Disclaimer: I own nothing but my OCs.
A/N: Oh wow. It's been a while since I did this. Let's see...my last update on this site was...Oh gods, three years ago. Damn. Anyway, I'm trying to get back into the swing of writing so I figured I'd hop onto the RWBY/Arkham series trend. Shout out to Sai Kunai Blade for this challenge. I just thought I'd give it the twist of using one of the less prominent characters in the series. (I can already hear Freelancer Amber shouting "WASTED POTENTIAL" in the background)
Now, here are some ground rules for this series, since I plan on also covering City and Knight. I'm going to avoid having members of the BatFam get together, even though Knight ends with Oracle and Tim Drake getting married. Also, and this is the more prominent thing, there will be ZERO acknowledgement of the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game. None. Zip. Zilch. That game is so far removed from the stakes and setting of the Arkham games that it frustrates me how much the devs insist it's supposed to be the definitive next step in the canon. As such, nothing from that game will be featured in this story or any future stories (depending on whether I decided to break this story up based on the games or just do one long story).
One last thing to mention is that there will be several OCs featured in prominent roles, namely in Sienna's backstory. Speaking of, since there is so little material depicting Sienna's canon story, I'm going to take some liberties with it, so bear with me.
Also, RWBY LIVES! YES!
Anyway, that's all for now. Let's begin.
Sienna Khan could feel herself drifting through the void. If one were to ask, she'd liken it to being submerged in the ocean and being tugged back and forth by the churning current. Yet she couldn't feel her fingers or toes, or move her limbs at all really. As she drifted aimlessly, she had time to contemplate the last few minutes. Her comrades in arms had turned on her for that fool Adam Taurus, right before he promptly stabbed her in the abdomen, completely and instantly burning through her aura and cutting her down.
Part of her deeply regretted letting Adam amass so much power. He wielded it no differently from how that rich bastard Jacques Schnee flaunted his control of the Schnee Dust Company. Perhaps if she herself had been in a better mindset, and maybe if...she hadn't been lost in her grief, Sienna might have seen the writing on the wall that Adam was only really in it for his own lust for vengeance.
Sienna paused in her thoughts at the memory. The person she'd loved above all others...taken from her far too soon by those monstrous humans. Suddenly, sensation returned to Sienna's hands as they clenched tightly into fists. She felt hot tears sting her eyes as the thoughts of her beloved filled her head. Then it occurred to her that if she was dead, it meant she'd be reunited with her love. Hope swelled in the Tiger Faunus' soul.
Sienna paused as she became aware of a tingling sensation developing in her limbs. She looked down at her arms and legs and found that she could move again. A light down below her shimmered into view, and she instinctively started swimming down toward it. The closer she got to the light, the brighter everything became. She reached out with her arm towards the light, and it filled her vision.
With a gasp, Sienna's eyes widened and she sat bolt upright, her heart pounding in her chest. She frantically felt around her abdomen, and was both relieved and mildly disturbed to find a patch of abrasive skin right where she'd felt Adam's blade pierce her. No doubt a scar which would permanently remind her of what had happened. As she calmed her nerves, she slowly stood to her feet, noting briefly that her Cerberus whip was coiled around her right arm (though strangely, there was only one blade attached and she couldn't see any Dust present).
As the Tigress scanned her surroundings, she became immediately aware of the fact that it was nighttime, and that she was in a dark alleyway that formed a circle within several buildings. She started walking towards the sound of traffic, running her hand across the rough brick wall of one building. She frowned at the amateurish graffiti depicting a wide smile with the phrase "Send in the clowns" beneath it, briefly wondering who would leave such a tactless message.
Her left Faunus ear suddenly twitched, picking up sounds behind her. She didn't need to turn around to recognize the sounds of footprints. Three sets of footsteps approached her from behind, and she stopped walking to gauge their intentions.
"Hey, hot stuff." One of the men called out. Ah, how predictable, Sienna mused silently, somewhat unsurprised by the crass language. "It's not often we get Metas in this city. You new here, doll?"
