"What… What just happened?"
Katara sat open mouthed as Nezu and Endeavor walked away from the clamoring reporters begging for more questions. She was in complete confusion as to what transpired just now. She went from being interrogated for fighting Endeavor… to being told she was going to have to learn from him!?
She stood up and flipped around towards Aizawa. "Wait, what is going on? What did you just do!?" She yelled at him.
"Relax… you should actually be grateful for what just happened." Aizawa grunted. "What you should be asking is how should you thank Principle Nezu for getting this done."
"What? How does this help me?"
"Do you really need me to explain it?" Aizawa rubbed his head in annoyance. "You were just caught on film battling with a top ranked hero. Do you know how many problems come from that? Every reporter in the city would rip you apart trying to get anything out of you, and if we let them talk to you something would slip. It's better for them to think of another reason you were there that night."
"But this?" Katara frowned, "This is the plan you came up with?"
The door opened up once more as Nezu slowly walked inside. "It was actually my plan. Going over it this was the best option for both of you."
"Both?" She asked, but her answer came as Endeavor stomped into the room after the principle. His fake smile was replaced with his usual scowl. "What's he doing here?"
"Me? The only reason I am here is because of you, you little-
"Let us talk calmly now, shall we?" Nezu cut off Endeavor's words and smiled as the two glared at each other. "I contacted Endeavor while you were waiting outside and was able to make an agreement."
Katara looked down to the principle in confusion. "An agreement on what?"
"You see, with all of these questions on your situation now, the best way to get passed them was just a small twist to the story. By doing so, it gives the media and the people the truth that you weren't there to cause trouble on purpose. It was a misunderstanding."
Endeavor let out a growl in frustration. "This is ridiculous. I can't believe it's come to this."
Nezu smiled at the heroes temper tantrum."This works out for you as well, Endeavor. With everyone questioning her, there are also those wondering why a hero as powerful as you was battling a child on the street. By using this as a template, you can create a much calmer explanation than what they are trying to paint."
Nezu then turned his attention to the waterbender in the room. "And for you, by going to intern under the man you are being accused of fighting will allow people to relax and show their was a misunderstanding."
"Seriously? I was a huge fan of his?" Katara frowned, earning a scoff from the flame hero.
"Would you prefer we kept the story where you were scared and fought the number two hero?" Nezu chuckled internally as he walked passed her to his desk. "This is the perfect opportunity to change perspectives on both of you. By working together, it will show there is no more reason to worry about you, Katara. And Endeavor, this is the chance to show you are willing to help students in need."
The flame hero's eye twitched in frustration to this situation. He was in his office when one of his sidekicks alerted him of the news that came on this morning. If he hadn't installed those high pressured fire sprinklers in his office there may not have been a building left standing. Immediately his phones were flooded with calls questioning his involvement and why he allowed a "Villain" to escape custody. It was ridiculous. And when the principle called him and told him of this plan, it was completely out of the thing he would ever want to do.
And yet this was probably his best option to clear everything up.
Nezu nodded and smiled while the two forced together stared at one another. "Now I know it may be awkward at first, but I hope you both can find the positives in this situation. Maybe you can even find something in yourselves from this predicament. Now… I shall leave you two to discuss this alone."
Leaving the office, Nezu signaled the other teachers to follow him out. Aizawa was hesitant leaving her, but chose to trust his superior and walked out as well. With the door shut behind them, an awkward silence hung in the room as Katara stared up at the glaring hero. She huffed out and crossed her arms. "So I have to-
"Let me get something clear right now…" Endeavor cut her off and stepped forward, "I don't have to explain how this entire predicament we are in is because of you. If you had just come with me for questioning instead of be so damn stubborn, none of this would be happening now."
Katara mouth hung open in protest, but with everything going on she chose to hold onto her words. She instead simply looked away to keep her gaze off of him while he continued.
"Don't think you are the only one who doesn't want this. I would have never chosen you to intern for me if I had any other choice, but that stupid video out on the news puts me in a tight spot. Just be happy that principle of yours chose to help you out. It seems you have a knack for getting aid from others."
Something in his words caught Katara's attention, causing her to glare back towards the hero. "You better not say anything about-
"Calm down, you hear?" Endeavor growled, but his gaze was noticeably softer than before. "Ingenium and I never saw eye to eye, I will not lie about that. And I think he was a fool for taking you in. But… I do feel pity for what happened to him. As a fellow hero, I wish him a good recovery."
