Ever since she got her bat powers, Lucy has been relishing the exhilarating feeling of spreading her wings and flying into the night, and even fighting crime...despite her brother's and parents' better judgment. But she and Lisa operate in secret, Lisa being involved due to the fascination of Lucy's mutant abilities and Lucy just because she's living the dream. Going by the alias "Hybrid", she works on cases that are similar to the experiments that made her this way, which include cross-species genetics and other kinds of mutations, such as Killer Croc or the Werewolf.

When she also found out that her brother had fought a werewolf before, she most definitely wanted to hear that story and hoped to one day meet it, maybe even face him herself.

But until then, she was looking into the disappearance of Dr. Kirk Langstrom, the same scientist who had designed the experiment that gave her bat-like abilities. He had disappeared around the first time the family visited Gotham Museum, during the whole "Heretic" fiasco, him and his wife, and no one's seen them since. Lucy didn't know why it took this long for someone to even start investigating.

(Author's mistake. Sorry.)

At the moment, she was on patrol, unofficially sanctioned by Lisa and herself, and hopefully still kept under wraps from her own brother. She still had the suit that Alfred made for her, having adjusted it from time to time, and her own gear and gadgets at her disposal; although, her wings, claws, and fangs were her favorite equipment, along with natural night-vision, something that she was using at the moment.

Oracle:"(via com) There have been rumors about flying creatures, aside from you yourself, dear gothic sister, out and about above the streets of Gotham. Some believe it to originally be Batman, but far more beastly than anyone had ever described before. Though, from what I can gather, this Bat fits the MO of Dr. Langstrom's original experiment."

All Langstrom was trying to do was cure his failing hearing, and he got kidnapped for his troubles. The result of his experiment gave birth to the She-Bat Lucy and the struggle Batman had to go through to subdue her.

Oracle:"In retrospect, mixing one's own DNA with that of a Vampire Bat's was never going to work out well."

Hybrid:"Worked well for me."

Oracle:"Well, that, to be honest, was a lucky break on our account. Lincoln is still working on finding a permanent antidote for you."

Hybrid:"I'll just have to hold off on that until I'm older...I've spotted our flying creature. Talk soon."

From what she could see, neither Lincoln nor Lucy were the only bats in town; specifically, this one was more bat than man, if honest. While the mutation had balanced out in Lucy so that she could have better control over her actions, from what she could see of her comrade, there were others that are not so fortunate. They were basically turned into anthropomorphic bat-human hybrids with feral, animalistic tendencies, and that alone made them as dangerous as they were. Knowing that alone was enough for Lucy to act fast and have this fellow hand-wing grounded as soon as possible, charging into it and ramming into its back. The two of them skidded onto the top of a building, where the Man-Bat victim screeched angrily at the one trying to stop it and tried to fly away. Hybrid wasn't going to allow that just yet, managing to grab hold of its foot and pull it back down to the ground. With that, did it turn to face its detainer.

Hybrid:"You're not going anywhere, my friend."

Though smaller, Lucy was faster and more agile than this poor infected savage, who merely swung their winged claws and came at her with its fangs. But each time it missed, Lucy immediately attacked back, laying on a barrage of hits on what she could tell were the soft spots. Still, this thing was stubborn and not willing to go down so easily. as it tried to make another attempt at flying away. Lucy gave chase and made sure to stay in close proximity while waiting for the right moment to strike.

Hybrid:"Let's see if I can do it like Sam does.

Taking in a gulf of air, and then letting out a very high-pitched...

Hybrid:"SKREEEEEEEEEE-"

...Screech, just like Luna's Girlfriend, Sam the Black Canary, and the sonic blast heads straight towards the Man-Bat and slams him back down onto another adjacent roof. It was enough to knock him out and Hybrid landed to inspect her handiwork.

Hybrid:"(clears throat) ...That went better than intended."

Oracle:"Indeed. Well done, gothic sister. Now, if you'd be so kind as to apply for me a sample of our friend's DNA, I'll analyze it right away."

Taking out a syringe, Lucy does what Lisa asks and it only takes seconds for results to come back to them.

Oracle:"Right, here we go. Hmm...it does seem to be the same formula used by Dr. Kirk Langstrom that led to...monstrous results. But it would see that the formula had been modified to weaponize the condition of the victim. That would explain why he acted more ferocious, in terms of how he tried to fend off against you. It quite literally stimulates the flight or fight instinct within the brain."

Hybrid:"Do we have anything on how he came to be this way?"

Oracle:"There are a number of scientists who could possibly fit in with the work that Langstrom was going into. Some of them, our dear brother even had on his watch list, including Emile Dorian, Achilles Milo, Jason Wooddrue..."

