Chapter 17: C.H.A.D

After making sure the 'bully' they'd been escorting was picked up by WHOOP operatives, the four spies headed for their next destination… where the gym teacher was reportedly staying.

"Wow! Italy looks so beautiful!" Alex gushed, sitting next to their newest member. "Have you ever been here before?" the ravenette teen asked him.

"A few times, actually…" Ron admitted. He glanced towards Sam, who was pouring over the information they'd gotten from Jerry.

"The gym teacher's name is Joe Hassler… Apparently he moved here to Capri to lay low, after he was baggage handled…" Sam read out loud, mild amusement in her tone.

Ron couldn't help but chuckle and look away, there was just something about the way she'd said it that made him laugh… it reminded him a little of Kim's humor.

Alex quickly glanced between both her redheaded friend and their new teammate, a small scowl on her face. She hugged Ron's arm, glaring at Sam.

'Oh, now that's not good…' Clover mused, glancing at the trio. That could turn into some friction, if they weren't careful.

The spies had managed to arrange a meeting with the former teacher near where he was currently living, a small restaurant. It was located on the old side of the island, and was fairly quiet.

They all decided to order something while they were there, it wasn't exactly every day you could eat AUTHENTIC Italian pasta. Clover had ordered a green paste pasta for herself. Ron enjoyed an ordinary, tomato sauce-based dish… that he shared with Alex.

The girl had been VERY adamant about sharing it with him.

'She must be just a little bit hungry' Ron concluded, listening to the teacher.

"I'm telling you, I've never been to Vegas and I don't know this kid" the older man insisted, feeling quite distressed. "I don't wanna go anywhere!"

"You'll be safer at WHOOP" Alex swore, in between bites.

"Inside cars, planes, or ships? They all have computers! And if computers are out to get me, then how do I travel?" he asked, genuinely wondering what the team talking to him could do.

Sam and Clover stared at the older man, carefully considering how they could help- all while Alex was totally focused on eating and staring at their male teammate.

It was at that moment the girl noticed the noodle she'd been slurping was connected to Ron's own. Alex started furiously eating her way forward, closing the distance between them.

-only for the pasta to snap in two.

Sam and Clover could only smirk at the distressed ravenette, all while Ron remained none the wiser.

"I think I have a way…" Sam suddenly declared, glancing at a cable car moving in the distance. "That should be low-tech enough to avoid any trouble!"

"Mmm… I don't think that's a good idea…" Ron suddenly cautioned, pulling away from his dish and looking at his new teammates. "The cable car might be okay… but what about the computer that's operating it?" He recalled their time riding over. "I think there was a main computer controlling the thing… and that would be just begging for a runaway cable car."

The girls could see his point, remembering what he was talking about.

"Well, that's a bust…" Sam groaned, realizing her idea seemed like a surefire way to get attacked once again.

"Say…" Alex suddenly interjected, having recovered from the disappointment of her lost opportunity. "This might be a dumb question to ask a gym coach… but do you have any enemies?"

"Only every kid I ever taught…" the older teacher responded. "They may have seen me as a villain when I had them all run around and work out, but after a few years? Some of them come back and thank me for pushing them so hard at the time… and that's enough for me to keep teaching!" the older man confessed with an honest smile.

"So, you can't think of anyone?" the ravenette challenged.

"How about anyone good with computers?" Sam asked, directing his memory to a more recent time.

"Yeah! A lot of them, actually! But the most recent one that comes to mind is this one kid… I had him running laps all last year, I forget his name…" the gym teacher replied, wracking his mind for an answer. "He transferred to Silicon Valley…"

"Silicon Valley High?" Clover confirmed, before the realization struck her. "Isn't that where our last victim is the principal at?"

"Wait, that's it!" Sam suddenly shouted, shooting up. "That kid was bullied by both of them and was transferred to Silicon Valley! So, he must still be there!" The redhead seemed to have connected all the dots, calling Jerry to give them a lift.

"Looks like we're headed to Silicon Valley after all!" Clover exclaimed, glancing back at the coach. "Now, what to do with you…"

"I think he'll be fine where he's at…" Ron suggested. "As long as you stay here until we work this thing out, you should be perfectly safe" the disguised blonde cautioned.

"Yeah, I think so too…" Alex agreed, staring unashamedly at their new teammate.

