Chapter 5: In it to win it
If my timeline is right it is time for Yuya and his friends to prepare for a tournament arc because this is Yugioh.
At the middle school…
Yuya opens up his lunch box revealing a picture of his dad and says: "Hey dad, how's it going? So I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna sharpen my duel skills and become a pro like you and entertain people and duel my way, with honour like Yugi, Jaden, Yusei and Yuma have taught me, I think you would like them they've helped me with my duel skills a lot and we have become great friends in the time I've known them." Then Yuya starts to devour his food.
"Just because its seafood doesn't mean I want to see your food." Remarked Yuzu grossed out by Yuya's eating.
"So, Yuya, I must say that your table manners are about as elegant as your dueling. That is to say not at all." Said Sylvio.
"Says you. Now did you want something or are you just here to annoy us?" asked Yuya.
"A teacher at LDS was attacked, no one has heard of him since." Said Sylvio causing Yuya and Yuzu to gasp.
"That's horrible." Said Yuzu.
"You both seem surprised, looks like the rumours that you two had something to do with it were wrong. Then again no way you losers could defeat someone like professor Marco. Even with Yugi Moto and that brat fighting your battles for you."
"Hey, Yugi is a great duelist, I don't think that there is anyone that could beat him, and your just upset that he and Yuma beat you." Argued Yuya.
"Well then I hope you can prove that, if you were qualified to enter the Miami championship." Said Sylvio
You Show Duel School…
"HE'S RIGHT HOW CAN I BECOME A PRO NOW!" said a freaked out Yuya.
"Okay, can you explain why this tournament is such a big deal." Said Yuma.
"It's a yearly tournament that is hosted by the Leo corporation, it is important for any duelist who ants to go pro and then move up to the senior arc league, and then you need enough wins there you can take the pro test." Said Shuzo although Jaden and Yuma groan at the word Test.
"And you need at least 50 duels and a 60% win percentage, Yuya only has 46 duels and 26 wins." Said Gongenzaka or Gong as his friends call him.
"That doesn't sound so bad that means Yuya only needs 4 more wins to get his 60% win percentage." Said Yusei.
"We tried but everyone we asked at school said no." said Yuzu.
"The problem is that they either don't want to duel because of Pendulum summoning or they don't get the duel with Sledgehammer wasn't for his title." Said Yuya. Then he realizes something. "Wait a minute I only need 4 more."
"Hate to break it to you Yuya but Yugi, Jaden and Yusei are clearly pros so it wouldn't count and Yuma might be a little to strong for you." Said Yuzu.
"Hey, I'm just as good, if not better then any pro in this city." Said Yuma, who hates it when people think he's a bad duelist.
"Well then what about you and Yuto." Said Yuya.
"Bad idea if they duel and use their dragons then they'll get fused together as and halfway through completing Zarc." Said Ray getting her four champions to immediately shoot that down knowing full well that ancient evils should never be messed with.
"Well Yuto might not be competing so there is no reason to bring him into this." Said Yugi.
"He's right you could duel Yuzu." Suggested Jaden.
"Not gonna happen, I'm already at the 60% and I can't risk that by losing to Yuya." Said Yuzu.
"Well then who am I supposed to duel?" asked Yuya.
"You could always duel at my father's school; I've helped you in the past and I the man Gongenzaka would be honoured to help my best friend get into the Miami championship."
"I know Gong and I have been grateful for all the help everyone here has given me, but when I dueled Bandit Keith, I realized that I can't always have someone fight my battles for me." Said Yuya. "I need to get stronger and need to find a way to get there myself."
Hearing Yuya's words make Yuzu realize that she got easily kidnapped by Bandit Kieth and was helpless to get him back his Pendulum cards and needs to get stronger herself. "Hey Jaden, Yuma, Yuto can you three help me with something?"
"Um, sure." Said Yuto who has kept quiet throughout most of this although he envy's Yuya and the others who can just relax and enjoy a simple tournament and not worry about Academia invading.
"I just thought of a way to get stronger." Is her response so the Fusion and 2 XYZ's duelist go with her.
That leaves everyone trying to figure out how to help Yuya.