The sudden change in Endeavor's demeanor was certainly a surprise for Katara, watching in silent as he turned and walked towards the door leaving the office. He did stop one last time and turn back towards her, however. "Just be prepared, kid. Just because I am stuck taking you as an intern, don't think I will enjoy this. The moment you step out of line, you are gone, got it?"
He didn't give Katara a chance to answer as he threw the door open and stomped out of the room, leaving her standing alone in the office. She sat in silence and confusion, unsure what to even think about what happened.
"There has to be a mistake! She would never do something like this!"
"It's right there online! How can you say she didn't do it!?"
Multiple discussions were going off the same way in class 1-A. Students were going back and forth over the news report of what happened in Hosu months ago, and then with the sudden live broadcast of the principle and Endeavor in front of school it only added to their confusion.
"Come on! Katara isn't some criminal! There's no way!" Mina yelled in frustration to Kaminari.
"I'm not saying she's a criminal, but it does seem kinda weird, right?" he retorted back.
"I am with Ashido on this, ribbit. There has to be an explanation." Tsu chimed in.
Kirishima rubbed his head in confusion. "If she's a fan of his, why would she wanna fight her favorite hero?"
The red heads statement earned a grunt from Tokoyami. "Of course she wouldn't. Katara isn't that kind of person. Something strange is going on."
"Yeah? But why would she hide something like this then?" Kirishima answered back.
Tokoyami looked away in frustration. After everything that had happened so far this school year, Katara was now one of his best friends. He knew she would never do something like the news said. He couldn't believe it. But… what was going on?
Momo held her mouth as she listened to the many discussions across the room. It was such a strange situation. Katara was always there to help her, and was so kind to her. And this situation, it was too confusing, but what she did know was Katara was too kind to be some kind of criminal. She knew something else must be going on. She looked to her right at Todoroki, who was to her surprise sitting quietly to this entire situation.
"What's going on? Do you know what is happening between her and your father?" She asked him.
While she expected him to go to the defense of his dad, he simply sighed and looked back forward. He knew exactly what was going on, and knew what were the lies being told. His silence only brought more confusion to the creationist, before she suddenly heard a strange grumbling from in front of her, looking down to see Mineta shaking in his seat. "Are you okay?" she asked.
"Oh Katara…" Mineta clenched his fists, looking up and revealing his awestruck face. "Beautiful girls that have a dark side to them...Those kind are the hottest of them all. You really are a bad girl!"
Momo frowned at the words she heard. "You really are disgusting, aren't you?" Shaking her head, she looked up passed the small teen and saw Midoriya clutching his hair tightly. "Midoriya, do you know what's happening?" she asked him.
Midoriya didn't hear her as his mind was spinning like crazy. 'Ah crap… what should I do now? I promised to keep it a secret, but its not really a secret anymore!' he screamed inside as he tapped his desk rapidly. 'Should I try and explain it to everyone? But with Endeavor getting on TV and saying that it only brings up other questions and-
"STOP THAT DAMN TAPPING, DEKU!" Bakugo barked out in anger. "It's bugging the shit out of me!"
"Sorry!" Midoriya yelped and sat back straight. "I-I was just th-thinking on what's going on right now!"
Bakugo grunted and leaned on his hand. He didn't know the whole story, but he was bright enough to know Katara was not a fool and would ask to fight a hero like that. He turned around to glare at Todoroki in the back. "Hey Icy hot... What the hell is the whole deal with your old man and hair loops!?"
A few others turned at the sudden question, all curious themselves to what was going on. The boy in question however didn't answer, remaining silent as the others looked towards him. The door sliding open to the side of the room caught all of their attention again, looking back to see their teacher coming back.
"All of you back to your seats." Aizawa demanded and walked towards his desk, followed in by Katara quietly stepping in behind him. All of the classmates looked in question, but before they could ask anything, Aizawa spoke again.
"I know all of you are curious to what is going on, but it has been settled, I don't want to hear any discussions on the subject, got it?" he glared out to the class and sat down in is seat.
Katara held her breath as she looked out to the nineteen pair of eyes locked onto her. Some were looking at her in question to what in the world was happening, while others looked at her in worry hoping their new friend was innocent. As she walked back to her desk, a single glare towards her was the one causing her own heart to beat in worry, and that was Iida.
She look on his face was not one she had seen before from him. It wasn't the usually warm and friendly gaze he displayed. It wasn't even the sad look he had over the last few days was not there. Instead, it was one of mistrust; one that someone displayed not to someone close, but to a stranger.
