Notes: Well people… I'm back again. To say I was done with the craziness of my life… I was wrong.
Sold my house, got married last week. Looking for a new place to live and getting ready for our honeymoon in May. What a life!
And still found time for a new chapter for you all!
Dabi felt a wave of excitement as he stood before the tall arachnid woman. The long spider legs arching out from behind her back and stabbing the ground would have sent chills down the spines of most people, the six bright yellow irises shining within the deep black eyes almost seemed to pierce through his soul as she was raised above the ground peering down at him. He then looked around the room to the multiple other predator-based criminals eyeing him down, already taking note of the cheetah and crocodile users that brought him here. He then looked up to the red haired man who gave the death threat warning already, curious to know what his animal quirk was.
He couldn't help but grin at finally finding the hunters.
"So, you're those hunters I've been looking for," Dabi said as he turned back to the leader. "Was beginning to think you were all just a myth after all that time here."
"What, did you expect us to simply have an ad posted for where we are?" the spider woman chuckled as her left hand opened up, playing with several thin webs between her fingers. "We don't just sit in locations that are easy to be found. I feel like your group should have figured that out after your little escapade."
Dabi grunted and rubbed his neck. "You can give Shigaraki shit about that. I didn't pick the bar as a hideout. Glad to see that shithole gone anyway."
"Oh? You're not upset your little gang's base is gone now?" she teased, earning a snicker from the flame user.
"That gang is just a means to an end for me. I do things for myself and will keep doing things for them as long as it benefits me."
The arachnid user raised her brow at his attitude, surprised to see this coming from someone who supposedly worked for All for One. She formed a small smirk and lowered her feet to the ground, her spider legs folding back up and behind her back. "It seems I was wrong about you. I actually assumed you were here to ask me to come and join your little gang of miscreants."
"Of course not. I had something else instead." Dabi said, surprised when she grinned menacingly.
"Well that is good for you, because I was ready to have you killed if you did." She answered, causing Dabi's smile to fade as the others laughed in the room. "I figured to let the others have a little practice against you, but you've actually peaked my interest."
Grunting, Dabi glared around to the others in the room before turning back to her. "I guess I should be thankful for such a wonderful choice by you."
"Of course. Oh, where are my manners?" she crossed her arm across her stomach and gave a small bow. "The name is Iktomi. Welcome."
Giving a small sigh, Dabi nodded at her. "And it seems you already know who I am. I figured your base would have been-
"This isn't our base, genius," the snake man from the shadows spat out, moving into the light revealing his orange scaled body and yellow hair. His red irises remained unblinking as he stared down at the glaring league of villains member, his lower snake half slithering out toward the railings. "We aren't idiots like your group who just bring anyone to their actual base."
Dabi gritted his teeth and turned and stared daggers at the serpent man. "So one of the pets wants to speak up now? How cute."
"What?" the snake man bared his fangs and slithered higher up.
"That's a lot coming from you," Haraka hissed out and cracked his knuckles. "Being a lost puppy after your gang got their ass kicked in Kamino."
"Hmph…" Dabi's hands sparked out and ignited, causing both Haraka and Rogue to tense up, ready to attack. Suddenly, Iktomi raised her hand, immediately making them both stand straight and back up. The others in the room all backed up at her single action, making Dabi raise his eyebrow in surprise. He could tell they weren't just listening to her because of her ranking, but from her strength. He sensed the tension rise from her subtle movement, seeing they both respected but feared her, something that reminded him of All for One's presence. The silence was broken as a loud scrape echoed in the room, the eyes of the lower members of the hunters turning up to the red haired Muteki.
"All of you, shut your mouths," he growled out, baring his sharp teeth to the others. "Iktomi is the one who brought him here, so all of you keep quiet and don't interrupt her again."
"Enough, Muteki," Iktomi commanded, earning a nod from her second in command. "Let's get down to what you want, and what was so important that you came all the way here to find us."
Taking a breath, Dabi let his flames die out on his hands and step forward. "I've always heard you people are good at what you do, that you are perfect at keeping yourselves hidden, even while you enact your jobs."
"As they say," Iktomi gave a small shrug at his comment, "the job comes with all sorts of challenges, and it all depends who or what we are after. So tell me, is it something you need taken care of… or someone?"
Dabi snickered internally as he thought of his plan, bringing his thumb up and itching his chin. "A who… two of them actually."
"Oh? A pair of targets?" Iktomi asked, "And what about these two made you have to come and find us for?"
"Because these two kids will be the downfall of not only UA high school, but to the top hero now."
Iktomi's smile fell at his statement, her eyes widening slightly when he began speaking once more.
"There are two students who were involved in Kamino that I have a special interest in, and I assume you saw what happened there to know who I'm referring to. The water girl Katara, and the son of Endeavor, Shoto Todoroki. Coming up soon is the work studies for UA high school, which means they will be outside of the walls of the school security. Due to everything happening recently, they will both be in the same location, and we capture both of them right from under Endeavor's watch." He let out a small laugh as he imagined Enji Todoroki's face, his mind already creating so many scenarios of the aftermath. "Can't you just imagine the outcome from you doing something like this?"