"Maybe there are forum's with matchups you could try?" suggested Yugi.
"The problem isn't finding duelist its finding duelist who will duel Yuya." Yusei points out.
Just then a miracle happens when an oddly dressed man that Yuya recognizes named Nico Smiley walks in and enthusiastically shakes Yuya's hand. "So lovely to see you again Yuya."
"Um who's this?" asked Yusei.
"That's Nico Smiley, he helped set up Yuya and the Sledgehammer's duel." Answered Gong.
"And why are you here?" asked Yugi.
"I am here to bring amazing news Yuya. You've been officially invited to enter this years Miami Championship." Said Nico.
"What seriously?!" asked Yuya who can't believe his luck.
"Yes, my superiors took notice of your valiant victory against the sledgehammer, and after some meetings and deliberations, negotiated by yours truly, they have decided to offer you a spot in the championship!" said Nico.
"This is incredible Yuya, now you don't need to worry about finding 4 more opponents." Said an excited Shuzo.
Yuya sighs sadly. "Well, it's a very nice offer and all, but... tell them thanks but I'm gonna say no." Yugi and Yusei both look proudly at Yuya for wanting to work for getting into the tournament not because he was given a pass.
"But why my boy?" asked Nico.
"Well, it kinda sounds like cheating." Responded Yuya.
"No, its favouritism, okay, that might've come out wrong, but the point is, you are in."
Yugi decides to cut in. "Look your offer is great but Yuya wants to get in because he earned it and to do that he has to find and defeat four more people, if you want to help him you can find him his four opponents."
At an abandoned warehouse…
Yuzu brings Yuma, Jaden and Yuto here and closes the door which confuses them even more.
"Now can you explain why we are here." Said Yuto getting impatient.
"I was hoping since Yuya now knows how to Fusion, Pendulum and Ritual summon that you guys could help he learn XYZ and Fusion summoning." Yuzu says in a pleading tone.
"Sure." Is all Jaden says.
"Alright, I'll make you an XYZ master in now time." Said an excited Yuma.
Yuto just stands there looking stoic and mysterious since he has never taught anyone before.
"Okay, if you paid attention to my duel with Yuya, then you would know that you would need Polymerization and the right cards." Said Jaden.
"And the required monsters can either be in my hand or field." Said Yuzu.
"Hand or field that's right." Said Jaden thinking to himself. 'there is no way Crowler, Alexis or any of my other friends back home would ever believe that I am teaching.'
"XYZ needs at least two monsters of the same level, they are then placed under the summoned XYZ monster as overlay units." Said Yuma.
"But when you use their abilities, which cost at least one overlay unit, they are sent to the graveyard." Added Yuto.
"I think it would be better to show you, lets go outside." Said Jaden as they leave, they see a man with teal hair a mask appears in front of them.
"So as far as spies go you could have chosen better attire." Said the masked stranger who Yuto after seeing his hair and hearing his voice recognizes.
"Shun."
"Look I know what you think but I don't have anything to do with Academia, ask any teacher I ever had I'm a slacker I would make a terrible soldier." Said Jaden trying to avoid a fight with Yuto's friend.
"That's not going to work Jaden, he sees your jacket and is making the same assumptions I did, and Ruri is his sister so he is solely focused on saving her regardless of innocence or not." Warned Yuto.
Managing to get Shun off of him Jaden realizes that there is only one thing he can do. "All right get your game on Shun because we're gonna duel." And he activates his duel disk.
"Very well, but when I win you'll tell me what I want to know." Said Shun activating his duel disk.
"Jaden don't, Shun is too skilled for you to beat." Said Yuto, he may not like fusion but Jaden seems like a good person and he doesn't want Shun to hurt an innocent person.
Yuma however looks as if he is holding in laughter. "Don't worry if anyone should be concerned about losing its your friend."
Duel!
Jaden: Hand: 5, LP: 4000
Shun: Hand 5, LP: 4000
"I think I'll go first." said Jaden. "I activate graceful charity so that I can draw three cards but must discard two." Jaden does as he described. "I summon Elemental Hero Neos. (Level 7 ATK 2500)."