The feeling Katara had as she sat in her desk was not one she enjoyed, feeling the many curious stares at her now. The class went by in a blur as her mind was in too much of a jumble to even process what they were talking about, the lunch bell coming far too late for her own comfort. Before the ringing even finished, she saw Tenya was already out of his seat and stomping towards the door. Katara quickly got up and followed after him even as some of the others tried stopping her for questions.
"Iida, wait!" She yelled out after him, passing through the door and into the still empty hallway. "Please, let me explain."
"Explain what?" Tenya growled out, turning around to glare at her. "What do you want to tell me this time? That you came from an isolated village that has no knowledge of anything once again? Because that doesn't seem to be the case anymore."
Katara felt a tightening in his stomach, seeing the story she had lived by so far falling apart. "Look, I know how this looks, but you have to listen to me."
"I don't know if I want to anymore." Tenya retorted, causing Katara's mouth to drop open. "For these last months I had questions, but I held my tongue because my brother trusted you, and you were a kind person. Today though made me realize I was too trusting, because everything I was told was a lie."
"Please, I know this is so confusing, but you have to listen to me-
"To what? That you… don't know about the heroes here and yet suddenly you are Endeavor's fan? That you actually caused damage to part of the city in a sparring match with him? I honestly don't know what to take from your word at this point."
Katara's chest clenched inside from the words he just said, stepping back slightly as he approached.
"My family opened our home to you, and yet it seems we are not close enough to be told the truth from you. There always seems to be a secret with you. At this point I don't know what to believe from you anymore."
"Iida!" Katara yelled out as he turned and walked away again, stepping down the halls now filling corridor. She went to chase after him, but the many other classes exiting filled the hall and blocked her path. "Iida!"
Her calls went unanswered, Tenya disappearing through the crowds and towards the cafeteria. Katara was left standing there alone, some of the other students looking at her with wide eyes. There confused gazes were the same as some of her classmates had, obvious they saw the news about her as well. Her heart beat faster as she looked back and forth between them, seeing them whisper among themselves at the waterbender standing there. She turned and saw some of her classmates coming out of their room with confused looks.
"Katara, what's going on with all of this?" Momo asked her, "The news said you were battling a hero and then they said you asked him?"
"There's no way! That's all fake, right?" Mina questioned as well.
Katara sat silent as they all looked at her with lost gazes over their faces. The only one who did now was Midoriya, his reddened cheeks showing he was unsure what to say in her defense. She didn't want one at this moment; Her thoughts were too scrambled to even want to try and explain anything to them, turning away and running passed the class.
"Katara, wait!" Momo yelled after the fleeing teen, but she called onto deaf ears as she continued away, leaving the students in bewilderment.
Finding a secluded spot at UA was not an easy task, especially during the lunch break. For thirty minutes, students usually congregated in the cafeteria, but had the freedom to walk through the campus and hang out with others. That is what made the search for Katara even more frustrating.
Everywhere she went, there seemed to be a group already occupying where she was. Many times as she walked by, she could hear the whispers and feel the stares of the others as they looked up from there phones, the attention she was receiving not what she wanted. Some were confused, others were skeptical, but some were actually excited as they thought it was cool she personally met such a popular hero. But she didn't stay to answer questions. She didn't want to talk to anyone at the moment.
She had finally found a solitary spot outside in one of the courtyards, walking over and leaning back against a tree. She slumped down to her bottom as she brought her knees up to her chest, clutching her legs as she looked out to the sky. Her thoughts spiraled inside in a twisted mess to the turn of events that just took place.
She had kept the secret of her first night here under wraps from everyone other than the two who discovered it. She had hoped after sometime it was something that would have just been forgotten, but now the entire world saw what she did. While the principle and a few others now knew of her true reasoning here, they knew trying to explain to the world why a mysterious girl showed up out of nowhere and fighting a hero would be too hard for the public to accept. By creating this new story about her and Endeavor, the media at least would have to drop the villain perspective. What was not fixed however was the confusion with the other students.
Katara clenched her legs in frustration, gritting her teeth at where she was now. The look from her friends was of confusion, and she was not sure what she was going to use as an explanation. "What am I supposed to say to everyone now?" She said out loud to herself.
"Just tell them what you told me."
Katara yelped in shock from the voice behind her, spinning around to see Shoto slowly walking towards her. "What are you doing here?" she asked him.
"Same as you…" He plainly responded. "Thinking about what to say to the others."