Dabi's arms went out as he looked up to the roof. "These two kids being captured would destroy all faith people had in the safety of the number one hero school in the country, even after their so-called safety measures they put in. No one would ever trust their kids going there, forcing the doors to their facility to close once and for all. Not only that, but you taking these two would allow you to receive a ransom so large you could take the next three years off. Then there is so much more that follows that it will make this place the ultimate playground for people like us, jobs for you would be so common for you that you couldn't even keep up with demand. It would be just the start of what is to come."
Dabi took a breath as he looked back at the spider standing there. Her head hung low as she stared at the ground, seemingly taking in what she just heard. Then, the others around the room began doing something that surprised the flame user. Small chuckles began coming from the railings above, the hunter members almost seeming to stifle it from coming up. Dabi's smile slowly fell from his face from their actions, wondering what the hell was funny about his idea. He thought perhaps they were excited for such an opportunity, but then Iktomi suddenly burst out in a deep laugh as she looked back up.
"Hahahaha! Hahahahahaha!" She gripped her stomach as she threw her head back and laughed towards the roof above. The rest of the hunters began laughing louder along with her, her hand coming up and gripping the bridge of her nose. "Oh my… Now this is certainly a surprise here."
"Did I say something funny there?" Dabi questioned, "Does my offer not interest you?"
After a few moments the laughter died down, the hunter leader took a breath as she stood back up straight. "And here I thought you could have been an interesting customer for us, but now I see I was mistaken." Itkomi let her smile fall as she then stared harshly at the league member. "I was very mistaken."
"Huh?" Dabi glared at the arachnid's response. "What's the problem here? You claim to be great at your-
"We are mercenaries, you see," Itkomi cut him off as she walked to the side, "special mercenaries that only have animal quirks because they are reliable. We don't require flashy powers that stand out and draw attention. We specialize in keeping our profile low so that no one knows who we are or where we can be found. We take jobs that come our way and will take on nearly any challenge that is offered. In fact, a thrilling job is always a rush for us not because of the money, but because we got such a rush from doing something so daring." She looked down to her hand as she clenched it tight, "Hell, if it excites us enough, we have even done jobs almost for free because we enjoyed it so much."
Her six eyes then glared towards Dabi. "And then there are requests that are absolutely ridiculous that only insult me."
Dabi raised his eyebrow in surprise at her answer. "What, is this a job that is too hard for you?"
"Hard?" Iktomi scoffed at his question. "You are brought to me on my order to hear your offer you want from us. I hoped you would have been different from the fool All for One. He in fact hired me for a job once, back when I first took control of the Hunters. He then asked if I wanted to join him in his goal for control of Japan. I rejected his offer because he stood against everything we are."
"And what is that? Not getting paid enough from him?" Dabi sneered.
"For challenging All Might," Iktomi snapped back, her spider legs snapping out and piercing the concrete beneath her. "Only a fool ever goes against the most powerful hero. All of the worlds eyes focus in on you, destroying the secrecy that you worked to build for yourself. And now you come to us, and want to go against the new number one hero, Endeavor. To capture his son and other student?" She lifted herself off the ground as the long legs carried her forward. "Only a fool with a death wish would purposely wish to engage him, and then to go after his child and another student as they are with him? I am disappointed in you."
Dabi's blood began boiling as he watched the arachnid woman turn away from him, her long spider legs carrying her away. "The fuck are you saying? I spent a god damn week looking for you and now you're done?"
"I told you if you brought me something ridiculous that I was going to kill you." Iktomi hissed as she glared back at him. "Perhaps I should keep my word."
Hearing the slight movement behind, Dabi's hands ignited as he spun around, seeing Haraka ready to sprint his way. "Try it, you damn cat!" he yelled as hands thrust outward, unleashing a bright wall of blue flames around his body. The intense heat forced Haraka back, and the crocodile Rogue to back away as well. "You bastards think you can just throw me away after hauling me here?!"
"Don't act like you're anything special!" Haraka scoffed and extended his claws out, "You're nothing more than baggage to us!"
In blinding speed, Haraka burst forward and charged right through the fire, covering his face as he emerged on the other side and swiped out. Dabi barely dodged in time, the claws ripping through part of his coat and unleashed more fire. The cheetah man hissed and jumped back from being engulfed by the inferno, skidding across the dirt and baring his fangs. "Bastard…"
"I'll make a nice coat out of you if you try that again," Dabi warned, the fire dancing around his body as a barricade. Iktomi only stared in annoyance at the fire, her arms crossed as she leaned back on her sharp legs.
From the balconies above, the other figure in shadows stepped out, her black hair hanging down her face as she snickered. Her multiple sets of beady eyes peered downward, her large pincer claws snapping in excitement as a long scorpion tail flicked behind her back. "We got a feisty one down there. I will go and take care of-
A blur rushed by causing her hair to fly out, her eyes narrowing in anger knowing what it was. "Damn you, I want to be the one to kill this bastard."