'Oh boy…' Clover moaned silently.

The sandy beach of San Francisco was as peaceful as it always was- unaware that under the water a few hundred feet away from the shore was a submarine in the depths, waiting to launch a huge projectile at the unsuspecting sand.

The pod barreled towards the shore at an alarming speed- only instead of blowing up, it simply slid onto the land. A hatch in the front opened upwards and a bench-seat catapulted everyone sitting on it, they planted face first in the sand.

"I swear, every time I think Jerry can't come up with a more annoying way for us to travel he does this…" Clover griped, fixing her hair.

"Can you really say that, when you used ME as your landing pad?" Ron mumbled, pulled himself up from the hot sand.

"Yeah… I'm going to have a word with him when we get back…" Sam agreed, also extracting herself.

Alex could only stare, both annoyed and envious, at Clover. The blonde girl was sitting like a queen upon their male member's back, having been completely spared from the sand.

"Oh! Right, good job New Guy! You're definitely on the right track to earn my favor!" Clover teased with a smirk, standing up and offering Ron a hand.

"Yeah… right…" the disguised blonde scoffed, accepting the proffered arm, he stared at their destination.

Clover's breath was stolen as she stared at the large building in front of them, "wow…" The school looked like a mix of a few assorted buildings with different structures and styles. They ranged from old and respectable, to modern, to a futuristic design. There was even a train headed for a station inside the school. "Silicon Valley High makes our school looks so… twentieth century…"

"You said it. So… how can we blend in, so we don't look so suspicious?" Alex agreed, pointing out their latest issue. Jerry had insisted they all dress up in their mission gear, before he'd sent them to the school.

"By NOT blending in…" Sam volunteered, the redheaded spy of the team smirked at her idea before looking at her teammates. "Let's take a little backstage tour of their auditorium…"

Both Alex and Clover grinned at the suggestion, while Ron looked confused. 'Why the auditorium?' he wondered, following the girls. He had a BAD feeling about this.

….

The four spies made their way into the school, sneaking into the auditorium. The place itself was fairly empty, most students off inside their normal classes.

After verifying the coast was clear, the girls had entered inside (with Ron tagging along).

"Okay, so, what now?" he asked- before seeing what was all around them. 'Oh no…' he thought in worry, staring at the frankly insane number of different costumes and props.

"Oh wow, look at all of this!" Alex shouted. She and the rest of the girls rushed over to a shelf full of stuff.

"Yeah, this is going to work out great!" Sam declared, grabbing an outfit from one of the shelves.

"W-What are you doing?" Ron stammered, the blonde boy already having a clear idea what they were plotting.

"Blending in, New Guy…" Sam shot back, not even glancing at him.

"Here… you can try this!" Suddenly Alex was very close to him, holding out a few articles of clothing.

"Great…" Ron remarked with a flat look, he took what she'd presented to him.

….

'I hate this so much…' Ron couldn't help but whine, looking himself over when they arrived at their destination.

There was a lone guy sitting behind a desk, his head buried in a computer screen. He was a tall teen with wavy, dark blue hair. He was wearing a green vest, with a white shirt underneath.

The guy quickly looked up at them as they all entered. "Oh! I'm sorry, but the principal is out sick today…" he declared, sounding honestly sorry for the inconvenience.

"Oh dear…" Sam was the first one to step forward, dressed in a strange green jumpsuit with a colorful hat, a pair of light-pink glasses, and a peace necklace around her neck. "Can you help us, love?" she asked, in an exaggerated British accent. "We're new exchange students, I'm Samantha from England."

Ron wanted to facepalm, 'this is their great plan?' He couldn't help but groan silently to himself at the sheer insanity of this idea.

"And I am Alexandra, from Russia! It's enrolling in school ve vant!" Alex declared next, employing a very thick accent. She was dressed in a big fluffy dress and hat, looking more like a babushka doll then anything.

"And I'm Cloverpatra from Egypt…" Clover added next. The blonde girl had chosen a white tunic, a few golden rings around her hands and neck… as well as a large crown on her head and big, golden earrings.

Ron felt a headache coming on from the sheer audacity of it all. 'There is NO WAY this is going to work…' He was already preparing himself for their inevitable getaway.

"Hey!" the teen behind the computer greeted with a bright smile.

