Callie
A blaring noise woke her up at the butt crack of dawn. A noise that would send most people tumbling out of bed and on the floor. But Callie had learnt to anticipate the wake up call after the first couple of times she hit her head on the nightstand. Or, there were mornings like this when she was usually awake before it had the chance to do its job.
Her blood sugar was low.
Yeah, exercising, sticking to a clean, balanced as possible diet, and taking her vitimins and medications helped a lot, but some days took a little more effort. Callie felt exhausted. A night of insomnia usually did that, but she hopped out of bed.
"Can't get me today. I got up first", she said with smile while turning off the alarm before it started. It kinda turned into a game when she had trouble sleeping.
She changed into a pair of sweat pants and a hoodie, one of her sister's she took when she moved out.
Callie made it into the kitchen and got herself a glass of water to take with her meds, since they seemed more effective first thing in the morning. Then she got to making breakfast which was normally some cereal and juice since most other things she would have to clean up before she left for work and make her late.
Taking a seat at the kitchen island, her time to think of all of the things she wanted to go through with the kids at school was now. She wanted her classes, if no other, to give the students some reason to look forward to school.
She also really wanted them to see that P.E. is more than just a strategic way to torture them and that it actually opened doors to paths they probably wouldn't have seen themselves taking.
After breakfast Callie got up and started on her way to get ready for the day. Yes, she was a little sluggish and tired, but knowing she was doing something impactful gave her drive.
Arizona
The sun was just beginning to rise. It gave the sky just the right lighting, this beautiful orange, purple blend.
Sat on the balcony chair in a robe, cup in hand, this is the way Arizona Robbins started every morning. It reminded her that everyday, without fail, life went on. The sunrise in the morning represented a new day, you decide what u do with that day and she wanted to make good use of each day she was given.
Some days it wasn't about her.
Sometimes it was about listening to a friend or student who trusted her enough vent.
Sometimes it was simply hearing two passionate students in one of her classes argue points opposing in every way, yet, each explanation for their reasoning just as logical and thought through as the other.
Sometimes it was about reading and gaining insight from another writer. Seeing their perception of events in life.
"Ok", she said with a sigh.
"Time to get going, can't be late for the first day."
Right Pop?", she was speaking to the Great Dane sitting next to her as she pat his head.
Pop just whined in response.
"Come on, don't do that. We talked about this", she had been trying to get him to adjust to not having her home as often.
Arizona opened the slid glass door and started to get her things together to get ready for the day.
Fingers crossed this would be the beginning of something good.