Dabi stepped back as he kept his eyes for any other movements, but before he even noticed it, a sharp pain reached his throat and lifted him off the ground. He gasped out as the sharp claws hoisted him up, near ready to rip into his flesh as his eyes blanked for a moment. His right hand was ready to ignite once more, but another set of sharp claws dug into his wrist and forced his arm to lock up. His vision focused as he looked down, seeing it was the red haired Muteki, the man hissing and baring his sharp teeth. Dabi struggled to breathe as the grip tightened, but was more shocked to the man's speed, not even registering him come through the flames.
"I think you've worn out your welcome here, Dabi," Muteki sneered out, "You were given a chance to state your offer, and it seems you failed miserably."
Coughing out, Dabi clenched his fist in frustration before glaring back at the man. "You… are the fools for not… seeing the chance offered."
"And what is that? To go against Endeavor?" Iktomi shook her head, "He is nothing like All Might, but his power is something only fools would want to challenge. Could we all take him down together? Possibly, but I'm not risking what I have built for your little quest you want for yourself."
"Enough talking… let me be the one to kill him," the scorpion girl hissed out, her clawed hand crushing the steel railing she was behind. "It's been too long since I felt some blood."
"You stay there, Sasori," Muteki sneered out, "He's not even worth it."
Dabi struggled to breathe more as the grip tightened, coughing as he focused his vision. "You… have… no idea what will come after… this job."
"Huh? What would be that good that is worth fighting Endeavor? And you think it will stop with him? Others would rally behind and join him as well."
While he struggled, Dabi forced a grin as his imagination raced. "And that… is the downfall… of heroes themselves."
Muteki raised his eyebrow at the comment, huffing out through his nose. He was ready to simply squeeze his claws and end this here… before he let out a small chuckle and let Dabi fall to the ground. As the wheezing league member coughed out, Iktomi leaned up in surprise. "Why his he still breathing when I want him dead?" She questioned.
"Because I want to hear what this sucker thinks will happen," Muteki laughed and kneeled down, tapping his knuckles against Dabi's forehead. "Even when I was about to kill you, you still believe in whatever fantasy you think will happen from taking two kids."
Smacking the hand away, Dabi coughed several more times as he stood up from the ground. Rubbing at the indentations left on his throat, he couldn't help but focus on the burnt skin covering his neck. He sighed as he regained his breath and smiled. "This is more than just catching two kids related to Endeavor; this is all about bringing him down socially. His pride and joy is his son Shoto, the one he's groomed and put everything he has into. And this girl isn't just a student training under him; she happens to be… very close personally to his son as well."
Iktomi eyed Dabi curiously at his focus on these kids. "So what is this? You lost your girlfriend and now want revenge?"
Laughing at her comment, Dabi shook his head. "Let's just say I have a beef with Endeavor, and this will destroy him in every way."
Iktomi's multiple eyes focused in on the burns across his body, assuming his comment was the reasoning. "I can make a guess he is the one who gave you those…"
Dabi let out a snicker, the burns across his body almost dancing to the question. "As a matter of fact, he is responsible for these."
Pulling out an envelope from his pocket, Dabi threw it to the floor. "I want Endeavor to suffer, and going through his kid is the best way for that. Even if you break him physically and let him live, his son will be so distraught when his little girlfriend never makes it back, putting all the blame on his father for failing to protect her. And not only does the public lose faith in the hero school, but in the name hero itself. Can you imagine the public view of this? Crime has already risen in the weeks since All Might retired, and now the so-called number one hero fails to protect his own son under his watch. No one would trust heroes to save them who can't even save their own family. And if the next number one fails so soon after All Might has left, all of Japan would start doubting and lose faith in the entire system."
"This is ridiculous. You think you have this all figured out, don't you?" Haraka sneered and crossed his arms. "You keep forgetting the part of facing Endeavor to get those kids."
"You are supposed to be secretive in your skills. You play it right, and you never even have to face him directly. You split them up and take those kids on their own. Hell, even a sidekick or two would only up your profits. And that ransom you can ask for; keep every penny for yourself. I just want the pleasure in knowing Endeavor has failed not only his name, but everything he has tried to build for himself."
Staring down at the envelope on the ground, Iktomi shot out a stream of web from her left hand and caught the parchment pulling it back to her. Opening it up, she found a pair of photos revealing both Katara and Shoto, recognizing both of them from both the festival and the events in Kamino. Behind those was a thick stack of yen, an amount well over five million. While this was below the standard rate for dealing with high ranked heroes, she was surprised to see him bring so much already without knowing her price. She then looked up to Dabi, seeing a drive in his eyes that was easy to recognize from her years of doing this. It wasn't just simple revenge that he was going for, but something much deeper.
And she couldn't help but smirk to herself.
"I have to say, you are full of surprises. I was assuming you were just some angry little boy begging to take care of something for you, but now I see there is something else."
"You're not actually agreeing to this, are you?" Rogue growled out, making Muteki laugh.
"She's not the only one. I'm getting curious myself." he cracked his knuckles before crossing his arms. "It's been sometime since I engaged some strong heroes. I kind of miss the thrill."
