Happy Saint Patrick's Day, stay safe if you're partying.
Here's the adaptation of the season 8 finale, but not necessarily the finale for Peter, not the finale of the story, since I plan to also cover season 9.
Chapter 15
"They're both hurting." Cecile told the team as she looked over at Barry and Meena, who were in a corner of the lab in Fast Track Labs, looking depressed.
"I've met doppelgängers who've been through the same." Peter explained, solemnly. "They each loved a doppelgänger of a girl named Gwen Stacy, only for a version of one of my enemies to kill her. The closest I can compare to that is Laurel Lance. We dated for a bit when I was in Starling. But I didn't fall for her and we split up. By the time Damien Dahrk killed her, I was already falling for Caitlin. Otherwise, the closest comparison is missing my Caitlin and Frost…which I might be seeing soon."
"What?!"
"Constantine finally called back. He's too busy to help but he pointed us in the direction of wizards who could help in New York City. After we stop Thawne and the Negative Forces and save Iris, I'm going."
"It's true, we're gonna throw him a goodbye party." Chester replied.
"That's great, Peter. I'm gonna miss you." Cecile told him.
"Me too, but as soon as I know if there's a way to travel safely back and forth, I'll come and visit." Peter reassures them before he turns to Bart. "Um, we haven't officially met-"
"Oh, I know you, Uncle Peter." Bart replied.
"Right, time travel. Wibbly wobbly, time-y wimey. Jeremy Bearimy." Peter muttered. "Not gonna let you knowing me 27 years in the future mean that I'll be stuck. The future is whatever I make."
"As for the situation at hand, what are we going to do?" Allegra asked.
"We find Iris and we bring her home." Cecile replied.
"Then we find a way to take down the Negative Forces, 'cause if they come back for a rematch…" Chester pointed out.
"Well, again, that's the concept of a plan. The question is, "how do we do it?"" Peter asked.
"Well, I don't think they will want a rematch." Nora replied as Barry joined them. "They already got what they came for…the last Thawne in existence."
"What do they need him for anyway?" Bart asked.
"There's only one way to find out." Barry replied. "I have to find a way into the Negative Speed Force."
Everyone is silent in shock at Barry's revelation.
"Dad, no offense, but that's insane." Bart replied.
"I don't have a choice." Barry replied, bluntly. "As long as Thawne's out there, everyone's in danger. Chester and Peter already ran a satellite search. Thawne's nowhere on the planet. The only place left to hide is the Negative Speed Force. If I can find a way in-"
"No, look." Cecile pleads. "I can feel all the anger inside you, I can, and I know that you've been to hell and back today, but we need to think our next move through."
"HE KILLED IRIS!" Barry yelled, shocking everyone.
"Barry, how can you possibly be so sure?"
"Because I am."
"Damn it, Barry, this is what they want! For you to act impulsively so that you'll make a mistake. They haven't truly won until we're all dead." Peter told him. "Nearly two months ago, we buried Frost and most of us nearly let Blockbuster get away. Look I can't relate to losing someone I love like you did with Iris. You'll have to find another Peter Parker that has. But I know loss and I know that the only reason they've been successful as they have so far is by being smart. So we gotta think this carefully if we want the upper hand."
Once again, everyone is silent, but this time because they were moved by Peter's speech.
"Guys, we need to talk to our dad alone." Nora told them, breaking the silence and figuring that as good as Peter's speech was. It wasn't enough.
The rest of the team start to leave the room.
"Fine. I'll call Joe and tell him that we're all okay." Cecile relents before leaving the room.
The team (including Meena, Nora, and Bart) returns to the Cortex. Apparently Bart and Nora didn't help persuade Barry. But he has calmed down enough to try and persuade the Team that this is the right idea.
"Going inside is the only way to end this." Barry told them.
"Barry, it sounds dangerous." Cecile replied.
"'Cause it is." Bart replied.
Allegra wants to argue, but knows that it won't help. So she sighs and asks Barry a question. "Fine, so how exactly do you get inside the Negative Speed Force?"
"The first time I went into the positive Speed Force, Harry hit me with a concentrated blast of dark matter and lightning that generated a tachyon reaction." Barry explained.
"Well, Peter and I could rig the tachyon harness to do the same." Chester told him. "Only, if you're trying to get in a negative place, you're gonna need a negative source of lightning."
"Like me." Meena realizes. The first time she's said anything since Eobard's death.
"Uh…Meena, I-I don't think that's such a good idea right now." Cecile replies after using her powers to sense Meena's emotions.
"We need to find a way in. I'm the key."
Barry nods in approval. "Chester, Peter, go ahead and get started."
Peter and Chester do so as the others follow suit, with the exception of Barry and Cecile.
The team meet up in the Speed lab with tachyon harnesses around Barry's and Nora's emblem and in the case Bart (who is missing an emblem unlike the rest of his family), his chest. Peter wishes he could join them, but understands that right now, only speedsters can go to the Negative Speed Force.
"Okay, y'all ready?" Chester asked the three speedsters, who nodded to answer his question.
"Harnesses are good to go." Peter tells them.
They then activate the harnesses from his monitor, causing them to spark speed energy to colors that match each speedster's usual electricity while running (orange for Barry, purple for Nora, and yellow for Bart). Nora and Bart scream in pain.
"Ahh! What's happening?" Nora exclaimed in pain.
"Oh, God." Meena says in horror.
"I'm shutting down remote ignition." Chester tells them"
"Keep mine going!" Barry yelled.
"But Barry-"
"DO IT!"
