Kousei was having a dream. A bad one at that.

In that dream, he met God, who said that Kaori and his mother weren't supposed to die. And that he would send Kousei back to live his life as it was supposed to.

'Even my own brain is against me. Giving me false hope. Just how cruel can the world be?', he thought angrily.

Thinking about the cruelty of the world, Kousei opened his eyes and saw an unfamiliar white ceiling and that something was attached to his arm. Also, there was a slight smell of medicine, indicating he was in a hospital.

'But why? Did I fail to die? Did someone save me? Why?' These thoughts raced inside Kousei's mind as he attempted to get up and soon he was up.

As he was climbing down the bed, he realised that his legs were shorter than he remembered. This confused him but he shrugged it off and took his IV stand with him as he reached for the door.

But before he could open the door, someone opened it from outside and in came Hiroko Seto.

Oddly enough, he had to look up to meet her face. 'But I didn't need to look that far up when I last met her.' He thought, getting even more confused.

Seto, meanwhile, was shocked to see Kousei up and wandering about. She stepped outside the room, closed the door, and shouted for a doctor.

Soon enough, a doctor came bustling past the patients in the hallway. "What is it Mrs.Hiroko?" He asked calmly as soon as he reached her to which she replied, "He's awake."

They both stepped inside to see Kousei standing in front of a mirror, looking shocked.

A few minutes earlier inside the room

As soon as Seto had stepped outside, Kousei became worried, hoping that the dream he had was not actually a dream but reality.

To confirm whether he was really in the past or not, he moved towards the mirror he had seen earlier when walking towards the door.

When he looked in the mirror upon reaching it, he was shocked. He looked like he was around 11 years old.

While looking in the mirror, he heard the door opening and looked towards it to see Seto along with a doctor standing there with a curious expression.

"Arima-kun, I'm Doctor Haruto. I'm here for your checkup. Why don't you sit on the bed while I gather the necessary equipment." The doctor said kindly and indicated to the bed.

Kousei followed his instruction and sat on the bed while Seto remained near the door.

Soon, Dr.Haruto returned with some equipment and started his checkup. He performed some tests such as looking in his eyes, inside his mouth, checking his pulse, his reflexes and movement all the while asking questions such as how he was feeling, was he feeling uncomfortable anywhere, is there anything wrong, etc.

Kousei answered honestly and glanced sometimes towards Seto, each time seeing her looking at him.

After a while, Dr.Haruto finished his examination and declared him healthy enough to be released.

As soon as he was out, Seto started walking towards him and when she reached him, she hugged him like it was the last time.

"You scared us, Kousei." She murmured in his ear while a few tears leaked out of her eyes.

"What do you mean? What happened?" Kousei asked curiously, not understanding what had happened.

This worried Seto, thinking that he had amnesia and called the doctor back inside and explained to him not remembering what happened.

Dr.Haruto calmly explained that mental injuries sometimes can lead to short term amnesia and it was nothing to be worried about.

Kousei, who was listening to them, asked again what had happened that he was hospitalized.

"You were bleeding badly. There was blood coming from the corner of your eyes, your eyes, your nose and mouth. And you soon lost consciousness. Everyone was scared, including Saki. I have never seen her so terrified."

[A/N: Here, they are talking about what happened in episode 9 during the flashback when Saki slaps Kousei. Instead of blood coming from his head only, it comes from everywhere.]

Kousei was silent because he was thinking how he would react after seeing hisother after so long.

Timidly, as if he was afraid, he asked, "Can I go see her?"

Seto smiled kindly, thinking how much he loved his mother despite her harshness and her faults. "Of course you can!" She replied promptly.

She took his hand in her own and led him towards another room. 'The same room as last time.' He thought sadly.

Soon, they reached the door and stopped. Seto pushed him a little towards the door, prompting him to go inside while she waited outside.

Kousei took a deep breath, reached for the handle and opened the door. Inside, he saw his mother sitting in the bed facing away from him with many different machines attached to her and many different medicines on the table beside the bed.

Kousei entered and closed the door and just stood there, gathering his thoughts.

After a minute, he went towards her and when he reached her, he took one of her hands in both of his, and said, "I'm sorry, mom. I just wanted you to be happy, to be well. I don't want you to die. I don't want to be left alone. I didn't mean to say all those things I said. Please forgive me. I will do everything you say, I will play exactly like the score sheet. I won't waste my time on friends. Please don't leave me. Please!"

Towards the end of his speech, he was crying openly and hiccuping.

While he was crying, he felt a hand atop his head, caressing his hair lovingly and heard his mother say, "It's not your fault, Kousei. It was never your fault. You can do whatever you like. If you don't want to play the piano, don't play. I won't force you ever again. I'm sorry. For hitting you. For forcing you to do something you didn't want to. For not letting you go outside with your friends. I'm sorry." By the end, some tears were also leaking from her eyes as she hugged her son.

In the end, both mother and son reconciled and Saki promised Kousei that she would never leave him and after their talk, Kousei fell asleep in her arms and had a peaceful sleep for the first time in days.