Sienna chose to shelve the fact that he'd called her a "Meta", whatever that was, and focus on his surprisingly accurate statement about her being new. "As a matter of fact," She replied flatly. "I am." She turned around to take in the three figures approaching her. As she suspected, they were all carrying baseball bats and sporting dingy clothes. The center figure, whom Sienna deduced had been the one to call her a Meta, smiled lecherously at her.
"Well then, looks like today's your lucky day, beautiful~" He winked at her, sending a wave of nausea and anger through her body. "I'd be happy to show you 'round Gotham...for the right price."
The tiger Faunus felt her anger rising further. "That price is going to be your arm if you don't back off." She warned. She detested jumping straight to violence, even with humans. She wasn't like that brute Adam, but she wouldn't be opposed to breaking teeth if these hoodlums kept pushing their luck.
Unsurprisingly, the man was either too stupid or too cocky to take her threat seriously, because he started laughing. "Ha, you hear that, guys? She thinks she can take us." He slung his bat over his shoulder as he looked at her. "That's cute, really, it is. But a pretty thing like you shouldn't be out on the streets...all alone."
Sienna decided to reign in her rising frustration and try being polite. "Your concern is appreciated, but not warranted." She said tersely. "I can assure you, I'm more than capable of looking out for myself." She made a move to leave when she felt him grab her arm tightly.
"Listen, doll." He growled, any pretense of generosity gone from his voice. "I'm not taking no for an answer. So do the right thing and just let this happen. Okay?"
Sienna felt the last thread of patience within her snap, and she narrowed her eyes at him, her tiger ears tucking in with rage. "You have two seconds to get that filthy hand off of me."
The man actually laughed. "Yeah right. What could you poss-"
BAM!
The man was lifted off the ground as Sienna uppercutted his chin with her free hand. He bounced off the pavement once and then lay still. His goons, and Sienna for that matter, stood there in shock, wondering if she'd actually killed him, or at the very least left him permanently damaged. Their fears were assuaged when, a moment later, the thug rose to a seated position. He groaned loudly and massaged his jaw, before glaring at Sienna angrily. "Well don't just stand there you idiots! Get her!"
That was all Sienna needed to hear. She drew her Cerberus whip, striking both thugs instantly. The blade at the end of her weapon sliced through their rudimentary armor, leaving painful red slashes across their bodies. Sienna felt her Semblance, Grudge, activate. Her focus became sharper and she could practically feel her muscles tightening. She felt like a beast, and a ferocious smile crept onto her face.
Her ears alerted her to more movement. Of course the three of them had back up. Sienna tsked and coiled up her whip. It had occurred to her that none of the three thugs she'd already dispatched had their Aura unlocked, which was likely contributing to her semblance feeling stronger than usual. But it didn't matter. She was in the zone, and there was plenty of fresh meat to go around.
Within moments, the rest of the gang had filled the area, most either unarmed or wielding various crude weapons. Sienna glanced down at the two thugs groaning on the ground with slashes across their bodies. As much as she recognized that she needed to send a message to these fools, she didn't want to kill anyone. Letting this little lesson haunt their dreams would be much more effective...and satisfying.
For a tense moment, nobody moved. A few thugs raised their weapons or shifted from foot to foot, but they seemed hesitant to make a move. Sienna beat them to it. She dove forward, diving into a roll and kicking with both feet, sending a thug armed with brass knuckles flailing through the air into a dumpster. The rest of the gang took that as their cue to attack. But by then, there was little they could do.
Sienna moved with all the grace and ferocity of her tiger lineage. Even as the thugs attempted to overwhelm her with their superior numbers. But it didn't matter. Sienna was a blur of movement, striking each of them with a punch or a kick that sent them sprawling. One thug got lucky and had time to swing his baseball bat at her, but she drew her whip again, using a segment of it to parry the attack. With a deft maneuver she wrenched the bat out of the man's hand and swung it around, striking the man in the nether regions with it.
As the man went down, whining in an octave not normally attainable by a man's vocal cords, Sienna was alerted to a final attacker drawing a gun. She drew her whip again and swung it out. The blade at the end of her weapon struck true, lashing the back of the man's hand with a clean cut. The man's shot went wide, hitting a dumpster. The man fell, clutching his sliced hand. The cut wasn't lethal, but Sienna could tell from the man's scream that it was painful. The tigress didn't give the man a chance to retaliate before sprinting towards him and slamming her knee into his face. A tooth came loose and fell nearby as the man's head whipped backwards and he lay still, sprawled out on the ground as if he were about to make a snow angel.