"How did you summon a level 7 monster so soon?" asked Shun.
"Glad you asked, Elemental Hero Necroshade is one of the two cards I discarded so that means I can summon a higher-level Elemental Hero like Neos, one of my two aces." Explained Jaden. "Now I can only throw down a facedown and end my turn."
Jaden Hand: 3, LP: 4000
"Very well, my turn, I draw. I summon Raidraptor – Rudder Strix (Level 4 ATK 0) and since I summoned Rudder Strix I now deal you 600 points of damage." Rudder Strix fires a blast at Jaden.
Jaden LP: 3400
"Ow, that actually hurt." Said Jaden, 'But this defiantly isn't a shadow duel so why does it hurt.'
"And since I have Rudder Strix on the field I can summon Raidraptopr – Fuzzy Lanius. (Level 4 ATK 500). And now I activate this spell card, Level Down, it decreases all monsters on the field's level by one."
"If he's doing that then that would mean…" said Yuma.
"I XYZ summon: Raidraptor – Fiend Eagle. (Rank 3 ATK 1000, Overlay Units: 2) I place one card face down and end my turn."
Shun Hand: 3, LP: 4000
"My turn. I draw, I think you already figured I was going to do this so I use Polymerization in order to fuse Elemental Hero Avian and Elemental Hero Burstinatrix in my hand in order to fusion summon, the wings of Avian and the flames of liberty courtesy of Burstinatrix creates a brand new hero who dishes out justice equally. I fusion summon Elemental Hero Flame Wingman. (Level 6 ATK 2100).
"So you really are another fusion using scum." Shun says angerly clenching his fist.
"I'm not with Academia, plenty of people Fusion Summon where I'm from." And saying when goes without saying. "But now I have both my ace monster out on the field. Attack Flame Wingman!"
"That's great, when Flame Wingman destroys a monster the opponent loses life points equal to that destroyed monsters ATK points." Said Yuzu remembering Jaden and Yuya's duel.
Yuto says nothing because he knows Shun would NEVER be defeated so easily.
"I activate the trap card Negate attack." Said Shun.
"I end my turn." Said Jaden.
Jaden: Hand 5, LP: 3400
Shun draws his next card. "I activate the Fiend Eagle's effect now by paying one overlay unit you receive damage equal to your fusion abomination's ATK points."
Jaden LP: 3400 – 2100 = 1300
"Now I activate the spell card Rank-Up-Magic Revolution Force in order to summon the monster that will pave the way for the revolution as it rises out in the name of vengeance. I XYZ summon: Raidraptor – Rise Falcon. (Rank 4 ATK 100 Overlay Units: 2)."
"All that effort for a monster with only 100 ATK points?" asked Yuzu.
"Don't underestimate an XYZ monster, it's their abilities that make them dangerous." Said Yuma.
"He's right Shun is strong, I'm sorry but Jaden won't win this." Said Yuto.
"I now activate the spell card Code Change in order to change Rise Falcon's effect so that instead of gaining the ATK of a special summoned monster it gains the ATK of your Neos and he can attack all your monsters at once now."
Raidraptor Rise Falcon (ATK 100 2500 = 2600)
Rise Falcon fires little missiles at Neos and Flame Wingman.
Jaden LP: 1300 – 100 = 1200
Jaden LP: 1200 – 500 = 700
"This looks bad, I know Jaden is a strong duelist but I can' risk it." Said Ray who uses her power to activate Yuzu's bracelet. 'Normally this would only work if two Zarc fragments of here but in this case I must so Jaden doesn't get carded by Shun.' Just then ray felt a chill down her spiritual spine.
"Ray Akaba you will not interrupt this duel because I know that you are worried for him but let me reassure you Jaden will be victorious." Said Yubel.
Ray sighs and stops. "Okay I'll try to have faith in my champions."
"Now Rise Falcon its time to rid the world of one less fusion scum and member of Academia attack him directly."
"Not so fast I activate the Trap Card Mirror Force." Said Jaden surprising everyone but Yubel about his last-minute save. "Now any attack position monsters you have are destroyed and your attack is stopped."