"You always are ready to fight, aren't you?" Iktomi smirked at her assistant before walking towards Dabi. "I'm not saying it's yes, but you have certainly piqued my interest."
"I already have ideas for you as well in avoiding Endeavor, so don't worry about him. And If you need extra muscle…" Dabi laughed internally at his unintended pun, "I've got a beast who will kill if you tell him to."
Silence fell over the warehouse as everyone was waiting for the next word, and then a light clap came from the spider woman as she chuckled. "Bravo, Dabi. Bravo. You've earned yourself another day to live with your offer."
While he didn't enjoy the sarcasm, Dabi simply gave a small nod and smiled. "Trust me, the honor is all mine. I've heard great things about your group, and now I hope you can help destroy this system over our world."
Snickering at his comment, Iktomi reached into the small pocket on the side of her dress and slipped out a small phone strapped with a small note. "Use this to contact us. Untraceable and only good for five calls, so make them count."
Catching the phone tossed to him, Dabi felt even more excited knowing he had finally reached his goal. He slipped the phone into his pocket and snickered out loud. "Sounds like we have an agreement then. When I figure out when it happens, I'll be sure to get back to you. And by the way… I'm not being carried out of here by your two goons."
While both Haraka and Rogue growled, Iktomi only laughed. "Just head out through the side. You're thirty kilometers from where they found you, so you will have to find your own ride or hike out of here."
"Fair enough. I'll be seeing you soon." Dabi grinned as he turned away, walking by the other glaring members as he left through the door and disappeared from sight.
From above, the snake user flicked out his tongue before grumbling out. "You sure it's good letting him go on foot? He then knows one of our spots."
"Don't worry, Kobura. Even if he does, he's not one to give it up if he's caught."
Kobura let out a small hiss as Sasori snapped her pincers over and over. "Let's go and kill him before he tells those league of loser members. He shouldn't know anything about us."
"Like I said, he isn't one to rat out to the authorities. I can tell." Iktomi responded as Muteki moved beside her. "I have to say I'm surprised by your show of mercy. Normally you're the first to kill when you have the chance."
Chuckling, Muteki gave a small shrug. "Something caught my interest in what he said, and I wanted to hear what else came out from him. You trust him?"
"Of course I don't. And If he tries anything against us, then we kill him. And Muteki…" She whispered before he walked away, waiting until the others began leaving the room. "While it did end up being interesting… Don't ever go against an order from me again, you hear?"
Letting out a small laugh, Muteki's scaled tail flicked out behind him at her threat as the large, curved claw on his foot tapped the ground. "Sorry. I just couldn't help but be curious."
"Then keep that curiosity to yourself." She warned before turning away, "Go and finish the other job we have before you come back to the cave."
"I'll see you in three hours." Muteki answered as she shot her web into the rafters and pulled herself off the ground, silently disappearing into the darkness before he turned his gaze back to the door Dabi left through. He couldn't help but laugh to himself as his raptor foot claw tapped the concrete in excitement and scraped on the surface. "Other heroes would get involved if they knew where we were. I wonder if we will finally meet again…" He said to himself, thinking back to the face he used to call friend as he vanished in a blur of speed.
Back to the present
Katara sighed as she walked through her room to the balcony outside, enjoying the evening air as she leaned on the railing outside. After finishing her training with Recovery Girl, she quickly got back to her room and took a shower before getting changed and wanting to relax. For the last two days she had felt on edge, knowing where she was destined to go tomorrow. She took a breath as she looked out to the setting sun, taking it in before it went down below the horizon, but the nice view only helped tone her frustration momentarily before she imagined his face again.
Being forced to go to Endeavor's agency was not the place she wanted to go after everything that had happened, especially after learning more from Shoto from what had occurred when he was younger. Her fists clenched in anger as she thought back to what he told her when he was a child, the abuse he dealt with from that wretched man who was called a hero. Especially now since she would be going there alone this time. After school, her and Shoto talked for sometime as well, with him being concerned going to that place without her, but she assured him she would be fine.
Rubbing her arm, the young waterbender watched as the sun continued to drop until she felt her throat feel dry. Huffing out, she walked back into her room and grabbed one of the bottles off her dresser and took a large swig of it. As she set it back down, she happened to look at the mirror in front of her and notice her necklace on her throat, her mind immediately thinking back home once more. It had been almost a year now since she had come to this place, and everything was so different now. To say she felt out of place… felt almost wrong now. She had so many friends here for her and people to call her new family that she really felt welcome here.
But she still couldn't forget her past.
Her old life was gone now, all the wonderful people she loved and cared for having to move on like she did, but she still had the memories of her adventure and the few items she came with here. She then looked at the water bottle and waved her hand, bending the small amount of fluid out and having it dance around her hand. She then felt her mind go back to the revelation she discovered not long ago… that she didn't come here alone.
