Smurfocalypse Chapter 27: The March to Port Saint Smurf

The promising new home of the Smurfs was getting closer and closer. There was only one last day of travel left and all the Smurfs were still mourning. Papa Smurf especially was taking this hard, he hadn't eaten or said much since the incident and Brainy was beginning to worry about him. Brainy's last friend in the entire world was Papa Smurf, and he didn't want to lose him.

"Come on Papa Smurf please, please eat something." Brainy pleaded as he offered Papa Smurf food while they were walking.

Papa Smurf did not respond though and continued to walk as though Brainy wasn't even there.

"Papa Smurf please!" Brainy said as he shoved the food into Papa Smurf's hands.

Papa Smurf just dropped the food and walked around Brainy.

"Papa Smurf I-" Brainy said.

"Take a hint Brainy will you? Can't you see Papa Smurf needs to be alone?" Hefty said.

"Yeah but..." Brainy said.

"Just give him some time." Hefty said.

Brainy just hung his head and kept walking. Normally he would always have Clumsy with him, but with Clumsy gone Brainy has been feeling very lonely. Falconer Smurf walked by and put a hand on his shoulder.

"I know Clumsy was important to you… I'm sorry. He was a great Smurf." Falconer said.

Brainy broke down into tears again fogging his glasses and forcing him to remove them. There wasn't a Smurf alive who cared about him anymore it seemed in his head. Brainy wasn't the only one visibly mourning either. Every Smurf present lost a friend that was close to them. Falconer and Archer were the only Smurfs left of their entire village. Brothers were torn apart, friends forever separated, lost forever in the flames. There was much healing that needed to be done, but everyone continued to press on putting their trust in Hefty and Tracker.

"Whatever that thing was that threw the fireballs it must have scared off the demons." Hefty said.

"I agree but yet I find it strange that we haven't been attacked in so long." Tuffy says.

"I have a bad feeling in the pit of my Smurf. I'm going to send Zarus forward to scout out the area." Falconer said as he released his falcon from his arm.

"That's some Smurfy thinking Falconer." Hefty said.

Hefty continued to lead the way right next to Tracker as Zarus the falcon flew above them gradually picking up speed before taking off far ahead of them.

"Tell us more about this place Tracker." Hefty said.

"Gladly. It's an abandoned human town with buildings, and walls with a gate. There's plenty of space for us to build a new village. Everything is human sized so we can probably all stay in one house." Tracker said.

"We will all be staying in the same house for the first few nights." Hefty said.

"That's a relief… I'll feel so much safer knowing we will be together." Carpenter said.

"It is a human town so it's very big there's a lot of space. Sticking together is smart even within safe walls." Tracker said.

"How does all of this sound to you Papa Smurf?" Reporter asked curiously.

There was no response from Papa Smurf. He just kept walking not saying a word and staring at the ground. His behavior was beginning to worry everyone, but it was clear Papa Smurf was very much deep in thought.

"I'm really worried about Papa Smurf…" Brainy says.

"Papa Smurf will come around. If he didn't think what we were planning was right he'd say something." Hefty said.

"You're probably right." Handy said.

A few hours of travel later Zarus returned to Falconer just as the walls of the port town were just becoming visible. The bird landed on Falconer's arm and leaned in to communicate with the Smurf.

"Hold on Smurfs Zarus has something to say." Falconer said.

All the Smurfs stopped and everyone's attention was drawn to Falconer who was looking rather troubled by what he had just learned.

"The towns been overrun." Falconer said.

"You've got to be smurfing me!" Tailor said.

"Is there no place on earth that is safe?" Brainy asked.

"Calm down all of you. This isn't defeat just yet. How many are there?" Hefty said.

"About twenty, but they are about our size." Falconer said.

"Twenty demons? There's only twenty seven of us left!" Brainy said.

"Smurf up Brainy!" Potter shouted.

"This is what I have been training you Smurfs for. We even did a training simulation just like this remember?" Hefty said.

"I do remember that." Farmer said

"But there was more of us then Hefty." Archer said.

"It doesn't matter because you all passed that scenario… except Tuffy who never shows up to training." Hefty says.

"Who needs training? We all know I'm strong." Tuffy says.

"Training is just like lifting weights Tuffy. You have to keep at it or it will become harder the next time you try it." Hefty said.

Tuffy just waved him off.

"So… are we doing this?" Timber asked.

"It'll be simple. We go in, we route the enemy, and the town is ours." Hefty said.

The fact Hefty seemed so confident about this made the morale of his fighters increase. Maybe there was something left for them in this crazy world after all. In the next chapter Hefty will bravely lead his knights into their first real battle in a long time.