Chester complied, Barry's harness was now the only one active. He screams in pain too, but tries to bear it, much to the horror of everyone else.
Peter shakes his head. "Uh-huh, I'm calling it." He turns off the harness causing Barry to drop to all fours.
"Dad!" Bart exclaims in fear for his father's life as he tries to help him up.
"Why didn't it work?" Meena asked Chester.
"I-I don't know." Chester admits.
"If this won't work, we can't access the Negative Speed Force." Bart points out.
"Then we need to find another way." Barry states, much to the shock of his kids.
"Eobard would've known what to do." Meena admits, still depressed with her loss. "But now he's gone. Because of me…and that damn machine." She says a little angrier at the end before speeding out of the room.
"Dad." Nora says, a little fearful before Barry chases after Meena.
A few minutes later, Nora and Bart sped Peter and Chester to Fast Track Labs, finding that the B.L.O.C. hasn't been destroyed by Meena, but Meena sharing her Negative Speed Force energy with Barry.
"Your biometrics are spiking." Chester told Barry after examining data from Barry's and Meena's suits on his tablet.
"We thought the bad forces were back, but now you're going into the Negative Speed Force without us." Nora explained.
Next thing anyone knew, Barry disappeared.
"We're too late." Bart says in depression.
A few minutes later, Barry reappears, landing on the ground.
"Dad!" Nora exclaims as she rushes to her father. "Are you okay?"
Barry looks at everyone, panting. "It's all my fault."
"What about Thawne?" Bart asked.
"The Negative Forces…they were transforming him somehow."
"So he's still alive?"
"But they already gave him his speed back. What more could that want?" Meena asked in confusion.
It's then that a notification chime sounds from Chester's tablet.
"Guys, I'm picking up a huge influx of negative kinetic tachyons." Chester informs them.
"Where?" Barry asked.
"Right over Downtown."
They soon turn on a computer to local news. Someone in black version of a Speedster outfit is firing red electricity at civilians, causing a lot of chaos.
"Holy shrap, that's Thawne." Nora pointed out.
"Who's his new tailor? Satan?" Bart asked.
"Uh, the Negative Forces." Peter replied to the obvious answer. "Besides, we've met Lucifer. He's ok. It's humans that are really to blame for being assholes."
And so much for people thinking of Meena when people see a Speedster in black. Peter also thought.
"Guys, I'm not just picking up negative kinetic isotopes…reading temporal, geothermic, electric chemical ones too." Chester informed them.
"He has the powers of all four Negative Forces now." Barry realized.
"Why?" Meena inquired.
"To tip the balance of power in their favor…turn the entire world into a living hell."
A few minutes later, the four speedsters save the civilians around Thawne so that they can fight him with no civilian casualties. The four then stop to stand in front of him as Peter teleports next to them with a tele-sphere.
"You're outnumbered, five to one." Nora tells him.
"You're gonna pay for everyone you've hurt." Bart also tells him.
"Especially Eobard." Meena proclaimed with some menace.
Thawne looks over Peter. "Spider-Man, you're the odd one out." He noted since Peter was the only non-speedster out of the five.
"True, but I'm not useless in this fight." Peter replied.
Peter then started webbing Thawne with ice webbing while the other four circle him in a trap of their own speed before each throwing lightning at Thawne causing him to fall over. Barry steps forward as Thawne is covered in a purple light, only to reveal not Thawne's broken body, but Bart's!
"Bart?" Barry asked in worry that he may have accidentally killed his future son.
"Son of bitch!" Peter exclaimed in shock.
"Dad. Is he gonna be okay?" Nora asked in worry and sadness that she could lose her brother.
"If that's Impulse, where's Thawne?" Meena asked, a little worried about where he could be.
After another glow of purple light, Thawne teleports behind Barry.
"Right here." He tells them.
They then turn to him before Thawne snaps his fingers, causing Peter, Meena, Nora, the unconscious Bart to disappear in a glow of green light, leaving the two nemeses alone to fight. Next thing Peter knows the four are in an open field of grass near some trees.
"The hell are we?" Peter asked.
It's then that they hear the Theme from "Jurassic Park" by John Williams playing. They turn to the direction of the source of the music, to see Wade Wilson in his Deadpool uniform underneath a white button up, short sleeved shirt, with matching white pants and shoes. On his head, a Bailey of Hollywood Roll Up II Panama Fedora, a fake white beard over the lower part of his mask, and fake glasses over eyes. He's holding a cane with an orange semi-clear ball as the handle in one hand and his phone playing the music in the other.
"Wade? Why are you dressed like John Hammond and playing the theme to "Jurassic-"" Peter starts to ask before realizing, "Thawne sent us to dinosaur times, didn't he?"
"Indeed he did. Don't worry, you'll go back in a few minutes. You told an earlier version of me this in your near futureand well…" Wade replied as he started to laugh at the situation while talking to him, "I just couldn't resist the joke. Little awkward since my actor's ex-wife is starring in the 7th film. But hey, I love those films."
"Uncle Peter, who is this?" Nora asked, still by the side of her unconscious brother.
"You don't know-" Peter started to ask before realizing, "No, of course you don't know him. If Iris can barely tolerate me, there's no way in hell that she'd let you know who Wade is."
"Well until you get sent back, enjoy the view to this awesome music, and be glad Thawne didn't send you near any predator dinosaurs." Wade said as he gestured towards a nearby herd of Brachiosauruses. "This is quite the coincidence cause Meena's actress plays a different character with a similar name, Yasmina aka Yaz, in the Jurassic Park universe and she's one of your love interests in What If Universe's "Spider-Man: Camp Cretaceous" along with a character voiced by Jenna Ortega"
Peter and Meena then look at each awkwardly before turning away to avoid each other.