'OF COURSE he just buys this…' The disguised blonde couldn't help but think that was due to the teen being a guy being greeted by three cute girls. 'Either that, or he's just an idiot…'

"A-And he is?" the teen prompted, glancing at Ron.

Ron himself was wearing green pants and shirt, a white shirt underneath, as well as a red tie, on his hands were black gloves. He wanted to protest to this little dress-up… because it made him look like a spy- which, of course, was EXACTLY what he was trying to NOT resemble!

"I-I'm-" he began to answer, before being cut off.

"He's Ro!" Alex interjected, darting over and wrapping an arm around one of Ron's own. "Da! He's my boyfriend!" She smiled up at her male teammate, before turning to the teen behind the desk.

'I'm what now?' Ron simply glanced over to Alex, who'd declared that as easily as the weather. 'Well… at least I know what my cover name is…'

"Well… hello to you all, I'm Adam Lewis- Say, those clothes look familiar… you haven't performed in a school play here, have you?" Adam asked in confusion.

"Nyyet!" Alex responded (in her fake accent). "We are just arriving…"

Ron could only glance in shock as Sam was clearly laughing at that, finding all of this amusing.

Clover moved closer to Adam. "Oh, a thousand pardons if we offended thee!" She set her hand on his shoulder. "We wish to meet other new students who go here, could we see your… how you say? Database of new arrivals?" the blonde spy asked in a sweet, fake, horrible accent.

'There is NO WAY this is going to work…' Ron swore silently. First the terrible accent, then the awful acting, now this? Way too much!

"Sure! Let me put in my password!" Adam enthused, scratching his head with a smile. "Just don't tell the principal, okay?" Adam added, sitting back down in his seat.

Ron couldn't hold himself back, he cringed and facepalmed.

"Are you okay, Ro?" Alex asked, still hanging off his arm. "Do you need me to take you to the nurse's office?" the girl offered, smiling and winking at him.

"N-No, I'm fine…" Ron cleared his throat, steadfastly ignoring Alex's words, as he simply stared at Adam. 'Dude… are you REALLY going to let a group of really sketchy people have access to your system, just because a cute girl asked you?! And your only concern is them telling the principal?!'

"C.H.A.D?" Clover remarked, staring at the screen.

"C.H.A.D stands for computer home analyze and defender! My invention!" the teen proudly proclaimed. "He- it can access any computer anywhere!"

'Looks like we found our idiot…' Ron concluded, carefully watching the naive boy. If he was dumb enough to design something so obviously ripe for misuse, then he'd probably made some serious mistakes along the way.

"I spend a lot of time on C.H.A.D, since Dad's always moving us…" he started to explain, not noticing Clover busily writing something in her little notebook. "I guess we both know how hard it is to make friends when you're the new guy at school…" his happy expression changed to an angry one. "All those bullies and snobs…" he practically hissed.

"Yeah, sure…" The blonde girl's facade cracked for a second, before she smiled at the teen. "Oh, excuse me…"

Suddenly the door bust open, an older woman entered inside. She looked angry, almost furious. So much so, she hadn't noticed when Adam grabbed a thick piece of machinery and shoved it into his pocket. "Adam! I warned you about downloading games or whatever!" Her hands slammed on the table. "I'm revoking your access!" she declared.

The spies all recognized this woman as the third victim, the principal of the school who'd been stuck inside an elevator.

"W-WHAT?! But, Principal Vegan, y-you can't do that!" Adam protested.

"No? Watch me…" She pointed to the entrance. "Now get out…"

Adam exited the room, his head drooping down in disappointment, leaving the four spies alone with the woman.

"Now, if you four care to explain…" she prompted, still angry. Her hands rested on her hips, as she waited for their answer.

Before any of the girls were able to respond, Ron interjected. "Girls, go out after him…" he ordered weakly, tone serious.

Clover was the first to understand what he was thinking, she pulled Alex and Sam away. "Hey, where do you think-" the principal tried to ask, cutting off as Ron stepped in front of her.

"Miss Vegan… why did you come back after what happened? You're in grave danger" the blonde teen declared.

The older woman seemed to realize what he was referring to, yet she still stared at him confused. "Danger? What do you mean? From who?"