Needing to try once more, Katara guided the water back into the bottle and stepped back from the dresser. Sitting down on the ground, she crossed her legs and pressed her knuckles against one another before closing her eyes. She took several breaths as she let her mind feel at ease, focusing once again on the fountain flowing in the room. She continued to do this for several moments before she began growing frustrated, unable to feel the connection she used to feel before. After another two minutes she huffed out and let her hands fall, grunting to herself and shook her head.
"Maybe I'm doing it wrong." She mumbled to herself and opened her eyes, but then felt herself gasp when someone else was sitting in front of her. "Agh!" She screamed out and fell backward, her heart racing until she realized who it was.
"You were trying to get a hold of me, were you not?" Kyoshi chuckled as the waterbender took several deep breaths, "I am happy you've finally been able to talk to me again."
Katara stared in shock at the former avatar, the warrior's body covered in a light blue glow. "How… how are you…"
"For the longest time you lacked the ability to make contact with me because your body wasn't adapted for my powers. Since you have been growing stronger however, it seems you are able to slightly tap into it now at last, hence why I am here at your call now."
Katara leaned forward and sat back up, surprised she wasn't inside her mind like last time. "You're outside of me now? But does that mean…"
"No, no one else can see me, Katara. I am simply a projection of your thoughts, similar to how other avatars can speak to their previous lives," Kyoshi answered her. "Before you were able to reach me because I was unlocked from your subconscious, yet you weren't fully ready to handle the spiritual powers. Your strength and spirit have been growing with every challenge you've endured, the hard training you have been doing to make yourself stronger, and now you've finally reached a point to tap into it at will."
Shaking her head, Katara didn't expect this to be the way she was talking to Kyoshi, but she was certainly glad to be doing this now. "I've been trying ever since that night. So, this means we can talk whenever now?"
Kyoshi gave a small chuckle. "Not quite, but we will certainly be able to communicate more frequently now when you meditate like this. More than that, you can now start using the spiritual energy in your body with your bending now."
"What?" Katara asked surprised, thinking back to what happened in the forest. "You mean when… that night, when I first saw those flashes. I was in pain and couldn't move."
Nodding, Kyoshi smiled at the teen. "You may not think it, but even since then you've grown much stronger. Not only that, but now you don't have to worry about everything coming forth at once, for now you will be able to tap into it in pieces. To use it in parts when necessary to increase the strength of your own bending much like the avatar state does for them."
Katara's eyes widened after hearing that before she shook her head. "This is… it just doesn't feel real. Just being able to talk to you is so incredible, and now you're telling me all of this as well. It feels like so much to take in right now."
Kyoshi's face became more stern as she nodded once more. "I know it seems like a lot, Katara, but it is imperative you learn how to control this power. Even though you are strong and talented, I'm afraid it won't be enough eventually. I have seen this place you call home now, and I see the powers that reside here. While you have grown much stronger than most benders back in our world, I'm afraid it won't be enough against some of the monsters I have seen here. Powers so destructive, even a fully realized avatar would struggle against them. You will need something else to help you."
Katara swallowed the lump in her throat knowing it was true. She remembered watching All Might and All for One battle, when just their punches shook the very ground and created earthquakes from the force. "I know. I've seen that bending isn't going to matter unless I make it stronger."
"And you already have, Katara," Kyoshi smiled once more. "You may not realize just how far you've come from when you came here, since your friends are growing stronger with you. In time as you train more, you will learn how to tap into the power within yourself, and truly reach your potential."
Before Katara could ask anything else, Kyoshi's body floated towards her own as it dissipated. Then, the avatars spirit seemed to flow back into her own body, a cold yet soothing sensation roll over her as she was left alone in her room once more. She let her breath come back to her as she sat in silence, her eyes staring where the avatar was and saw nothing now. "I finally spoke to her." She whispered to herself, happy but wishing to have other questions answered.
Her mind suddenly felt tired, her eyes feeling heavy as she struggled to keep them open. "I guess I haven't got fully used to that energy she's talking about." She mumbled to herself and stood up, turning and crawling onto the bed. Laying her head on the pillow, she closed her eyes and began thinking about what Kyoshi told her, about how to increase her strength with the energy residing inside of her. She didn't even notice, but a small smile formed on her face, both from the fact to finally learning more about what was inside her… and to having one more thing to remind her of her old life.
"I'm going to have to step up my training soon."
The next day, many of the students who had offers to work studies were ready to leave to their locations to either reconnect with previous heroes they interned under, or to meet the new ones who gave them offers. While some had to go and request and get approval for their spots, the ones who were given offers all followed Aizawa down the road to the train station. Katara walked in front of the group consisting of herself, Momo, Kendo, Tokoyami, and Bakugo. The five of them all quietly followed their teacher down the sidewalk, all except Bakugo who kept growling to himself.
"What's your deal?" Kendo asked annoyingly as he glared her way.
"Shut it, big fists! I have no idea where I'm even going!"
Kendo raised her eyebrow at the name he chose for her. "Really? I thought you'd give me something better than that at least."
Bakugo's forehead vein pulsed as he looked back forward "Just shut up!" He barked out, making Momo glad she didn't have to deal with him again. She then looked over to Katara, noticing the blank look on her face.