Back in 2022…
Thawne stops in a part of town where he's under an overpass, only for him to laugh at the chaos of the civilians running in fear. But he soon hears Barry catching up to him. But before Barry can even throw lightning at him again, Thawne snaps his fingers so that Barry is frozen in time.
"Whew. Well, well, well. Who's faster now, Flash?" Thawne quipped at his frozen nemesis.
Just then, police cars pull up. But before they can even exit their vehicles, Thawne uses his red lightning like Emperor Palpatine and has a continuous blast to the police cars. But before he ends it to see the cars catch fire, his happiness is changed with the feeling of an extremely painful headache and he doesn't know why. He looks up with his eyes to see a katana blade sticking out of his forehead. It's then that Wade Wilson comes up from behind dressed in his Deadpool costume (this is well before the previous scene).
"'Sup, Nick Snowden." Wade said to Thawne, who couldn't reply. "Which is fitting because it's Christmas day and who better to be on my naughty list than ole' Santy Claus here."
And like with Dopinder in the first movie, this scene takes place in April, maybe even March.
"Whatever!" Wade replied before turning back to Thawne. "Also, you look like the Dark Flash from the Flash solo film…or does he look like you in this black costume? Oh who am I kidding, the creators of that film never watched this show or the 90s show." Commenting on Thawne's black suit.
In my head cannon, the only reason DCEU Flash finally goes by the Flash in the Snyderverse is because of his encounter with Arrowverse Barry in the Crisis episode of "Arrow."
"Yeah, I agree." Wade replied before turning to Barry, still frozen. "Anyway, you're probably wondering why you're still frozen. Well, Thawne isn't dead yet. But he will be." He then turned back to Thawne. "And you're probably wondering why my swords can cut through your uniform since it was created by the Negative Forces and should be tougher than even the hardest metals in the world. Well, I got these from the What If Universe version of me who was traveling the multiverse before his spinoff. These are made from adamantium, the same metal as Wolverine's claws and skeleton. But wait, there's more! He also had several wizards (like, Doctor Strange, Constantine, Galdalf, and Harry Dresden) enchant them to make them extra harmful to speedster's powered by Velocity or the Negative Forces. But to make sure I'm doubly successful, I'm applying vampire and zombie rules to you. To paraphrase "Shaun of the Dead," "Remove the head or destroy the brain." And to quote the underrated video game, "Brütal Legend…""
Wade then uses the other katana to chop Thawne's head off as he shouts in a Jack Black impression, "DECAPITATION!" He then throws the head with the first katana up in the air and jumps up to kick it away as he says in an impression of a British sports announcer, "Wade Wilson, forward for Wrexham, from outside the box…GOAL!" He yells as his foot makes contact with Thawne's head, kicked towards the police cars. Shortly afterward, Barry is finally unfrozen and looks in horror at what Wade just did as Thawne's head and torso disappear in a flash of red light.
"What just happened?" Barry asked in confusion.
"The enchantment from my swords caused him to be erased from the timeline. So, you'll never see him again."
"You-you killed him!"
"Well, you weren't going to. In the original episode, Cecile frees the positive forces (including the speed force), they give you powers to make you evenly matched with Thawne, you realize that neither of you should balance the scales, meditate so that none of his blasts hits you, and then he tries to summon more power from the forces, which overloads and causes him to die and stop any past versions from returning to fight you and your family. Now, that may work for a TV show where you're the main hero, but since Nightwing Josh couldn't think of a way to incorporate Spidey into the final climax, wanted Thawne to have more comeuppance than what the show gave him, and wanted me to return, this is what you got."
"But don't you feel bad for taking a life? It makes you no different from him."
"Barry, he wanted to kill for power and chaos. I'll admit, I like killing, but usually bad guys and to help the people I love. Besides, outside of the Phantom Zone, there's no prison on Earth that would have held him and after what he's done to you over the decades, he deserves it. If I had the power to turn him back into the Thawne that Meena loved, I would."
"How did you know about Meen-" Barry starts to ask before sighing that there was no point. "Nevermind. Even so, you're still an escaped convict and I-"
"Barry?" Said a familiar female voice to Barry. He turns to see that Jay Garrick has just arrived with the recently resurrected Iris West-Allen.
"Iris?!" Barry exclaims with joy as he rushes over to embrace her.
"Ah, Iris West-Allen, the one person a lot of Arrowverse fans despise. For once, I'm glad that you're here to distract Barry while I use the TVA pad I found a few years ago. Would have used it to get here quicker, but I had to let it charge." Wade says as he uses it to create a time window and jumps into it backwards as he flips Barry and Iris off.
"Who was that?" Iris asked as they broke their embrace.
"It's a long story." Barry replied.
Just then, in a flash of green light, Deon, Bashir, and Alexa arrive with someone who looked like Barry's mom, Nora.
"Relax Barry, it's us, the positive forces Cecile saved us." Speed Force Nora reassured him.
"Oh, thank God." Barry said in relief before realizing. "Wait, Thawne sent our future kids, Nora and Bart, and my friends, Peter and Meena back in time to a billion years ago!"
"Don't worry, Barry, I got it." Deon reassures him before snapping his fingers, causing Peter, Meena, Nora, and Bart (who is awake and standing on his own two feet) to reappear.