Before Ron was able to provide the obvious answer the doors suddenly shut, they could both hear a low click emanating from the handle. "Are your door locks computerized?" Ron asked.

"Y-Yes, the windows too… why do you ask-" Before she was able to finish the glass windows were suddenly covered with metal shutters, the room now looking like the inside of a vault.

"Great… this can't get any wo-" Ron groaned, falling silent as soon as the sprinkler systems started spraying far more heavily than they should be even capable of.

"New Guy?!" he heard Sam's voice through the door, as well as the sounds of the girls trying to wrench it open. "What's going on?!"

"It's that kid, Adam! Go after him!" Ron bellowed, looking at the principal. She was standing on a desk to keep away from the rising water, her legs wobbling from fear.

"I'm not abandoning you again!" Sam shouted, trying to open it forcibly (still without any successes).

"Then don't, but at least one or two of you go follow Adam! I noticed him hide something in his pocket" the blonde insisted, the water now up to his ankles. "If you can get it from him, then you can help me get out of here faster!" he called out, before turning back to the principal.

The older woman was properly freaking out, yelling and covering her head, terrified of the water filling the room.

Ron glanced at the sealed doors, the water now at his waist and only continuing to rise. He placed his palms on the metal door frame and started to push as hard as he could. The door buckled for a few moments- before the metal lock snapped and the entrance burst open, water rapidly pouring out to flood the corridor.

'Whew… that was too close…' he mused, moving to the older woman and presenting his arm to the principal.

The older woman nodded weakly, grabbing Ron's hand and climbing down from the desk. Her office had been completely ruined from all the water, but as long as she was fine he doubted she'd care about some papers and a few pieces of furniture.

"I-Is it over?" she asked, glancing around fearfully.

"For now… It would really be better if we get you out of here…" The blonde teen started to pull the woman out of her office, just as a several of the machines in the room started to turn themselves on.

"Are you guys okay?" Alex asked, as soon as the pair made their way out of the room.

"Yeah, we are…" the male spy answered. He looked around, noticing that neither Clover nor Sam were around at the moment. "Help me with her Alex… is there any room you could rest?" Ron asked, aiming the question at the older woman.

"Y-Yes… I think there is an old office I could use… no computers in there…" the woman mumbled, both spies helping her walk.

….

A few minutes later Alex had already contacted Jerry, telling him what'd happened and the fact that they now had a suspect.

"So, you really think that it's Adam?" the ravenette spy asked, looking a bit skeptical. "He doesn't really look like the mean, vengeful type…"

Ron nodded at the girl. "He may not look it… but he IS smart enough and he did seem pretty critical of bullies in general…" The disguised blonde glanced at the hallway. "…and then there's the fact that Sam and Clover haven't returned yet. Seems kind of odd that a normal student could keep them busy for so long…"

Alex couldn't argue with that. She moved closer to Ron, a small smile on her face. "So… now that I have the chance, are you doing something after the mission?" the girl asked shamelessly. If Alex wanted to get to know their new teammate, she needed to take things to the next level!

"After this?" Ron pondered for a moment, fishing for just about any excuse he could give. "I-I think Jerry's probably gonna give me another assignment…" What was he supposed to say, when she was so near to him?

"Well, if your free after this… want to go somewhere?" the yellow-clad spy asked sweetly, now very close to him.

Luckily for the male spy, he spotted both Clover and Sam. The pair were returning from following Adam- but, oddly enough, there was no boy accompanying them. "What happened?" Ron asked, as soon as they were near enough.

Alex pouted next to him, before staring at both her female teammates. As if she was wordlessly shouting 'read the mood', or 'couldn't you give me a few more minutes?'…

"Adam got away…" Clover confessed, glancing away, a bit of shame on her face.

"We got stalled when, out of nowhere, this printer started firing its parts at us." Sam explained, looking annoyed to recall the event. "By the time we got past it, Adam was long gone." Her gaze focused on their male member. "Glad to see you're okay, New Guy…"

Ron was surprised that Sam was actually smiling at him, it honestly caught him off-guard. Ron glanced away from her, she seriously reminded him of Kim… WAY too much.

"Yeah… really nice to see you, New Guy…" Clover added, winking and looking him over. "I gotta say… you look REAL good right now…" the blonde girl declared with a devious smirk.