"what?" Katara tilted her head in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
"You have to explain to the others what is going on, and I will help explain."
The waterbenders mouth fell open in shock, especially coming from the son of the man she was caught fighting. "So, you don't…"
Shoto grunted and looked away. "I know you are not a fan of my father. He's only doing this ploy to cover his own back."
Katara sighed and leaned back against the tree again. "I guess it is to cover my own back as well. The principle brought me in and asked me about what was going on, and…They agreed it would be better for the public to think of this new story instead of me fighting him."
"And they didn't give you a choice in the matter?"
She took a deep breath and looked away for a moment, knowing she couldn't tell the full truth to the first night she arrived here. Maybe it would have been easier, but Aizawa told her on the way back to class to keep the whole world traveling part secret for now. The more people who knew, even friends, meant the more chance for it to get out to the public. Because of that, they had to go with this plan from the principle.
"They said it was the best… for both of us." She said to him before grunting. "Although it seems my friends are even more lost at what is going on."
"Then tell them." Shoto bluntly stated. "The same thing you told me back then."
Katara looked over at him in surprise. "But… your father and this story. Do I just say that part of the news is a lie after I kept everything else a secret?"
"It would be easier for them to take. I accepted it, and I am that bastard's son." he sneered out.
Katara rolled her eyes and forced a chuckle. "I mean you did accept it because you wanted to fight me."She looked up and noticed him turn away from her after she said that. "Why are you going to help me with this, though?"
Shoto sat silent for a few moments before he looked back towards her. "Because you helped me when I needed it. It is fair that I do the same for you."
Katara's heart skipped a beat from his reasoning, not expecting this coming from him.
"Katara!"
Momo's voice rang through the air, Katara's eyes widening in worry what she wanted to ask now. Would she be upset after she told her past to Katara, now realizing that she revealed her secrets to someone who was keeping secrets as well?
Turning to watch her approach, she was surprised to see not only Momo, but Mina, Tokoyami and Midoriya as well.
"Why did you run away like that? You could have told us." Momo said, bringing a questionable look to Katara.
"I… I didn't know what to say to you all. After I-
"It's alright, I explained!" Midoriya cut her off. "I told them what happened."
"What?" Katara stood up from the ground and faced them. "You mean… you explained?"
Midoriya nodded. "Y-yeah. I explained what you told me back then, how you got scared and reacted."
"I mean I would be freaked out too you know." Mina frowned. "You didn't even own a phone until you got to Japan."
"You could have just explained it to us. Having to go to Endeavor's agency is obviously smart to smooth things over." Momo added in.
Katara's mouth trembled in amazement to their support. "I… I thought you all would question me about what happened."
Tokoyami gave a small nod. "Leaving us there only made us concerned. Some of the others are still mulling over what's going on, but we believe in what you told Midoriya, and what he told us."
Thankful did not do justice to the feeling Katara had right then. Even after everything that just happened, her close friends were still there believing her after this secret just came out from nowhere. She couldn't help but smile in relief. "Thanks everyone. I'm sorry if I caused any of you to worry. I just didn't people would take it well if I fought with a hero when I first got here."
Mina sighed and rubbed her head. "Yeah the news did make it look bad, but you can't trust anything on the news."
Midoriya blushed and chuckled. "Y-yeah, when I found out I w-was a little freaked out when I found out back when school started."
"It would be much easier if you tried to explain to the others yourself." Tokoyami said next. "Some of them are still unsure what's happening."
Katara's smile faltered slightly at that, thinking back to what Tenya said to her. "Iida is not in any mood to listen to me right now. I doubt he will let me try to explain."
"Just give him time. I'm sure he will come around." Momo smiled and placed a hand on Katara's shoulder. "We will get the others to understand too."
Letting out a small chuckle, Katara turned to Todoroki standing there. "It look like you don't have to do it yourself."
Shoto simply grunted and looked away, causing the others to chuckle slightly to his reaction. Katara could only smile to the group around her.
"Thanks everyone."
The next several days went by in a flash for the majority of the students. With most of the classes focusing on internships the students didn't have much else to work on. Most of the chatter among students was where they were going and what they were most excited for. Of course, another talk of the school was the girl from class 1-A who made it all over the news.
Katara never cared for attention much, so being the big talk of the school was not something she was enjoying. Most of the things she heard were very positive actually, kids raving how one of the big shots at the sports festival was personally chosen by the number two hero to come and intern under him. But there were the occasional whispers of something strange going on, and why this girl was allowed on campus still. At least most of her class had moved passed the strange scenario with the help of Midoriya and even Todoroki.
