"I should probably get you home" Adam whispered getting off the bed and exiting the bedroom.

"Wh…Adam I don't understand?" I said following him out the room only to be met by Tundra pacing the hallway unsure of what direction to go in as me and Adam were in opposite directions.

"I'm sorry Jay" He sighed rubbing his face as I entered the kitchen "I need to figure some things out…I shouldn't have confused you like that"

"Yeah" I scoffed "No shit" I snapped suddenly becoming filled with anger shrugging past him and walking to the door.

"You can't walk home like that" He gestured to my attire as I realised, I was still dressed in just his t-shirt.

"Just take me home" I whispered trying to push away the burning lump that had formed in my throat.

The journey back to the house was completely silent, I spent every minute going over what had happened between us just moments ago. A million questions ran through my mind as I sat watching the scenery flash by. What had happened? Why had it happened? What did it mean?

"I'll call you" Adam uttered as he pulled up on the driveway. I opened the door to get out but slowly turned back towards Adam.

"Adam?" I whispered as he stared straight ahead "What happened?" I asked him.

'Jayme…" He uttered "I'm with Beth" He told me without looking at me. I nodded in understanding and exited the truck.

I was sat at my desk typing away in silence trying to block out the noise from my co-workers all making plans for the evening seeing as it was a Friday.

"Are you coming Jayme?" Isabelle asked snapping me out of my focus.

"No…probably not" I shook my head "I've got plans" I lied.

"That's a shame" She half smiled "It would be nice if you could join us one day" She added. My phone buzzed on the desk flashing a text message from Adam.

Can we meet tonight?

Adam x

"You know what" I turned to face Isabelle "I can cancel" I told her "Where are we going?"

Sorry got plans

Jayme x

"Great" she squealed flashing her perfect smile "There's a new bar just around the corner we wanted to try it out, I've heard they do amazing cocktails" She giggled "We'll finish here go home and change and meet outside the bar at 7pm" She told me. I knew me and Adam had a lot to talk about but I wasn't ready to do that just yet, he was confusing me and I needed time to straighten my thoughts before seeing him, I hadn't seen or heard from Gavin since the night of our fight either so I figured a nice distraction from all of the chaos wouldn't go amiss.

We really have to talk

Adam x

We will

Jayme x

"I'll have a berry haze" I asked the bartender after searching the menu, a moment later he handed it over the bar and I paid.

"I'm so glad you were able to make it Jayme" Isabelle smiled as we sat opposite each other in a small booth. Her long blonde hair was straightened to perfection, she wore minimal make up and a small red dress with heels. I had opted for a less dressed up look with tight black faux leather pants, a plain tight grey t-shirt and a pair of boots with a small heel, I'd experimented with my make up a little more than usual adding a winged liner and some glittering eyeshadow. Gavin had never let me wear too much make up and I'd enjoyed playing with it a little. "You look great by the way" she said.

"Thanks, so do you" I told her sipping my drink.

"So, what happened?" she asked gesturing to my left hand that was now without its usual wedding band.

"He cheated' I stated matter-of-factly taking another large sip of my drink.

"Men are trash" she snapped downing her drink "Come on let's get some shots" She giggled dragging me to the bar before I could tell her I had never done a shot before. "Two tequilas please" she flashed her perfect smile at the bartender "And two Passion Fruit cocktails" she added after looking at the menu quickly. The bartender placed the lime salt and tequilas down in front of us I looked at the three components in complete confusion unsure what I was supposed to be doing. "Salt, tequila, lime" Isabelle said acting it out.

"I've never had a shot before" I admitted, embarrassed.

"I figured as much" She said putting the salt on the back of my hand and handing me the shot in to my other "Is this the husbands doing?" She asked as she salted the back of her hand.

"Yeah" I nodded awkwardly looking away.

"Well, like I said…men are trash" She repeated as we both took our shots at the same time. I choked as the burn of the alcohol filled my mouth and trickled down my throat, I bit into the lime and I felt my whole face screw up at the bitterness. We spent the next couple of hours sat at the bar drinking cocktails and the occasional shot all whilst trash talking men and swearing them off for the rest of our lives. I told her everything about what had happened between me and Gavin, I failed to mention Adam and how he had been my all consuming thought

"Thanks for inviting me" I told Isabelle as we waited outside the bar for a taxi "I've never had a proper night out before" I giggled as I stumbled a little.