"Dad?" Bart asked before he and Nora went up to hug him.
"Mom?" Nora asked as she noticed her mother after the ordeal that they went through in the last few hours. They then went up to hug her.
"Oh, hey Iris." Peter said weakly, not really caring that she was back, but was still trying to be polite. He then looked over at the forces. "I'm assuming that's the positive Speed Force looking like Barry's mom and that means that they're the good guys."
"We are indeed Peter Parker." Speed Force Nora replied.
"Well, that's good." He replied, but not just because they won the battle. With Thawne and the Negative Forces defeated and Iris safe, he now had no responsibilities holding him back from going home.
Meanwhile, in Hell…
Thawne woke up to discover he was not in Central City anymore.
"Well, well, well, look who finally kicked the bucket." Said a familiar female voice.
He turns to see that the source of the voice was Frost, who was with many familiar faces to Thawne…including himself, dressed like a scientist with a yellow tie.
"What the hell? You're me, you shouldn't even exist after you became me again?" Thawne asked, but he also noticed that his voice was different…yet familiar. He also screams in pain at the massive headache he just received with the thought, "You're not as smart as you think you are." "The hell is going on?"
"Thanks to Barry creating me in Flashpoint, I have a soul. Which means that when Meena eventually dies, we'll be reunited." Eobard informed him. "But as for your other question, the answer is in the question. You're dead and you're now in hell."
"Considering I killed at least two of you, I got that part." He replied with gritted teeth as he was still feeling the headache, but still realizes, "I sound like you. I'm regular Eobard Thawne again, aren't I?"
"Well, you didn't think you'd still look like Harrison Wells when you died, did you? But either way, you may want to write down your lesson on your chalkboard." Stein points out.
"What are you-" He starts to ask as he steps forward, only to trip as something heavy was holding his leg back. He looks over to see that his leg is chained to a mobile chalkboard. "Let me guess, I have to write down the thought I keep hearing in my head multiple times?" Thawne asked, which they already nodded in confirmation. "Great, considering my nemesis is also a Bartholomew, this punishment seems ironic."
"Oh, there's more than that." Frost told him. "The people who you hurt on Earth and their relatives can punish you here. And I can't think of anyone who doesn't deserve first crack at you other than Nora here."
"Normally, I don't condone violence. But after everything you've done to my sweet boy…" Nora says before cracking her knuckles, "... I'm gonna enjoy this."
"You'll have to catch me first." Thawne replied, grabbing the chalkboard and running, only to find that he's barely moved a foot away. His feet feel like lead.
"They don't want you to avoid your punishment, moron!" Ronnie yelled.
"Yeah, did you honestly believe you'd still have your powers down here?" Hunter Zolomon pointed out.
"Even I don't have the powers that Meena gave me." Eobard pointed out.
The gang of heroes and family walked (which was faster than any movement that Thawne could do) up to Thawne and as Nora's fist was about to make contact, the only other thing going through his head (aside from the lessons to write on the chalkboard) was "Oh, shit." For the first time in a long time, Thawne was scared.
Later, at the Loft…
The heroes reunite and relax after their victory as Joan Williams, wife of Jay Garrick from 2049, was scanning Iris with a device.
"Iris, there's no sign of your time sickness anywhere. You're completely cured." Joan told her after reading the results of the scan.
"And Gideon says that there's no Thawne anywhere in the timeline." Nora West-Allen informed them as she reads a hologram from her gauntlet.
"Wade actually did it." Peter realizes, happy for his friend.
"Then it's really over. All of it." Iris realized with joy.
"Not entirely." Barry said as he looked over at Peter with a smirk.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh nothing life threatening or anything, just that Constantine finally called back before we fought the Negative Forces, informing us about magic users who could help Peter get back home."
Iris then turned towards Peter. "Why didn't you leave when you had the chance?"
"Because, Iris, you were still kidnapped and even though I don't have many positive feelings for you, I still have a responsibility to save people, including you." Peter replied. "Also, Chester and Allegra want to throw me a going away party in a few days."
"We'd love to attend, but I think it would be wise for me and Bart to head back to the future now." Nora told them
"By the way. Bart, Nora, about the way I behaved today-" Barry started to apologize.
"Uh-huh. No, not after all the things that you have helped us with." Bart interrupted, not needing an apology.
"He's right, Dad." Nora told him. "At the end of the day, all that matters is you did the right thing."
Barry nodded at Nora and Bart's statement in agreement.
"And on that note, I think we should go back to our lives in 2049." Jay pointed out. They all stood up to wish each other goodbye to each other. "Great work today, Flash, as always." Jay told Barry as he shook his hand and then hugged him.
"Thank you." Barry replied, accepting the Hug.
Jay then turned to Peter to shake his hand as Barry hugged Joan goodbye. "I've heard great things about Spider-Man. I sincerely hope you find your way home."
"Thanks, it's good to see you again, Jay." Peter replied.
"You know me in your timeline?"
"Not as well as Barry, but I've seen you when our team did holidays, like Fourth of July barbecues."
Barry then had a group hug with his future kids.
"Thank you for everything." Barry told them
"Don't sweat it, Pops." Bart replied. "It was all "aster, no "dis.""
"I have no idea what that means."
"You didn't need to." He replied as he and Nora hugged Iris goodbye. They then went to stand next to Jay and Joan. "All right, it was nice seeing you, Uncle Peter. Love you, Pops, Mom."
"See you guys." Nora said as she waved goodbye.
"We love you." Iris replied.
