We entered the house where multiple stars were socialising, dancing, singing, and drinking on various levels, I looked around hoping to see Stu, but he was nowhere to be seen. We walked through the crowd of people saying hello to everyone as we went.
"Hey Adam" A guy spoke as he walked out of the kitchen and towards us both, he looked to be around Adam's age with blonde hair and stubble, he stood a little shorter than Adam, but his presence was just as big.
"Shit no way" Adam exclaimed embracing his friend "Jay" he turned to me "meet Jay" he laughed, we both looked at each other with a smirk "We've been friends since we were kids."
"Did you miss me that much man?" he joked to Adam before giving me a quick hug "hey, I've heard a lot about you" he told me looking at Adam out the corner of his eye as if they had some kind of inside joke. The two stood chatting and catching up for a while as I silently continued looking for Stu hoping he would turn up any minute now. I was pulled from my thoughts as Adam excused himself to use the toilet leaving me and Jay stood together. "I'm glad he found you" he told me, I cocked my head in confusion not knowing what he meant, sensing my confusion he continued "he won't admit it but he was struggling at the time and you helped him out of it" Jay told me, I smiled slightly Adam had never told me what he was going through he had always just been there for me, the greatest friend I could ask for.
"I'm glad I could help" I admitted "even if he never told me he was struggling" I added.
"He's crazy about you" he announced, my eyes widened in shock realising Adam had spoken to Jay about me.
"He just wants to rip my clothes off" I rolled my eyes brushing it off.
"No" he shook his head "that man is my best friend in the whole world, and he doesn't have to tell me I just know he's completely head over heels crazy about you" he told me "This runs way deeper than wanting rip your clothes off Jay" he spoke before I could respond Adam was back.
"How are you two getting on?" he asked.
"Great" Jay announced, I stood rooted to the spot completely shook by what I had just been told.
"I'm going to find Paige" I told them leaving them to chat with Mike and Randy who had just entered the party, I couldn't think about this now.
"You look amazing" Paige giggled looking me up and down as I approached her.
"Thanks" I thanked her shyly a small blush colouring my cheeks, I still felt completely inferior to the other women in WWE, I'd have done anything to look the way they did.
"You just don't get it do you?" she laughed sensing my shyness as she handed me a drink "Look at all the guys in here" she gestured round the room "they're eyes are all on you" she told me. I looked around the room at the guys, she was right they were all looking at me as they spoke and drank, all of them bar one, Adam. I took a deep breath to rid myself of the sinking feeling I had at the fact Adam wasn't giving me a second look, I thought I'd got past this, but I hadn't out of all the guys in the room it was Adams eyes I wanted on me. I hadn't been able to stop thinking about him since his zipped my dress up, his fingers brushing my bare skin, I quickly snapped myself out of it.
"Hello Stranger" A familiar female voice came from behind me I spun round smiling wide.
"Isabelle" I exclaimed pulling her into a hug.
"Wow girl, you look smoking" She beamed, I scoffed looking at her in her tiny little pastel pink dress, her hair straightened to perfection and silver heels on, she looked like she belonged amongst these women, something I couldn't do.
"What are you doing here?" I asked hugging her again.
"I missed my girl" she smiled "so I contacted Adam to organise me flying out for new year" she announced pride clear on her face, I looked around for Adam to thank him, but I couldn't find him anywhere, he had disappeared in the past few minutes and was no longer in the room.
"Sorry, Isabelle this is Paige" I shook my head snapping me out of my own thoughts. They said hello to each other and began to chat, Paige handing her a drink as they spoke. I searched the room watching everyone have a good time, but I couldn't shake this disappointed feeling that Stu wasn't here, I needed to speak to him after he had walked out. Jay's words spun in my head consuming my thoughts as the party went on around me, all this time I had spent accepting that Adam didn't feel anything more for me than friendship and Jay had come along and completely blew everything I thought I knew out of the water.
"JAY!" Isabelle shouted snapping me out of my own head and turning my attention to her.
"Sorry…" I muttered looking at her.
"Beer pong?" She said holding up a small plastic orange ball at me, I gave her a confused look and she rolled her eyes "Come on, I'll show you" she said pulling me to the end of the table with her, she quickly explained the rules to me and turned to Paige who was stood at the opposite end of the table. "So come on, who's your teammate?" she shouted down to her over the music.
"Me" Adam smiled emerging from the other room, Jay by his side, Adam winked at me "Hello Isabelle" he nodded grabbing a ball and throwing it effortlessly landing it in the cup directly in front of me. I sighed and picked the cup up downing the liquid in it, I coughed surprised as pure vodka hit the back of my throat burning as I swallowed. I grabbed the ball and threw it back down, it bounced off the edge of one of the cups and flew to one side, Adam smirked catching it before it flew out of reach "Not quite" he chuckled handing the ball to Paige. Jay was sat on a stool to the side of the table watching the game and I couldn't help feeling that he was watching me and Adam interact taking notes and making assumptions.
"You ok?" Isabelle whispered to me "You seem distracted"
"Stu's not here" I turned to her, she knew what had happened between me and Stu because I'd rang her as soon as he had left, she had comforted me as I told her everything and how Adam had got drunk and passed out outside my hotel room door and the things, he had said both that night and the next day when I called him out. She had told me not to tell him what had happened between me and Stu, she was now surer than ever that Adam had feelings for me, but she made it clear that she didn't like the way he was 'playing with me' as she called it. "We need to talk after this" I told her as Paige threw the ball missing completely.