"Anytime" She smiled "We should hang out more"

"Jay?" An all too familiar voice came from across the street.

"Shit" I uttered through gritted teeth as I tried to straighten myself out and look less hammered.

"Jay? Are you kidding me?" Gavin said as he registered the state I was in "You don't even drink" His eyes were dark, almost black and I knew I was in trouble from the expression that was across his face.

"Who's this?" Isabelle asked grabbing my hand and giving it a good squeeze so as to reassure me.

"I'm her husband" He snapped "Who the hell are you?" Gavin turned his gaze towards Isabelle.

"I'm her friend" Her tone dripped with anger as she pulled me toward her slightly, I stumbled and Gavin caught me before I fell "Tell me Gavin….What kind of husband cheats on his wife?"

"I'm taking you home" He whispered to me ignoring Isabelle's question, his tone was full of concern but his facial expression was dark and angry.

"There's a cab on the way" Isabelle told him taking his hands from me.

"I said I'll take her" Gavin argued.

"You're not her husband anymore…She doesn't even have her ring on" Gavin's gaze dropped to my hand and I saw his jaw tighten in anger.

"It's fine Isabelle" I said standing up and turning to face her "I should probably talk to him anyway" I told her, reluctantly Isabelle let me go but I could see worry etched across her face as Gavin put me in his rented car and pulled away.

"What were you thinking?" He asked, his tone cold "You know I don't like you drinking. It makes me worry"

"I haven't seen or heard from you in 5 days Gavin" I took a deep breath "You left and I thought you weren't coming back" I told him "And then I found you with some other woman…again" I added.

"Do you know how embarrassing it is for me for everyone to know about all of our problems?" He asked. I didn't respond I just sat quietly for the rest of the ride home. We pulled up on the driveway and he grabbed my left hand and waving it in my face "And Where is your wedding ring?" He seethed.

"After everything…" I began.

"Do you want to be with me?" He asked.

"Yes" I nodded as tears streamed down my face "But I can't go back to how we were" I told him.

"Jayme I have provided for you for the past 10 years, bought you cars, kept a roof over your head and looked after you that's not been easy for me I loved you so much Jay what part of that can you not go back to?"

"You slept with my best friend" I stated.

"You need to let this go"

"It's not that easy" I admitted.

"If YOU want this to work then you need to drop the subject and put your ring back on" He stated as he lent over me and opened the passenger side door.

"I don't know where it is"

"Find it…Or I'll go home and you'll never see me again"

"I'll find it" I whimpered, hot tears rolling down my cheeks as I got out.

"We'll see" He snapped slamming the door shut and driving off.

"Gavin" I whined as I watched him drive off. I stood silent crying for a moment as his car disappeared into the distance. I turned and broke into a full sprint towards the woodland. The rain had begun to beat down hard and it had turned icy cold. I stopped exactly where I had been when I threw it and began searching, I was on my knees digging into the soaking wet mud like I a dog that had caught a sent. The longer I searched the colder I became the louder and more desperate my sobs became and the more hopeless I felt.

"Jay?" I heard a concerned voice from the dark. I didn't bother to look as I continued searching "Jay what the hell are you doing?" I heard as a pair of hands grabbed my shoulders and lifted me off the floor so I was standing.

"Adam, I can't do it again please I need to find it!" I sobbed falling into his arms, he said nothing but wrapped his arms tight around me, holding me up "I can't go through it again…not again…I can't make it this time" I tucked my head into his chest trying with everything I had to catch my breath between sobs "I'm done" I screamed into his chest as my legs gave way and I fell to a heap on the floor "I can't…Adam please" Adam said nothing in response but sat with me in the rain rocking me like a baby. After a few minutes of silence Adam pushed me leant away and tried again.

"What's wrong Jay?" He asked holding my face.

"He's gone" I whimpered.

"Jay who's gone?" His voice was stern this time.

"Gavin" I sniffed taking deep breaths "I had too much to drink with Isabelle and I told her what he did and when we were waiting for a cab Gavin showed up" I explained in between sob filled deep breaths "He was so angry" I cried "I think he's gone for good." I took deep breaths to steady my breathing and wiped my eyes, my eyeliner coming off as I did so. "I look a mess" I sniffed trying to stand up but stumbling as I did, Adam caught me mid stumble.

