen.
"-be? Why do I even bother?" he asked rhetorically. Ron noticed that both Alex and Clover had the same high-tech ride, painted with their own colors. 'Well… at least I found them.'
He watched as the redheaded spy (who was standing on top of a colorful van) was hit with something black and transparent. The force was enough to knock her through the air and into a fountain, the van driving off in a hurry.
Sam clambered up out of the fountain, proving that she was completely fine… just a little confused.
"Sam/Sammy!" her friends cried out, both Clover and Alex rushing over to make sure she was alright.
"Who are you?" Sam asked her teammates.
Ron started inching closer to the three spies. 'May as well exploit the opening…' he mused, briefly clearing his throat. "What are you three doing here?" the blonde teen asked.
Both Alex and Clover turned to face him. Sam simply stared at Ron, her head tilted to the side. "Who's he?" the redhead questioned.
"Y-You! What are YOU doing here?!" Clover demanded to know, clearly recognizing him.
"I could ask YOU the same thing… I'm guessing it has something to do with why the zucchini isn't screaming at me?" Ron crossed his arms, glancing around. "WE are on a mission…" Alex answered innocently, taking in his new attire. "…and you?"
"Vacation… I kind of wanted to take in some sun, relax…" the blonde ex-sidekick lied.
"I BET… how about we continue this conversion at the hotel?" Clover offered, looking around. They quartet were already drawing some strange looks from the people surrounding them.
"Sure! It looks like your friend isn't going to jump me anytime soon… so lead the way!" Ron agreed cheerily. He glanced at Sam, who still looked a bit confused by everything.
'Nope… not Sam, at least…' Clover mused.
…
A few minutes later the four were well on their way to the hotel. The girls rode their odd-looking motorbikes, Ron having been offered a ride by Alex. The ravenette teen had looked pretty eager for him to accept, too.
Ron was riding on the seat of the yellow motorcycle, holding onto the spy's waist. She was warm and surprisingly soft, despite her line of work. Alex's bright-yellow suit was just as smooth as he remembered it being, from the last time he was in close contact with her.
'Stop with those thoughts… this is serious work!' Ron admonished himself. The cycle suddenly shook for a moment, his arms tightening around her slender waist in reflex.
"Ah… s-sorry, I'm not the best driver! You might want to hold on tighter… s-so you don't fall off, of course!" Alex suggested.
"Y-Yeah, sure…" Ron nodded and held on more firmly, strongly pressing his own form into her own.
He never noticed Alex's smile, or blush, underneath her helmet.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
Ron and the spies arrived at their hotel, quickly entering their room and locking the door. Sam was glancing around in wonder… taking in where she was and the people around her.
Clover had called Jerry, currently explaining the situation to him on her compact mirror.
Ron had a look around the room, moving to the balcony and admiring the view. 'So, Sam lost her memory when one of those 'blobs' jumped on her face?' That was slightly worrying… if HE was hit with one of those things, it would pretty much be the end of his secret identity. 'The longer I stay here, the worse this situation seems… and these girls put up with this sort of thing on a WEEKLY basis?' It was both incredible and insane at the same time.
"And you…" Ron suddenly heard the familiar voice of Jerry, now much closer to him than he'd expected. He turned his head to see Clover's communicator pointed at him, her boss staring at Ron intently. "Could I trouble you to help out? The girls being down one member and all…" the older man requested, surprising the spies- well… the pair who still had their memories.
"I guess I could… my vacation WAS getting a little boring, after all… I hope that you aren't planning on trying to arrest me this time…" Ron joked, his tone jovial.
"I suppose I could… 'forget' to mention that we encountered you…" the older man conceded.
"I could always pocket one of those blob things and help you forget…" Ron teased… before realizing that sounded a bit like a threat.
"In any case… girls, don't let Sam out of your sight- she's safest with you! Oh, I found some new information concerning the sample you sent me… We've traced it to a man called Lester Crawley-" Jerry began, explaining what he'd discovered.
From what Ron understood, the villain had been a janitor working on a cure for memory loss at night. He'd been discovered… and fired from his place of work, before getting arrested for stealing some extremely expensive equipment. Finally, he'd escaped from prison… and was now on the loose, making these so-called blobs.
'Well, I can't say that I feel TOO sorry for him… But, why would he work as a janitor in the first place? He was OBVIOUSLY smart enough to create something that could make him famous… and a millionaire. Why not move, join a different lab elsewhere? Or, sell his findings to some investors and prove that those other scientists were in the wrong?' the blonde couldn't help but ponder. Ron simply shook his head, sometimes it was better to not think on such things too deeply… common sense and logic did NOT apply to these people.
His thoughts cut off when the ravenette teen sat on the bed, then leaned back suggestively. She stared at him with a smile.
"So… I guess now we're officially on the same team, eh?" the spy prompted.
"I guess we are… At least until your boss finds a chance to nab me, or the zucchini gets her memory back…" Ron teased, smirking at his own words.