Well, most of them.
In the days after the news, Tenya had not spoken to her once. Whether it was on the rides to school on the train or the hours sitting next to each other in class, he barely even looked her way. Several times she tried to break the silence with him, but every time she was simply left with no response. Whether it were days she was with others or they went back to the house at the same time, he always went straight to his room and shut the door behind himself.
The Iida household itself was eerily silent itself. Either Madoka and Toki were working, visiting Tensei in the hospital, or if they were avoiding her as well… she didn't see any of them one time either. She was left by herself every night there. Even when she received messages from her other friends in support, she still felt empty she couldn't even speak to the first friend she made here.
And then it came… the day they went for their internships.
The entire class was gathered at the train station with their hero costume boxes in tow. Aizawa looked down to his phone before turning back to the students before him. "Alright, starting today, all of you will be heading out to the agencies you have chosen. Use this week to learn how to improve yourselves."
"You got it! I'm so ready to hit this!" Mina cheered excitingly and held her hero case above her head.
Aizawa glared towards her. "That includes proper etiquette and speaking. Stand right and speak normal."
Mina frowned and held the case in front of herself. "Yes, sir."
"Good, now all you stay on your best behavior. I hope to see big differences in all of you when you return after this week. You are excused."
As the dreary teacher walked away, Katara looked around to see several of the others preparing to head towards their own stations. She sighed and looked over to Mina and a few others lifting their cases and readying themselves. "So, ready to go?" She asked them.
"Hell yeah I am! This is going to be awesome!" Mina grinned and threw her arm over Uraraka' shoulder. "Going to an agency with someone I know is even better!"
Uraraka blushed but giggled as well. "I think it's pretty cool you got offered there too. It definitely will be more comfortable going there with someone else."
Midoriya nodded in agreement. "That is pretty nice you got to the same agency." he said.
"Exactly!" Mina chuckled and looked to her left. "Still not as cool as Yaomomo going to a top five agency. You get to work with Edgeshot. Now that is awesome."
Momo rubbed her head and smiled. "I think it is strange why he still offered me, but I hope I can work hard enough to truly impress him."
Katara rolled her eyes playfully and smiled to the creationist. "I know you will do great, Yaoyorozu."
Momo smiled back to the support, suddenly hearing a call over the intercom. "Ashido, isn't that your train?"
Mina and Uraraka's eyes shot open in shock. "Crap! We are gonna miss it! See ya!" Mina yelled out and gripped Uraraka's collar tugging her along.
The brunette yelped in surprise as she was tugged along. "Wha- wah! B-bye you guys!" she called out from down the platform.
The small group chuckled to themselves before turning back to one another. Momo then noticed Midoriya looking over at her for a moment before they caught eyes. Both blushed slightly before looking away from one another. Katara couldn't help but smirk when she caught the awkward look between the two of them.
Momo was the first to look back and smile. "Well, I… guess I will see you both next week. Good luck."
"Y-yeah. S-same to you." Midoriya stuttered out and smiled back, feeling his neck sweat as the tall beauty turned and walked towards her own train. He looked over and stiffened up to the grin Katara was giving him. "Wh-what are you smiling at?"
"Nothing…" Katara giggled. She was almost ready to go herself, but then the one she was looking for was already walking towards his own train. Glaring, she took off after him even when as some of the others called after her. Even if he didn't want to hear anything, she was determined to say something before they departed.
"Iida…" She called out quietly but sternly from behind him making him stop. The taller teen however continued walking on, causing Katara's teeth to clench in frustration. She was about to reach up and yank him back by his shirt, but Midoriya suddenly came passed her and caught up to Tenya.
"Iida!" Midoriya called out, this time causing Tenya to stop walking much to Katara's anger. He turned around to face the green haired teen, his face obviously holding something back. Midoriya swallowed but stepped forward. "Hey, we are friends. So… if you ever need anything, you can talk, alright?"
Tenya put on a fake smile and nodded. "I understand. Thank you." He went to walk away but his wrist was suddenly grabbed by Katara. He frowned slightly and went to pull his arm back. "I must be going now. My train is-
"I need to say this…" Katara cut him off and stepped up as well, swallowing the words she truly wanted to say before looking back up to him. "Please stay safe for me, alright? Promise me that at least."
Tenya's mouth fell open slightly from her plea, feeling his own chest tighten slightly. Even though he wanted to be mad, he did still care for her as someone close to him. He took a deep breath and smiled. "I will. I will see you soon."
