Chapter8: Changes
The next day Gohan is in school yesterday he heard a lot of information but he was not surprised but interested in why out of all kara refused batman's order to spy on him now Gohan was looking at kara not knowing why she refused he thought she would took the side of the league to capture him.
He gazed at her whole day which kara didn't went noticed by kara but she didn't think anything she tried to avoid, it happened during lunch period also she noticed him gazing at her when she tried to confirm he immediately turned his head but she confirmed he is looking at her, later the day the school was completed so she decided to ask him "Gohan is there something you want to tell me".
"No, why would you think like that?" asked Gohan in a normal tone.
"because I noticed you were staring at me the whole day I confirmed it many times" said kara.
"no there is nothing to say" said Gohan and left the class room.
"that was close but why am I thinking about her decision surely she knows she cant spy on me so she refused to spy on me but why on the earth she refused she admired the league a lot" these are gohan's thoughts.
AT watch tower
Batman was working like a mad man to find gohan's weakness but he can't find any clue how to stop him he decided to do something so he called for a meeting they all knew why the meeting was so kara along side with other league members joined.
"why are you here?" asked batman to kara.
"do you have any problem with me being here?" asked kara.
"so what's the meeting about?" asked flash.
"We cannot let him roam free any longer," Batman stated, voice firm, as he addressed the members of the League. "Gohan is a threat to our safety and the world's stability. We need to act before he causes irreparable damage."
The whole room was silent all of them are silent not talking, kara waited for anyone to speak but none stood so "batman why now? Gohan hasn't done anything since he killed Joker. He hadn't done anything and to me more precise he is living his life as a normal person and he is not a threat"
Batman's eyes narrowed, but he didn't falter in his resolve. "You're being too soft, Kara. He's a danger, and we can't let it get worse. We have to bring him in before he decides to act."
"you are talking unreasonable you too knew well he is not easy to catch he can easily defeat us without trying and are you not seeing whats happening around us the trust of the league is falling a part and most of the public sees him as a hero even if they don't know who killed joker and moreover do you thing the world will believe if a teenager killed joker in a brutal way and sent many criminals to coma and what will you say to public without evidence" said kara.
Batman's eyes darkened. "I don't need advice from a kid. I know what I'm doing."
Kara's temper flared. Her voice rose, laced with frustration and disappointment. "I'm not a kid, Bruce! I'm older than I look, and I'm the one who's thinking more rationally about this! You're obsessed with controlling everything, making sure everything fits into your plan, but this isn't just about you. Gohan killed Joker, and yes, that's a tragedy—but after that? What has he done? Nothing! You're not trying to stop him from hurting anyone; you're trying to control him. You're so obsessed with having everything under your thumb that you're blind to the bigger picture! And if you still think I am a kid then a kid is thinking more rational than you accept it".
The room grew tense. Batman, usually unshaken by anything, looked taken aback by Kara's outburst. He was silent for a moment, eyes locked on Kara as if trying to gauge her sincerity.
Kara didn't back down. "You're not thinking about the public's safety or the League's integrity anymore, Bruce. You're thinking about you. You're in a delusion, pretending like this is about justice when really, you're just trying to stay on top. It's not about what's right; it's about keeping control and keeping the world under your thumb."
Batman's eyes flicked between Kara and the other members, but his stance didn't soften. He slowly shook his head, though there was a flicker of doubt in his expression that wasn't there before.
"Enough," he said in a low voice. "I'm doing what needs to be done. I'm not asking for your approval, Kara. Just follow the plan."
Kara didn't flinch. "I won't just follow. Not if it means sacrificing everything we've worked for and your are not doing what need to be you are trying to cure your broken ego that's all."
"you are not getting bigger picture Gohan might become a threat" said batman.
"oh! Really tell me you knew well joker is dangerous and you knew well if he escape he will kill more so answer me bruce what did you do to prevent it did you even tried to stop him, no you haven't done anything and now you are talking about safety if you are not vigilante about a small criminal than you don't have the right to be vigilant about Gohan he is not a criminal" said kara.
"don't tell me that the league is seeing those who had powers as criminals who doesn't join them and you cant force your opinion on others who are living their lives peaceful" said kara.
Jefferys home
Gohan was meditating he remembered how his dad and piccolo trained him he remembered their training methods he remembered how piccolo meditated to suffice the amount of time he sparred so he decided to follow it he meditates for long hours.
In his meditation he pondered all the thing happened recently and idea of batman trying to capture him came to mind he was tempted to confront him but he thought it's unnecessary
"Batman can try all he wants, Gohan thought as he is meditating. But I don't think he realizes that if it comes to it, I'll defeat them all. The League? They're not the real threat. They're just scared of losing control."