Sienna huffed as she took stock of her surroundings. In total, twelve unconscious gangsters surrounded her, their bodies covered in cuts and bruises. Only now, once the risk of harm was gone, did she stop to consider the strangeness that none of the men had their Aura unlocked. Surely that would have given them a little bit of a leg up. She shook her head. Not every gang out there even bothered with Aura. Many she'd had the misfortune of crossing paths with saw it as a crutch. In their eyes, being able to fight without Aura was seen as intimidating. Or, at least, it would be, if the individuals in question had anything beyond basic fighting skill.
Satisfied that she'd dispatched her opponents, she started to make her way out of the alley. The leader of this little gang had mentioned she was in "Gotham City." The name was unfamiliar to her, and the gothic infrastructure was equally foreign to her. She may not have the most intimate knowledge of her world's geography, but she was near certain she would have heard of "Gotham City" before.
"FREEZE!"
Her thoughts were interrupted by red and blue lights, and a loud voice speaking over a megaphone. She looked up to see the entrance of the alley way surrounded by dozens of cops, no doubt drawn to the scene because of her fight and the subsequent gunshots. Their cars were all decorated with the initials "GCPD." Sienna mentally gauged her Aura levels. She was still relatively well off in that regard, so fighting her way through these officers wasn't out of the question. She could easily escape if she had to.
"Don't move." One officer warned, his pistol trained on her. "We will shoot."
Sienna scoffed. She reached for her whip, when the clouds parted and she caught sight of the moon. Normally it wouldn't warrant more than a few seconds of her attention, but something about it immediately caught her by complete surprise. The moon...was intact. Her eyes widened as she stared at the moon in disbelief. That...that wasn't possible. Her arms went slack, as she found herself unable to make sense of this new development.
The officer that had spoken caught notice of her stupor, and turned a curious eye to the moon. The hostility in his voice seemed to vanish as he turned to look at her again. "Ma'am?" He asked, shaking her out of her stupor. "Is something wrong?"
Sienna blinked, looking the man in the eye. "The moon...why does it look like that?"
The officer looked at her with a puzzled expression. "What are you talking about?" He asked, though he didn't seem to be ridiculing her. "It's always looked like that."
Sienna seemed to realize something as that statement settled in her head. The moon not being shattered, the unfamiliar city, the lack of Aura, the fact that no one seemed to identify her as a Faunus...a theory was developing in her head, even though it seemed impossible. She turned to face the officer. She could identify from his badge that his name was Murphy. "I surrender."
Officer Murphy did a double take, as if he hadn't expected her to give up so easily. But nonetheless, he stepped forward, his gun still trained on her. Naturally, she assumed that he believed her and was just following protocol at this point. He reached up and carefully removed her Cerberus Whip from its place on her belt, while a second officer carefully brought her hands down to behind her back and cuffed her. Officer Murphy took her by the arm and lead her into the back of his car as a handful of officers rushed into the alleyway.
A few minutes later, Sienna was still seated in the back of the car, watching as the officers lead the semiconscious thugs from earlier into medical trucks, having stripped them of their weapons of course. Officer Murphy approached the car and sat in the driver's seat. "You know, you did a number on those guys."
Sienna scoffed. "They made me an offer I had to refuse."
Murphy snorted. "I bet." He smiled. "But you know what, I don't blame you. Though I gotta ask..." He held up her weapon, which was sitting in the passenger seat. "Where'd you get something like this?"
"I made it myself." Sienna replied, curtly.
The officer whistled as he set the weapon down and started the car. "Gotta say, I'm impressed with the craftsmanship. My brother owns a blacksmith shop in Virginia. Makes a lot of cool swords and weapons for Renaissance fairs and stuff. He'd be impressed with this thing too."
Sienna would admit, it was odd to have a human act so polite, especially a cop. But she had to also admit that she liked that he had a good eye for weapons. "Thanks." A thought occurred to her as she watched the gang leader get put in the truck. "That one...he called me a 'Meta.' What exactly does that mean?"