As he turned to pull away, Katara almost held tighter onto his sleeve not to let him go, aching inside as she felt the cloth slip through her fingers. She watched as he walked down the large station platform away from her, feeling a pain in her chest for not talking to him more.
She turned around and saw Midoriya, and to her surprise, Todoroki standing quietly behind her. They both could feel the cold aura coming from the speedster student, with one of them feeling a familiar sense of hatred inside of himself.
Momo sat quietly as her train bounced along the tracks. She was still nervous, but the fact that she chose to take this agency was something she knew she had to do. If she wanted to move passed the fear inside herself, she knew she had to take this seriously. Listening to the intercoms, the creationist took a deep breath and sat straight as the train slowly came to her stop. She took a deep breath and walked out through the door onto the new station platform, looking up to the tall buildings around her. "This is it…" She whispered to herself and walked forward… only to bump into someone crossing her path.
"Oh I'm sorry about that-
"Watch where the hell you are walking, you got-
Both Momo and Bakugo froze mid sentence when they laid eyes on each other, the two teens open mouthed at the sight of their classmate here. The creationist caught her breath after a moment before speaking again. "Your internship is in this city too?" She questioned him.
Bakugo scoffed at her. "No I am here for a stroll. No shit it is here."
Feeling her eyebrow twitch to the remark, Momo exhaled slightly. "It was a rhetorical question. Just surprised, that's all."
Bakugo hissed and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Great, I get away from the school and you still end up in the same city as me." he growled out.
Momo glared at the ash blonde teen and looked away. "I could say the same about you."
"Tsk. Whatever. I only hope my place is across this damn city from your agency."
Rolling her eyes, Momo secretly wished the same thing as well. Choosing to be the bigger person, she gave a small bow towards her classmate. "I hope you enjoy your week here Bakugo. I await to see you next week."
The vein in Bakugo's forehead pulsed in fury from the sarcasm in her statement. He ground his teeth as he watched her walk down the sidewalk, quickly stomping after her. "Don't try and get smart with me, ponytail!"
"I am not. I wish you good luck." Momo smugly taunted again, feeling a small sense of pleasure to hearing Bakugo growl in frustration behind her. "I hope you learn many great things from your hero of choice."
"Whatever… I just hope this guy is as bad ass as he appears." Bakugo grunted out. "Whatever pro picked you must have felt pity after the festival."
Momo stiffened up from his remark, fighting back the notion that was the truth to her offer. She quietly swallowed the lump in her throat and continued on. "Either way, I will do the best that I can to make them proud of their choice. I hope yours can handle your attitude."
"Just shut up, will you!?" Bakugo snapped. "I don't care what they think of my attitude. I just want them to see how strong I will be!"
Rolling her eyes, Momo continued on down the street towards her destination. As the minutes rolled by, she noticed that Bakugo was still right behind her. She sighed in annoyance seeing his agency must have been in the same area as hers. 'Great… now I may have to see him this week.' She mumbled internally.
Fifteen minutes after the train station, she glanced back when he was still going the same direction as hers. It was the same thing for him, cocking an eyebrow to the girl in front of him. "Shit, my place is close to yours? Great." he sneered.
"You stole my line." Momo shot back at him, turning back forward as he steamed out in annoyance. She sighed happily when she saw the tall building where she was going appear in sight, happy that she could finally be away from her festival opponent. She smiled to herself as she reached the sidewalk leading to it and stepped onto it.
Only for Bakugo to step that direction as well.
Both of them froze in place as they realized what was going on, their mouths open in complete shock as they stared at each other.
"Are you shitting me!?" they both shouted together.
"What kind of stupid joke is this!?" Bakugo yelled out pointing at Momo. "You are trying to say you got Edgeshot to give you an offer? Bullshit!"
"Me?" Momo clenched her fists and glared back at him. "Why would someone so poised and respectful ever ask you to come intern under him!?"
"Because I kicked your ass, that's why!" Bakugo shot back, his words causing Momo to flinch slightly. Scoffing, he stomped forward towards the door. "This is ridiculous! I'm gonna go talk to that damn ninja!"
"What?" Yaoyorozu watched as her furious classmate walked forward. "What are you going to try and say? Are you seriously going to drop this internship?"
"I'm not quitting! I'm going to ask him why the hell you are here too!" Bakugo yelled as he shoved the door open and walked inside. "Hey! Where do I find the- AGH!"