AT watch Tower
the tension was palpable other league members are wondering how on earth kara was talking to batman like that.
"we will decide it by vote" said batman knowing they all support him.
"all in favour of leaving Gohan alone rise your hand" said batman.
Kara's eyes swept over the room. Not a single hand lifted. The silence was deafening, and the answer was clear: no one dared defy Batman. She could feel the anger building up inside her.
"No one?" Kara's voice shook slightly with frustration. She turned to the group, her face hardening. "Then let's make this simpler. All in favour of capturing Gohan?"
To her dismay, only one hand went up. Batman's hand.
A deep realisation hit her the league was so afraid of batman they cant even express their opinions her anger was bubbling inside of her.
"You all are cowards!" Kara spat, her voice rising. "No wonder the public calls us out. No wonder they say we care more about our fame and our ideals than actually protecting them!" She took a step forward, facing the League members one by one.
Lantern, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up, his tone heated. "Watch your mouth, kid. You're out of line."
Kara didn't flinch."or what?" what are you going to do? You are too afraid of batman to an extent you forgot your own opinion and how to think independently".
Then she turned to Kal-El her cousin, her voice softening for a moment, "Kal, I didn't expect this from you. Gohan is right. We are not fit for this. We've lost our way. Every single one of us is more concerned with maintaining the League's image than actually doing what's right."
Her eyes flicked to Diana. "And you, Diana… your mother was right about 'man's world.' Everyone here is in their own delusion, thinking they know the truth. Thinking they're right. But look at us. You, a figure of courage and strength, and yet you've changed too. I can see it. There's no hope for us, is there? We're all just playing along, thinking we're making a difference when we're really just perpetuating the same failures."
Kara paused, taking a deep breath before her gaze locked with Batman's.
"You," she said, her voice cold but filled with a new level of disdain. "I see now why you're so obsessed with control. Because you're too afraid of what will happen if you stop trying to dominate everything around you. You're the bigger threat here, Bruce. You and your ego. You think you're stopping Gohan, but in reality, you're stopping all of us. And you're the one who's become a bigger threat to the world and it will be no wonder if you became the doom of the world and even if you don't accept it it's the truth we have seen what happened when you left joker alive he caused more pain and yet you did nothing to stop him you didn't took any action when a criminal is on a loose and yet you are obsessed with catching a innocent person."
Batman's face remained impassive, but his jaw tightened. Kara could see the storm behind his eyes, the way his fists clenched at his sides, but she didn't care anymore. He wasn't the Batman she used to look up to. He wasn't the hero who fought for the right reasons anymore. Now, he was just a man trying to protect his image, his position, and his control.
Kara's voice dropped to a harsh whisper, the weight of her words sinking into the silence of the room. "Tell me, Bruce... did you put this much effort into stopping Joker when he was alive? Because as far as I can remember, you didn't do a damn thing to stop him,you knew well that he will escape and try to provoke you, and wait for him to escape. And now you're wasting all this energy trying to stop a kid who, despite everything, has more courage to do what you could never bring yourself to do. Gohan is the one trying to fix things, while you're here... just trying to control it all. And you know what? That makes you the real threat, Bruce, even if your ego doesn't agree with that."
The room was still. No one dared speak.
For the first time in a long time, Batman was speechless.
Kara didn't wait for him to reply. She had said everything that needed to be said. The League had fallen apart long ago. What had started as a group of heroes, united by a desire to protect the world, was now nothing more than a group of people afraid to challenge the one in charge.
Kara turned on her heel, her frustration palpable. "I'm done," she muttered, walking toward the exit.
Kara's boots clicked sharply against the metal floor of the Watchtower as she turned her back to the League, her words hanging in the air like an unshakable storm.
"I'm done," Kara said, her voice cutting through the tense silence, the finality in her tone unmistakable. "I'm quitting the League. This... this is not the League I joined. This is not the League I admired, not the that sworn to protect the world."
She paused, letting her words sink into each of them. The weight of her departure was heavy. The League, the family she once believed in, had become something unrecognizable, something she no longer wanted to be a part of.
She took another step, her fists clenched at her sides, the anger in her veins coursing through her as she addressed the room once more.
"Things have changed," Kara continued, her voice shaking with a mix of frustration and sorrow. "You've all become what you once fought against. Too afraid, too divided, too obsessed with control to actually make a difference. I can't be a part of that anymore."
Batman, for the first time, seemed unsure of himself. His eyes narrowed, and for a moment, Kara thought she saw a flicker of guilt — or maybe regret. But it was gone as quickly as it had come. He was Batman, and no one, not even him, could escape their own demons so easily.
"You're making a mistake, Kara," Bruce finally spoke, his voice low and steady, as if trying to reclaim some sense of control in the situation. But his words lacked the usual conviction, the certainty he normally had when trying to steer others to his will. "We can still fix this. We need to stay united."