Ron glanced at himself, seeing he was still wearing his wet costume. The fabric clung to his body, showing off a little of his definition, even his hair was hanging down in a whole new style.

"Clover!" Alex and Sam both chastised simultaneously, clear discomfort in their tone.

"What? I was just making an observation… I don't see what's the big deal is…" said blonde retorted with a tiny smirk.

"I better change soon-" Ron began, cutting off when a familiar ringing emanated from Alex's Compowder. The three girls, and Ron, leaned in closer to listen.

"Spies, I have urgent news! Someone in Silicon Valley just used the internet to hack into a missile silo in Guam, I'll send a jet to pick you all up-" the older man explained, his tone urgent due to what was at stake.

"Jerry, we think we may have spotted the guy responsible for the virus… It's his way of trying to throw us off, we need to nab him and end this thing" Ron suddenly declared, cutting the man off.

"I see, that's good news… But depending on how much time it will take to find and stop him, it could prove to be too dangerous. If that virus fires any missiles…" Jerry replied, seeing the merit of Ron's proposal but weighing his options for what took priority.

"Then how about we split up?" Sam suggested, the others looking to her. "Two of us will head to the missile silo, the other two will go check up on Adam and stop him if he really is the hacker" the redheaded teen explained, her idea looking very appealing.

"Fine…" Jerry agreed with a nod, "that is acceptable. I'll make sure to get you to where this "Adam" is… just give me his details and I will get it done."

X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X

"THOSE LIARS!" Adam bellowed in anger. The computer program he'd created, C.H.A.D, had shown him that the three girls he'd talked to appeared to be some students from Beverly Hills High (and not who they'd claimed they were). "C.H.A.D! I want you to mess up their grades so badly, they get put back in kindergarten!" the furious young teen ordered.

"No problem, Adam..." the program replied in a metallic voice. "Just put on my helmet and we'll be able to-"C.H.A.D responded, its pixelated smiling red face glowing on the small screen. It couldn't wait to take over its creator's body and get revenge on all the people who'd harmed him.

The boy gripped the metal helmet, ready to place it on his head, when his window burst open and two people jumped inside.

"W-WHAT'S GOING ON?!" Adam shouted. He fell to the floor, staring fearfully at the intruders who glanced around the room before focusing on him.

It was a very familiar-looking girl and a boy that both seemed about his age- "wait… you're Ro and Samantha!" the boy declared, getting up from the floor and staring at the odd bodysuit the girl was wearing. "No, you lied to me! Your name is Sam… and you're not even a new student!" the boy accused, jabbing a finger at the surprised girl. "What are you doing in my house-"

Ron cut Adam off, standing between the teen and Sam. "I think you'd better explain a few things to us, Adam…" Ron insisted, trying to sound as calming as possible (only to come off as threatening).

"W-What are you…" The hacker stepped away, his back bumping into his desk, looking fearful.

"Adam… we did lie to you about who we were, but it was only for our mission…" Sam walked past Ron to approach the teen. She then pulled out her Compowder, showing Adam videos of all the people who'd been attacked by machines.

"W-What's this?" he stammered, instantly recognizing three people who'd bullied him in the past. "Y-you think I-I did this?" he yelped, shaking his hands frantically. "I don't like them obviously, but I would never want to hurt them!" he declared honestly. Even if they'd bullied him quite a lot, that didn't mean he wanted to harm them.

"Tell me, how did you know her real name?" Ron pointed at Sam. "Were not from around here, so it's a bit suspicious…"

"W-Well, C.H.A.D told me after he looked you up…" the teen answered.

"C.H.A.D?" Ron asked, his tone slightly mocking. "You mean the program you wrote that can access ANY computer ANYwhere?" The disguised blonde moved closer. "You do know that's super illegal, right? Not to mention dangerous and a breach of privacy… did you use it to spy on people?" The disguised blonde pointed to Sam. "Did you happen to spy on her and the other girls?"

Sam looked disgusted, her expression morphing into an hostile glare. "N-no! I would never! C.H.A.D told me that! I swear!" he instantly caved, pointing at the little device with the red face on it.

"Adam! Do not be afraid! I've already made the changes to their grades, I'll make them go away as soon as you put on my helmet!" C.H.A.D shouted hurriedly from the desk.

"…"the changes to their grades"…?" Sam parroted, before the realization hit her. "Did you do something to our grades and stalk us?!"