Shun angry and surprised that he was stopped by something as simple as forgetting about an opponents trap card because he focused on destoerying his Fusion monster. "I place my remaining cards in my remaining three facedown and end my turn."
Shun: Hand: 0, LP: 4000
Jaden knowing he probably won't survive next turn places all of his faith in this next draw and when he draws and sees the card he got he is not disappointed. "I place down one card face down and then activate the spell card Card of sanctity in order for us both to draw until we have six cards in our hands."
They both do just that.
"I hope what they draw is enough to win." Said Yuzu.
"Now I use my face down Monster reborn in order to bring Back Flame Wingman. (Level 6 ATK 2100), now I summon Elemental HERO Prisim and use he effect meaning I discard an Elemental HERO Sparkman in my deck so that I can use Polymerization and have Prism in place of Sparkman. An evolved HERO stronger then before with sparks brighter than fire I Fusion Summon Elemental HERO Shining Flare Wingman (Level 8 ATK 2500) also he gains 300 ATK for every Elemental HERO in the graveyard."
"Lets see that's Neos, Necroshade, Avian, Burstinatrix, Prism, Sparkman and Flame Wingman. That's 2100." Said Yuto. "He might actually be able to win."
"Told you he would."
Shining Flare Wingman (ATK 2500 2100 = 4600)
"Before I attack I think I'll add H Heated Heart into the mix and heat things up with an extra 500 attack points." Said Jaden.
Shining Flare Wingman (ATK 4600 500 = 5100)
"Lets end this: Shining Flare Wingman attack!" ordered Jaden.
"NO! I refuse to lose to a fusion summon for everything they have done and taken from us, I will make you pay along with every other fusion user. I activate the Trap Card XYZ Reborn in order to bring back Raidraptor Rise Falcon (Rank 4 DEF 2000)."
"Hate to break it to you but because of H Heated Heart you'll still take damage." Explained Jaden.
Shun LP: 4000 – 3100 = 900
"It doesn't matter I have survived and just like you I'll make my comeback." Said Shun.
"Sure but you should probably know two things before counting your cards before their drawn. When Flame Wingman destroys a monster you take damage equal to the destroyed monsters ATK points…
Shun LP: 900 – 100 = 800
… and finally I still have this quick play spell card: De-Fusion splitting Shining Flare Wingman back into Flame Wingman and Sparkman."
Flame Wingman (Level 6 ATK 2100)
Sparkman (Level 4 ATK 1600).
"Now lets finish this, Attack Sparkman!" Sparkman created an electric spear that strikes down Shun.
Shun LP: 800 – 1600 = 0
Shun is on his knees as his mask falls off making a face that looks like one of pure anger. "Damm it, I'm sorry Ruri I failed you, you can card me all you want but our resistance will win and we will destroy Academia.
To his surprise Jaden just gave out his hand and reached out for Shun. "I don't know everything you've lost, but attacking innocent people means you've gone too far, I want to help you get back at Academia, besides I would never card anyone."
Shun however refuses to listen to Jaden's reasoning and tried to punch Jaden but luckily Yuto caught it.
"Shun stand down, you've already lost." Said Shun.
"What's going on how does Yuto know this guy and why is he attacking he already lost." Asked Yuzu that is when Shun finally sees her face.
"Ruri, you're here, that's great we can leave and return to Heartland." Said Shun who grabs Yuzu's wrist but she resists.
"Hey let me go you jerk." Said Yuzu.
"Yeah if she doesn't want to go with you then let her be." Said Yuma.
"All you want to go you little brat well I'm her brother." Said Shun thinking Yuzu is his sister.
"let. HER. GO!" said Ray using her power to forcibly activate Yuzu's bracelet teleporting both Yuto and Shun away.
Needless to say Yubel looks impressed at Ray's fury while Yuto and Jaden both scared.
"What happened?" asked Yuzu.
"We have no good answers." Said Yuma.
The other side of town…
Yuto and Shun both appear in a random alleyway. Yuto and Shun get up when Yuto notices a card that fell out which Yuto grabs and flips over learning it is a person turned into a card.