"You okay?" she asked.
"Huh?" Katara snapped out of her thoughts at the question. "Yeah, just had a lot on my mind recently."
"You have seemed quiet in class lately," Tokoyami mentioned, "Is it about Iida's brother progress?"
"No no. I mean, he's doing alright, but it's…" Katara sighed and gave a small shrug, not sure explaining she spoke to a spirit would make it easy to understand. "Just been a lot lately."
Nodding, Tokoyami looked forward. "I understand. I won't pry anymore then."
"It's fine. Thank you." Katara smiled at his concern, but then noticed Bakugo staring at her. "What?"
Grunting, Bakugo turned away from her and shoved his hands into his pockets. He had questions for her, but would wait until he had the right chance. "Nothing."
Raising her eyebrow at him curiously, Katara looked forward as she and the others reached the train station platform, their teacher turning back to face them. "Alright, today is a simple application for you all. Today you are going to your locations to meet with the heroes who have requested you, since the others still need to get signed approval first. Unlike your internships, you won't be staying for a full week at a time, but still need to perform the required amount of time over the next several weeks."
"So… we aren't staying out tonight, right?" Kendo asked, "I didn't pack anything."
"Today no, but there will be times you may stay outside of school if need be, so next time you go, bring a bag with extra clothes to leave there. All you need today is your hero costumes. On those nights you do stay out, you will only be allowed that because your heroes are with you. So no sneaking out on your own, got it?" Aizawa warned, earning quick nods from his students. "Good, now get going to your stops so you still have time to return this evening."
Growling, Bakugo stepped forward. "Where the hell am I supposed to go? You still haven't told me."
Reaching into his pocket, Aizawa pulled out a single page and tossed it to Bakugo, the teen opening it up and felt his eyes widen when it was simply an address. "You've got to be kidding me… this is all the shit I get!?" He cursed out.
"This is all I was told to give you, Bakugo. The hero you are working under requested to keep it secret until you reach their location." the dreary teacher answered, secretly feeling a little pity for his student. "Just take the train over to Esuha and get off there."
Glaring, Bakugo snatched up his hero costume case and walked onto the train. "This is some horse shit!"
As his door closed, the others looked at one another confused as to why he was being kept in the dark to his location. They didn't have time to ask however as their teacher stepped forward once more. "Now to you four, you all know where you are supposed to go, and will be seeing you back in school tonight, understood?"
"Yes sir." They all answered as several of the other trains on nearby platforms came to their stops. Momo gave a small sigh as her stop was announced next. "I guess I'm off now. I hope Edgeshot isn't mad if I am not to where he hoped."
Chuckling, Katara smiled her way. "You will be fine. See you later."
Smiling, Momo turned and headed toward her train as Tokoyami nodded as well. "I shall head out as well. Hawks agency is located in that direction as well."
"That's pretty badass you got the number two hero for yours," Kendo commented and gave him a thumbs up. "Maybe you can get an autograph for me."
"Hmph, I'm not sure if that is appropriate asking that," Tokoyami said before giving a small smirk. "But I can ask."
Laughing, both Kendo and Katara waved him off as he left, leaving the red head to take a breath as her train pulled up next. "Well, time for mine as well. Let's see who can take out more villains in our work studies."
Katara raised her eyebrow at Kendo's challenge and smirked. "You making this a competition?"
"Hey, why not?" Kendo laughed as she itched her nose. "Why not? It always makes it interesting. See ya." She quickly spun and ran off to her train, leaving Katara alone with her teacher.
"And now, we have you," Aizawa said as another announcement came over the intercom signaling the final stop he was here for. "Like I said with the others, get there, get situated for the upcoming work studies and head back to school. You most of everyone."
Katara frowned at his comment and looked away. "I know, but I will be fine. I promise sensei."
"You'd better be. You are strong, Katara, but always remember this," Aizawa walked forward and placed his hand on her shoulder, "Even the strongest people need help at times, and I don't mean just for yourself."
Katara tilted her head in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I mean that maybe this won't be just a protective measure for yourself, but perhaps you can give your hero you're working under a lesson himself."
"What? What does that-" Katara suddenly felt her heart begin beating faster, realizing he referenced Endeavor… and her mind went right to the many talks she had with Shoto about his father. "Did… do you know… that-
Aizawa turned and walked away from his shocked student. "You pick up a lot of hints as a teacher. By the way, your train leaves in forty seconds. I'll see you back at school tonight."
Katara sat stunned as Aizawa left her standing alone on the station platform, the waterbender realizing she wasn't the only one who knew of Shoto's home life.
After about twenty five minutes on the train, Kendo heard her stop announced over the intercom, taking a breath as she readied herself. For her this school year had been pretty crazy to say the least, from the villain attacks, to being switched to another class recently, and now she was ready to meet up with a high ranked pro for her work studies, a vast improvement to the internship she dealt with.