Murphy looked at the man as he was put away, and then back at her. "It's short for 'Metahuman.'" He explained. "Basically, it describes any human with enhanced abilities, like Poison Ivy or Clayface."
Sienna frowned at the names. She could only imagine what their deals were. But she still bristled slightly at the realization that she had been called a human. "I'm not a human." She explained in a clipped tone. "I'm a Faunus. A humanoid being with animalistic traits."
Murphy' eyebrows rose at her tone, but he otherwise didn't seem fazed by her explanation. "That would explain the ears and the stripes." He put the car into drive and pulled away.
"Well," Sienna added. "Technically, Faunus only have one external trait. For me, that would be my ears. The stripes are tattoos."
Officer Murphy' eyes widened. "Oh shit, they are?" He asked. "That must have been agony to sit through."
Despite the oddness of the situation, Sienna couldn't help but chuckle. "It was." She admitted. "Five straight hours of lying down on my stomach and back. And my whole body ached for days afterwards."
The officer shook his head as he drove. "You're tougher than me, for sure." He lifted his arm, revealing a snake tattoo coiling around his arm. "I'm a Righty, so I couldn't use this arm to write for a week. I can't imagine how bad it would be if I had to deal with full body tats."
Sienna smirked. With how humans usually acted around her, especially those in law enforcement, to have such a casual conversation with someone like Murphy was certainly a breath of fresh air.
Murphy seemed to contemplate something. "Hey, by the way, I gotta ask you something."
Sienna looked up at him. "What is it?"
The officer cleared his throat. "You looked ready to either book it or fight." He explained. "Then you saw the moon. Why'd that make you give up so easily?"
Sienna took a second to think about it, looking out the window at the untarnished moon sitting high in the sky, seemingly mocking her. "I grew up in a world with a Moon that was shattered. I died, I know I did. I don't know how, but somehow I came back to life in another world. I could have easily escaped, or fought my way out, you're right. But...I think it would be easier for me to get the answers I seek if I play along, at least for now."
Murphy nodded. It was hardly the weirdest story he'd heard, given that he'd seen an alien fly through the sky and a man run fast enough to outrun light. A tiger woman claiming to be from another world was maybe only the seventh strangest thing he'd heard of. He chuckled. "Yeah, well, whatever cosmic force sent you to this world couldn't have picked a worse place for you to end up."
Sienna frowned. "So it would appear." She muttered
Murphy chuckled. "Welcome to Gotham City." He said cheerily, though Sienna suspected it was at least partially sarcastic.
Then the radio crackled. "All units, proceed to Gotham City Hall." The voice on the other end ordered. "The Joker has been apprehended. Batman is en route to Arkham Island."
Murphy's face went pale, but he reached for his speaker and talked into it. "This is Officer Murphy. I'm on my way." He hung up the radio and glanced at her through the mirror. "Well, guess there's a change of plans. We're going to Arkham Asylum."
Sienna frowned. "But didn't the dispatcher just order all units to go to City Hall?" She argued.
Murphy nodded. "Yes." He replied. "But I have a feeling you're gonna be needed at Arkham. I'll drop you off there and head over to City Hall afterwards."
Sienna watched as the car rolled down the road, passing a grim looking statue and a sign with the word "Arkham" on it. A sign below it read "Hitchhikers may be escaped patients." The Faunus woman frowned. She didn't quite know what to make of that detail, or what it implied about the facility she was heading towards. As the macabre looking facility came into view, Sienna took a deep breath. It seemed the night was only just getting started.
A/N: And, I'm officially back. I'm going to try keeping a consistent schedule for releasing chapters. But...we'll have to wait and see. Originally I had it written that the individual links in the chain of Sienna's weapons had spikes or barbs on them, but looking back at official artwork and screenshots of Sienna wielding her weapon, it appears to just be a regular chain with the three blades on the end. Also, for the sake of this story, her weapon will only have one blade fixed to the end, rather than three that can be detached. And of course, she doesn't have access to Dust, since it doesn't exist on Earth and she'd have blown through her supply very quickly anyway.
With that said, next time, Sienna meets Batman. We can only hope she's not too mad at him appropriating her culture.
And as always, please be sure to review, favorite, and follow. See you next time.