"Sammy's not THAT bad!" Alex laughed softly, sliding closer to him. "So, what can I call you? You know, for the mission?"
"Didn't you already have a name for me?" the blonde boy remarked, vaguely recalling that they had called him something (but not what).
"Oh… right! Our boss decided to call you "The Actor"!" Alex squealed, she noticed his unimpressed expression. "Hey, I like it! I think it's cool!"
"At least SOMEONE does…" The Actor muttered quietly. He moved closer to the bed, looking around at the other spies. Sam was simply standing around, taking in what she could. Clover was still on her compact mirror.
"Well… then what do you WANT me to call you?" Alex asked. She suddenly shot up into a sitting position, her face only inches away from his abs. She stared up at Ron's face, a tiny glint in her eyes. "Well… what do you want me to call you?" she repeated, her voice oddly quiet.
"T-The Actor's fine… I really can't give you my real name, after all…" Ron wasn't sure why, but Alex had the sort of presence he just couldn't ignore… even when he desperately wanted to.
"Not even if I promise not to tell~?" she cooed, staring him in the eyes with a smile.
"No, sorry… maybe next time…" he shot back, Clover moving towards them. Ron just hoped they would be able to finish this quickly.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
A few minutes later the four were riding Clover and Alex's motorcycles, heading towards a marine laboratory- one that could be the hiding place of their latest baddy.
For once, Alex was not a happy camper. Her latest interest had been taken away from her, in a very rude manner. The ravenette teen had been assigned to escort Sam, while Clover had gotten to ride with the new addition to their team.
Alex was still pouting, glancing at the two, as the pair rode the red bike belonging to Clover.
"I still don't understand what's going on…" Sam whined from behind Alex.
"Okay, your name is Sam!" the yellow-wearing spy began.
"Sam? …am I a man?" Sam asked innocently, even unsure about that.
"Wow… it's REALLY serious…" Ron couldn't help but mutter, watching as Alex tried to explain everything to the clueless girl.
"Looks like it… I wonder if it's temporary, or permanent, unless we get her memories back…" Clover commented, driving/flying to their target.
…
"Say, um…" Sam mumbled.
"It's Alex, I'm one of your best friends- along with Clover…" the ravenette teen provided.
"You are? Well… then who's he?" the redheaded teen asked.
"If I knew THAT, I'd be much happier…" Alex muttered, making it clear what was bothering her.
"You like him, right? It's SO obvious!" the green-wearing spy accused. "WOW, he must be REALLY dense if he couldn't figure THAT out!" Coming from Sam right now, that was saying something.
"I guess he is?" Alex answered back… why did this sound so familiar to her?
"Girls, we're close! switch on your helmet subs!" Clover ordered. Their headgear suddenly sealed up, then they started to descend.
"Wait, what about me?!" Ron shouted, suddenly very nervous about basically being stranded in the middle of the ocean.
"Don't worry, I've got a gadget for this!" Alex assured him, the bikes sinking into the water.
"Are you sure those things are going to work underwater?" the blonde ex-sidekick questioned.
"Of course-" Clover began, cutting off when the bikes suddenly started to sink. "…they're not…" she laughed, moving to grab Sam.
Alex moved closer to Ron and pulled out a small, white gadget from her belt- handing it to him. It was a compact device that looked like you were supposed to bite into it. She pointed at her lips, then the object.
Ron quickly understood and, as he bit into it, he felt he could breathe once more. He quickly relaxed, though his glasses ended up lost in the water.
Alex grabbed his hand as firmly as she could, pulling him to her side. Suddenly, small tubes sprouted from the spies' feet. Air began shooting out of them, propelling the team forward.
"Don't worry, we'll be there soon-" Alex swore… noticing that the boy had his eyes closed and obviously didn't have a helmet (with an intercom) to hear her. "Oh… um, never mind…" she muttered, embarrassed.
…
"That was horrible…" Ron commented, upon arriving inside the underwater facility- no, correction, it was a DEEP-SEA facility! Unfortunately, the water had been nearly ice-cold. Worse, they had been underwater for almost an hour!
"It wasn't that bad… right?" Alex shot back, staring at him.
"For you, with your suit, I supposed not… But I had to just hold on blindly, all the way here…" Ron explained. He stripped off his shirt, making sure to keep his hat on. "I'll stay here and dry off… it'd be a bad idea for me to draw any attention to you…" Ron reasoned. He folded his shirt a few times before he started to wring it out by hand, demonstrating how fit he was.
…
"…what's up?" The blonde boy had glanced at the girls, only now noticing the way they'd been staring at him.
Sam had her head tilted to the side.
Clover looked for a few seconds more, before she glanced away.
Alex simply stared shamelessly, without a care in the world, a big smile on her face.
"What's the hold-up? Did you need something?" he asked, still fixing his shirt.
"Yesssss~" Alex purred, a look of shock overtaking her features upon suddenly being pulled away by Clover.
"No, we're leaving… Try to catch up to us as soon as you can, you're not much of a backup if you're not around to help us…" the blonde spy replied, now pulling both her teammates away with her.