The three Speedsters of 2049 sped Joan and themselves back to the future. After they left, Iris and the two heroes turned to Meena.
"How are you feeling?" Barry asked Meena.
"Like there was so much I didn't know." She replied with a chuckle. "But more importantly, B.L.O.C. is no longer working. It was never my idea, was it?"
"No, it wasn't. The Negative Speed Force used the machine to pick its avatars. You were a means to an end."
Meena nodded in understanding, but still sad about everything that's happened.
"I'm sorry you lost your speed." Peter said to her, sympathetically.
"Don't be. It was never my dream to be a speedster."
"I know I never got to meet him, but…Eobard seems like a very special person." Iris told her, sympathetically.
"He was."
Peter then got out a familiar yellow tie from the side of the couch. "We found this back at S.T.A.R. Labs. Figured you'd want it as a keepsake." He told her.
"Thank you, Peter. And I probably shouldn't have been surprised that you were Spider-Man." She told him, causing the two to share a chuckle. She then turned to her Speedster mentor, Barry. "Thank you…for everything." She told him before turning to leave. "I should go."
"Meena, look, if you need anything, just call us, okay? We're here for you." Barry told her as they walked her to the door.
"I know." She replied. "Oh, and if Team Flash ever needs a helping hand, as in the technical kind, you know where to find me."
Two days later at the West house…
Team Flash came together to celebrate Peter's going away party, with the exception of Iris and Caitlin. Joe was going to come later, but he had to grab the pizzas, despite Barry's suggestion that he'd get them. Peter told him it was okay, especially because he had other plans.
"While Joe's gone, I'm gonna continue a tradition from my timeline that Cecile knows about." Peter started to tell them.
"Oh no, they don't need to do it as well." Cecile said with some laughter.
"C'mon, it'll be fun."
"What are you two talking about?" Allegra asked.
"Well in my timeline, we started to notice after the Crisis that Joe and Cecile weren't married until 2023 and I've noticed that the same is true here."
"That's impossible, of course they're-" Barry started to say before realizing, "oh shit. He's right. You two aren't married."
"Honestly, I didn't realize it myself until Peter told me." Cecile admitted
"So you want us to tell Joe so he'll propose?"
"No, on my Earth, the team secretly bet on when he'd pop the question." Peter explained.
"That sounds kinda mean, like you're making fun of Joe-" Allegra started to say.
"I already put down twenty on Jenna's first day of kindergarten and Peter when Nora is eventually born." Cecile told them, letting them know that she approves of the bet.
After a beat, Allegra replied with a changed attitude. "What are the rules?"
"Don't tell or hint to Joe about the bet and don't tell or hint to him when he should propose. And every New year, we each add Another twenty to the pot." Peter explained.
"Well, I guess if Cecile has no objections, I'm in." Barry proclaimed.
"What about you, Pete? You're leaving." Chester pointed out.
"Then I'll just have to come back to collect my prize." Peter quipped, which everyone laughed at.
It's then that Joe arrived with the pizzas.
"What's so funny?" He asked as he noticed the laughter.
"Oh, just classic Peter." Cecile lied.
"Ok, well, Barry there's more pizzas in the car, help me get them."
"Oh, now you want my help." Barry quipped.
"Yeah, yeah, shut up and help."
As Barry and Joe went out the door, Peter turned to Cecile.
"Actually, Chester told me that you now have telekinesis, Cecile." Peter asked her.
"Yeah, we accidentally mixed up the coffees and when I found out that I had Chester's, it just automatically went from his hand to mine, despite the fact that he was several feet away and didn't throw it." Cecile explained.
"And I immediately said that the Force was strong with this one." Chester told him.
"Or the Schwartz." Peter quipped, which Chester and Allegra laughed at, with the exception of Cecile.
"I don't get it." Cecile stated.
"Wait, you've never seen "Spaceballs?" Peter asked. Cecile shook her head. "Well, that settles it, we're introducing you to that movie."
"Peter-"
"It's my going away party and I should say how I want to spend it before leaving."
Cecile lets out a sigh. "Yeah, why not."
"Why not, what?" Joe asked as he and Barry entered the house.
"Cecile has never seen "Spaceballs," so we're watching that now." Peter told them.
After they ate their pizzas and watched "Spaceballs," Barry went over to Peter to have a word in private with his temporary partner.
"Sorry that Iris had to work." Barry apologized to Peter, who was sitting by the window of the living room.
"Not complaining." Peter replied, nonchalantly. "I've had roughly less than a month to know her and I didn't want to. I am still surprised that she recommended that you play Dungeons and Dragons. She never played with me, Chester, and Allegra before she vanished. Maybe we'd bond over a session if she did. I'm mostly depressed about Caitlin's absence."
"We can call her and Carla if you want."
"No, she needs to talk to you when she's ready. Don't want to scare her away any more than we already have."
After a beat, Peter let out a chuckle.
"What?" Barry asked.
"This was where my Caitlin and I expressed our feelings for each other. You were outside on the front porch, doing the same with Iris after you defeated Zoom, while Caitlin revealed her feelings for me. Interestingly, I had previously had a dream of doing the same with her and in reality, the same thing happened, but with her instead of me, minus Zoom killing one of us."
"That sounds nice."
"How are you feeling, with Thawne finally dead?"
"I'm not happy that Eobard had to die in order for him to finally be defeated. But you all were right earlier, I shouldn't have tried to kill him."
"Wait, what?" Peter asked with confusion.
"You know, your speech about killing him was what Thawne wanted."