"If it's Stu you're looking for then stop looking at Adam" she threw the ball back ignoring my request to talk, the ball landed in a cup and Paige drank its contents. I tore my eyes off Adam finally looking at Isabelle and her judging look, I sighed in defeat. We hadn't taken our eyes off each other since we began playing despite Jay's close eye there was something pulling me to Adam as if I was magnetised to him an invisible pull that only the two of us could feel.
"I really would like to see Stu" I told her sternly "I haven't seen him since he walked out" we continued playing the game, I missed every time much to Adam's amusement, unfortunately for Paige Isabelle landed every single one of her shots. It was down to the last two cups, Adam missed for the first time in the whole game. I took a deep breath concentrating on the cup in front.
"I'm not worried" he joked with Paige "she'll miss" he laughed.
"Put more in that cup if you think I'll miss" I told him raising an eyebrow in challenge to him, everybody stopped talking and began watching.
"No, it's me that has to drink it when Isabelle lands it" Paige argued.
"Not if I make it" I pointed out, Adam shifted his weight from one foot to the other and grabbed the bottle of vodka off the side filling the cup to halfway without saying a word.
"You best hope you make this" he challenged placing the bottle down on the side, he knelt down so his face was directly behind the cup trying to distract me as he plastered his signature 'Edge' smirk on his face. I took a deep breath steadying my breathing, I'd only ever seen this smirk from him through a screen when he had shown me some of his old matches, in real life the smirk was way sexier than I could have ever imagined.
"I will" I told him throwing the ball, it flew through the air and landed effortlessly in the cup, Adam's face was one of horror as me and Isabelle turned and hugged each other cheering at our win. Adam held the cup up in cheers and downed its contents wincing as he did.
"Let's talk" she told me grabbing my hand and pulling me to the garden, we sat under a small wooden shelter dressed with fairy lights, completely alone so no one could interrupt. "So, what's with the sexual tension?" she asked.
"You don't mess about" I responded swigging at my bottle of beer.
"Don't change the subject" She scolded nudging my arm.
"There's no sexual tension" I told her.
"Lies" she snapped "What's happened?" she asked.
"I promise you nothing has happened" I argued "Well…" I began looking down at my crossed legs.
"Well…" She encouraged me to continue.
"Well, before we came out I couldn't get the zip on my dress done up and he came to pick me up so I asked him to help and…" I bit my lip trying not to get flustered at the memory.
"And…" she said wide eyed completely enthralled in the story I was telling.
"I don't know…" I told her "He pulled my hair to the side; he was looking at my neck and then he said we had to leave it doesn't sound like much but…" I began to babble as I spoke realising how ridiculous I sounded as I tried to insinuate something more from the situation.
"Oh my god…" she gasped "he wanted to kiss you again" she exclaimed.
"Wait…no" I argued shaking my head.
"Jay I am telling you now that man has got it bad for you" she placed a hand on my knee her expression serious "but I don't like the way he's playing with you" she told me "He needs to either pull his shit together or walk away because this isn't healthy" she spoke, we both turned as we heard the back door slide open.
"There's something else" I sighed pinching the bridge of my nose "That guy in there with him, his name is Jay, they're best friends and when Adam went to the toilet, he told me that there's more to this than attraction from Adam" I admitted letting out another deep sigh "Isabelle I just don't get it" I told her.
"I hate to say I told you so but…" She began before the backdoor sliding open interrupted our conversation.
"Jay…" Adam called as he stepped out into the garden "There you are, I was wondering where you had got to" he said looking over at the both of us sat together, Isabelle stood up and walked over to him looking him straight in the eye.
"Pull it together" She told him off "She deserves better" I sat watching in horror as Isabelle all but outed me to my best friend.
"Isabelle" I said through gritted teeth.
"No" Adam raised a hand to silence me "She's right" he sighed.
"I'll leave you guys to it" she said looking back at me with a knowing look, I groaned what had she just done? I stood up to follow her back in with every intention of telling her she had no right to do what she had just done. As I went to pass by Adam, he put his arm out grabbing me by the waist and spinning me round.
"Adam seriously you don't have to…" I assured him painfully aware that his hands were still resting on my hips, my skin burning underneath my dress at his touch, wanting nothing more than to feel his hands on my bare skin again.
"I want you" he whispered looking down at me, I gasped a little hearing the words I had been so desperate to hear from him, my stomach somersaulted in excitement and every fibre of my being came alive at just those mere words. I took a deep breath to answer but he spoke "But I can't have you" his hands dropped from my waist as the words pulled me back to reality in an instant taking every ounce of wind out of me, in a matter of 30 seconds he had put me on top of the world and then had me crashing back down to reality.
"W...Why" I said my eyes wide wanting answers from the man stood in front of me.
"I'm not good" he admitted his eyes pleading with me "you need a guy who is good…Stu's good" he sighed "And he's just turned up looking for you" he announced, my mouth flapped open and closed in shock as I craned my neck to look through the window, Stu was stood talking to Isabelle, I knew what she was doing, I could read her like a book, she was keeping him occupied so me and Adam could speak.
"I thought you didn't like him" I said turning back to Adam who hadn't taken his eyes off me.
"He's a better man than I'll ever be" he told me his eyes set on my lips, I tried to steady my breathing not wanting Adam to know what his close proximity was doing to me "You should go speak to him, I know you've had some kind of argument, but you can work it out" he assured me.
"What if…" I began looking into his beautiful green eyes.
"Don't Jay" he closed his eyes swallowing hard "Don't make this harder for me than it needs to be" he almost begged "I can't" his voice shook, eyes still closed, before he could open them again, I turned and walked through the back doors and back into the house, Isabelle turned to face me with a questioning look on her face silently asking me how it had gone. I shook my head slightly letting her know it hadn't gone the way we hoped, he faced dropped and hardened in anger at him as she walked away leaving me and Stu to talk.