"No, wait… I'm not done yet!" Alex cried, as they all disappeared down the corridor.
"Odd… Well, whatever… at least it gives me a second to relax" Ron muttered to himself, continuing to dry off.
A few minutes later Ron was on the move, going slowly. He was checking every corner he came across, he couldn't afford to be jumped by something that could potentially wipe his memory.
Ron could suddenly hear footfalls and the sounds of rapid movement. He hid inside an alcove, watching a few dozen people running around. They were all dressed in the same, white uniform and moving with exceptional similarity.
'Did they have their minds messed with, like Sam? Or, are they simply goons for hire?' Ron wondered, before deciding to tail the group.
Following them had proven successful, spotting the madman who had apparently captured the three spies. He was preventing them from escaping with the use of some sort of metal straps, holding them immobile in a very… suggestive manner.
'I'm sure it's just me…' Ron admonished himself, shaking his head and moving closer.
"After hatching, they search for the closest human brain and…" There was a slight pause, before the old madman continued, "…SUCK the memories…" He smiled at his words.
'Okay, yeah… that was intense… old pervert…' Ron growled silently, inching forward.
"I DO hope you enjoy the demonstration…" the creep remarked, smirking before he walked away.
The girls were left staring at three, puke-green eggs. They started to very slowly open, something pink emerging from them.
"Yeah, that's enough…" Ron declared, rushing forward. He swiped at the pods, effectively destroying them.
The three girls simply looked on in shock, their helper had just saved their minds from being erased!
Alex was the first to comment, "wow, that was so cool! Gross… but still cool!"
The blonde boy quickly wiped his hand off on his swim trunks, rushing to the girls' backs to release them. 'Guess I'm burning these shorts after all…' Ron moaned internally, looking the spies over. "You girls okay?"
"We are NOW, what took you so long?" Clover asked.
"Are you kidding? It's been, like, five minutes…" he shot back, a bit irritated by the disgusting residue of those eggs still on his hand.
"Stop them! Don't let them escape!" the old madman screamed as he rushed to his ship, the whole facility started to shake.
The many guards sprung forward, ready to take the spies (and their helper) down.
"You three get the old man, I'll deal with the fodder!" the blonde boy ordered with a smirk, rushing forward.
"Wait, you can't just-" Clover objected, cutting off upon watching Ron disable the numerous guards with frightening efficiency. "-or, apparently you can… Whatever… let's go, girls!"
"Aww… but I want to stay and WATCH…" Alex complained, moving after her friends.
…
The plane Lester tried to escape in was brought down without even leaving the base, the girls managing to subdue him without too much trouble. His goons WERE down for the count, after all.
They dragged Lester over to tie him up with the rest of his goons, before grabbing the control device and restoring Sam's memory.
Ron noted that, just like when she'd lost her memories, the process was horrifyingly simple. 'Just how easy is it to erase someone's memory?' Would it do the same to him? Make him forget who he was, turning the ex-sidekick into a mindless drone?
Sam noticed Ron just as his anger was subsiding.
"What is HE doing here?" the redheaded teen asked, pointing at him.
Her two friends filled her in on what had happened while she was… away, Sam frowned in frustration.
Ron slipped closer to the girls, staring at them. "So… I guess that's done with, right?" He glanced at Clover who was, funnily enough, the most competent one during this mission.
"Yep, we've already called Jerry to ask for a lift back home…" She eyed the blonde boy. "You plan to stick around? Or run off like you usually do, pretty boy?"
'Pretty boy?' Ron parroted silently, he shook his head. "I'd rather finish my vacation here, not in a WOOHP cell… But, thanks for the offer…" He turned and started walking away- before stopping after a few steps. "Wait… aren't we in the MIDDLE of the OCEAN?" he asked, turning back towards them.
"Ah, so you DID remember…" Clover teased, smiling at his realization.
"You've got NOWHERE to run THIS time! Unless you fancy a nice, long swim…" Sam crowed, pleased to see that they finally had him cornered- with no hope of getting away.
"I'm pretty sure he can do it…" Alex contradicted. "I mean, he's got the body for it…" Her friends stared at her. "What? You saw him too, Clover…"
Ron glanced around, before smirking. "You know what? I think I WILL leave, after all…" He made his way towards one of the knocked-out goons, stripping something off of his back. Ron strapped the white jetpack that he'd lifted onto himself.
"Damn… I forgot about that…" Clover mused, smiling. "Aw well… we'll get you next time…" she insisted, shrugging it off.
"Really… just like that? You're not even going to TRY and stop me?" the ex-sidekick challenged, clearly intrigued.
"Well, I'm not going to ruin someone's time off… So… get out of here, before we change our minds…" the blonde spy added with a wink.
Ron took to the air, flying back to the hotel. He DID still have to arrange a ride back home.
'Maybe Clover isn't so bad after all…' he mused.

And that's done!
Don't forget to tell me what you think!