"Um, no. I wanted you to not kill him in anger. I have nothing against killing, but only if it's the final option and let's face it, you would have faced that option that night."
"I'm honestly surprised that you feel that way."
"Well, Ollie wasn't wrong to do it when he started his vigilantism. But despite what Joe believes, he never killed unless it was a last resort. Even my friend Jessica had to deal with this one villain. She tried containing him in a specially made cell, but that didn't work out. She went through every option before finally killing him. I'm not saying to kill all criminals, but Thawne deserved it, even if it meant he was the only one you purposely killed."
"Ok, I think I understand what you're talking about. But even if I did, why not kill him in anger?"
"Barry, do you know why I often make jokes as Spider-Man while facing bad guys?" Peter asked, which Barry shrugged as he shook his head. "Well, part of the reason is that I'm so scared, I make jokes to mask my fear from them. But I also do it to piss off the bad guys so that they get so angry, they make mistakes. That was what Thawne wanted, you to make a mistake so that he'd get the upper hand."
"Okay, thanks for the talk."
About an hour later, the time came for Peter to say his goodbyes.
"Thanks for the bed, Joe. And I'm sorry I was rude about you mocking Barry." Peter told Joe as they hugged.
"Hey, I was an ass. I'll admit that. Sometimes I need a good kick in the ass." Joe told him.
Peter then turned to Cecile and Allegra. "These are for you two." He says as he pulls out two black domino masks from his pocket. "They're even from the same material as the mask Barry originally made for Oliver."
"Thanks Peter." Allegra said as she gave Peter a hug.
"Outside of my aunt, you're the best Dungeon Master I've ever had." He whispered to her in the middle of their hug.
"Gonna miss you, Peter." Allegra said before he hugs Cecile next.
"In all honesty and joking aside, I hope Joe pops the question. I'll try to be there for your wedding." Peter whispered in their hug.
"Gonna miss you, man. The lab will be a lot emptier without you." Chester told him.
"Well, I'm leaving the velocity suit here. That way you can back up Barry if you wish to."
"Thanks, Pete." He replies as he also hugs Peter, who also whispers something to him.
"For God's sake, ask her out." Peter whispered, much to Chester's confusion.
The last person he needed to say goodbye to was Barry.
"Why don't we say our goodbyes outside." Barry said as he gestured to the door.
"Uh, sure." Peter says as he grabs the bags he had by the door. Before he and Barry exit the house, he turns back to Team Flash. "Bye guys."
They all reply their farewells before he follows Barry outside the house.
"So, the other day, you said you'd handle my travel arrangements. So, are you speeding me to New York? Do I have to take the train? What?" Peter asked.
Barry replied by taking a keyfob out of his pocket and clicked a button, drawing attention to a new hybrid car parked near the house.
"You're giving me a car?" Peter asked.
"Thought you'd like to take a road trip." Barry replied.
"What if Doctor Strange does send me home?"
"I checked Google, there are garages where you can store your car for multiple days. Just mail or FedEx the key fob overnight and I'll go there and drive it back." Barry replied.
"Ah, have me use up all the money I earned at S.T.A.R., huh?"
"Actually, I'm giving you severance pay. Check the trunk."
Peter complied, finding a duffel bag in the trunk. He opened it to discover that it was filled with cash.
"What? Where did you-" Peter asked.
"It's from my inheritance from Thawne, same for the car." Barry explained.
"Barry, this is about $100,000. If Iris finds out-"
"She'll be angry, but not for very long. I'm sure she'll be more forgiving knowing that you stayed longer to save her."
"Barry, this is very generous, but what if Doctor Strange can't send me home?"
"Then drive back, you'll always be a member of the Team Flash of this universe."
"Yeah, but…what if I don't want to come back?"
"What do you mean? Is it because Iris is back?"
"Well it's a factor. But I feel like I haven't done much in helping you, like you would've been just as successful if I wasn't there."
"That's not true-"
"There was nothing I could do against the negative forces or Thawne with their powers. Hell, Negative Alexa shrugged off my ice webbing."
"We all fail at times, the answer is not giving up." Barry told him. They were both silent after a beat. "Tell you what, if you can't get home and still want to leave Central City, I'll understand. But next time I face a big time villain, I'm gonna call you and you're gonna come back me up. Deal?" Barry asked with his hand extended.
Peter shook his hand. "Deal." He replied before changing the handshake into a bro hug. "Bye, Barry." He told his friend.
"Good bye, Peter." Barry replied before they broke the hug.
Peter then put the rest of the bags in the trunk, closed it, and went into the driver's seat of the car and drove away. A few minutes later, Peter texted Frankie to meet him. He wanted to say goodbye to the doppelgänger of his daughter.
Peter knocked on the front door of Frankie's apartment. She had off work that day, so she gave Peter her address to talk.
"Hey Peter, come in." Frankie said to greet him. "I'd offer you something, but I just have some snacks. Was gonna go shopping in a bit."
"I won't keep you long. I came to tell you that I'm leaving Central City." Peter told her.
"Oh no. I'll miss you." Frankie said, a little depressed. She went over to hug him.
"Before I go. I want to tell you the truth. You don't have to say anything afterwards, in fact, I'd rather that you didn't. You'll probably think I'm crazy and never want to see me again. But to quote Barry, to understand what I'm about to tell you, you need to do something. You need to believe the impossible. Can you do that?" Peter asked, a little nervously and Frankie nodded in response. "First of all, I-"
"-am Spider-Man."
"What?"
"That's what you were about to say, right?"
"Well…yeah. How did you know?"