Kara stopped in her tracks, her back still turned to him. She could feel the weight of his words, but her resolve only hardened.
"No," she said simply, her voice now cold. "You can't fix it. You're the one who's still trying to keep everything under control. But you're losing it, Bruce. You've lost everything that made you a leader. It's all about you now, and the rest of us are just... just pawns in your game and moreover you are the one who is making mistake and telling me I am making didn't gave a damm thing about unity and you talking about unity don't make me laugh."
Kara took a breath and she continued "don't you think its funny you talk about trust and don't trust others and keeps everything a secret and says to trust me this makes you a hypocrite, no wonder Jason and Barbara left you a long time ago."
"kara you are crossing the line" told superman.
"I am not crossing the line kal I am telling the truth" said kara.
"do you think we can fix this bruce?" kara questioned batman.
And kara continued "No, Bruce," she said, her voice icy and unforgiving. "You're not the person who will change. Your ego has a hold on you, and that's all you care about now. Either your ego wins, or the world will be destroyed in the process."
There was a pause. Batman's jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing as he processed her words. Kara's words weren't just an accusation — they were a truth he didn't want to hear, one he couldn't deny. Her words hit harder than any punch or blow ever could.
Kara took a step closer to him, closing the distance between them, her eyes never leaving his. "You can't fix this, Bruce. You're too blinded by your need for control, and your obsession with doing things your way. You're not even listening to anyone else. All you're doing is pushing people away, and when everything falls apart, you'll be the one standing there, saying, 'I was right.'"
Batman was silent. He opened his mouth as though to respond, but no words came. He didn't have an answer. He didn't know how to fix it. Deep down, he knew she was right.
Kara's voice dropped lower, but it was no less sharp. "See? You're just saying things, Bruce. You don't have a plan. You don't have a solution. You just want to keep everyone under your thumb and pretend everything is fine. But it's not fine. You're losing control of everything."
Kara stepped back now, her words final, like the closing of a door. Her gaze swept over the League members — her former teammates. "You're all just too afraid to admit the truth. Batman isn't going to change. He's too obsessed with winning. But I'm not going to be part of this anymore."
The air in the room felt thick, suffocating. Bruce, still standing as unmoving as ever, didn't say a word. His silence was the loudest thing in the room now. He wasn't going to admit that she was right. Not to her. Not to anyone.
Kara's eyes flickered to the others briefly, the weight of her disappointment almost tangible. But she didn't waste another second. With a final, resigned shake of her head, she turned her back to them, to him, and walked toward the exit.
"I'm done," she said over her shoulder, her voice full of finality. "This League isn't worth saving. And I'm not wasting any more of my time here."
She gave one last, sweeping look over the League, her eyes lingering on Kal-El. "I thought you would understand, Kal. But I see now that you're just as lost as the rest of them. And Diana... your strength used to inspire me. But now, I see it too — your idealism, your courage, it's gone, replaced by the same doubts and the same fears that grip all of you."
Kara's chest heaved, the air around her thick with emotion, but she stood tall. "I'm leaving," she repeated. "I can't stay here anymore. You've all failed. And you'll keep failing until you stop being in the delusion you are right."
With that, Kara turned on her heel and walked toward the exit, every step echoing in the empty room. The others stood still, unsure how to react. The League was now fractured, broken not by external threats, but by their own internal struggles, their own inability to see beyond their leader's obsessive control.
She turned back to say one final word "I hope you don't label me as a criminal on loose because I left you".
Kara didn't look back as tears were rolling down from her eyes.
There is a pregnant silence in the watch tower no one spoke anything slowing each one left the room except batman.
Batman remained there for a time and he left the watchtower.
AT Bat Cave
"You can't fix this, Bruce. You're too blinded by your need for control, and your obsession with doing things your way. Tell me, Bruce... did you put this much effort into stopping Joker when he was alive? Because as far as I can remember, you didn't do a damn thing to stop him,you knew well that he will escape and try to provoke you, and wait for him to escape. You are the real threat to the world Bruce not any criminals your ideology will bring the world to doom" these word are resonating in batman's head.
Then some footsteps are approaching batman "what do you want nightwing?" asked bartman.
"sorry master bruce it's Alfred" said Alfred.
"It seems your mind is clouded with other things this the first time you are wrong," said Alfred.
Batman remained silent.
"What happened at the meeting?" asked Alfred.
"Nothing but we need to capture Gohan he is a threat" said batman.
"can you tell clearly why you are seeing this boy a threat is it because of his powers or because he killed joker" asked Alfred.
Batman remained silent.
Alfred waited for a few seconds and left the room in disappointment. "he has changed" these were his thoughts.