"Let's get you home" He told me as he guided me to the house. As we approached the house I could see Gavin's car sat outside, he must have come back. "Stay behind me" Adam whispered as he took a step in front of me and approached the house.

"I should have known" Gavin chuckled as he leant against the front door.

"Fuck off man" Adam growled walking up to him.

"Oh yeah…what are you going to do about it?" Gavin asked with a sly smile.

"Don't push me" Adam snapped grabbing Gavin's collar and pinning him to the wall "I'd love nothing more than to beat the fuck out of you for what you've done to her" I'd never heard Adam's voice like this, it was low and full of menace, he meant every word he was saying. I stood watching everything play out in front of me.

"Gavin" I sniffed taking a step forward "Can we talk?" I asked, he looked over at Adam with a grin "You came back and that must mean something right?" I pointed out clinging on to what little hope I had left that our marriage was worth working for.

"Yeah, as soon as you agree to never see him again" He nodded his head towards Adam. Adam, who still hadn't let go of his collar, slammed him against the wall earning a grown of pain from Gavin.

"Adam please" I pleaded grabbing his arm to try and pull him off, he did as I wanted and let go of him "Gavin, you can't…"

"That's what I thought" He sneered getting in my face like he had so many times before "Just remember, no one will ever out up with you the way I have" He growled, before I could answer Adam's fist came flying through the air slamming into Gavin's cheek, he hit the floor with a thud and a groan. Adam grabbed his collar once more and forced him to stand, bloody coming from his forehead.

"I don't want to see you anywhere near her ever again" He seethed before letting him go, without another word Gavin was gone for a second time that night and this time I was sure I'd never see him again. Devastation washed over me as I bent over holding my sides as if I was holding myself physically together, I took some deep breaths to try and cam myself.

"Let's get you inside" Adam said putting his arms around me and walking me into the house. I began taking off my wet clothes as I entered the bedroom, in my drunken state I didn't think about the fact that Adam was in the room and would see me wearing nothing but a bra and knickers, red lacy ones at that.

"I should shower" I sniffed as I stood in nothing but my underwear, my hands caked in mud.

"Uhhh Yeah" Adam uttered, his eyes fixated on my breasts. I shook my head thinking maybe I was just seeing things and turned to the drawer and began looking for some pyjamas. Slowly he began taking steps towards me. I couldn't figure out if it was my drunken state or adrenaline from the moment, but my brain became a fog as I felt him slowly and nervously make his way up behind me. Both of our breathing had become heavy as he placed his hands on my sides, gently stroking my bare skin. Every cell in my body came alive at his soft touch as his hands made there way on to my stomach and over my belly button piercing, one of the few things Gavin had allowed me to do as he found it 'sexy'. He dipped his head and began softly kissing my neck, trailing down on to my shoulder, I leant into the delicate kisses he placed on me as his hands began exploring my upper body and finally rested on my boobs, I felt myself naturally lean back into him. Suddenly my drunken confidence took over and I snapped.

"You're so confusing" I growled taking a step away so I was out of his clasp no longer incredibly turned on by him but actually unbelievably angry at him "First you kiss me and then you disappear on me for 5 days and now you're back trying to kiss me again" I made my way towards the bathroom.

"I…" He began but I cut him off, those beautiful green eyes I loved looking at so much were full of sadness and confusion.

"No" I stopped before entering the bathroom "YOU kissed me" I pointed at him "You don't get to do this to me" I shook my head "You don't get to make me fall for you and then choose Beth"

"Jay I…."

"I didn't ask you to kiss me" I snapped "YOU did it…then you told me you're with Beth and didn't talk to me for days and then you turn up knight in shining armour making me feel as though I can move on from all of this" I told him "I can't do this Adam…it's not fair"

"I'm SO sorry" He sighed "But…"

"I just need my friend" I sighed "I feel like I'm back to square one again" I said "He's gone and I know I can't let him come back, I love him with all my heart but he's broken me" The tears streamed down my face "You taught me what a good guy is like" I nodded before turning and getting in the shower. When I came out Adam was sat on the end of the bed texting.

"Hey" He smiled as I sat on the bed next to him and tucked my knees under my chin.

"I don't know what to do Adam" I sniffed resting my head on his shoulder as he put an arm around me. Gradually I began drifting off into a drunken sleep but just before I fell into the world of sleep I heard Adam mutter something as he kissed my forehead.

"Yeah….Me neither"