"I mean, you work with Barry and Frost at S.T.A.R. Labs and started around the same time that Flash gets a new partner, Spider-Man. It probably could have been Mark Blaine, but something tells me based on the few times I've met him, he's obsessed with cold things and that was the only reason he was with Frost."
"Yes! Thank you!" Peter exclaimed, glad that someone else felt the same way.
"But why would I be angry about that? I'm a new friend, I understand why you waited to tell me until you were ready. But why would I think that's impossible?"
"That's not the impossible part that I was about to tell you."
"Oh, okay."
"You see…I'm from another timeline. You see, there I was Spider-Man for the last twenty years, give or take. I even trained my Barry when he became the Flash. There I was married to Caitlin…and Frost, but that was before they were two people, but they both agreed to share me. But you…you were our daughter. Instead of Barry on top of that hospital talking you down, it was me. Instead of sending you back into the foster system, I sent you to New York to live with a friend of mine. After we dealt with Savitar, I brought you back to Central City and adopted you. The day that you called me "dad" was one of the best days of my life, but also one of the worst, because a good friend also died that day. I wish I could have been here to be your father too. Anyway, that's about it."
Throughout the whole speech, Frankie looked at Peter with wide eyes, but kept her word and was silent.
"You don't have to say anything. In fact I'd rather you didn't. If you're angry about what I just said, I rather you not saying anything to make what could be our last words be something that you'll regret. I might know how to get home now, but I wanted to say goodbye before I left…so, goodbye. I'll show myself out and leave you alone now." Peter tells her before leaving the apartment.
Frankie is still silent. She's not sure why or how, but she starts to remember everything.
Peter, not Barry, talking her down on the roof of the hospital.
The months she spent in New York with Jessica Jones and the Defenders.
Peter adopting her.
Meeting May, Miles Morales, and Lucius Fox.
Bonding with Caitlin and Frost.
Playing laser tag with Peter, Caitlin, May, Lucius, Barry, and Cisco.
Saving Kara from the Nazis from Earth-X with Felicity Smoak.
Calling Peter "dad" on the Waverider.
Peter and Caitlin mourning Martin Stein.
Her "Dad" training her to be a hero.
Saving Central City from DeVoe's falling satellite as the hero, Metella.
Meeting Nora and bonding over being the daughters of superheroes.
Discovering that her dad would also vanish in the Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Caitlin adopting her.
Helping Wade Wilson save his girlfriend with her parents and Miles.
Learning that she would become a sister.
Meeting her brother and sister from the future.
Fighting both Cicadas and the Reverse-Flash.
The Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Barry and Patty's vow renewal.
Her parents' wedding.
The birth of her brother and sister.
Dating Miles.
College life.
Battleworld.
Frost revealing that she was pregnant.
Going to fight Kraven and King Shark with help from Barry, Miles, and her dad, only to be swept in a blue light and find herself with different memories, working in a donut shop, and pregnant.
She didn't know how long it was since Peter told her who he was and left and the flood of memories entered her head, but it didn't matter how long it was. She had to find her dad. She ran out of the apartment and down the stairs (she didn't have time to wait for the elevator). By the time she made it onto the street, she was exhausted, leaning against the wall of the building. The pregnancy took a lot out of her. She saw Peter about to re-enter his car, but she was too tired to run up to him.
"DAD!" She yelled in desperation.
Fortunately for her, he heard her just before he closed the door. He turned to see her against the wall and ran over to help her.
"Are you okay?" Peter asked.
"A little tired, but I'm okay, Dad."
"Wait, what?"
"When I first called you Dad, it was on the Waverider. You just escaped Earth-X and I was rescued by the Legends. It was also the day that Martin Stein died. You still send his grandson presents on his birthday and Christmas. He's named after his first Firestorm partner, Ronnie, who was your best friend since highschool and Mom's first fiancé."
"You-you remember?"
She nods with tears in her eyes. They then embrace in a hug. Father and daughter reunited.
"But…I don't understand. How did you get here? Why did you just remember me? And why are you pregnant?" Peter asked in disbelief.
"I don't know. One minute, I was on my way to stop Kraven and King Shark, the next, I'm pregnant, working in a donut store."
"You never said who you were a surrogate for."
"I never knew. I just knew that I was a surrogate for someone."
"Well, it's odd that you, me, and Wade were brought here and that you had false memories and that you're pregnant. Maybe Doctor Strange can answer our questions."
"The wizard from Earth-616?"
"I believe there is a doppelgänger of him here who can get us home."
An hour later, they packed up all of Frankie's clothes, electronics (nothing too big, she didn't have a TV, but used her laptop and phone to blow off steam) and toiletries. She sent an email to her landlord and boss at MM Good Donuts to let them know that she was leaving. They then headed to her bank to cancel her accounts.
"Okay, everything is canceled except our cell phone plans, but that can be the last thing that we do when we send them with the car keys to Barry. But for now…New York!" Peter cheered as he got in the driver's seat of the car.
"New York!" Frankie cheered with her father.
"Concrete jungle where dreams are made of!" Wade Wilson sang as he popped up from the back seat, where he was hiding.
Instead of his red and black uniform he previously wore, he was dressed in casual clothes, but his hands and head were bare and showed his tumor like skin. Peter and Frankie scream in shock. While Peter's spider-sense didn't tingle, telling him it wasn't a threat, Frankie immediately used her powers to send her knife at Wade's heart.
"You know, Jake Peralta was right, that lyric doesn't sound right - "where dreams are made of"?" Wade continued, unbothered by the knife in his chest. He then looks down at it. "Well, to quote your Earth-18 technical step son, "Oh, look at that. I've been impaled.""