Momo gasped as she watched Bakugo suddenly get yanked out from his ankles and dragged inside, disappearing into the building. "What the!?" She rushed in after him, looking up in shock as she saw Bakugo strung up by his ankles. "Bakugo!?"
The exploding teen was thrashing about in the air, his ankles wrapped tight and his hands bound so his palms faced his stomach. He yelled as much as he could through the cloth bound over his mouth, his eyes wide open in complete shock.
"What in the world…" Momo was at a loss for words to what was going on, but the door slamming closed behind her caused her heart to jump in her chest. She spun around, barely able to see the sword coming towards her body, screaming out but bringing her arms up on instinct and forming a shield. The metal barely materialized in time as the blade struck hard, shoving her onto her back. Momo could barely even register what was happening as she heard the approaching footsteps, closing her eyes in fear and clutching the shield tightly in front of her. After a few seconds however, nothing struck her guard, causing her to slowly open her eyes to see who it was. When she did, her mouth fell open in shock.
The ninja in red and blue garbs stood there over the teen, his pointed gray hair jutting out above the black mask that covered the lower half of his face. The large katana he pointed towards her was slowly sheathed to his side as he sighed in disappointment.
"You failed to create an offensive weapon. Again…" The masked hero Edgeshot said to the trembling girl. "I was right about your weakness."
Momo mouth shook several times before she could even process that the number five hero was standing above her. "M-My weakness?" She shakingly got out.
The hero didn't respond as he turned to the teen still strung up in the air. "And you… failing to observe your surroundings. You walked straight into that tripwire I placed in plain sight and you still hit it."
Bakugo's forehead vein pulsed in annoyance as the hero ridiculed him, trying to thrash about even more but to no avail. The ninja hero gave a small chuckle and walked over to the cable holding him up and sliced it before they could even see him move, causing Bakugo to face plant into the ground below with a hard thud. Thrashing off the bindings, Bakugo spat out the gag and glared at the pro. "What the hell was that for!? You bring us here and string me up!? And what the hell is with you asking for both of us!?" he yelled out.
Edgeshot slowly turned as he slipped the small kunai back into his belt pouch. "It seems I was correct in my assessment of you two. We have a lot of work to do."
Walking down the sidewalk, Katara couldn't get over the feeling she had in her stomach after her last words with Tenya. The train ride was surprisingly short to Endeavor's agency, not that she was in a rush to even get there either way. She sighed as she looked over to Shoto next to her, his face not showing any form of excitement either.
'It's kind of hard to tell when he get's excited.' She chuckled to herself before looking up to the large building they approached, feeling a small frown form on her face knowing where she was. 'I can at least get why he isn't that excited.'
The fact that she had to be forced coming to this of all places was probably the worst luck she could have ever have got. As the pair of them walked through the entry doors, she noticed the large portrait of the flame hero hanging on the wall, Katara rolling her eyes at the heroes ego. She heard a grunt to her side, looking over to see Shoto glaring at the picture as well. She felt confused why he would ever want to come here knowing how much he despised his father.
They quietly made their way into the lobby passed the several secretaries sitting there, all of them stopping their work and staring at the pair walking by. Partly in awe to the son of their boss, but also in confusion to the young girl walking with him. The looks she was receiving made Katara uneasy, thinking all of these workers knew of the truth between her and Endeavor. The thought only Made her more uncomfortable now.
They reached the elevator across the lobby and stepped inside, with Shoto reaching forward and pushing the button leading to the top floor. As they were carried to the top, Katara exhaled and rubbed her head. "I never thought I would be here working under him." She sighed.
Shoto glanced towards her, his own mind thinking of something similar. "I always said I would reject him, but coming to see what a hero does will be beneficial."
"Yeah, but… I didn't think I would learn it from him." She said before the door opened, revealing a massive office that could have been an entire home's space. And there sitting in his desk was him… the flame hero Katara had been forced to work under.
"So, it seems you have made it." Endeavor grinned towards his son as he stepped forward. "I am happy you have finally chosen to come to my agency."
"I told you before I did not come here because of you," Shoto sneered at his father, "I came to learn about how a hero operates. The path I take will be one I forge myself."
"Hmm, fine..."Endeavor's eyes then shifted to the right, locking onto the waterbender there before him. "And you… So you didn't run away and hide."
Katara glared up at the man. "I am not a coward. I don't need to hide from you."
Huffing out, Endeavor crossed his arms. "Still have that attitude, I see. Doesn't matter." His scowl suddenly turned into a grin. "Now we are here so you may as well get used to it."