As she went on, there was a shadow looming over another rooftop, followed by glowing feline eyes and a low growl; the latter of which, Lucy heard and turned her head to see another kind of ferocious beast coming at her. She managed to roll onto her back as the creature pounced and kicked it off when it nearly ran its claws into her. Her night vision allowed her to see what she was dealing with, another anthropomorphic beast that was more of a cat than anything else. It...he had grey fur around his body, claws on his hands and feet, pointed ears with a face that was a mix between a cat and a man, a cat-like tail and was wearing torn pants as his only article of clothing.

Hybrid readied herself for another attack but could tell that this was a diversion, as another figure was coming around while ignoring the fight and went to pick up the Man-Bat victim. Lucy tried to reach for him but was kept away by her feline adversary, who attacked relentlessly with sweeping claws and lunges, much like the great cats of the jungle. She couldn't keep dodging forever, but could barely leave a mark on him as he was fast...but not too bright since he acted too much like an animal, which was something Hybrid could use. Waiting for the right moment, she got out of the and let this beast lung into a brick chimney, landing right on his head and leaving him dazed, and providing the mutant superheroine to sink her claws into his.

Hybrid:"(Hiss) Now, I got you."

(SHNNK)

?:"(ROARS)"

Managing to recover, the animalistic man holds the wound Lucy just made with his hand, growling at her as he decides to retreat, now with his accomplice seeming to have gotten what they actually came here for, the Man-Bat victim. Hybrid looked to see them flee, knowing well that she could catch up to them while flying but deciding to give them a head start. With the blood she had gotten from the cat, she could pick the trail.

Hybrid:"Hmm...(sips blood from her nails) Yeah, just as I said. I have you and your scent."

Oracle:"I thought you weren't going to be drinking blood."

Hybrid:"Can't be helped now. But I do know where to go. And about those scientists...which one of them would invest in a giant feline like that?"

Oracle:"That would be Emile Dorian. He had a fascination with cats and was also known for genetic experiments. We might be onto something here."

Hybrid:"I'm going to look into it."

Oracle:"Do make it quick. We only have so much time before Lincoln comes in for his patrol time."

Lincoln:"(far off-screen) Lisa? Are you downstairs, messing with the computer again?!"

Oracle:"Uh-oh. Gotta go. I'll call you back soon."

And with that, Lucy was back on her own as she spread her wings and flew across Gotham, following the scent of the cat to Old Gotham, the perfect place in the city to hide criminal activities. However, even some criminals would stay away from the one territory in the city that's bound to fall apart. But it was just the kind of place for a cat-loving mad scientist to have their monstrous accomplices take another freak of nature away.

The scent led her to one of the stronger buildings that were still standing, one that was fortified and sealed off; sealed off...except from the top.

Hybrid:"The Old Gotham City Police Headquarters. Perfect place to work on illegal experiments. Worry not, my winged comrade, for I will shut this down and set you free. Well...right after you're cured of course."

Managing to find a way inside, Hybrid crawled through the ducts before opening up a vent and then crawling onto the ceiling to look down below. The room she was in seemed to be an old forensic service unit that had been modified into a makeshift lab. Two men in lab coats were in there, one with a black bowl cut and croaked nose, the other with red curly hair and what looked like scratch marks on the side of his face.

Hybrid:"Doctors Milo and Dorian. Looks like they were in cahoots with each other."

She watched as the two creatures from before came in with the Man-Bat, the other revealing to be some kind of Man/Gorilla Hybrid as opposed to his feline compatriot. They had the Man-Bat placed on a table while the two scientists got to examining it, Milo bringing out tools...for dissection.

Dr. Dorian:"Brilliant work, Tygrus, Garth. You two have done exceptionally well, unlike...(gestures to Milo) Most people."

Dr. Milo:"Don't give me that. Merging animal DNA is not really an exact science if your experiments are anything to go by. (looks at Man-Bat Victim) Though, I will admit that Langstrom's work is even more crude."

Dr. Dorian:"The results are not without reasonable, exceptional effects, however. Try not to be deterred in your work there, Achilles. Our employers will want to get back to us on this little side project of ours."

Dr. Milo:"I never waste time, and will grantee perfected results."

Just before he could cut the Man-Bat open, however, a batarang hit the lights and made them flicker, allowing for Hybrid to swoop in and knock down the two scientists, but when she got the two beastly men, Tygrus and Garth, the hybridized cat-man managed to counter Lucy's attack and slam her to the ground. But as the lights continued to go on and off and the fight continued, the two forces of nature practically slammed each other into anything breaking around the room. Dorian and Milo had managed to recover and decided to make themselves scarce, crawling to the door while the altered beasts had their fun.