"Wade?!" Peter and Frankie exclaim.
"What are you doing here?" Peter asks.
"You didn't think you'd go home without me, now did ya?" Wade asked as he pulled the knife out and handed it back to Frankie. "You know, you're lucky that I'm wearing red civilian clothes, child version of the Nolanverse Talia Al Ghul."
"How'd you know we were going home?"
"Well, what else was going to happen? This is the adaptation of the season finale and there was no way that Nightwing Josh was going to extend this plot to when he adapts season 9."
You're right, I have other plans for how I'm handling season 9.
"Ok, I'm gonna ignore what you just said. You can come too. Considering I've been away from Caitlin and Frost for so long, I'm sure you've been missing Vanessa?"
"Damn straight, peanut."
"Well, I can sympathize. After all, we both helped you reunite with her once before, why not once again."
"All right, let's get this show on the road!"
A few hours outside of Central City, they stop by a rest stop for…well, resting. Peter looks at the horizon towards the direction of New York City.
"What are you thinking about?" Frankie asked as she went up to him.
"It's just…after all these months of interacting with their doppelgängers, we're so close to reuniting with our family. To finally kiss your moms, hold them, and-" Peter explained.
"I get the picture, dad." She interrupted, not wanting her father to finish that story. "I get it, I miss them too."
At another part of the rest stop, Wade looks at the father and daughter with depression.
"Just show the scene of Mark turning Caitlin into Khione." Wade said.
Meanwhile in Caitlin's apartment…
Caitlin Snow had been in the Consciousness Resurrection Chamber, created by her and Mark Blaine to turn the latent Frost DNA inside into her second personality again, before separating again, so that they can have Frost back. After several days of "stewing" in the chamber, Mark is awoken from his nap on the desk, to a notification on his laptop saying…
""Chamber malfunction?"" He read. "What do you mean "chamber malfunction?!" He then growled as he rushed over to the chamber, pressing buttons on it to get a positive result as he cursed under his breath.
Soon, the chamber opened.
"Frost, are you okay?" Mark asked in concern, but he doesn't get an answer. "Frost?" After looking carefully at her, he realizes that this is neither Frost nor Caitlin. "Who the hell are you?"
"A friend…I think." Said the woman in the chamber (who is unseen to us…for this chapter, anyway), in a similar voice of Caitlin and Frost.
"It's Khione, just say it's Khione, even if she's not named that yet. You've already been through the seven or eight months between seasons, you already have this knowledge." Wade said.
Well, yes. But I wanted to add some mystery like the scene did.
Wade looked back over at Peter, who didn't know why, but his Spider-sense tingled, though only briefly. He looked around wondering where the danger was from. He decided to shrug it off since it was likely that the danger was over, otherwise it would still be tingling.
"Nightwing Josh, considering that I know how the show ends, please tell me that Peter and Caitlin get their happy ending?" Wade asked.
I'm not heartless, of course they will. Spoilers. They're one of my favorite ships from What If Universe's stories, hence the inspiration for this story. Hell, I'm hoping he does the ship again in "A far way from home."
"Well, since you've said that you're going to do season 9, you might as well use the teaser from the end of the episode, but please leave out the West-Allen romance schmaltz."
I agree, I don't want that either, even if I contrast it later.
That night at the West-Allen loft…
After a minute of West-Allen romance that makes me want to roll my eyes, Iris pointed something out.
"Barry, you know the Negative Speed Force will need to find a new avatar." Iris told him.
"I know." Barry replied.
Meanwhile…
Peter was outside his motel room looking out at the now more visible skyline of New York City. They decided to stop for the night, so that they could go see Doctor Strange in the morning or early afternoon. They got two rooms that each had twin beds, mostly because Peter didn't want himself and Frankie to be bothered by Wade all night. As Peter looked out at the city, Barry and Iris' conversation is still heard by us, the audience.
"Because the universe is all about balance…which means that one day, the Negative Forces will have to pick one." Barry's continued saying.
"I wonder who they'll choose." Iris said to him.
"We won't know until it happens. But whenever that day comes, and whoever that avatar is…we'll be ready for them."
Central City, 2099…
Nathaniel Summers, Aka Cable, wakes up in his apartment. It has been wrecked from a recent attack from the Speedsters. At his feet were piles of ashes. Outside, Central City was in ruins. The only thing that looked pristine was S.T.A.R. Labs, his destination. He then tapped a button on his watch.
"Miguel, it's Cable. Call the others. We're going to rob S.T.A.R Labs." Cable said into his watch.
A/N: Wade dressing as John Hammond was partly inspired by the "Deadpool 2" promo where he dressed as Bob Ross over his uniform.
Anyone catch my "Doctor Who" and "The Good Place" references?
There's an ABC Family/Freeform film called "Snow," Tom Cavanaugh plays Nick Snowden aka the latest Santa Claus. It had a sequel called "Snow 2: Brain Freeze."
Harry Dresden is a protagonist of the "Dresden Files" book series, he's a wizard/private eye in Chicago, dealing with paranormal crimes. There was an TV show adaptation by the Sci Fi Channel (before it was called SyFy) where Harry was played by "Arrow" actor, Paul Blackthorne. As of March 2025, you can stream the show on Tubi.
"Brütal Legend" was a fantasy video game from 2009 inspired by Heavy Metal music. It starred Jack Black and was made by Double Fine Productions (same studio behind the "Psychonauts" games).