Knowing she had no choice, Katara frowned and looked away. "Fine…"
"Now then…" Endeavor turned to his son. "Shoto, go and change to your hero costume. We are going out."
"Out?" Shoto questioned.
"I shall show you what it is like to be a hero on the streets."
Katara raised her eyebrow in question. "And me?"
Endeavor snickered. "One of my assistants can show you what you will be doing here."
"What?" Katara glared up at the man. "So you aren't even going to take me with you two?"
"As a hero, there are many things to learn…" Endeavor chuckled inside at her gaze. "And learning about office work is very important. You'll find her two floors down."
"Are you kidding me?" Katara balled her fists in frustration at his smug look. Seeing he was being serious, She clenched her teeth and turned around, stomping her way back to the elevator. "Fine, I didn't even want to go with you anyway!"
Watching her leave, Shoto exhaled and glared back to his father. "Are you really not going to bring her with us?"
"If I have to make her an intern, there is no rule saying how I train her." Endeavor scoffed and turned back towards his desk. "Let us go now."
Clenching his fist, Shoto looked back as Katara stood in the elevator, arms crossed and glaring at the wall. Her gaze shifted back up to him just before the doors closed, the two of them unsure what was going to happen here now.
"That stupid, dumb, angry… grr!" Katara kicked the elevator wall as she thought of every word to call that man. "Brings me here and sticks me on paperwork!?"
She huffed out and gripped her forehead, trying to think of some other thing other than that piece of work of a man. She glanced up as the elevator rang to the floor she was going to, grunting and picking her costume case up. "Let's just get through this day." She said to herself as the door opened. While she was expecting offices here, she was surprised to find herself on what looked to be a large room lined with multiple weapons and other workout equipment. The blue matted floor covered the entire room, obvious to her now that this was a training room.
Katara raised her eyebrow curiously as she stepped out of the elevator and onto the soft floor. "He sent me here? Why did he- Agh!"
Katara yelped as green ball of fire shot passed her face and struck the wall behind her. She barely had time to even see what it was when she sensed another incoming attack, jumping and rolling out of the way as another flaming ball struck where she was standing moments before. "What the heck!?"
She hopped to her feet and looked up, her eyes seeing another green fireball shooting her direction. She flipped her hand into her school jacket and popped the cap of her hidden canteen open and bended out a stream of water, spreading it out and shielding herself from the attack. After it dispersed, she braced herself back and pulled out the rest of her water. "What's going on?" She said out loud.
"So, you are her, huh?"
The voice to her side caught Katara's attention, looking over to see the culprit. Standing there was a young woman in her mid twenties, her big dark eyes were hidden underneath a black mask. She wore black leggings underneath a tight fitting gray jacket over her curvy body. She was close to as tall as Yaoyorozu, but what stood out the most was her long, flaming green hair with two hanging bangs on each side. Katara tilted her head in confusion. "What are you trying to do?" she shot out in confusion.
The new woman grinned revealing her pointy teeth, her hands gripping her wide hips. "So, you are the little girl causing the big guy so much grief, huh?"
Katara frowned at the statement, not dropping her stance. "And who are you? you that assistant I was supposed to meet?"
"Assistant? I guess that's the term I get stuck babysitting you." The green haired woman chuckled and lifted her hand up, forming another ball of fire in her palm.
Katara's eyes widened slightly as she watched the fire dance in the woman's hand. "What is this… did he set this up?"
The pro sidekick just snickered and tossed the glowing ball up and down in her hand. "Nah, I was just surprised such a frail little brat like you is the one who made the boss so pissed all those months ago."
Katara glared and brought the water tighter around herself. "Throw another one of those at me and I'll show you how frail I am."
"Hahaha! That so huh?" Burnin cackled and grinned wider. "Alright then, I wanna see what makes you such a pain in the ass for Endeavor!"
Burnin stepped forward and launched the attack forward, only for Katara to shoot her water out and block it, bringing a chuckle out from the fire wielder. "Not going down without a fight, I see…" Burnin licked her lips in eagerness. "Good, it would have pissed me off if I didn't get a challenge!"
Katara gritted her teeth in frustration to all of this. She was already on edge for being here with Endeavor, and now she had to deal with his crazed sidekicks.
"Things just keep getting better, don't they?" She hissed out loud.
Notes: Oh ho ho! So Katara having to deal with Burnin now? What a twist! got some fun things planned for you readers soon.