"I really doubt he is going to be doing perfume commercials like I had to deal with," Kendo chuckled to herself as she stood up from her seat, balancing herself as the train came to a full stop. After a few moments, the doors opened up allowing the people to pour out, and the UA student quickly followed the crowd to enter the large train station at her new city she was to be working in. And to her shock, her new mentor was already here for her, causing her heart to jump slightly.
Walking towards her was Shishido, the lion hero ranked thirteenth in Japan. The thick brown mane-like coat hung down his shoulders as he marched her direction, his spiked up brown hair standing above his face, with only his upper half revealed as the lower was covered by the sharp toothed mask. Not only that, but above his clawed hands were multiple spikes sticking out through the mane around his neck as if it were a large lion's jaw. While he appeared intimidating at first, he quickly dropped into a polite bow as he reached the teen. "Miss Kendo, I presume?" He said, his voice surprisingly soft for such a rugged looking man. "I'm glad you accepted my offer to join me here."
Quickly shaking off her nerves, Kendo returned the bow as well. "Y-yes sir. I should be thanking you for giving me an offer."
Nodding, the lion hero turned and walked towards the exit. "I've heard quite a lot about you when I called the school, since I spoke to your former teacher, Vlad King."
Kendo froze mid step when she heard that name, frowning to herself as she thought back to her last conversation with him. Since the day she had been told she was going to class A, she hadn't spoken to him since. "Yes, I… made some mistakes in judgment, sir. I'll try to do my best."
"Hmm… judgment." Shishido hummed out as they walked. "You did break the rules and enter dangerous territory, all while knowing it was wrong."
Taking a breath, Kendo nodded. "Yes." To her surprise, she then heard the hero chuckle.
"He also told me you were one of his best students, who would do anything to keep her friends safe and do what was right." He glanced over his shoulders, seemingly grinning her way even from behind the mask. "He was adamant to mention those parts to me."
"He did?" She asked in amazement, receiving a nod from her new mentor. "But if I broke the rules, why did you request me, then?
"Sometimes doing the right thing is hard, especially when it comes to the rules of law here. But right now, I want you to simply focus on what we have to look forward to here now. Those answers can come later."
While she didn't get an answer she was hoping for, Kendo couldn't help but smile at the fact he gave her this chance. "alright, sir. And I will make sure to follow the rules from now on."
"Good." He responded as they exited the station and came into the fresh air. The view opened up to the large city below, with Mount Fuji in the distance behind them. "Welcome to Fujiyoshida."
As his train bounced along the tracks, Bakugo tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for his stop to come. Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he went online and searched up the address he was given. His mouth dropped in disbelief when it was revealed to be a private address and not an actual hero agency.
"Are you kidding me?" He grunted out in anger. He was going to some loser's home? How much worse could this get?
"First Edgeshot doesn't even want me back, and now I get screwed over and made to take an agency?" He sneered to himself as the train bounced along. "This asshole better be something cool, or I'm back on this stupid train."
Twenty minutes passed by before the train came to his destination. Huffing out, the frustrated teen grabbed his case and walked off the train cabin through the crowd. He only got ten feet before someone called out to him.
"Hey, you were in the sports festival for UA! That's so cool! Can I get your-
"Shut up loser and get away from me!"
The random teen sat in shock from the response, but Bakugo walked on not caring one bit. He just wanted to get to this place and be done with it. He trotted out of the station looking up to the large city around him, eyeing the river that ran through the center of the city. He pulled out his phone again, activating his maps and clicking go. He gave a small sigh, seeing it was only a five minute walk for him. "Well at least it isn't some barn crawling hero." he snickered seeing they lived in the center of the city.
He took the path along the river way, walking on and secretly enjoyed the small breeze he felt. Anything to cool his head felt pleasant at the moment. A few minutes later, he turned away from the water and went up a small inclined road before his map said he reached his destination. He looked up to what actually did surprise him and made his concerns dip slightly.
Sitting between the two tall buildings was a fancy modern day looking mansion five stories tall. The sleek white walls shining in the light between the deep black windows that ran up the entire face. They were one way glass, meaning he couldn't see inside, but he figured someone with a place like this would have a sick ass view.
"Alright, this dude has got some money at least…" He smirked and walked up the steps, "… If Edgeshot requested them, maybe they are kinda bad ass then."
His grin grew as his mind began thinking this mysterious agency may be turning out better than he first expected. If this hero had a place like this, then he obviously was a high ranked pro. He raised his fist and pounded several times, hearing the echo ring through the interior. To his surprise the door pushed open after his knock, the teen peering into the large marble floored entry.
"Hey…" He called out curiously as he stepped inside, "… you left your door open! If you are supposed to be a pro you aren't good at security so-
He yelped in shock when he was suddenly hit by what felt like a truck from behind, launching him forward and skidding across the tile. He gasped for air and reached around clutching his sore back.
"What in the fuck was that!?" he yelled out and crawled to his knees. He spun around and prepared his fists to hit whoever hit him. "You got a problem with me!? I'll kick your ass for-
His words stuck on his tongue when he locked eyes with probably the most muscular thighs he had ever seen covered in thigh high purple boots. He trailed them up to the tight fitting sleeveless white leotard over a… very shapely body . The woman's busty chest had a large yellow crescent moon on the front just above the steel belt wrapped around her waist. Her heavily defined arms were tan like the rest of her body that was exposed, all of it topped off by a white hair and rabbit ear-covered head. He then realized who this was.