"Shun how could you?!" accused Yuto.
"He was a fusion instructor at the Leo Duel School, he obviously worked for the enemy." Said Shun trying to defend himself.
"You carded an innocent man, do you think Ruri would have wanted this." Said Yuto.
"I had her and we could have brought her home." Said Shun still thinking Yuzu was Ruri.
"That wasn't her, her name is Yuzu Hiragi. She just has an identical face to Ruri." Said Yuto looking at the now carded man. "What if this man had a family, he was innocent."
"You saw the destruction caused by Fusion Summoning, they even took Ruri, they deserve to pay." Said Shun.
"What about Jaden Yuki, he defeated you and knew about the war but still didn't card you, I still don't know if I would consider him a comrade just yet but I know he duelled with more honour than you." Said Yuto walking away.
"Yuto come back here, if you leave for that fusion scum you can consider our friendship over, and you'll be a traitor to the resistance." Said Shun which stops Yuto who can only say: "I'm sorry." Before leaving.
Shun angerly punches the wall and that is when he heard a voice.
"So your the little punk who carded one of LDS' professors." Said the voice.
"Who are you?"
The voice reveals himself to be: "I'm Seto Kaiba and I've been asked to bring you to Leo Akaba, please resist." Kaiba readies his diel disk.
Shun readies his as they prepare for a duel.
A the You Show household…
Jaden and Yuma after helping Yuzu get home safely explain everything that happened.
"So Yuto's friend from the XYZ dimension is here and attacking Fusion summoners." Said Yusei.
"This is bad, you said he was a strong duelist Jaden so we need to prepare for encase any of us duel him again." Said Yugi.
"Maybe he'll try to attack the tournament coming up, that would be the perfect place to attack." Suggested Jaden.
"True but Academia when they come to our dimension might come around that time since it would be as you said Jaden the best opportunity to attack the city with everyone focused on the Junior Arc League." Said Atem.
"And as we all know Tournaments always lead to these kinds of things." Yusei adds.
"Too bad none of us can enter." Said Yuma.
"Actually Nico Smiley said if you get six duels in a row you can qualify and Yuma should be around the right age." Said Yugi.
"All right, I'll just get six people to duel me, Academia better watch out because I'm feeling the flow." Said Yuma.
"This is a good plan, but for the upcoming war we will all need to be stronger." Said Astral.
"Your right we all need to help Yuzu and Yuya get stronger so that they can survive the upcoming war." Said Yugi. "We also need to get stronger, I think we need to learn other summoning methods to help us."
They all agreed on their plan for preparing and with that done Jaden decides to ask a question to the reason they're in this world.
"Hey Ray, when Yuzu was kidnapped I noticed you looked the most concerned outside of Yuya and when we saved her you looked like you were cuddling her and when Shun tried to take her you acted as if you wanted to kill him, why?"
Ray sadly sighs. "When I was human, I met this… man who I loved greatly and married, but I found out we couldn't have children, when I sacrificed myself and spilt I watched over my fragments, I thought it was cruel at first seeming young girls with my face when I know I'll never have children, but as I began watching them grow up I started to forget that, I saw them each as induvial and grow to be wonderful young ladies, and they came from me so I guess over time I came to see them as my daughters. I know I didn't name them or raise them but still in all the time I've spent watching them have learnt to feel that way about them."
"There's nothing wrong with how you feel Ray." Assured Yugi.
"She's right, your our friend if you really think that about them then we won't judge you." said Yusei.
"Ray I have some experience in spirits loving people from our world so let me tell you that we will do everything we can to help your daughters." Jaden promised.
The rest of them nod agreeing.
Now they have a plan to help train Yuya and Yuzu and for Yuma to enter the tournament and they will defeat Leo Akaba and make him pay for everything he has done.
"It's time to give Academia the duel of their lives." Said Yugi.
And done for now, Jaden vs Shun might have been short but I promise this won't be their last duel. And yes the 4 of them will learn each of the summoning methods and are already making plans to prepare for the upcoming war. Yuto and Shun have broken off their friendship and while Shun doesn't completely trust Jaden he at least will work with him.