Dr. Milo:"What on earth is that little cretin?!"

Dr. Dorian:"Certainly not one of ours! Though, I must respect its savagery while equaling Tygrus in strength. Perhaps it would be best to capture her too."

Dr. Milo:"Let me know how that works out for you! I would rather not stay here while anything resembling Bat is-"

(SPOTLIGHTS TURN ON)

Before they could go any further, already managing to make their way outside the building, they looked down on the street to see that police had their old stopping grounds surrounded, with Commissioner Gordon at the scene.

Gordon:"(through a megaphone) We have the place surrounded! Come out with your hands up and surrender yourselves!"

Dr. Milo:"Oh, brilliant..."

But the fighting between Hybrid and Tygrus raged on, storming to the outside of the building with Garth tumbling out and being knocked out cold. Meanwhile, Lucy was unable to hold off against the mutant cat for much longer. Her own strength was failing her. She needed to outthink him.

Tygrus:"(growls)...You will regret coming here."

Hybrid:"Ah...so you do talk."

Tygrus:"You...will not get in the way of my father's work..."

Hybrid:"Hmm...I pity you. But you will have to be taken down..."

Using his own weight against him, Hybrid managed to throw Tygrus over him and put some distance between her and the cat. All while the fight continued, Dorian and Milo stood by and watched from the edge. Even if they couldn't get away from the police now, they could at least enjoy the show.

Dr. Milo:"Finish her off, you big dumb animal!"

Dr. Dorian:"Hey! Do not speak of my finest creation like that!"

Dr. Milo:"Your finest creation is not exactly living up to the expectations of the ultimate life form."

Dr. Dorian:"Well, you're mostly the reason why our plan has come to bust here!"

Dr. Milo:"Oh, really?! You're the mastermind who thought working at an abandoned precinct was a good idea!"

Dr. Dorian:"That was your idea, you fool!"

While those two were arguing, Hybrid resorted to tiring out the Tyger as she continued to dodge swiftly against Tygrus claws until he lunged once more. But then, as Hybrid got out of the way, the feline mutant didn't realize that he was lunging straight to the good doctors, causing them both to be knocked from the balcony and down a hundred-foot drop to the streets below.

Gordon:"Oh, God..."

Acting fast, Hybrid swooped down towards them, putting a lot of effort into her wings before pulling out and firing two grappling hooks, which managed to latch to both Dorian and Milo, saving them as Hybrid started to descend slowly and safely...until Tygrus managed to grab onto both of them to save himself, and he was really heavy. Hybrid's wings were flapping like crazy just as she tried to tighten her grip on the grapples.

Imagine Gordon's face when he saw the two scientists dangling like worms on hooks from the cables wrapped around them while Tygrus nearly killed them in his grip while they slowly floated down like balloons...that is until Lucy lost her grip and they fell onto their faces 5 feet from the ground, the big cat landing on top of them. Spotlights were nearly on Lucy before she managed to fly back onto the top of the old GCPD Building without being seen.

Hybrid:"The police will take care of them. Now, I will see to my comrade."

Rushing back into the lab, she looked to see that the Man-Bat had reawakened, though it had not fully recovered from their previous encounter. But that is when Lucy took notice of some other things about the creature; the tubes that were attached to its chest and going into its nose. This person, Lucy originally believed, was a victim of an experiment taken from a man with good intentions. But this...Lucy had a new thought on who this could be.

Hybrid:"...Dr. Langstrom...look what they've done to you."

The Man-Bat faced her with a pained expression, like a part of his original self returned to mind. He didn't mean any harm, he just had no control of himself.

With that in mind, Hybrid had decided that instead of taking this creature in, she'd set him free. There are other ways to help him...something her brother was working on already. But Langstrom deserved a little freedom until then. With the Night Creature free from his bonds, he was about ready to take flight and escape. But he gave Lucy one last look; it's not like they could fully understand each other...but she was pretty sure he was saying "Thank you".

And with that, he took flight and was gone, all while Lucy watched like she was watching art unfold.

Hybrid:"...Be free, my friend."

Oracle:"You had let him go, didn't you?"

Hybrid:"It'd be wrong to shackle such a magnificent creature."

Oracle:"Yes...Well, you better get back here before our brother decides to shackle another kind of magnificent creature."

And so, with her job done, Hybrid spread her own wings and flew her way back home. She rarely got to go out in secret, but when she did, it was the time when she felt most alive...