"Mirko?" he muttered.
"Damn kid, you were all that talk during your matches at the festival and you got blindsided that easily? I'm disappointed." Mirko smirked down at the shocked boy. "I must have been dreaming then, because I thought I was watching a badass that day."
He gritted his teeth and stood up, somewhat surprised he was taller than her. "What the hell are you saying!? You sneaked up on me and did a cheap shot and-
He stopped when he realized what he was doing. He was standing face to face with the number five hero; the rabbit hero Mirko. He was in the house of another hero of the top ten in Japan. And she chose him for work studies.
….
….
….
….
"What the hell is this shit!? I don't wanna come work for a bunny!"
Mirko's smirk vanished at teens snarky remark. "What, you too good to work for a top ten pro, kid?"
Bakugo reached up and rubbed his head angrily. "This is who they made me come to? How the hell did this happen?"
Mirko snickered seeing him confused, crossing her ripped arms across her chest. "Uh, because Edgeshot gave me a call and told me you might hold a little promise. Never had a student come to work for me so you should feel proud."
"Yeah, so why the hell do you want me then?" he snapped back, making her eyebrow raise.
"Damn kid, get a compliment and that's how you say thanks?" she retorted, "He also said you were a hot head, and it's pretty obvious to see that. But I was told you were just as stubborn as me, and that caught my attention."
Bakugo exhaled in frustration. "So what the hell with all the secrecy then? I never knew who I was forced to go to."
Mirko smiled up at the confused teen. "I figured giving you a shock at being picked by another top ten hero would be pretty good. And it seems the school needs to keep you on a leash, so they will only give you to someone as strong as me."
"Yeah, well what if I didn't want to come here?" Bakugo sneered back. In all honesty he didn't know much about her. He only paid attention to All Might and a few other top pro heroes, so getting picked by a girl hero wasn't what he ever expected. "I figured you would be all pissed since I kicked Pontytail's ass at the festival."
While she had no idea who he was talking about, Mirko quickly put together the one girl he fought back then after rewatching his matches last night. "Please, it's actually pretty sweet you are a no shit's given guy who does his own thing, and holding back against a girl just makes you look like a pussy." She reached forward and poked his chest, giggling at the glare she received. "I can tell any other hero would try and turn you into a pampered little boy scout, so maybe it is good I keep an eye on you."
Bakugo grunted as she continued poking him. "I think it's a bunch of bull that I don't even get a say in this. I'm gonna call the school and- WILL YOU STOP POKING ME!?"
"What? This too much for you?" She teased poking him again.
"Do it again and I'll blow your damn ears off!"
Poke.
"Really? Wouldn't that be something." She taunted him
Poke.
His temper was reaching a breaking point… his hands sparking. "If you don't stop-
Poke.
"-doing that, I'm gonna-
Poke.
"KILL YOU!"
The impact to his stomach came so fast he didn't even know what happened until he was twenty feet away on his back gasping for air. He grabbed his abdomen to the throbbing pain as he glared up to see her leg extended outward.
"What *cough* what the fuck was that for!?"
He crawled off the ground and stood to confront her... but his eyes widened when she wasn't there.
"What- what the hell?" He stuttered out.
"Way too slow kid."
He flipped around to the voice behind him, but was met with nothing once again. Before he could react, a sudden sweep from behind took out his legs. He yelped in shock as he fell back on his ass with a painful thud. He winced out and opened his eyes again to see the pro standing in front of him with a large smirk.
"Damn, you fall like a dead fish when you hit the ground." She chuckled at his glaring eyes.
"What the hell is your problem!? Touch me again and I'll kill you, cottontail!" He screamed in fury.
"Well you better do it quick, because I'm coming again!" Rumi yelled and lowered into the charging position.
Bakugo gritted his teeth and charged up his right hand and pointed his palm forward. The moment he released a blast, however, he felt his arm kicked upwards releasing the blast away. He was caught off guard as her right knee slammed into his chest and shoved him to the ground, her left foot pinning his right hand to the floor. He couldn't even process the thought of moving his left hand before her right hand snatched his wrist and held it to the tile. His shocked eyes stared up in disbelief as she simply smiled down at him.
'Holy shit she's fast.' He admitted inside as he never even saw her move.
Rumi sat back on his stomach earning an annoyed grunt from the boy below. "You're a spunky little bastard, I'll give you that. What you need is someone showing you how to take it to the next level." She reached down and pinched his cheek. "That's where I- Ow! Bitch!"
She yanked her hand back and glared at the fresh bite bark on her thumb. She looked down to the smirk on his face and growled. "You Little fucker."
"I'll bite it off next time!" Bakugo barked back at her.
While she could've bashed this punk's head through the tile, she simply did what came to her mind.
She grinned.
"This is gonna be more interesting than I thought."