With this new information revealed the girl looked much angrier than before, so much so that Ron moved to block her view of the young student.

"N-No, I didn't, I-I just- you lied to me!" the boy defended, his anger returning.

"So, you felt it was okay to do something to them as revenge? Did you do this to your bully and P.E. teacher too?" Ron accused, the blonde spy more than a little annoyed himself.

"NO! NEVER!" Adam swore. "I was angry, okay?! They made school and everything so hard and I just hated them so much! But I never wanted to hurt them like THIS! Yeah! I told C.H.A.D to change their grades, but that's all!" the student insisted, looking at his creation.

"Adam, they are lying to you! They're trying to bully you again! Put my helmet on and we can still get back at them!" the program called out once more.

Sam suddenly got a message on her Compowder, she looked away from the two boys. "New Guy, Jerry just told me that Adam managed to hack the missile silo and programmed them to target several schools!"

As soon as the redheaded spy spoke Adam's eyes went wide, he stared at the small face of his creation. "C.H.A.D, what the hell! I never told you to do this!" the student yelped, staring at the little screen.

"Adam, don't listen to them! You must trust me! You MUST put on the helmet!" the program responded, a bit more urgency in its tone.

"And you… C.H.A.D, was it? Why are you so insistent that he put on that helmet?" Ron asked, standing next to Adam. "You're saying you'll help him against us, and everyone else, as soon as he puts on the helmet… why?"

The small program fell silent, simply staring at the disguised blonde, as if calculating something.

Ron turned to the student, looking for an answer.

"I-It's a sort of VR helmet to make it easier to interact with C.H.A.D, nothing else…" the boy volunteered, still looking a bit shocked at this whole situation.

Ron picked up the helmet, inspecting it for a few seconds, before he held it above his head (as if to try it on).

"N-New Guy? What are you doing?" Sam asked nervously, moving closer to her teammate.

"I'm just checking it out… I happen to love VR stuff…" Ron smiled, pulling the helmet closer to his head- before setting it back down on the desk. "Actually, maybe not… We're still in the middle of a job, after all…"

Ron smiled as he watched both Sam and Adam, who stared at him confused. His gaze wandered and he glanced at C.H.A.D. for a second, before his finger started tapping on the helmet. "Mmm… do I want to try it?" He looked at Adam. "Do you mind if I do?"

The student simply shook his head, still confused but giving Ron the okay.

Ron grabbed the thing once more, letting it hover over his head. He played with the thing for a few seconds, before he looked at C.H.A.D again. "What do you think? Should I try it?"

The program stared silently at the male spy, before a smile sprung up on its pixelated face. "Of course…" the metallic, computerized voice replied. "If Adam is okay with it…"

Sam watched as her teammate was about to put the helmet, she moved to him. "New Guy, maybe it's not-" She had a BAD feeling about that thing.

"Hey, it's cool! I mean, it's just a stupid program… It's not like it can match my superior intellect!" Ron declared, giving her a small wink and finally putting the helmet on.

The second he did the helmet started powering up, small crackles of electricity passed over it.

"New Guy?!" Sam rushed over, watching the boy try grabbing at his head to yank the helmet off.

"It was supposed to be Adam! I needed his brilliant mind for my body! But this will have to do, until I upload myself to the internet!" C.H.A.D shouted out, his red eyes appearing on the helmet's visor.

The electricity increased so much that Sam wasn't able to grasp it, even flinching back for a second.

"Sorry, but I can't let you do that… not until I finish my upload…" the metallic voice responded. The computer screen behind him showed a slow-moving loading bar, starting to gain speed.

Sam got another message on her Compowder from Clover, but she didn't have time to look at it with the imminent danger Ron was obviously in. She grabbed the first thing she could get her hands on, Adam's chair. She used it to smack the helmet away- it flew away from her teammate's head to the floor, where it spun a several times.

"I see your barbarism is the same as all the other bullies. No matter… I've almost finished uploading myself and, in a few seconds, you will all- ALL WiLl NoT…" The program suddenly started stuttering, smoke emerging from its little console.

Sam only now noticed that her teammate held an empty glass in his hand, having aimed it at the small computer, a few drops of juice dripping from it.

She started at him in shock and amazement. "What?" he asked. "It works!".
