Smurfocalypse Chapter 29: A New Start
It was a cold rainy morning the day they laid Tuffy to rest. They placed his sword and his helmet on his grave to let the world know he was a brave knight to the end. There was a spot near the right side of town near the walls where they had decided to make what was currently a one Smurf cemetery. There wasn't much talk since the Smurfs had moved into the town. Every Smurf was in bad shape emotionally Hefty included as he had just buried one of his best friends. There was no motivation to do anything but sit around inside the house they had decided to hole up in. This was truly a dark time in their history.
Papa Smurf was going to attempt to contact Dreamy one last time now that they've moved again. He wrote everything that happened up to this point into a letter and provided coordinates to the location of Port Saint Smurf and tied the letter to the foot of a smurfberry bird before releasing it. The bird flew off towards the ocean and into the horizon.
"You really think they're still alive?" Brainy asked.
"With Dreamy? They were all dead from the start. Why do you think I didn't sign up to join them?" carpenter said.
"If Dreamy does come back we will have a Smurfberry crop again. I've already sectioned out a place for my farm." Farmer said.
"Luckily the humans left behind enough of their food to last us the winter." Tracker said.
"It's human food though so there is meat isn't there?" Chef asked.
"I know we aren't too big on meat, but we may have no choice." Hefty said.
"We live near the ocean now. Maybe we could try eating fish?" Sweepy asked.
"That will have to wait. I've never started a village before. None of us have really. We need to figure out the important stuff and do that first." Hefty said.
"Right, like firin up the ol forge." Blacksmith said.
"And seeing if the kitchen works." Chef said.
The Smurfs had been doing a decent job figuring things out for themselves which definitely did not go unnoticed by Papa Smurf who has just been letting them do their own thing lately. He is testing them to see how well they could do on their own in the event of his death. He didn't make provide any sort of input at all for anything being talked about. He just observed and was quite impressed with Hefty's ability to take charge and think quickly on his feet. It seems there was more to Hefty than just muscle and had all of this never happened he may have never discovered his leadership skills.
"Actually since this is a human house there should be a kitchen in here." Brainy said.
"Ah that's right humans don't share meals with each other they just eat alone in their houses." Timber said.
"What a sad and lonely life that must be…" Reporter said.
"It's gonna be a cold one tonight. We should fire up the fireplace." Hefty said.
"There's wood out back leaning against the house." Timber said.
"Let's go get some. Farmer you come with us." Hefty said.
"I'm on it." Farmer said.
Timber, Farmer, and Hefty went outside the house to collect firewood located just out back. The gate was tightly shut and the house was close enough to the gate that it could be watched in case anyone returned for whatever reason. The house they are staying in is the same house that they cleared when they entered to fight. It's a large two story building facing the front gate with a road leading up to it. It was inside this house that the Smurfs were hiding out until they could get to build their own structures. The three Smurfs gathered as much wood as they could and headed inside to place it near the fireplace. There was more planning going on as the urge to start a project and push all that's happened out their minds was becoming the more popular idea. Surprisingly after a few days of mourning most of the Smurfs were ready to move forward and start thinking about work once again.
